Tameka, most people love an underdog and a comeback like TEOM, but compare Mariah's attitude during TEOM and E=MC2 to her attitude now and you'll get your answer as to why the general public can't stand her. Mariah was America's sweetheart until her ego got to her head and she started coming off as arrogant and full of herself, and on top of that not delivering. Everything is in the perception. All those millions Mariah sold weren't bought by her die hard fans alone, they were bought mostly by the general public. We did our part, but if they hadn't come on-board, she wouldn't have had the impact that she had. Jennifer can't be compared to Mariah, but while she comes across as sweet and likable, Mariah comes across as shady and catty. I don't see anything wrong with being unapologetic, but you also need to be ready for what comes next. Let's say Rihanna, she's portrayed as a bad ass, but when she's on an interview, she's grounded, fun, and always praises Mariah as her inspiration. Mariah on the other hand, when asked about most female artists, she would say she hasn't heard their music, even when it's almost impossible not to have listened to a monster song like "Hello" from Adele. I think it's time we started holding Mariah responsible for what her career has turned into.

The lipping game showdown (73,641) (73,643)
by Edward from USA
| |
|
|
I don't think there's a double standard. When an artist of Mariah's caliber puts herself out there for the whole nation or world to see, she simply has to make an effort and do things right or just don't it. Mariah has dubbed and lipped many performances from the 90's, but she did it convincingly. I guess most people don't have problem with singers lipping a song or two or the most difficult parts, they're only human, the key here is about consistency, especially when the only thing you got to offer is your voice. Celine lips on shows and tours, but when she takes a microphone for a live performance whether it is a tribute or a casual performance, she delivers (all caps) every time, Mariah doesn't. After we heavily complained how bad Mariah was at lipping, somebody took note and all of a sudden Mariah stopped spinning like a whipping top covering her face with her arm when she was about to enter into lipping mode, and she started putting a little bit more effort into her lipping game. I've been to her Christmas show two times at Beacon Theater, and she has upped her lipping game to a point where from the audience, unless you're looking to pick apart her performances, everything looks and sounds live. Between Celine and Mariah, as much as I love Celine, I would take Mariah any day, Mariah is not only what Celine is, a vocalist, Mariah is a lyricist, a vocalist, a producer. She's (all caps) a musical genius. She's been heavily promoted as "The Voice", "Best Selling Female Artist of all time", and "The one with the most #1's", so people clearly expect that which they promote her as, consistency on her vocal delivery in occasional live shows. She did a good job on Jimmy Kimmel Live, but does she have to fall on her ass before we witness some decent performance coming from her? Mariah's biggest mistake was not taking care of her instrument, and now she's facing the consequences. People shouldn't be blamed for wanting more Daydream, Butterfly or TEOM quality in her music, she used to sell a product with a certain level of quality, why should people settle for less? I hope that now that she's releasing singles, she focuses on quality rather than chasing the next hit. Songs like "Almost Home", "Help Me Make It (Through The Night)", "My Love", "100%", and "Andy's Theme" can sit pretty with Mariah's body of work. But would you put "Infinity", "Why You Mad", "Infamous", and "I Don't" even 2 miles away from her epic music? (all caps) I don't effing think so.

Article: Mariah and the twins hit the Kids' Choice orange carpet (73,579)
by Edward from USA
| |
|

Those who were always hating on Nick should be happy that now she ended up with Stella. They focused on the fact that he talked too much and forgot about the fact that it didn't matter much if they actually loved each other and had a great marriage. The man tried to deal with the circus Mariah Carey had around her, but sadly their relationship couldn't trump that. Nick not only married Mariah, but also married a bunch of jealous and over-protective super lambs. He felt like he had to prove himself all the time that he even ended up in the hospital. He couldn't relax a bit and enjoy his marriage because he had to show the naysayers he wasn't just a toyboy or a kept. He was accused of using her when he was already successful by the time he married her. I guess the haters just deserve Stella. They worried too much about Nick having diarrhea of the mouth, and now the shit is spreading all over the place, and it's not coming from him. Nick is a good man and father, and I'm glad he's doing well. He clearly doesn't want to be part of that circus anymore, and I don't blame him for that. Anybody who comes near Mariah as a potential lover is going to be criticized, degraded, and called all kinds of derogatory epithets. Had he been such a cheater and bad man to her, she wouldn't look genuinely happy when he's around. That glow she has is not only for the sake of keeping face and co-parenting. That's real. When they are together is the only time she glows leaving the fake smile behind. End of rant. Lol.

