Re: Solange - A Seat At The Table (66,999) (67,021)

I just listened to two of Solange's new songs and they are very nice. She seems to have gone the way of Erykha Badu with her first record "Baduizm" and Jill Scott, with her first "Who is Jill Scott?" Good stuff. Mariah never took that route back in '99-2001 so I doubt she'd take it now, but it would be nice if she got a little more experimental and raw. This is one reason why I would love her to work with Brittany Howard of Alabama Shakes. She is a great musician, and experimental singer, plus they have a little Alabama connection. I wonder who developed Solange's tracks, interesting if it is some of the old neo soul guys. I just found the track information, kudos to Solange for writing all of her songs. Who knows maybe she and M. will work together. She was tweeting up a storm about Mariah this summer. If M. does go a little minimalist let's hope people give it more of a shot than some have for Infamous. Lol.

Kitten and Cotten (67,017)
by RibbonB from USA
| |

I wonder if Lee Daniels will make a cameo on Wednesday with Mariah. Since she is named Kitten and their "lil" pet names for each other are Kitten and Cotton, it would be cute if he made one of his rare cameos. They could both just be themselves. Lee is the worst actor ever IMO lol. I once tweeted him some playful shade about his acting in his movie Shadowboxer and he RT'd it with his own "damn" added. LMAO. I said he was the worst actor in his own movie and he didn't even have lines. His brief moment was too funny though.

I think she will have a good amount of time. They seem to actually perform it on stage as well as the studio time. It looks really good.

Infamous/Dangerous sneak peak (66,981)

Mariah tweeted a wonderful sneak peak of her performance on Empire and she is great. It explains a lot and of course they focus on "It's dangerous". Sounds really good and she is coaching Jamal back to singing confidence.

I am starting to really like the song now, except when I think of it I call it "Dangerous". I can imagine hearing it on the radio. I can't wait to see Empire on Wednesday.

Article: Mariah Carey requested Alan Carr's set be rotated (66,963)
by RibbonB from USA

Mariah interviews well with Alan Carr. Not sure if he was shading her, but I love their old interviews especially the one from the Friday Night Project. Mariah looked and seemed at her very best. She was bright, animated and seemed very happy and was oh, so thin. I hope we get some good interviews when she promotes her newest project perhaps in 2017.

Agreed, I am totally for hearing Mariah and only Mariah singing on her next project. Oh and some good background vocals, either Mariah or others. Lol. I know she likes to collaborate with other songwriters, so I have no problem with the Weekend or whomever as long as they can help her work to her strengths and help her carry out her vision.

The Weeknd (66,950)
by RibbonB from USA
| |
|
|
Starboy may be getting lots of airplay, but it sounds like a slightly improved The Dream IMO. The Dream just never got the level of success as a solo artist that he was seeking. The Weeknd is having his moment, but his music is not that great or timeless. I do love Earned It, for all the drama and attitude and build that it creates, but his song False Alarm is retro, but in a bad 80's pop rock kind of way. Kudos to him for his success, but I hope Mariah gets back to some strong R&B. It would be interesting if The Weeknd could craft a song or two for or with Mariah as co-writer, but his voice is so unamazing I hope they never duet. But if Mariah is trying to get on radio, a duet with him might work, but there is never any guarantee. I hope she only makes music with others because she actually likes the songs. Maybe it's just me, but I am craving an all Mariah project with just great songs and excellent musicians with live instrumentation be it Gospel, Jazz, R&B or Pop.

I didn't throw any shade my original post was clear. I have expressed my opinion about Mariah's World from day one and all along as she has given updates. You think it is a good idea and I don't. No problem, so you carry on as well.

I said early on that I liked it based on the preview snippet. I have listened to the whole song and I like it. Nothing I want to go back to often, but it is ok. I am waiting to really experience it within the context of the show though. I have been sick of Mariah and duets for years now, so I wasn't waiting for anything earth shattering from M. singing with a little boy goat lol. But "Imma" suspend my disbelief for a while and listen to it within the context of the show. Listen, if her acting is bad and the song is bad, I want to be prepared for the onslaught, lol. But, I am hoping for a really cool moment. I am cheering Mimi on and hoping for the best.

