Re: MC16: Rumour mill (100,274) (100,278)

Doesn't anybody else find it strange that the original Big Energy is still getting more airplay (maybe streams as well, not sure) in the US whereas in most other countries like UK and Australia it's the opposite and she's getting credited there? I'd hate to think that it's still industry politics that she often alludes to.

MC16: Rumour mill (100,270)

I don't know if any of y'all follow the twitter account "Nostradamus Prediction" - they report on upcoming music. They reported (they like to call it predictions - but it's clearly somebody connected who gets info a few weeks before it's out) the Latto collaboration long before it was released and lots of other news for other artists and they are mostly pretty accurate.
Attached is a link stating that the first single from MC16 will be out mid June.
They have also reported on a Weekend collaboration, and while ago reported a big collaboration with another female other than Brandy and Latto (which Mariah confirmed the other night).

Mimi L back in the house. So so good to see you posting regularly again. Wow didn't realize you were the second most poster here ever.
Ah I think Mariah is saying " Big Latto uhhh sing."
To be honest at first I wasn't as blown away by the remix but listening to it with earphones is a whole different experience. You can hear Mimi on the entire track not just her verse. I could not stop hearing it on repeat at the gym the whole time. I wonder if this song will be tracked separately or combined with the original on Billboard. I love it.

She is finally projected to hit #1 this week. Easy On Me will drop to #3. As per Mariah Now Brazil. She might even get another week on top based on a couple of days pre-Christmas that'll be on next week's tracking.

Exactly. It is what it is. We know it. She knows it. Let her do what makes her happy and not tear her down everyday or demand that she humiliate herself on a national tv tell all. I admire her hustle and resilience and drive to still make music with whatever else she chooses to do along with it - double beef patties, sesame buns and all.

I think she got the memo when she recorded Caution. Wasn't he practically nonexistent on that album? It was definitely a step in the right direction. Here's hoping she takes that several steps further with MC16 now that she has the time to fully work on it at her own pace. I think the other producers let her take the wheel when they collaborate either out of awe or respect of working with her.
My hope for MC16 is that she tries to keep things simple production wise and not muddle her songs with over production and numerous counter melodies and let the songs be singable and more coherent. There still is brilliance in all her songs. I just feel it gets lost in there.

Thanks for sharing this. They don't paint Mariah in a bad light at all, I wonder what she thinks of her portrayal. Why would you think the song was not "Somos Novios" though? Isn't that why she got so emotional on Idol? Or was it supposed to be an original?

I agree with both sides of the Adele debate here. Yes, it sounds like it could have come from any of her previous 3 albums. Nothing fresh and yes not as memorable or strong as Rolling in the Deep or Hello. I even prefer Chasing Pavements as a lead single.
But it is vintage, signature, unmistakable Adele. She has a style and a "formula" for lack of a better word that the world absolutely adores. She'd be crazy to ditch it. If she were releasing an album a year like Mariah did in the 90s then she'd be in trouble (kudos to Mariah though to bring a new, fresh and evolving sound with every 90s album). But she's smart and really spaces her albums well.
And yes, if Mariah were to put out a single like Easy On Me - a simple, straightforward, melodious, singable lead song with solid vocals, we would all be doing cartwheels. I know I would. I don't know why she needs to muddle her songs with complex production and counter melodies to the extent where the general public or even most lambs can't sing along. Though I don't think she would have a fraction of the success now as Adele even with Adele's material. Her time in the sun is over and I really do appreciate her still putting out albums knowing only her core base will acknowledge and appreciate them.
Don't diss the seasonal love she still gets when the world forgets they can't stand her and come together to revel in the joyful masterpiece that is All I Want for Christmas Is You.

Coincidentally she was asked if she will release her version of "Where are you Christmas" - she said she was thinking about it but this other song she wrote is even better. Hinted that it's more of a ballad and nothing like AIWFC.
She was also asked if she would cover Santa Baby ever. She said another artist already has (Madonna) and she doesn't plan to.

