Charmbracelet (104,852)
by Libra Lamb from USA
| |
|
|
Charmie is one of my favorite albums. Charmbracelet walked so The Emancipation of Mimi could run. This album did not get the love and support that it deserved when it was released. One of the best feelings was getting the South Korea version of the album with the bonus disc and extra songs from eBay. There Goes My Heart anyone? I bought a ton on eBay too. I sure miss the days when I could go to Tower Records or any music store and look for mostly imported albums and singles of Mariah’s releases. Nowadays everything is mostly digital and while I can appreciate that, I miss adding to my collection of rare CDs from her catalogue. Those were the days, I know I sound old but the children today will never know the feelings we would get from finding rare CDs with the remixes and different album artwork.

Songs in the Key of MC (104,851)
by Libra Lamb from USA

I think that is a great idea. She usually comes up with perfect album titles, except MIAMTEC, but including the fans suggestions she would have a lot more to choose from. I don't like Songs in the Key of MC either, Terna is right, it's too similar to Alicia Keys'. The Elusive Chanteuse would have been good enough for me or The Art of Letting Go even better instead of MIAMTEC. BTW Happy New Year everyone. I hope we get new MC album this year.

Obsessed in the UK (104,598)
by Libra Lamb from USA

The only thing I didn’t like about this era was that We Belong Together blocked Shake It Off from reaching the #1 spot on the BB Hot 100. That aside, everything was on point. I remember seeing the video for It’s Like That on MTV when it premiered and I knew then this was going to be a really different era for Mimi.

For me ILT was pure fire and a powerful start to what we now know was a definitive [record] and [era] in her whole career. I always say the stars [aligned] just for Mariah in 2005, but she also hit the ground running with that January release. Then came the song of her career "We Belong Together". Everything about "The Emancipation Of Mimi" was well planned, well executed and came out better than expected. I hope just one last time she can recreate an era as successful as that time, if anything for the new generation of Lambs.

For the life of me, I don't know why you guys keep entertaining this clown. It's best to just ignore it and maybe it will go away one day. Anyone else in the UK that can splash it with some holy water? I don't read its posts, much less reply to it. It's desperate for attention and y'all keep falling for it. That aside, have a great weekend everyone and congratulations to Brenda Lee.

Oh Santa original vs JHud/Ariana version (104,394)
by Libra Lamb from USA

I personally like the solo version better, but that goes for all of her songs. I prefer her singing solo, with the exception of I'll Be There and a few of her other songs, I don't know if it's because it's always been her and Trey Lorenz on that song. Just my two cents, I'm not trying to disrespect anyone she has had the pleasure of working with.

What's everyone's opinion on this? It's interesting that the JHud/Ariana collab didn't do much to the song. I personally thought their voices didn't blend so well, and there's no chemistry between them on the video. It wasn't cute or engaging. But we said the same with the AIWFCIY collab with Bieber.

I'm happy with the success she's had with that song already, let someone else have number 1. It's not like it's not been there already. Christmas songs are so competitive these days, but at least Mariah has a song that's considered one of the last classic Christmas songs.

What are some things that some of you have done because you saw Mariah did or liked? I have a few so I'll go first. When Mariah listed Four Christmases as one of her favorite Holiday movies I had to watch it even though I don't care much for Reese Witherspoon or Vince Vaughn. It was an okay movie. Also I bought her AIWFCIY plushie after I saw hers on her mantle or something like that on one of her social media posts. It was so fetch.

I agree with most of these tracks except I don't care to hear Justin Timberlake or want Mariah associating with him. He's a snake and has done some shady ish towards women. Merry Christmas 4 All would also be funny and fitting. She can do no wrong when it comes to album titles, except for Me. I Am Mariah, the Elusive Chanteuse, which is my least loved album and title. I would absolutely love another Christmas album with a mix of classics and original songs. Nothing remixed or reworked though. I don't think there is anything anyone can do to stop AIWFCIY from charting high every year. The song is bigger than anything during the Christmas holidays. Bigger than Santa Claus even. Mariah has hijacked the holiday and she's not giving it back. She'll be 80 years old and still doing her annual Christmas concerts.

No, just no she's over doing the Christmas thingy and it could easily backfire and have everyone tune out mentally on her Christmas offerings, including AIWFCIY. I sure hope she isn't cooking up another Christmas album. That would be overkill. The only thing Christmas themed I would want to hear from her is an official recording of "Away in a Manger" with Roe Roe and her own version of "Where are you Christmas". Mariah dear, absolutely no new Christmas albums for you.

Parents still have the option of providing a smartphone and internet to their children. If it were my kid, I'd buy them a straight up phone without the internet and actually monitor my kid to protect them. It's up to each parent out there and how much they care about protecting and monitoring their young ones. Providing internet and monitoring children is absolutely an option. Problem is the parents don't want to parent anymore, they're too wrapped up in social media themselves like it's more important than the kids. I know this might trigger some people out there but it's just an observation and my "dated" opinions.

"It's not Sam Smith's responsibility to protect children, that's what their parents are for." Libra Lamb, I usually agree with your points of view except this one. That argument is very dated especially in the smartphone/social media age we live in today, with the entertainment industry practically inescapable. Audio and video streaming are at kids' fingertips with just a simple click most notably YouTube. Sam Smith went from being a respectable singer who came across as super talented, to straight up gender confused clown show, kinda like what happened with Miley Cyrus and the world immediately tuned off and out on those two. To think there was much a do about Mariah dressing sexy in the late 90's, when compared to the stunts pulled by today's acts she would be Mary Poppins. The difference is Mariah did hers with class and never crossed the line, Sam Smith and Miley did in a very repulsive way.

