About Matty from Vancouver Canada: I love music of all kinds, with R&B and pop toping my list of favourite genres. I've been a Mariah fan since Charmbraclet, there was something about that album that connects on a deep level. Other favourite albums are Glitter, Daydream, The Emancipation of Mimi, and Me. I Am Mariah.

My Favourite Mariah Songs are: The Art of Letting Go, Fantasy & Shake It Off.

My Least Favourite album is Music Box.

My most start-to-finish listened album (don't-skip-a-track albums): Emotions, Butterfly, The Emancipation of Mimi and Me. I Am Mariah: The Elusive Chanteuse.

Underated? (99,566) by Matty from Vancouver Canada
I know we're not not supposed to discuss other female singers on this platform, but I have to ask what people think about Celine Dion on this forum. She had a full and successful Canadian Québécois career as a child from 1981-1987. But she was also signed by Sony and released her first English-focused album in 1990. Mariah and Celine had the exact same look, and their first English album art are almost identical (Unison and Mariah Carey album art are the exact same, in the same year). Not to mention they both married their managers (Celine's seems to be a fairytale, not a nightmare like Mariah's experience). I wonder why they often are considered so different. Celine even had "rap songs" ah la Prisoner. My question is: did Mariah experience more pressure the Celine? What happened? I would love your thoughts.

Rarities and MOAIA box set. Hands down. CD version would be EOM and MOAIA with the Elle booklet.

Re:Your relationship today with number ones (99,554) by Matty from Vancouver Canada
Great topic. I included the UK edition #1s as well because I wish they got promo in Canada, I sometimes don't understand labels territory choices, anyway:

Vision of Love - Sounds epic and brand new every time I hear it.
Love Takes Time - I sing this to myself and in my head all the time, but never play they actual recording.
Someday - Love. This defines the Mom Jean Generation and love the electric guitar. I feel there's gotta be more behind Mariah's dislike of the song, because it's gold.
I Don't Wanna Cry - A bath tub sob song that's perfect when I need it.
Emotions - Iconic, but also over played as the obvious go-to Mariah song that's not AIWFCIY.
I'll Be There - Anytime anyone questions Mariah, I hit play.
Dreamlover - The remix? Always. The standard version, I only watch the video to see Mariah's plaid look because I still dress like that every day, to this day, a classic look. Plaid and jeans, classic and timeless.
Hero - Skip.
Without You - UK Addition - Her best cover aside from Bringing on the Heartbreak.
Fantasy - My theme song. My favourite song of all time. The song that will be played at my funeral and all my friends and family know. Fantasy forever and ever. My grandkids will know Fantasy by heart.
One Sweet Day - Beautiful, yet I never play it. Too sad and needs a mood.
Always Be My Baby - A turn up whenever it comes on and everyone, Lamb or not, joins in and knows every word. Amazing karaoke.
Honey - Must be driving on a beautiful sunny day with my convertible's top down.
My All - Gorgeous and must listen all the way through with the drama and the theatrics.
Heartbreaker - Number one party starter and most played MC song at the gay club to this day. Epic and infectious.
Thank God I Found You - Corny and forgettable. It's hard not to sing along, but it's a shame this is one of her number ones when Loverboy, Shake it off, #Beautiful never made it there.
Against All Odds - UK Addition - Love this song, and wish the Westlife version was the album version. Guess it was a battle of Westlife and 98 Degrees to make the official album.
We Belong Together - All versions are epic and rip my heart open.
Don't Forget About Us - Such a brilliant song, and play it often. "Kills bees."
Touch My Body - Most epic soft chill summer jam, sitting on the beach in the sun, sipping a fruity drink with a sun burn and sand on my skin. Love the Caribbean seas vibe.
All I Want for Christmas Is You - Any month any time.

Re: I Am Free (99,492) (99,498) by Matty from Vancouver Canada
Wow, really! Re listened with that in mind, and it sounds like a Celine cover still. VOL is its own beast. I Am Free is beautiful, but basic. No VOL.

Re: Reimagining albums into 10 tracks (99,487) (99,489) by Matty from Vancouver Canada
Debut: Prisoner
Emotions: N/A (already 10)
Music Box: N/A
Daydream: I am Free and When I Saw You (slows the album down way to much, very ah la Music Box)
Butterfly: (this one is way to hard): Whenever you call (because we get a better version on #1s), and argh. Breakdown dare I say (I've always seen Breakdown and Babydoll as sister songs for some reason, and I like Babydoll better.) Yikes this one was hard.
Rainbow: How Much, X-Girlfriend, Did I do that, Rainbow Interlude
Glitter: If We, Want You
Charmbracelet: The One, My Saving Grace, Lullaby, Through the Rain (remix), Sunflowers for Alfred Roy (I'm so sorry Mariah, this is only based on song not on personal meaning.)
TEOM: Stay The Night, Get Your Number, Your Girl, To The Floor
E=MC2: LS, LK, T4N, Bye Bye (Heat should have made the final version as the opening track to the album, that leads into Migrate, then TMB into I'm That Chick). The "It's Mariahhhh" opening to Heat was perfect given she was the biggest star in the world at the time and it sums up the summer loving hard hitting vibe of the album perfectly.
MOAIA: Inseparable, Standing O, More than Just Friends, Languishing (which was a hard choice). The remix of UOMF should have been the album version (would have helped with album sales, given this was Nicki's first Billboard entry).
MIAM: Thirsty, Supernatural (again so sorry Mariah, I know it's sentimental), Camouflage, One More Try (even though I love this cover and don't understand the hate, I just like everything else better).
Caution: N/A (but the singles should have gone in this order: GTFO, A No No, Caution, The Distance)

