About Bill from the UK: I love Mariah more than you do.

Re: Top 3 favorite rap collabos (59,851) (59,859) by Bill from the UK
Mine would be:
1. Fantasy with ODB - It's obvious, but it lit the fire and I never tire of hearing it.
2. If We - My favourite song from Glitter. Have it on repeat for hours on end sometimes lol.
3. I Still Believe/Pure Imagination - So serene, melodic, inventive, soothing, slick, and soulful. For me this remix far eclipses the original version. It has absolutely nothing in common with the original except the title and for that reason I love it. Not that I don't love the original of course, but it just amazes me how she can produce a completely new song for a remix version.

Re: Ten years ago (59,822) (59,825) by Bill from the UK
Haha. I was born in the early 80s and became aware of her during the Music Box era when Dreamlover was released. Fell in love when I first saw her running around that field and haven't looked back since. It was great riding the crest of the wave of her popularity. When Fantasy was released it was incredible. It's sad that a generation miss out on saving money to buy her singles, walking into the record store and seeing the single cover and it being completely against your expectations (I had a mini freak out when I saw her straightened hair on AYNAF haha), collecting the records she put out in other countries, having MTV on all weekend and requesting her videos. All so accessible nowadays, but so great that she scoops up new fans with every era. Little do they know the treasure trove of past masterpieces that awaits them.

The Remixes - a missed opportunity (59,804) by Bill from the UK
Ben's post about the Classic Bossa Nova remix of Butterfly reminded me of how disappointed I was with The Remixes album when it was released. The first disc, with the club mixes, was great (although I did miss the ABMB Morales mix, that was a major omission and wish it had been included instead of the rather lacklustre TTR remix). The second disc was a real let down though. It started off okay but it just ended up being half filled with album cuts like Sweetheart, Crybaby, Loverboy and even remixes already on previous albums like Heartbreaker, there were so many great mixes that should have been included. Where on earth was the Pure Imagination remix of I Still Believe? The Drifting Remix of UTS would have been great for fans who never heard it before, likewise for the Butterfly and DYKWYGT club mixes. It could have contained some really hard to come by mixes, but instead it fell a bit flat. Great for the casual listener I'm sure, but MC has committed so much to her mixes over the years it was sad to see the opportunity to show off the rarer ones pass by.

Re: In Rainbow's defense (59,776) (59,783) by Bill from the UK
I think Rainbow is a great album. It took a while, but it's actually now one of my favourites. I do agree though that the sound quality is not great. You can really hear the distortion on the last chorus of "After Tonight" when she belts out those words. Shocking really considering the label, artist, and resources. But Heartbreaker, CTTA, Bliss, X Girlfriend, Crybaby, Petals, Rainbow... just excellent top-shelf songs. Much more varied and interesting than some of her other albums.

Re: Mariah Carey - My All Caesars Palace 02.02.16 (59,749) (59,750) by Bill from the UK
The thing is as well, the trolls compare a current performance recorded on a phone, of all things, against professional televised soundboard/dubbed performances from 20 years ago. Do like for like and listen to an undubbed Music Box concert recorded on a handheld tape recorder and there's really not much difference considering the twenty year gap. (Strokes pet unicorn lovingly.)

Re: MC sings with the interviewer (59,642) (59,646) by Bill from the UK
MC was smiling when she was singing, laughed afterwards, and was graceful about being put on the spot. Andrew, baby it's all in your mind. Just enjoy the moments of festivity, life's way too short.

Re: MC sings with the interviewer (59,568) (59,581) by Bill from the UK
I agree M that was a wonderful moment. She sounded as beautiful as when I first heard her sing those lines on the Butterfly album. Mariah's gesture has given that interviewer something I'm sure he will cherish for the rest of his days.

Re: Walter (59,428) (59,443) by Bill from the UK
The Walter songs are all great, but I'd much rather see what MC and Ben Margulies would come up with all these years later. I still play the debut album probably the most out of all of them.

