Mariah at Walmart (54,237)
by ADAM from USA
| |
|
|
I actually loved the Walmart performance. I enjoyed that there was no diva banter and actual singing vs having the audience sing most of the song and/or notes. She sounded clear and confident. Despite the lipped belts in Infinity and ABMB everything was live. I really also liked the dress and makeup/hair she had on today. It was a good silhouette for her and colors looked wonderful on her. She didn't look like a cheap stripper nor someone who is wearing her younger sister's wardrobe. I hope she keeps this type of stride up.

Morgan's story on Daily Mail (54,130)
by ADAM from USA
| |
|
|
Why can't people realize when sources go to the tabloids or social media to air a grievance or concern about Mariah that's it's probably done as a last result because of all their attempts to reach out to her personally have been denied. I believe Morgan's account of what Mariah is going through. It was too specific and he's always been inside her entourage since the early days of her success. I always suspected she has a drinking problem at the least and suffers from depression. It's more than coincidence her "problems" arised when her voice started to fail her and her trickery started with lip syncing. Whatever the real reasons I feel scared about Mariah's well being. I think any and everyone whose every known or works with her needs to call her out. No more enabling her. No more lies and blowing smoke. I think one day soon if she doesn't take accountability for her action and get cleaned up well wake up to find out she is no longer with us. Overdoses are all too common and are the un intented consequences of bad behavior. If anyone has ever been a fan of Mariah please stop being blind to this ridiculousness. She needs truth tellers around her.

JLo on Mariah BBMA performance (53,497)
by ADAM from USA
| |
|
|
Give me a break. JLo gave a respectful round of applause and smile when the camera was on her after MC's performance. There was nothing shady about her behavior. I saw the TMZ footage and what's wrong with scrollling through one's phone during an award show? There was no disrespect. Stop trolling for responses and just let these two women be. Why can't either one of these women attend the same event without fans from either camp pitting one against the other. In reality, they may hate each other however everyone is entitled to their own beliefs but as viewers and fans, why do we have to engage in sexist behaviors that do nothing but reinforce negative stereotypes about women in the industry.

Mariah in NY Times review (53,061)
by ADAM from USA
| |
|
|
I would like to update my previous comments about Infinity. I actually love this song in a way I haven't felt since WBT. I can't get the melody out of my head and really love all the lyrics. It really grew on me and I wanted to share my opinion about it with the forum as a result because sometimes I can be very critical of Mariah. Regarding Vegas, I love the way she sounds on most of the songs and am so excited to see her new costumes and set. My biggest favs are IDWC and LTT. I cringe really badly when I hear VOL and DL. I hope her voice polishes up nicely throughout the run of shows, however I will say I just read the NY Times review and it was harsh. The writer really went in on MC and basically revealed what we all already know - she lips her whistle notes and struggles very badly during all the others. Her even called out her methodical process of her pausing and covering her ear piece to then emit a clear loud whistle note. I'm really surprised that now the mainstream media is catching on to her concealed tricks us fans were only privy too. It's so obvious when she's doing it I'd be surprised if more people don't catch on and speak up as well. Anyhow, I love her Vegas show and am glad to see her perform this setlist even if parts of it are fake. She makes me so happy and I love her voice from the 90s until today all raspy and dry.

Infinity review (52,631)
by ADAM from USA
| |
|
|
I would rate this song a B+. I really hate how she continues to drown out her voice on her uptempo tracks to overcompensate for her dry thin raspy voice. It makes her sounds robotic. I would rather have her natural voice played over the melody. I also hate the fast lyrics that make no sense (especially the cringe worthy Fritos line). Horrible. I also wish there was a bridge in the song and moments where you can let the melody ride out. The high note at the end feels inorganic and takes out the momentum of the song. Everytime I listen to it I think the song has ended and then bam. Despite these critiques, I do like the song. I just wish it were more polished. On another note, I no longer believe fans should clamor for every release she does to reach #1. IMO she hasn't produced a single record after TEOM that was worthy of a #1 record or hit by her own standards. I think she continues to produce substandard records and has permanent damage to her voice which makes her on her best day sound hoarse and raspy. It was her full smooth golden voice which made her records #1. Those days as well as her voice are behind her.