Yassss, with a bow and bells on too. Lol. But you know we all debate about songs and like, some love and some hate. I'm cool with liking a song sometimes. I am just saying let's at least see how it fits with the show and just give the whole moment a shot. Those who like it should buy it and support, those who want to support just because will hopefully do that too. Those who hate it, will do what they will do. It just gets kooky up in here beyond reason, when the people who hate want to beat everybody else on the head with it and when the people who love want to beat the haters across their foreheads. Such violence, lol. We all are entitled to our opinions without credibility being in question or loyalties slammed. I know we all do it from time to time, but IJS.

Very easy, from all of the leaks and antics. Plus it is a reality show, which most of them are intentional messes. I could easily ask how can you not, but I don't really care what you think about it? My point was she could have become a rich hermit without doing a reality show first, if that was her intention, like the other person implied.

The show hasn't even aired yet though. Have a little faith already. Lol. What will people say if the song is actually a little hit. Jussie has some fans, the show still has fans and Mariah does have fans who will support and buy the single. Then she has her mini tour to finish and with Hawaii selling out, that is the perfect opportunity for her and Jussie to perform and promote it together. Don't act like she hasn't put out Infamous quality songs before, it is like a lot of her album cuts and better than a lot of songs getting played on radio today. She did a nice thing releasing it before the show aired, maybe that was actually a mistake.

How will you react when all that does not happen? Lol. She may not re marry this dude, because she still isn't divorced and she will never give up music because she loves it so much. I highly doubt she will ever give up the spotlight because she lives for it and she could have done all that without this fiasco of a Mariah's World mess coming up. Also if Nick can hold up a divorce, allegedly, he will certainly prevent his kids from moving across the pond.

Re: Expectation - Estelle and Jussie's Conqueror (66,887) (66,892)
by RibbonB from USA

The original Empire soundtrack did pretty well as a compilation CD to accompany the runaway hit that the show was in it's first year. I think any new CD will have only moderate success as the show is waning and already jumped the shark last year in only its second season. Mariah's song will be a nice addition if they put one out this year. While Timbaland's music on the show was catchy, it was cheesy. I would never buy it, but a lot of kids did and I think those people are still very enamored with the show. I couldn't stand "Up Down" or "Drip Drop", but still remember them. Timbaland seemed to almost put parody music on the show. Lol. This year's music is not even catchy, IMO. "Conqueror" was not a great song to me, but it certainly filled a spot for the show and got Estelle a bit of interest. Mariah will bring her share of interest back to the show and get a little shine for herself in the process. But Hero was Hero and Mariah does not seem to be writing in that vein any longer. Jussie is a parody of a singer, so there is that.

Now this is a very true statement Licia, "Fans like the Navy and the Beyhive are the reason the music industry has been flooded with so much crap music so I'm glad alot of Mariah fans are not anything like them." I do agree with Sheila that some fans seem to take delight in bashing Mariah, but just ignore those types. A lot of people have valid and well thought out opinions that go beyond bitterness and snark of "Mr. Brexit" or whomever. But that refrain about the Beehive and Navy is just so wack too, especially in light of the fact that they do often promote some of the worst music in generations. Mariah is trying to reach younger fans, while still holding true to her musical roots and interests, it will never please everyone. Lol.

Wow. Based on the preview of next week's Empire, "Infamous" will be fire. Mariah's voice is full and powerful and the beat is jamming. It seems like a slow burner. I'm impressed from the 5 second snippett. Whoo hoo. Go Mimi.

Imperfect (66,761)
by RibbonB from USA
| |
|

Here is the only receipt I can find for Mariah and Nick co writing a song together. I recall it was for Imperfect although the article referenced is in French. I recall hearing about this on the old MDJ when Imperfect "leaked". I really wonder why they shut that site down. So thankful for MCA. Perez used to have a field day dissing Mariah and Nick, along with so many other sites. Well now Mariah has the Daily Mail.

Memoirs era interview (66,734)
by RibbonB from USA
| |
|
|
Here is that interview I mentioned. I can't stand the interviewer, but it was a fun and informative interview nevertheless. Mariah looked so pretty and more natural at that time. She was still giving lots of diva, but much more cool with it. Midway through she talks about some of the songwriting and she mentions the infamous remixes to Angels Advocate. I wish they had just worked on making the songs for the project their very best and promoting them to their fullest rather than planning a remix project concurrently, which was really just adding a few other names to the tracks.