Twitter Spaces audio link (98,438)
by Shezz from Pk
| |
|
|
Here is the link of the interesting session. For people not in the mood to listen to the entire audio:
1. Seems like a Brandy collab is in the works. They are in touch.
2. She's in love with her new Christmas song that she's created with Daniel Moore and is looking for a young male RnB vocalist for it - someone suggested Bruno Mars but she shut that down and said Christmas isn't his thing.
3. She has found her recordings of Someone's Ugly Daughter and has plans for it that she can't reveal.
4. She's really immersed in her studio recording and writing process these days and wants to release some behind the scenes or making of. She was still a little vague and unclear about MC16, whether the Christmas stuff is a separate project or what. She's working on several things simultaneously.
5. Asked if people would be down for a collab with someone like Post Malone (hell yes).
6. Whatever music she's working on is so important to her that she thinks she wouldn't even care if she's not on its cover.
7. She has plans to release a lot of things that her label (presumably) isn't for and has a lot of opinions about but she wants none if their input and is happy to self finance it to put it out for the lambs.

It's confirmed by the fact that the link Bill posted now says removed due to copyright claim by Jam & Lewis.
Plus I don't think she's that far along on her own album/project to release a single yet - buzz or otherwuse.
A bit confused about how I feel about the song - need to hear the whole song. Parts of it sound good.

According to Mariahnow.br, it's the Jimmy Jam song. Also, apparently now she's managed by a new company called Range Media or something where Melissa Ruderman is a partner.

JD / studio pic (97,972)
by Shezz from Pk

Before all the lambs collectively facepalm, the pic Mariah reposted of JD in her stories was of him in the studio with Stevie Wonder, Mariah was on the phone with them, not recording with JD (this is from JD's post - MC left it very ambiguous). But of course, we still probably will end up getting some JD I'm sure.

I don't know if anybody heard her on Twitter spaces a few days ago when she had a random conversation with a few lucky fans. She said she's been busy working on a couple of different music projects, one of which is Christmas related. She seemed very excited about what she's been recording and said she hasn't made anything like this in years. Not sure if it was in this same conversation or not where she said that her voice is also in a much better place than it's been in years.
In addition, she has recorded a song for Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis's album coming this June which features an all star line up. Here's hoping we have some good music coming up later this year.

As with everyone, this could change tomorrow. Just what I'm feeling these days based on what I've heard in the last few months:
1.Butterfly 2.Daydream 3.E=mc2 4.TEOM 5.Emotions 6.Musicbox 7.Caution 8.Glitter 9.MC 10.Rainbow 11.MIMATEC 12.Memoirs 13.Charmbracelet (I do love this album very much. Ugh this is tough.)

Re: WBT Valentine's mix (97,399) (97,403)
by Shezz from Pk

To be honest I still want to believe the following: she feels more comfortable and is under no stress or pressure in the studio of being watched and heard by everybody and can loosen up a bit and go for it. And, if she fails, she can try again and again until she gets it right. In a live performance, she is too damn scared to not nail it on the one shot she has to go for it, so instead of being ballsy and going for it and risking utter humiliation of sounding like a screeching cat, she plays safe and goes for the backing track. Try as she may, she is not confident about what's going to come out of her throat. Yes she can't do the vocal acrobatics anymore in the studio and her voice is no longer the same but she can still sing a bit.
Just my theory - I could be wrong and she could totally be using a Stephen Hawking like voice device but I think that's less likely.

First of all, Mimi L: welcome back. You have been missed. Hope all's been well with you.
Love that idea of FTR video. For some reason, or actually because of the music used in the M perfume ad, I always see M flapping around in the water when I hear the song.
Also, bad singles choices side, didn't she give up on the album early because she went through that traumatic miscarriage at that time? That's what I remember hearing or reading recently when she spoke about her miscarriage. Can't remember how that came up now a decade later.
And my vote goes to I'm That Chick of course. One of the highlights amidst that stunning "non cohesive" body of work.

Sorry you're not gonna like me going off your list but my favourite is the MC25 behind the scenes video she released last year set to AIWFC. It perfectly captures that iconic moment in her life and you can see her genuinely enjoying every moment of it and giving it her all without becoming camera stiff and posed. It's like she came full circle with that song last year and that video captures the spirit effortlessly.

I'm just absolutely flabbergasted that she's invited the two of them to sing with her. On the same song. (Tons of exclamation marks.) That's mighty ballsy of her. Kudos to Mariah. Jennifer Hudson can sing anybody under the flood and with all the new Mariah comparisons, Ariana can show her up too. Mariah will be in control of the situation and center stage for sure. Not a huge fan of the song, so here's hoping they've reworked it into a winner. It'll be interesting to see who'll be the Celine and who'll be the Mariah to her Aretha. I feel we'll have two Mariah's a la 98 Divas respecting the Grand Dame of Christmas on her song and on her special.