Re: We're Not Making Love Anymore (99,403) (99,407) by Matty from Vancouver Canada
I agree this rumoured duet would have been a number one at the time. However it would have also secured Mariah in the Celine Dion realm of Adult Contemporary. It would be more of the Grandma approved Music Box vibe and she wouldn't have been able to recover. It might as well be a Mariah, Michael and Kenny G love song. We'd be listening to it in elevators and the doctors office.

Re: Blending eras (99,392) (99,398) by Matty from Vancouver Canada
I can actually see what you mean blending Charmbraclet [sic]/TEOM.
"Old school R&B and neo-soul vibe she perfected for Mimi with live instruments, etc. It's like It's Like That was a better Boy, Shake It Off was a better The One, Fly Like A Bird was a better My Saving Grace." It's like she was shy testing the neo-soul old school R&B, so she literally whispered it. On TEOM she was confident in the sound and ripped the damned roof off to the heavens.

Glitter and Charmbraclet [sic] are day and night. It's so weird to think it was released in late 2002. Much like E=MC2 to MOAIA; they seem like they were recorded years or a decade apart. She went from bold colours and bold strong vocals to neutral tones and whispery raw vocals. Although Charmbraclet [sic] is so close and tender to my heart musically and life experience, the album artwork and the aesthetic for the Charmbraclet [sic] tour are so disconnected. She should have used the artwork for Bringing on The Heartbreak as the album cover imo. The single cover art was way stronger then the actual album cover for Charmbraclet [sic].

Blending eras (99,388) by Matty from Vancouver Canada
What MC eras (meaning vibe, looks, style) do you think are the most similar/blended to one another. I’m looking at the Rainbow/Glitter eras and they are basically the same vibe and aesthetic style, the music also has the same fun, sassy, cool, uplifting vibe all around (although vocals on Glitter are hella better). So my vote would be Rainbow/Glitter could be almost one era (let’s focus on the product; not the personal fiascos and what was happening behind the scenes).

In contrast; E=MC2/MOAIA seem like they were years or even a decade apart from each other despite one being released in 2008 and the latter in 2009. Her entire energy changed drastically between these two albums.

Thoughts on blended eras and the contrast to a blended era?

Re: Last really good vocalist (99,376) (99,384) by Matty from Vancouver Canada
Ya, I would agree Christina is the last to be a vocalist in the vain of The Vocal Holy trinity. I'd say Nicole Scherzinger is extremely vocally underrated; she can hit those Mariah/Ariana whistle knows too. Her problem is her content is weak in displaying what she can actually do with her voice (check out Todrick Halls ft. Nicole: Show Off, she gets that vocal height)

I'm a huge Ariana fan, and I'm so curious to see how her voice ages over the next decade.

I was super impressed with the presentation of The Rarities Vinyls package as well. My MOAIA is that awesome boxset, and The Rarities lived up to that standard

Re: Vinyls (99,349) (99,356) by Matty from Vancouver Canada
I feel so lucky to have Glitter for all the original artwork for sure. The shop I found it in, the man who owns the shop said they only pressed 2000-2500 Glitter vinyls. The arrangement of the songs is amazing as well. All the dance jams are on one vinyl and all the ballads on a other one. It's perfect for parties because you don't loose party momentum by a ballad coming on.

Oh I have the Rarities on vinyl as well; I forgot that.

Also, super glad to know #1s is on vinyl. I have Whitney's My Lobe is your Love vinyl, so I've got When You Believe, but it cost $350. I'd Love to hear Whenever You Call on wax.

Vinyls (99,345) by Matty from Vancouver Canada
I was at Indigo/Chapters bookstore today and they had a huge Mariah vinyl display of all her vinyls at the main entrance spanning all albums (Holla ),

Got me wanting to ask, what MC vinyls do the vinyl collectors on this forum have? I'm a huge collector and have hundreds of vinyls that I love blasting during parties. Of Mariah, I personally own Emotions, Daydream, Butterfly 25th anniversary edition, Rainbow, Glitter (rare af, and it's all official artwork and release etc.), Charmbraclet, TEOM, E=MC2, MOAIA, Me I Am Mariah, Caution, Merry Christmas and MCIIYou, #1 to Infinity. I'm only missing Music Box (which is boring, absolutely perfect vocals, however boring content and sleepy) and the debut (which I'm shocked I don't have yet) and #1s (which I don't know if it's on vinyl).

