"I Don't" understand it (72,316)
by Edward from USA
| |
|
|
Comparing "My Love", "Almost Home", "100%", "Help Me Make It" and "Andy's Theme" to "Infinity", "Why You Mad", "Infamous" and "I Don't", one can actually see how the quality of the music is going downhill. I think "Almost Home" is the closest she's been to her glory days in terms of vocal delivery. As many of us have said, Mariah's going to have to fall on her ass several times before she realizes that she needs to do something different. And I'm not necessarily talking about her changing her sound by selling her soul to EDM, I'm talking about crafting a great songs and stop with the rent-a-rapper formula that is obviously not working. I don't care if she keeps putting soft-core porn videos. One of the frustrations many of us have is the fact that Mariah as a person plus Mariah as the artist were very true to us. The woman behind "Looking In" and "Outside" was real to us. She had the money, she was famous, yet she was still true and relatable. Now what she sings, however deep, is not believable to many. MW could've been used to actually paint a different picture from the one we see, but it only made things worse by showing a Mariah who basically cheats and lies. And for what, for the sake of money? I won't ever understand it.

Mariah and the Superbowl (72,306)
by Edward from USA
| |
|
|
There's not doubt that whoever performs at the Superbowl halftime could expose their music to a wider and new audience as long as the performance is executed flawlessly. One thing about Janet, Lady Gaga and Madonna is the fact that they're athletic. They can move around, run, jump like they mean it. Mariah has a great catalog, and she doesn't necessarily has to turn into a dancer to do the Superbowl, but she would have to commit to a choreography and learn it until she doesn't have to worry about it. The key part would be lots of rehearsals. She could do her Heartbreaker routine. If she gets on the threat mill, takes some aerobic classes, learn a few moves, work on the voice and bring it, her career would definitely be back on track after a performance of this magnitude. One can only dream, but I think she could do it.

Re: Mariah Superbowl - setllist (like Diana Ross) (72,256) (72,261)

I found that funny too. She put on a great show. Neither Mariah nor Whitney or Celine with their voices alone could've pulled something like that. Gaga is an entertainer, she has confidence, can sing, play the piano, dance, and it not always focused on her eyelashes or camera angles. She did great. For moment I tried to imagine Mariah on top of that platform where she was standing by herself, and I was like: she would need an army up there for her not to fall.

Superbowl (72,259)
by Edward from USA
| |
|
|
Mariah, different from Madonna, Lady Gaga, Beyonce, and Michael Jackson, hasn't ever been considered a great entertainer. The artist that go on the Superbowl should command the stage with confidence and grace. There's not time for "I Can't Hear Myself" or "Earpieces" problems. Any costume changes should be done within seconds. Mariah can't even walk two steps in her own high heels without help, let alone command gracefully and with stamina a stage like that. Nowadays when Mariah sings live on any TV show, you can see her paying attention to her voice and how she's going to sound, the fear is always in her face, you (all caps) can't bring that to the Superbowl. It would be career suicide. I'm glad she probably won't ever be asked. If something went terrible wrong, I don't think she could handle the aftermath.

If I had one, I would. So, this time you'll have to sacrifice for the woman you say you love so much and give her yours.

Another #1 (72,160) (72,173)
by Edward from USA
| |
|

I think Mariah can still get another #1 hit if two things happen: First, the song have to be great and radio friendly. Second, she would have to collaborate with a very relevant artist who would demand things to be done right, and not half-cooked or rushed.

Jeezy and Mariah are fire (72,133)
by Edward from USA
| |
|
|
The two times Jeezy has collaborated with Mariah, he's done a great job. His voice is very distinctive, and he knows how to lay some good lyrics. I'm saying this because he did a great job on the remix for #Beautiful. Mariah and Jeezy are definitely fire. Jeezy is one of the few rappers who has brought something to the collabo other than senseless lyrics for the sake of rapping. For those who don't remember, here's the remix.

Remember that, according to Stella and obviously endorsed by Mariah, they're catering to 12-year old girls. So the poses, and the clothes she's wearing are appropriate for the video.

She "don't" and I "don't" either (71,990)
by Edward from USA

In my opinion, it's definitely better than Infamous, but I'm not impressed at all. If they promote it right, it might actually chart on the R&B charts. At least it is a song she could actually perform live without having to lipsynch.

Without the GP out there, it's never going to happened. It's evident her fanbase has shrunk so much we can't even make a dent on the charts. She still has many fans, but not concentrated in a certain area to make a huge impact. If people don't like her music, it's a big wrap. Those days when fans would call radio stations in the United States from different parts of world are long gone. We can buy each one 10 copies, and it wouldn't make a difference. The GP hear good music, and they buy it. It's as simple as that, they don't have to necessarily be fans of a particular artist, it's all about the music. Even though in her case it's clear that it's not only the music she'll have to sell, but also a much more likable persona, something she doesn't seem willing to do. I'll support her by getting a copy of the single from Amazon and watching the video several times if it's worthy of that. If it isn't, I won't torture myself.

