New Mariah album (108,722) by Zachariah from Croatia Well, being from Europe and the only Mariah fan amongst my group of friends, this is an everyday question - does she have any other songs except All I Want For Christmas Is You? They just don't know any other songs. Or think, when they hear something on the radio, that that is Whitney Houston or similar. I have a trouble with seeing her behind the scenes all bubbly and funny and engaged and then on the stage, she is like a Robocop. I think she sounded good and I thinks she is focused to not miss a tone or to hit hose difficult ones, that's why she is so stiff and "worried" on the stage. Friday feeling (108,597) by TJ from Norway I am in the same category. Mariah Carey 1990-1996 just killed. Those lyrics, that voice. Listening to the live versions of her debut album is just out of this world. Her voice changed on every album, and I was "scared" back in '97 when she released Butterfly. The voice that we knew was gone. I don't think fans or lambs post 2000 understand what kind of artist she used to be. I'm just glad to have experienced the extreme power that she had at the time. At some point she has to get rid of her stilettos, swimsuits, gowns and the newly rich trash style, and use normal clothes and flat shoes. I guess she would look better in stuff from HM than what she wears now. My dream is that she is going acoustic and simple on stage, like the unplugged concert. Lose the attitude, kill the inner diva and be a humble human being. Be real. She shouldn't try to sing the songs like she used to, but in a way that fits her voice. Peace out. I love my Pioneer hifi music system with the speakers. Almost all cd's sounds great on it. It's a listening pleasure. So it works pretty good. The guests also enjoy the sound of it. Favorite Mariah Hip-Hop collaborations (108,489) by Zachariah from Croatia Oh I know all pre Butterfly stuff since I am a fan from 1990 but when I heard Fantasy with ODB and then Butterfly with Honey Bad Boy Remix, Breakdown with The Mo Thugs Remix and then Glitter with all the Hip Hop influence and so on I realized that I liked that Mariah more instead of belting ballads Mariah and such. Favorite Mariah Hip-Hop collaborations (108,481) by BFF from United States I was talking to someone the other day about how I felt the ODB version of "Fantasy" is a bit overrated and played out. It's the one that everyone knows - I actually quite like the original version and the House remix more. Though I do appreciate the "Me and Mariah go back like babies and pacifiers" line. I am trying (108,361) by Randy from USA People have called me evil, a monster and Satan on this board for years. I really said I would start being more positive once I realized what we do to our superstars i.e Whitney, Prince and Michael. But when I saw MC talk about the lighting and her ensemble at the beginning of her speech last night, I was devastated. At a time I'm trying to make everyone around me take her, her catalogue and artistry seriously for the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame vote, I just felt like a fool. And what burned me up even most was all the 'Yass queen, slay' in the YouTube comments. Do they know the genius that once resided in that hollow shell? I'm tryna get people to take her as seriously as Joni Mitchell because I really believe in her talent that much. I have to wonder was she high or drunk last night. I just feel so stupid for blaming Stella for that era or Jermaine Dupri for MIAMTEC's rollout. A lot of Mariah's problem is Mariah. Get some help. PS I did enjoy her mentioning Pat. Precious (108,312) by BFF from United States I highly recommend that you watch "Wisegirls" and "Tennessee" in addition to "Precious" if you haven't. The roles that Mariah took in those movies are much more substantial and grittier than the parts in "Precious" and "The Butler", and they really allowed her acting talent to shine through. That song "Right to Dream" from "Tennessee" is just incredible. I honestly think "Glitter" is worthy of reappraisal - I often wonder if substantial portions of the filmed scenes were cut out to get the PG-13 rating and to adjust for the fact that Tommy and J. Lo sabotaged the "Loverboy" single, which was an integral element of the movie's plot. They definitely had to add the new version of "Loverboy" in during post-production. To me, Mariah's almost "awkward" portrayal of Billie works well because it lends an honesty and authenticity to the insecurity Billie feels from being abandoned by her father and mother and how she feels as a mixed race person. You can tell that, like Mariah, Billie worries that the rug can be pulled out from under her at any moment. She worked with a very non-mainstream director (Vondie Curtis-Hall), whose only other film credit at the time was "Gridlock'd" with Tupac Shakur and Tim Roth. She made very non-mainstream choices for which music from the 80s to focus on (R&B and club scene rather than pop). It seemed like all of the elements were there for something great and interesting. But the filming delays, the last minute pivot to the "Rainbow" album, the sabotage of the soundtrack, the delayed releases, Mariah's mental health struggles. It all felt so unfair to Mariah, and she just kept getting hit with poison darts left and right from basically 1998 to 2001. The reviews for "Glitter" were bad, but I think hardly anyone saw it (including critics). The film is definitely better than "The Bodyguard" in my opinion. (Wednesday 5 March 2025; 15:20)