It looks like it's going to be the leaked Sony pic of her from her debut album era. It's a great photo which I love. I just feel like it was a cheap stunt to only reveal a album picture. Should have never been that long of a wait. Still lets wait and see.

Cindi Berger, adios (51,479)
by ADAM from USA
| |
|
|
I think the fact that Cindi Berger her longtime publicist has dropped her as a client is very telling and not good. Cindi navigated MC's career from Glitter through Charmbraclet up until today. I am honestly very surprised by this. I think her severing ties shows that Marish not only doesn't care about her career anymore but also is fine with trimming another long lost confidant and friend. You can add her name right behind JD's to people Mariah continues to alienate. I think MC is so far gone in her own head that only she believes her own hype and her payroll of yes people from B. Scott to Rachel to Debbie Allen.

by ADAM from USA

Thanks for your post Andrew, I always looks forward to what you have to say about MC's recent events. I agree with you. With the Vegas gig coming up I thought she'd take steps to change the perception of what the public has of her as a has-been and someone whose lost their voice but to no avail. I'm not expecting her to be a size 0 or anything but the totality of her behavior has not changed to deter me from expecting the worst. I stand by my POV that she doesn't care anymore about her image, fans, nor success. I think her heart's not in it and it's been showing for many years. She's completely out of touch with reality and expects her followers to shell out $$$ for her in a month from now. I think she believes her own hype and self medicates with alcohol or food over the pain of her lost vocal abilities, not divorce. Everyone including her goes through heartbreak but I don't believe in this instance it's the root of her problems. She was like this before Nick. The part of all this that hurts me most is her using her fans. The only that still are here are here from her legacy days and when she was genuine. She uses those ties to cash in on our loyalty and I think it's wrong. She shouldn't perform shows lip syncing nor have a diva antic when in public. As a rule this kind of behavior shouldn't be tolerated and she should be called out and reprimanded if she does it in Vegas.

Obsessed with MC's debut album (non singles) (51,300)
by ADAM from USA
| |
|
|
This past week I have been obsessed with MC's debut album. Especially the no singles. I love her robust vocals over the 80s/90s dance beat undertones in Sent From Up Above, Prisoner, and All Alone In Love. MC is so underrated. I can't believe these tracks get no love. You feel every heart and soul behind every lyric and I just love her rapping over the beats in those songs. You know for many years I didn't recognize that it was her voice. I assumed it was a rapper uncredited. What diva out there in the game spits rhymes and belts big notes like MC does. Beyonce doesn't count as I consider her an entertainer not a notable vocalist. I just love these songs so much I wish she'd perform a concert with all the songs from her debut album. I would love to hear her commentary on each song and how her current voice sounds trying to adapt to these older songs. Does anyone else feel the love?

Mariah should use social media to connect with fans (50,962)
by ADAM from USA
| |
|
|
I loved the recent pics of MC in West Hollywood. She is so more striking as a beauty when she's dressed modestly vs cheap looking fashions circa 90s. I also liked her speech before the HRC performance. It was really cute and sincere. I wish she would connect more with her fans directly during the making of her next album. It's been how many years since she answered fans questions online via video or Twitter? Remember when she did the Facebook event to promote TAOLG? I think since her career is down in the dumps that this would be the most pivotal time to re-connect with fans and create the buzz that's she's sincere again. It seems like the perfect solution for her to regain our trust while still protecting her voice. Using the web to communicate, pleases all parties involved. Maybe someone in her camp will remind her that she has loyal fans again that need her connection. Anyone agree or disagree?

Commentary on her HRC vocals (50,931)
by ADAM from USA
| |
|
|
Andrew I enjoy your posts. Don't be detracted. It was really nice to see Mariah perform Hero stripped down and mostly live. I've accepted that this choppy singing is the best her voice is going to get nowadays. My logic is that leading up to the HRC performance she hasn't had much going on therefore all that down time her voice would be in, the condition it's in now - is the good voice it's going to be in. And about her in the studio lately, we don't know how much she's actually singing vs writing or producing at the moment so I wouldn't rule that as the reason she's hoarse. I can't remember the last performance where her vocals weren't raspy and choppy. I think her instrument is just irrevocably damaged. Let's be honest here, MC knows how to train her voice and she's been MIA for a long time so she's clearly has a lot of time these last several years for rest and tea with honey, so if this is what she sounds like live during Rockefeller and HRC, this is what its going to be. She's never going to be candid enough to tell us what really happened with her voice so at this point all we can do is speculate amongst fans and either root or jeer whenever she decides to perform "live". I'll just say that I'm glad I don't have plans to see her in Vegas sounding like that.