Re: Five songs I wish were Mariah's (59,381) (59,405) by Bill from the UK
Interesting topic. I've always wanted to hear Mariah's take on the following:
1. Reasons by Minnie Riperton
2. My Smile Is Just A Frown Turned Upside Down by Carolyn Crawford
3. River by Joni Mitchell
4. Dream A Little Dream Of Me by Mama Cass
5. Jesus Was A Cross Maker by Judee Sill
The upper register on the Minnie Riperton track are astonishing and I'd love to hear Mariah add her own flair to it. The other songs are all favourites of mine but think Mariah's vocals would really lift them to a whole new level.

Re: Has Mariah peaked with AIWFCIY? (59,135) (59,148) by Bill from the UK
From a UK perpsective, it is certainly her most well known song across all generations. It was really only ever AIWFCIY, Hero, and to a lesser extent Without You that people remember. Despite having a string of top tens in the 90s, they're the only songs of hers ever played on radio stations (along with WBT and I'll Be There), and she is never played as much as Whitney and Celine are. So yes, it does at times seem like AIWFCIY's success kind of wipes out her past catalogue. I was just thinking the other day how great it would be to hear something like Anytime You Need A Friend on the radio, or Vision Of Love, or Through The Rain, or Make It Happen, or My All, but I know I never will. I'm not sure how radio stations work, maybe they don't buy any MC spins because she's not deemed as popular and save their allowance for Christmas? Who knows?

Re: What Mariah song brings you to tears? (58,836) (58,852) by Bill from the UK
Bye Bye. The lines "I wish that we could spend the holidays together" and "it's so hard to accept the fact you're gone forever" just get me every time.

Lol, meet up to listen to you complain about how bad the concert was and how she can't sing and how she lips everything and how she is a shadow of her former self? No thanks.

Re: Superstar (58,714) (58,715) by Bill from the UK
Indeed. But Adele hasn't jumped on the EDM band wagon. If Mariah and Calvin are working together then I hope the style remains true to Mariah. Something in the vein of Meteorite or YDKWTD would work. I'd hate for MC to compromise her integrity for the sake of a hit. Especially if she does venture into EDM and it fails. She managed a hit with Beautiful which was a fresh, well executed track, so she's still more than capable of pulling it out the bag on her own.

Re: 1970 (58,665) (58,666) by Bill from the UK
Playing devil's advocate, Mariah's mother actually said "then by 1970 when she (Mariah) was born..." which could be taken either way. If she was born in 1969, then by 1970, she would have been born. This could be why Mariah never says how old she is lol. But, really, who cares?

Christmas In New York (58,566) by Bill from the UK
MC's freestyle Christmas song was amazing. What a talent to come up with such a great and original melody on the spot like that. She is doing some absolutely fantastic performances as usual at the Beacon and as always looks simply divine. Hope everybody going enjoys themselves and I wish I could be there so badly.

Re: AIWFCIY acoustic version with new 95-96ish vocals (58,169) (58,180) by Bill from the UK
Hi Mandy. The vocals on the acoustic version are all from the original 1994 session. Usually many takes will be done or the song sang numerous different ways before deciding on the final version. It is not an official remix and wasn't from Sony being hacked. It was made by an indepedent remixer who managed to get hold of the original vocal track from 1994. Not sure how he managed that, but assume he has a friend at Sony that was able to get them.

A Christmas Melody (58,143) by Bill from the UK
Okay so I watched the clip of MC meeting Lacey in the corridor. I also watched it in the spirit of the film too. Guys, Mariah isn't trying to re-make Ben-Hur here, it's a light hearted, made for TV film. I thought Mariah's part was funny, especially when she was wriggling her hand in front of Lacey's face haha. You all really need to lighten up and take this film for what it is. Mariah clearly isn't taking herself seriously, so neither should we. Just sit back, relax, chill out and enjoy her for once.

Can't Say No (58,068) by Bill from the UK
This is a really great track and I hope it gets the single treatment with a video and some promo. I always thought the Make It Last remix of Thank God I Found You had a similar chord progression to Can't Let Go and this really highlights that. Great stuff and I hope it does well. I love that MC has re-sung and re-written her song for this, Can't Let Go is such a well-loved song amongst the fans so really pleased to see it come into the current era for a new generation.
