This is a straw man argument and is somewhat pathetic. Nobody here had ever asked for nineties Mariah back, nobody expects it, nobody even alludes to it. People are asking for decency and honesty in performance. And "slightly thinning hairline"? Yeah *cough* that's my problem, too. Lol.

Buddy, Mariah really does think a lot of herself. If any of your friends behaved in this way you would call them obnoxious and ditch them. This whole "lack of confidence" thing is bullshit. She loves herself some Mariah.

The Bang Whimper Theory (84,051)
by Andrew from UK
| |
|
|
Buzz single? Listening party? Just release the bloody thing if it's finished. Mariah has an uncanny ability to drag out talk of an album to the point where you end up resenting the bloody thing before it's even released. And if "With You" really is some slow jam then she's missed the boat. If you don't come back with a bang you go out with a whimper (see: Charmbracelet).

I, for one, think the title "With You" puts a shit load of pressure on the song. It is, essentially, the opposite of "Without You". Actually, it could just be an updated "Without You" as another "[censored] you, you cheated" song. "I can't liiiiive, if living is with yooooou".

Please make me understand, what is Mariah nervous about, all of a sudden? She has performed a lot in her life. I have never in my life heard of an international superstar who, suddenly, got nervous and craps herself on stage. This seems to be nonsense. I'm at a loss.

It's got nothing to do with Trump, Brexit or the price of fish. People who actualise violence upon those with whom they disagree are just laughable morons. And it increasingly seems to be the go-to stance of the very left wing and liberal whose moral grandstanding is based upon the idiocy of calling someone a hater with words of insult and hatred, trying to silence people by beating or frightening them into submission, or silencing people by labelling them with now meaningless labels or removing their platform to speak altogether. They then, and here comes the laughable point, claim it to be under a banner of righteousness. Whereas its just a load of barefaced stupidity from those with little intellectual or emotional maturity. Indeed, the truth doesn't seem to matter anymore in case it hurts people's feelings. Rather, let's just all make stuff up so we can carry on the party, eh? Case in point: Mariah can now no longer sing well because she has been wearing heels all this time. That's right, heeeeels. She got the stiletto-staccato going on, eh? Hah. And she was wearing a corset - if a corset stops a singer who already has difficulty singing from singing, why would said singer put the bloody thing on? Mariah's "nervousness" is now most cited as being the reason she can't hit notes. Laughable and contemptuous. Mariah can't hit notes because she, um, isn't physically capable of getting her voice up there anymore, in the same way I cannot get my voice up there. It's just not going to happen. I base this upon simple viewings of her performances and my brain and conscience which does not allow me to believe barefaced untruths. I do agree with Randy that Mariah's voice has often come and gone, flowed and ebbed, and nobody in their right mind is expecting her to sound like before. But recently the damage seems done to the point you have to ask "where is this going next?" I am, like most people, excited that there is another Mariah Carey album coming out and if there is indeed another impressive vocal period coming then I'm all for it. It just doesn't sound like there is. And that new album best not have vocal acrobatics on it because I will be first in line to call the bullshit police given she can't even get into a range my 9 year old niece can belt at. Can only wait and see. But not being to do the "I said everybody looking at us on the floor like 'what?'" from It's Like That is a very limited vocal range, indeed. She didn't even get close. Nevermind, the Caymus bottle was waiting backstage. That'll fix it.

I don't even need to criticize this surely. What an unmitigated horror of a performance. I just feel bad for her. There is no "current voice". There just is no voice. I feel complete and total sadness.

Buzz? (83,859)
by Andrew from UK
| |
|
|
Somebody explain the difference between buzz single and first single when both have videos, both are available for sale, both are from an upcoming album. This is just semantic nonsense to manipulate the public when things don't go so well. GTFO is the first single from the album. Someone prove me wrong and I will happily capitulate if it makes actual sense.

On its first day GTFO was only the 284th top streamed video on YouTube. Having an average video severely hurts your prospects these days. Mariah's issue here is her vanity. She will only film videos where she looks perfect and the environment is controlled from every angle. Whilst is may make her look pretty it makes for one boring ass video that nobody wants to watch in a time when views count towards charting positions.

The Social Justice Warrior diatribe about ageism being why Mariah hasn't sold anything in a decade is, ironically, getting old. Young people buy music the most. They identify with young artists. It's not an -ism or representative of bad character for them to do so - in the same way that young people tend to date people of their own age and not 50 year olds. However I recall Cher reaching number one at a ripe age. If you have a stone winner of a song it will get noticed no matter how many grey hairs you are hiding.

Re: Cussing ruins it for me (83,769) (83,778)
by Andrew from UK

The profanity is not lazy, it works well with the song, the theme etc. What is lame is that Mariah is resorting to cheap tricks to get noticed. She continues to cheapen herself without hindrance. The video is shameful and hideous. Is she so content with being known as an alcoholic lush? Has she left no self-respect? No sense of decency? No new ideas? No money for an actual video? I think the world has paid more dues looking at those tits than she did money buying them. And of the song, calling it a "buzz" single is disingenuous at best. It is from the new album. It has a video. It is available to buy. It is her lead single no matter what tripe her PR machine comes up with "just in case". And, yet, it's quite good. But Anytime You Need A Friend or Honey it is not. You won't be playing it for decades to come.

GTFO (83,737)
by Andrew from UK
| |
|

Funny how singles become "buzz songs" when the feedback isn't that good. Why film a video for a "buzz song"? As a single it is terrible. As an album track I have to say it could be really good depending on how it slices up the rest of the album. But why put this out at all? It is bewildering. As for the profanity, well, [censored] it.

Re: 5 best songs of the 90s (83,661) (83,666)
by Andrew from UK

It is a spectacularly awful attempt at prose. But then look at the publication from which it came (yeah I'm doing it on purpose lol) - TV mag trash. My biggest gripe is the order of the top 5. I know people are entitled to their opinions but mine are always correct. As the 90s move ever further away in years and our consciousness, I have, with hindsight, changed my mind about the top Mariah song of them. It surely must be All I Want For Christmas Is You. That song will outlive all of us and be played every year long after the memory of Mariah and even our own grandchildren's grandchildren have dissipated. Surely it is one of the greatest songs of all time. I don't like the fact that Mariah will be remembered for Christmas which is somewhat gimmicky, but it is a true modern masterpiece. Number one song of the 90s it must be. Even if she's made numerous efforts to [censored] the song up ever since.