1999 Rainbow interview (50,868)
by ADAM from USA
| |
|
|
That interview was everything I needed in life from MC. It is her best interview anyone's ever done. She is articulated, interesting, and covers a wide range of topics from her ethnicity to how she preserves her voice and what she thinks of different producing partners. Everyone whether there a lamb, fan, or hater needs to hear this interview. I thought I knew everything about her and yet she revealed herself to be much more introspective and reflective than I ever thought she was. MC details everything about her voice from performing uninhibited when she started out to holding back now vs the variables of performing live that can shape how she sounds across different scales of her voice. She also talks about David Cole encouraged her to show off her upper range on her second album and how she hired a lamb, Teresa who works for her team who also serves as a realist for her to know how she is perceived among her fans. This interview was so special and made me miss MC so much. I want to come back swinging and get her mojo back to how she was around the time of this interview. She clearly is hurt right now and I believe in her talent to spin that hurt into musical magic a la Butterfly. I hope she gets inspired again from her Butterfly room and the love of her fans on this board who love to post about her on a daily basis to push on and succeed. I also hope she goes back to her formula of having the next lead single be an uptempo pop record with an accompanying RnB remix.

Mariah's new album, production team (50,796)
by ADAM from USA
| |
|
|
I can live and accept her voice in its current state however I cannot bear to witness another boring predictable album. While MIAM was a nice welcome after years of not being on the scene, it's a forgettable album that doesn't get replayed or have melodies I can't get out of my head. She keeps working with the same producers since 2005 and it shows. I'm not saying they're not talented but I think it's time to move on to different people you don't know. She needs to accept their hits/misses from the past and create new experiences that will invigorate her creativity and music. I think she's been going through (including MIAM) writer's block and creative block. Mary J Blige is an example of an RnB artist who created the same music over and over and took a risk and did London Sessions with a whole new team and her music is amazing now and fresh. Across many different genres Mariah could collaborate with producers and really make magic again. Some examples of collaborations could be Clive Davis, Bruno Mars, Adele, Daft Punk, Reba McEntire, Dolly Parton. It may sound strange at first but Mariah has the voice and talent to blend her sound with any artists at the mic. I think the public is ready to still root for Mariah with her limited voice, she just needs to bring on a new sound and not the same RnB records we've all heard before and are boring. JD should be banned from her lists of producers. How many B-side records can they continue to make? Anyone else agree with me?

Mariah in Vegas predictions (50,745)
by ADAM from USA
| |

I also am beyond excited for Mariah to perform her older catalog. Some of my all-time favorite songs are I Don't Cry, Someday and Love Takes Time. I hope fans take good videos in Vegas because I would love to hear her take on these old songs with her new voice intact. Mariah's voice is no longer what it was, but her ability to sometimes ad-lib and stress different notes in an unusual way (like My All in Australia) makes me love her so much today. I also would like to know how she plans to segue-way each song into one another. Like will she start with VOL or TMB and work backwards? Also I would love for her to debut different fashions from what we're used to see from her. This is such a big opportunity for her and every big name designer would love to outfit her. I hope she chooses wisely. I feel like we'll defintely see some Versace but imagine some Zuhair Murad, Dolce & Gabanna or Oscar de la Renta for some timeless elegance. I can't wait.

I thought about your comments and I agree with you about personalizing comments. I think I took my comments too far with the line about issues with men in their own lives. It was catty and unnecessary. I still stand by my POV about Nick and it's totally fine for us to have diverging POV's about his lifestyle choices. I would like this forum to continue to be a space where we can all spend less time bashing other fans for their POV and instead let it be a space where we can post our POV's about Mariah. Mimi L, I have no hard feelings against you nor anyone else who may disagree with my opinions. I respect your opinion and always welcome someone to call me out on something if I am fundamentally wrong or hypocritical. I'm not perfect but am always striving to become better than I was yesterday. Cheers.