Those are really some great pics. Mariah, Nick, and the twins look so good together. It's sad their marriage didn't make it, but at least they really have each other's back. One thing I love about Mariah as a mother is that she actually dresses her kids as kids, not miniature versions of her or Nick.

B, did you know that once Rainbow was completed, Mariah got complete creative control of her music. Charmbracelet was the way it was because Mariah wanted it so, not because any label told her anything. Charmbracelet was a very personal album to her, so she emulated her Butterfly sound and even made the connection, but different from Butterfly, she whispered the whole album through. Mariah, just like Beyoncé, get her music together and then presents it to the label, they might reject a certain song, not want to go with a certain single or make suggestions, but they do not interfere by imposing producers, way of singing, or other lyricist to her. What the label and her manager did was work in the background to gradually develop a likable image of her again, something that paid off by the time TEOM was released, and lasted up until Merry Christmas II You. After that, people started disliking her again because of her diva antics and her tired dahlings, thank God she seems to have forgotten about them. Had she not followed LA Reid guidence the two songs that basically carry TEOM wouldn't have happened, but it was combination of great music, great direction and great management. When Mariah leaves her ego behind and listens to those people who know, she usually end up with a great product.

I echo your sentiment. Most of the fans who experienced her glamour, status, and class in the 90's feel exactly the same way. I don't know one of her fans from back then who didn't feel excitement when her music was about to come out. A single from Mariah Carey wasn't just a rushed half-cooked song, it was a production. There was something for everybody on her CD singles. The Heartbreaker single was amazing, we got "regular" and "no-rap" versions, then we got three excellent dance tracks, it was fire. Everything was so well calculated, promotion was on point, she could do no wrong. But those were the days when she had real professionals helping her build her brand and making her protect that which would make her the star that she was, her voice. Now, she has a bunch of sycophants in her team and many yasss-queen fans destroying what's left of her brand. And who's the common denominator in all this? Well, Mariah is. She's a musical genius, but she's also her worse enemy. Mishka says "but you have a nice ass", and her ego gets the best of her clouding her judgment. Her first f-up was not taking care of what once was considered national treasure, her voice. I will always resent her for that. I expected her to have gone through changes like any other human being would, but not like this. It infuriates me when she yells a note nowadays and she thinks she's slaying or producing a pleasant sound. But oh well, those were the days. All these past few songs "Infinity", "Infamous", and "I Don't" seem such a let down compared to what we know the woman is capable of. I wish she had retired after her Merry Christmas II You album. End of rant.

Andrew, Mariah and Tanaka look great together visually, but the supposed relationship is what looks to me like mother and son or nephew and aunt, or maybe employer and employee. I'm 100% supportive or women and cougar love. I don't see anything wrong with it, but Mariah and Tanaka's relationship is as real as Molly was Mariah's assistant.

Andrew, didn't you know there were a couple of members from the Westboro Baptist Church on this board? I thought you knew. Get a man for them is the equivalent of calling you a f****t, but since Eric wouldn't post it, with tears in their eyes for not being able to spit their hate like they do on the streets, they just say: get a man. And remember, you should feel so bad from that implication that you should close your account and go commit suicide. What I find funny is the fact that some of the gays here were saying: yasss girl, you slayed him. Lol.

Re: Jazz album / Lana Del Rey (73,467) (73,469)

The thing about releasing only singles is that we might not get those gems that usually come as album cuts. At this stage in Mariah's career, she could definitely take chances, and stop chasing he next hit because with her formula it doesn't seem will happen any time soon. Singles like YM(E), Infinity or I Don't haven't made a good impression. By rehashing the same old tired R&B formula without infusing it with something new like John Legend does, I don't think things are going to work well. With the creative control she has over her music, and since she doesn't rely on album sales to make her money, she could craft an album without worrying about sales and popularity. She makes more money from a couple of concerts that what she would make from her album sales. Out of 200k copies, after everybody is paid and investments have been recouped, she might end up with nothing in her pockets. So, if there's a time for her not to worry about the next big hit and make some experimental stuff, it is now before her voice is completely shot.