As wrong or weird in almost everything you've ever said, as you are - you are correct in one thing: if Sam Smith were not obese and unattractive I may just appreciate a performance he puts on. But he is obese and unattractive and puts on vulgar performances viewed by minors and I don't like it.
In fact, many people don't like it. If he puts himself out there doing it - people are going to voice opinions on it. Being so-called "queer" does not make absolve you of responsibility over your actions.
So your ad hominem attacks won't work with me. What does work is exercise, so hop to it, now, sweetheart: you're not in the Fitness Protection Programme. Keep running from the Carbs.

As a grown ass person, you should know that it's not Sam Smith's responsibility to protect children, that's what their parents are for. The parents are 100% responsible for raising their children and protecting them from such things. As an artist, and an adult, he can do whatever he wants on and off that stage. Nice try, but no. I do agree that children should be protected until they are old enough to understand and make up their own minds, but again, that's the parent's responsibility.

Spanish, which is my first language, has a binary grammar gender system, differentiating masculine and feminine. Pronouns, nouns, articles and adjectives are all gendered and they have to agree in number and gender when you use them. The city government in Buenos Aires, the nation's capital, banned teachers from using any gender-neutral words during class and in communications with parents. The city's education minister said such language violated the rules of Spanish and stymied students' reading comprehension.
As a grown ass person, you can identify yourself as whatever you want, but leave children alone. Pushing gender ideology on children is criminal to me.

Nothing you said makes any sense, I don't know if you're serious, joking or crying out for help. Think you know my thoughts? Either way, I stand by my statement and we can agree to disagree. No one said anything about transphobia, it didn't even cross my mind. But since you brought it up, I've been known to call out and unfollow/unfriend friends and family that are transphobic and homophobic. I hope that doesn't keep you up at night too like Sam Smith's gender identity. How about mind your own business about what other people identify as, try it I promise it's not that bad. You could instead focus on yourself and seek happiness because no-one that is that triggered by other's genders is truly happy. It's okay to not like someone or their artistry, what's not okay is to discount how they feel and what they are going through inside. That was my point the whole time.

I bet if Sam Smith was muscular and attractive to you, you wouldn't mind him sweating up a storm on stage. I bet it's the fat phobia that's getting to you more than the gender identity issue. You are an onion Andrew, with lots of layers, just not good ones. I usually just scroll past your posts but since you felt the need to jump in for your online friend and I will always stand up for the queer community when getting attacked here we are. I know treating others the way you'd like to be treated is not a concept you can live by, that's why you keep getting banned from here. But go off with your self righteousness. You're killing it.

Sam Smith has embarrassed himself with ridiculous and disgusting stage performances. I don't know anyone who wants to see an obese, sweaty, unattractive man on stage acting like it's daring - and not vulgar - to behave the way he does. It was daring 30 years ago, today it's just pathetic. Madonna take note.
The two of them trying to reclaim the word "vulgar" amplifies the patheticness of it all. They both look desperate and somewhat oblivious - a bit like Miley "Yeah we do what we want cos we, like, do what want" Cyrus. I don't know anybody - anybody - who does not think that Sam Smith and Madonna are desperate has-beens.
Mariah is often called a has-been but the Christmas defrost keeps her quite relevant. Whilst thinking on this I realise that Mariah x Christmas is something I should fully support. Thus I call again for a third Christmas album - perhaps a Christmas duets album.
As for his "gender identity" Sam Smith is free to declare what his pronouns are - just as Edward is free to declare that he is not going to use them when referencing him. Gender Theory like Race Theory can be used as attempts to control language, thus controlling education and the minds of the young. You are free to believe in it, just as most people, who refuse to flatly deny observable reality, will not.

How insecure does someone have to be to diminish and discount a complete stranger's gender identity? If you don't understand it, it's okay to say that. But you are nobody to to call it "crap". How about treating others the way you'd like to be treated instead? Seriously, it's so damn ignorant. Mind your own business and be glad that your gender identity is not being attacked by complete strangers. Is it that hard to respect everyone even if you don't understand their gender?

Madonna is definitely out of touch with reality. She should have some respect for herself, her family and her legacy. I've always given her props for staying fit and giving her all in her concerts, but she's definitely in denial. You can be a woman or a man of a certain age and still have some class. As for Sam Smith, as much as I like his first two albums, he's turned into a clown. It is simply disgusting. This gender idiology crap has permeated into everything, it's ridiculous.

I also have a new found appreciation for Music Box, it was never my most played album, but with these new gems it makes me want to listen to it over and over again. I'm loving it and am so happy with these unreleased songs finally seeing the light of day, old and new fans can appreciate the hard work that went into these recordings. I also noticed that only with the release of new MC music this board is happy and peaceful, without new music things can get a bit aggressive and confrontational. So for our sake, I'm hoping she keeps releasing more new music or previously unreleased gems. If nothing else, for peacekeeping.

I really got choked up listening to the extended version of "Anytime you need a friend". What can I say about "My Prayer"? A true masterclass. The phrasing, the interpretation, the final belt, wow, just wow. I also can't believe "Working Hard" was left out. Actually, with the three main unreleased songs from those sessions, the two b-sides and details like the full version of AYNAF (or the Walter-less version of "Dreamlover") you really get to see Mariah's true vision for that album and what the intervention of Sony (Tommy) felt like. You really get the artistic sacrifices yet still admire Mariah's to straddle both worlds, meaning her artistry as well as the direction for mass appeal. I have a whole new appreciation for Music Box given that for a long time it's been my least played Mariah album, although it is the first album I fell in love with. Lovely commemoration.