I agree with you. The song is so deep that Stella came out crying out of the recording session from such deepness. It was innovative having Stella as a back-ground singer. If you listen closely with headphones on, you could clearly hear Stella's voice, it's a very subtle but distinctive pig-like vocal layered sound. Like a pig that's about to be slaughtered, but by stretching the oink, it sounds like an Alpha woman really in pain after having been dumped. Pure genius.

Cougar love is not about whether the cub could hang or the cougar could pull a dance routine on a pole keeping her joints intact. It's about love. If the cougar brings lots of experience and secret moves, the cub, still inexperienced, brings his stamina helping the cougar feel young and vibrant again. I can assure you that Tanaka will make Mariah walk on high heels without help. The cub usually regenerate the heap bones of the cougar. It's at the end a symbiotic relationship. On a serious note, I don't think this relationship, if real, will last but a few months. I don't see anything wrong with a woman or a man having fun in between relationships, but calling every person you kiss or mess around with a boyfriend or girlfriend is ridiculous to me. She should cougar the hell out of Tanaka and then dismiss him. Just like JLo dismissed Casper after she got her cheek bones back.

Luis Miguel didn't cheat on Mariah, he actually wanted to settle down, but Mariah didn't. By the time he met Mariah he had been in the music business successfully for nearly 20 years. Mariah and Luis Miguel looked very much in love, and when they've both been asked about their relationship, their answers have always been nice about each other. Luis Miguel tend to keep his mouth shut when it comes to the women in his relationships. Mariah has always said Luis Miguel is a gentlemen. You don't say that about a man who cheats on you. He had a song written for her in his album, she wrote a song for him in hers. It just didn't work out. These pictures show a couple very much in love. They're both glowing.

Don't be a hater. If a man, who is skin and bones, breaks his leg in six places trying to lift the woman he loves, he truly deserves her. I don't know why you guys put too much emphasis on money when it comes to true cougar love. Is Tanaka a boy-toy for Mariah? Obviously he is, but that doesn't make him a bad person. You'll see that when Mariah dumps Tanaka we'll get great songs from the experience. As my dear Edoard from France would say: Mariah sacrifices herself just to have situations to write from. When she broke up with Nick, we got "Cry" and "Camouflage". When she broke up with Packer, she got "I Don't", and when she breaks up with Tanaka, she'll be working on a Japanese song she started writing in the late 90's but never finished.

In the next season of Mariah's World: Tanaka has another accident but his other leg is affected. Mariah realizes she ain't dating no limping man. Tanaka gets mad and reveals that Mariah only has two pieces of hair left on her head. Stella shows her Alpha power by slapping Takana for messing with her secret love. Mariah brings the rest of her body out of the closet (legs and arms). Stella and Mariah get married. Season 3, Stella and Mariah get pregnant in vitro and both end up with triplets. Since Mariah can't drink during this time, her voice improves and we get a new album called "She got me feeling emotions". Show gets cancelled when E. can't provide an independent camera for each of the six new babies.

So sad to say, but that Mariah was gone the minute she started believing her own hype. I really thought Mariah's demeanor would remain humble and relatable. Seeing Celine being so gracious, grounded, complimentary, and just not worrying about left and right angles, was refreshing. Same thing I get from Adele. Ariana's going down Mariah's path.

Are you implying that Jesus, hanging off the cross, would've told his mother to put him out of his misery, had she sung a "soothing" snippet of Mariah's new song to him? First Oprah claiming stigmata when she cut herself by accident with a paperclip, and now this. I can't.

RibbonC, I definitely agree with you. It's time for Mariah to let other people write some great songs for her. It doesn't have to be a whole album, but at least ten or twelve songs. Mariah could write and produce the other two or three however she wants.

First listen experience (71,719)
by Edward from USA

I'll wait patiently for the song to emerge as a whole. Snippets can definitely ruin the "first listen" experience. If snippets are to songs what trailers are to movies, I don't understand why snippets don't usually capture the real feel of the music they represent, especially if the main purpose is to draw attention to the song itself.

Contourella stated that her job was to create means of revenue for Mariah. She obviously doesn't care whether it would be good for her brand or not, as long as the coins keep rolling in, she and Mariah are OK with it. I don't think it is a bad idea for Mariah to tour with Lionel Richie, the man is a legend on his own right. I just think the show should be promoted as two stars coming together to bring the house down, with equal stage time. There's a reason it is called an "opening act", it's not technically their concert. Opening acts don't usually have the responsibility of the tour falling on their shoulders. They show in, do their part, and go home. Mariah can just take it easy by singing about 8 songs. So, in the end she's making coins without having to work as much as if she were the only act. I don't think it's degrading, I think it is actually a great move. They would have a full house guaranteed since fans would be flowing from both sides. It would also be a great way to promote her new single, if we could call it that way.
