About Bill from the UK: I love Mariah more than you do.

London Daydream Tour Attendee.

Re: MC15 meaning (84,089) (84,126) by Bill from the UK
Thank you Licia (exclamation mark). I was reading these posts about E=MC2 with a red mist descending as no one was mentioning Migrate and its blatant should-have-been-a-single-ness. That was Mariah's 19th number one right there. But alas, we got Bye Bye instead. Quite a fitting title to end your streak of number ones on really.

I laughed.

Re: MC on vinyl (84,105) (84,124) by Bill from the UK
The early albums are pretty easy to find and relatively cheap on vinyl (at least in the UK). The debut, Emotions and Unplugged were all released when vinyl was selling more/equal to CDs and cassettes so they were mass produced. Music Box is still around but a little bit more money as vinyl production declined in favour of CDs taking off. Merry Christmas (original, not the beautiful red vinyl re-release) through to Rainbow are extremely hard to find and very, very expensive. They were produced when vinyl sales were low, the format was deemed ancient and archaic and Sony, especially, was trying to bring to life to Mini Disc. From Glitter onwards, they're a lot easier to track down but still go for large amounts of money. I have all the Sony albums on LP (her original stint), don't fancy owning any of the others for the prices they go for. I did have the box set of Memoirs on vinyl, but eBayed it when I needed someone to lean on when times got rough.

Re: MC's saddest heartfelt performance ever (84,101) (84,122) by Bill from the UK
I think Looking In beats that. That was a complete surprise when she delivered that, and did a pretty good job of it as well. Diamond encrusted sling and all.

Re: MC15 really means this (84,093) (84,114) by Bill from the UK
I don't think you really understand the impact and importance and popularity of Michael Jackson's Thriller. It is the biggest selling album in the world. To say MC15 is going to equal such a generation-defining and groundbreaking album is delusional. My prediction: it will come and go faster than Triumphant. Hopefully there will be some good compositions in there for us like there was on MIAM, but time will tell. GTFO was meh. Hoping With You rights the course.

Re: Listening party (84,074) (84,080) by Bill from the UK
Haha "craptastic remix", love it. Why You Mad is without question the worst thing she has ever done. I'm at a loss how a song like that is by the same person that sang Never Forget You et al.

Re: Listening party (84,068) (84,070) by Bill from the UK
Haha, I do agree with you there. If "With You" is another WBT remake I will go nuclear.

RainBracelet would be a great album title haha.

Yes, lyrically CB is up there with Butterfly in my opinion. Except Boy of course hehe.

Title confirmed guys. "This is Mimi's Self-Portrait: The Introspective Reflection of an Imperfect Chanteuse"

Re: Article: Mariah Carey on date night with boyfriend Bryan Tanaka (84,033) (84,039) by Bill from the UK
It is odd that she cannot move without a system of hoists, pulleys, dancers and chaise lounges. And then when she does manage to walk unaided for a few yards, we praise her like it's some massive achievement.

Re: Can we talk about WBT? (84,001) (84,010) by Bill from the UK
The end was completely lipped. It was a new pre-record.

Enough is enough (83,961) by Bill from the UK
Trawling through these comments is both hilarious and sad, really. There's a lot of psychiatrists, sound technicians, and corset voice effects experts on this message board. Who knew? Nikki, as you addressed me directly I shall do the same. New scratchy pre records do not a live performance make. What was live was a handful of blunt "eh's", a few yelled "got me feeling's", an off key "sweeeeeet" and a "shoo be doo be doo" thrown in for good measure. GTFO was indeed lipped, the video evidence where she isn't even lipping in time with the playback is all you need. The sparkly outfit was good though so that's something.

Re: iHeart (83,926) (83,944) by Bill from the UK
Lol, has it really got to the stage where we now praise the fact that Mariah managed to walked a few yards unaided? What has the world come to? She lipped everything and GTFO was a mess. Standard.

Re: A technical analysis of "Without You” (83,905) (83,908) by Bill from the UK
The UK cassette single of Without You was the first Mariah item I ever purchased. Started a collection of some 500+ items. It still holds pride of place in my collection. Beautiful cover it had as well.

Re: GTFO lyric help (83,902) (83,906) by Bill from the UK
You're right. The single should have been YDKWTD or Make It Look Good, which was one the best things she had written in years. That, like Migrate, should have been a single.

A technical analysis of "Without You” (83,904) by Bill from the UK
Um... Harry Nilsson neither composed nor was the original artist for Without You. It was originally by Badfinger and it was composed by Pete Ham and Tom Evans (of that group). Mariah's version appeared in 1993, not 1992, but was released as a single worldwide in early 1994. Also, the terms "shouty" and "twiddly bits" aren't exactly a "technical analysis". What is that nonsense about this being a live recording? Is that in reference to the video? Mariah was indeed on her own in the studio when this was recorded, as she is with all her recordings. As for Mariah "making it her own", she actually stuck incredibly close to the Nilsson's arrangement, and her remakes always tend to stick to the original arrangements. What rubbish. Nice to see it getting some love though I suppose.

If MC15 sells 66 million copies I will eat my hat.

Re: Toni Braxton featured? (83,874) (83,881) by Bill from the UK
Agree. Very odd as I’ve been listening to her debut album a lot lately - one of my faves. 1993. Great year.

Mariah dining out (83,858) by Bill from the UK
Great to see Mariah in trousers for a change. I always loved that look, being tall she really pulls it off. Please hang up the leotards and lingerie and go with this sophisticated look instead.

Her voice sure has though, lol.

Re: GTFO rollout (83,829) (83,831) by Bill from the UK
It actually did okay in the UK, reaching number 4, which I don't think anyone saw coming. For comparison Fantasy, My All, When You Believe and Open Arms all reached that chart position here.

Re: YouTube - GTFO (acoustic) (83,810) (83,822) by Bill from the UK
Thanks for posting. That adds a whole new layer to the song by making it a piano ballad. Rather than being some sassy kiss off it is now actually quite introspective and heartbreaking. Thanks again.

Re: Love the song but not so much the video (83,777) (83,791) by Bill from the UK
I actually think the video is pretty good. I didn't exactly have my hopes set high so I was pleasantly surprised. I really liked the dead of night setting (Crybaby vibes, I agree) and the cut away shots of the sink overflowing, the curtains billowing, all quite arty. Plus Mariah looks amazing, it must be said. But, she could still pull it off without resorting to the lingerie outfit, if only someone would tell her. She looked sexy running through a field in a flannel shirt and jean shorts back in the day for heaven's sake, so she doesn't need to be as in your face about it. But it is what it is.