Please get your facts right, Amber and Ty. Your comments were meant to be directed at Andrew not me. So before you throw grease at someone with negative intent, check to see if you're using the correct person's name. Andrew and Alexis, don't let these haters shut you down. I enjoy your commentary on this board and whether we disagree down the road on any points, I'm fine with it and will protect your right to express those points. I enjoy this board because of the variety of opinions on it. I just wish that everyone could express their points without always being PC or so apologetic for having a POV that wasn't in line with "lambs" who need to get a grip on reality. I don't have a problem with Nick Cannon's behavior and hate all the negative talk whenever he is in the media. There are so many haters on here who clearly have unresolved issues with the men in their own life that they so vehemonly destroy any man's reputation that was ever with MC. It makes me would how these individuals are in real life operate in relationships (if they are in any at all). I have news for you, MC is not a Disney princess in real life and has dualities in her personality like real people. MC is a great musician and has been intimate to her fans in the past however the truth is for a long time now, she has taken her fans for granted and only the delusional lambs who are blinded still think their being feed a quality product.

New ideas (50,703)
by ADAM from USA

Andrew your comments made me lol. I really want a rebirth for her career but I think she's just going to resort to the same old tired habits. Since we're going down that tangent, another move she could do for Vegas is wear her hair honey blonde in with a wave and wear as many mermaid dresses and ill fitting skirts you can put in one show. Also, we really would love some more Debbie Allen two step dances moves - if we're lucky we'll get the really cool "lift twirl and repeat" move she debuted with "Obsessed", where her dancers carry her over their shoulders and twirl and repeat it again. I mean really it's ridiculous what theatrics get approved for her live shows. Very tragic.

Wow Jon. I always feel like your posts are reading my mind exactly. Well said and very true. I feel the Vegas concerts are a big milestone in her career and the world will be watching. These concerts will be the equivalent to the "This Is It" concerts Michael Jackson was leading up to. His career was in the pits and those concerts had so much anticipation towards it that even if you were a half-way fan you wanted to know how good the show he put on. Mariah is in the same place. Her career has never been as low and her voice has been exposed for a long time now for the bad state its in. I don't have tickets to Vegas but will wait anxiously to see what critics and fans report. This is such a pivotal time for Mariah that I hope she surprises us and knocks it out the park. Also Lee I love your comments about feeling connected to her earlier work vs TEOM until today. I echo the same sediments. Even though it was a massive comeback album I didn't connect with the lyrics and melodies the same way I still have from her earlier work. Maybe it had to do with the level of output and magic she had from her Sony records days but it wasn't the same for me. Its always nice to hear fans on this site uncover a truth about MC that I forgot or didn't know anyone else felt so thanks always for sharing your thoughts.

Thanks for the YouTube recommendation. I've never seen this before and loved it actually. I've always liked Celine's music and her personality throughout the years. She really is the prime example of someone whose had success all her life from a young age and grew up very poor but has always remained humble and a beautiful person. Mariah and Celine have the same amount of accolades and struggles however watching the special made me love her more but also like you mentioned sad for MC. I don't think Mariah has the same discipline about her voice and standards for a live show. I've seen her perform several times in concerts for different albums and I can't say that any one time I've felt the show was polished enough or up to a standard I felt was proud. I think she purposely hires a team of friends and "yes" entourage so I don't expect Vegas to be a different affair. It will be the same Ray Ray two step dance moves and Trey and Maryann singing the same tired background hooks. Such a great talent but again no motivation to want to do better. I wish Tommy Mottola was still an influence in her career because she's could still thrive in the sad landscape of the current state of the music industry. But again she has to want to succeed, not just take the money and run like she has done in the past again (dictators) and again (Virgin) and again (American Idol).

Watching the Breakfast Club interview really is the nail in the coffin for me. It could have been a breakthrough moment for MC to really be humble and shine her personality with other radio disc jockeys but instead it was an unfiltered look at how Mariah really is removed from reality and so far from who she used to be. She was so off-putting and rambling so much that I don't how the DJ's remained interested in keeping the interview going. Not saying she needs to be 23 again but in terms of likability. If she was a co-worker of mine I wouldn't want to be in the same room as her. For a long time, Mariah has sounded like she's lost the enthusiasm in her natural speaking voice and doesn't seem connected to the material she's putting out. I think the work suffers as a result of this. I think she thinks she's above any producer or manager and that she's God's gift to the world and as a result she's pushed away Randy, Jermaine, Walter, Ben Marguiles, etc. I think she feels entitled to be this all supreme diva now since Whitney is dead and there are no other big players from her heyday around to claim that spot. The difference between Cher, Barbra, and Diana who have all come before her and have as many hits, is their humbleness. Mariah appears to have lost that a long time ago and I think unfortunately another rock bottom moment has to happen in order for her to have a slice of humble pie and reclaim her artistic integrity again.