I don't understand the use of so much profanity in a post when it is going to be censored anyway, rendering the post unreadable. I could understand if it were a word, but most of a post doesn't make sense to me. This is not in defense or against anybody in particular, it is just annoying when it happens. It also happens when some people post using all caps or when what they have written doesn't make sense because they don't use punctuation.

You're so on point. Why worry about Stella's statements and weird behavior when they're both having a ball while doing it? For me Mariah can start camel-toeing as high as her belly button every day on camera, it's not worth stressing over what she's having fun with. At this point, nothing's weird or with lack class coming from them all surprises me anymore. In the meantime I'm enjoying Ed Sheeran's Divide, a breath of fresh air. Such a great album.

It's not like Mariah doesn't know Crustella's going to make those comments. She agrees with her foul mouth and unprofessional behavior, actually she has adopted some to herself. It seems to be Mariah has finally found her very own Pat Houston. I hope the story doesn't repeat itself. At least it's comforting to know the twins would end up with Nick and his mother.

Licia, I must say that Mariah's version of "The Beautiful Ones" is epic. I expected her to do something similar with "One More Try". "The Beautiful Ones" and "Outside" would be my second and third choice from "Butterfly".

You know Stella aka Edouard would take this as an attack and complain. I would definitely pick Butterfly, Mine Again, and One More Try (not her Minnie Mouse on helium version). I'm pretty sure that back then she would've gone all out with One More Try, vocally that is. But just in case, I would say: Butterfly, Mine Again, and Make It Look Good. I think those three songs wouldn't disrupt the mood of the album. Putting anything too hip hoppy on it wouldn't make much sense.

It's obvious Mariah got cheek implants. I don't see anything wrong with Mariah enhancing herself a little bit with plastic surgery here and there. I just hope she keeps it to a minimal. Mariah doesn't seem to take advantage of a non-invasive procedure that could render her looking super fabulous, and that is exercising. If she exercised regularly, her body would look toned, she would lose weight and be able to walk without help on stage and on the street with those stilettos she wears. Jane Fonda is a great example of being realistic. She felt younger than what her face showed. She got something done on her face not to look that old, but she clearly didn't want to look like Joan Rivers either. I love me some Joan Rivers, but the woman's face was so stretched she didn't resemble her former self at all. RIP Joan, still love you. Even though Mariah is enjoying her newly-found booty, she has lost those long beautiful expensive legs she and the fans used to brag about. Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying Mariah got her legs cut off and now is using prosthetic ones, I'm just saying that with the weight, she added lost of junk to her trunk, but she also lost those exceptional legs she used to have. And for God sake Mariah, to have been walking on high heels since you were three, you should have a better command of those things. You should walk on them as if you were on flats.

Nikki, I love your unique ability to close your eyes and pretend that the emperor has clothes on. By following your method, when I close my eyes, I can clearly see Mariah's Instagram, Facebook and Official website from 1990-2008. It's full of pictures of Mariah's public display of affection with Tommy, Derek, Luis Miguel, and Nick. I think you're kinda psychic. You should try and see if you can tell when it's going to rain.

When Mariah was with Nick, she was still classy. I would like you to show me a pic of Mariah looking desperate with Nick. She didn't look desperate because she was in love, she was in a real relationship, she was glowing. She wasn't looking for attention back then because she was still very popular riding on the TEOM success and with a very good cohesive and fun album out, with a recent #1, that actually had a fun and great video. That was a different Mariah. Packer and Mariah looked more like business partners, most of their romantic pics lacked taste and were purposely leaked to TMZ by Crustella and Mariah. She hired a photographer to take ridiculous pictures of her and Tanaka at the beach in Hawaii just for the sake of a fake reality TV show, the pics looked ridiculous and laughable. If you want to pretend these tasteless pictures on her Instagram don't make her look like a desperate woman looking for attention, I suggest you open your eyes because that's not the Mariah we experienced up until 2013. That "It" thing that distinguished her from the rest is gone. She's acting just like another Reality TV personality, and not one even remotely close to the Kardashians, rather like one of The Real House Wives.