Mimi / Mariah on Lambily (50,425)
by ADAM from USA

|

JLo is a good example because they both are the same age, sexy, have twins, divorced, and became popular in the 90's. JLo has an empire built on her fashions, beauty, lifestyle brand, American Idol persona, acting, etc. Nowadays stars with legacies have to cross promote many different avenues and have a down to Earth persona that makes people feel like they know them and like them. Mariah does not do this well. In fact, she does the opposite - she consistently puts out this diva image and it only repels people further into not liking her. I can't remember the last time I heard someone mention they liked Mariah after 98. They always refer to her in past tense when she was in full voice, flat chested and the girl from Long Island. MC pioneered stars renaming their fans and connecting with them frequently about their careers. This is my biggest concern about MC. I think something has been lost with her for a long time from way before Nick was in her life. Remember when she had NTT and Fan Appreciation Days and voice mails? Now its only updates her PR team puts out about Vevo views and other BS. BTW I'm not referring to updates about her kids bc its clear Nick doesn't want their life publicized and I agree with him. If she had her way they would still be photographed everyday on IG. I feel she's lost her creative spark and voice to create good music again. Does anyone else feel the same way?

Mariah on SNL performing "If It's Over" (49,979)
by ADAM from USA

Thanks TJ for sharing that clip. I recently discovered that performance and was blown away. It's my favorite live performance of hers. She is so confident and her growls and belts are so epic. If there was one clip that personified all her talent it would that SNL clip and the Vision Of Love performance from GMA, where she's wearing a suit jacket and matching skirt. I wish she'd re-watch those clips and become inspired to perform in basic, simple way again where the focus is on the music. No distractions from hair and makeup, just the on heat of the moment.

If my post came across as attacking her as a human being then that was not the intended effect. I was only giving my complete observation about her from a period in time we can all remember and comment on. Clearly if I didn't like her since '98 then I would not be on this website nor have purchased any of her music nor watched her on TV/web after Butterfly. I am still a fan of hers and would rank MIAM as one of her best albums in her career. That being said, I think it's acceptable for one to be a fan and objective about a celebrity at the same time. I hope this post clears any confusion I may have created about my intent. I just think of myself as a fan who loves Mariah for what she was in the past and also what she is now. I just no longer have patience for the BS she spins during live shows and interviews when I think its inauthentic and unfair to us as viewers. This is why I'm not going to Vegas yet until I hear the feedback from fans and critics alike that it's a worthy enough venture to shell out my hard earned money. I think having a standard of behavior for artists to uphold to is healthy when one is required to commit their time and money in support of any artist. Thanks again for your comments Jon I find them insightful to the board. Cheers.

Mariah's attributes / response to Andrew (49,855)
by ADAM from USA
| |
|
|
I agree with your comments Andrew. I've always felt Mariah went a bit looney starting in 1998 during the Butterfly era and the decline of her voice. Once the cracks started to show in her voice and lip syncing became evident, she became more over the top in her antics wherever she went and rambling about nonsensical stuff in interviews. As her voice degraded, she became obsessed with a "diva" image which included a lighting technician, beauty team at all times (behind and in front the scenes), fumbling repeatedly with her ear monitor during performances. These "attributes" she suddenly picked up with the decline of her voice are all intentional, as they act as a smoke screen to the public for her to mask that her voice is no longer what it was. It's like her career was defined as "the voice" where she just got behind a mic and emoted. And since '98 she's all about the fuss and we're somehow suppose to ignore the fact she sounds damaged? When you add up all these events, it makes you wonder can Eminem, Luis Miguel, and Nick Cannon all be wrong for jumping ship? Mariah seems to always become more unstable as each heartbreak goes on.