Thanks for sharing what you all have.

Sides: right vs. left (99,263) by Matty from Vancouver Canada
Am I the only one who doesn't see a difference between Mariah's right side verses her hated left? She looks the same, her ears look the same, smile, eyes etc. Any details into why someone told her professionally to "never been seen from that side", please give me insight. (And if you're going to simply say, it's in her head, that's too basic. I need an analysis and a guess at who said it and why they demeaned her that way.)

Tokyo Dome again? (99,097) by Matty from Vancouver Canada
Live at the Tokyo Dome, ok, gotta ya. Ok, so what? Honestly, great vocals. But Mariah never had an interesting concert until the Charmbraclet tour. The Australian tour where she danced a bit was fun too, mostly because of her unbelievably gorgeous hair in that era. IMO, the Tokyo concert is so boring. The staging, the outfits, the standard singing of the songs. It has nothing I love about Mariah. I personally don't connect. I own The Rarities on vinyl and can't even be bothered to listen to the Tokyo sides it in full. It's just boring. Again amazing vocals. Check, got that. Daydream was the first album I heard of Mariah's in my mom's mini van on cassette tape. And that album connects with me so strongly. But this concert is just so lame, simply because I don't see Mariah in it.

Re: MC on James Corden (99,085) (99,089) by Matty from Vancouver Canada
I thought the "Diva Shtick" was done perfectly on Corden last night. The intro at the very start of the show with the Hollywood walk of Fame bit with Mariah delivering the line "You guys can stand up. I don't really make people bow down to me... anymore" was brilliant. Tanaka sitting beside her, completely disinterested on his phone; it set the stage for her taking the piss out of herself during the interview. Then Corden rolling his chair around trying to help her with her good side, and the walk-through-McDonald's shuffle and shoe toss. It was so funny, and the crowd thought it was hilarious. This was the shtick done right. I won't comment on her body (because I don't comment on bodies, it's negative energy). Her gown and shoes were stunning.

Re: Why can't it be 30 minutes Christmas Special 2021 (99,080) (99,081) by Matty from Vancouver Canada
Me and my partner (and our two dogs ) had a whole date night to watch it for the first time tonight ... not realizing it was only 18 minutes long, and mostly an interview. I expected the spectacular we got last year; with even more guest stars, I thought Ariana would come by again, Kelly Clarkson, Kelly Rowland and Nas or Busta. I'm happy to see Tanaka with his cute new hair thoufg. But I thought this would be a true sequel to last years with how massive it was with the public worldwide.

Re: I stopped by to talk about... Drake? (99,064) (99,075) by Matty from Vancouver Canada
Mariah has literally been singing this tune and rolling her eyes at the Grammy's for a decade and a half (a female who was at the top of her game), knowing they are so inconsistent and it's all opinion and music politics based. Now that The Weekend and Drake are getting vocal about the same issue (males currently at the top of their game), the public seem to be all ears and listening and questioning. There's no rhyme or reason for nominations or wins; if it was only what's popular, The Weekend would be nominated in every category that pertained to him in 2020 (rather then a fat snub). If it was all a deep scientific research based deep dive into quality music (whatever that would look like) Milli Vanilli never would have won even if they actually song on their album. Whether it was Emotions (song), the entire Daydream era fiasco, the entire Butterfly album, or even Caution album, the random snubs and dismissal is clear as day that it's an inside hateration job. Is Beyoncé really worth half a million Grammy's? Is U2, seriously? I wish Mariah's intro at talk shows and award shows would stop saying "5 time Grammy winner..." as the lead. Drop that and say "19 World Music Awards; 15 Billboard music Awards, the legend and Songbird Supreme Mariah Carey".

Re: Re: Two questions (99,024) (99,029) (99,030) by Matty from Vancouver Canada
Awww so mixed reviews on the cookies. Bummer. I was hopping for oohy- gooy goodness. Cookies that are almost like cake, ya know?

Anyone with info about what those cards are for, and why you'd buy them?

In other news; can't wait to listen to the FILAC remixes.

Two questions (99,024) by Matty from Vancouver Canada
First, has anyone tried Mariah's cookies and are the delish? (This is a commercial endeavour that I find fun, smart and relevant to the queen of Christmas brand that makes a lot of sense to me, so I'm not at all hating they simply aren't available in Canada and I'd love to know how good they taste.)

Second, what are these cards from her wallet where she's wearing a Christmas marvel mask costume on the cover? I don't understand what they are or why one might purchase them?

I used to look every year for a Mariah calendar or note book at the book stores when I was younger and could never find one. I'd buy those to this day, I just don't understand these drivers license things and what you do with them.

Re: Mariah McDonald's (98,907) (98,920) by Matty from Vancouver Canada
Why's everyone freaking out? One minute everyone's worried Mariah is irrelevant, the next is that she's signed a deal with the largest food chain in the world, who would only do a deal that they know will make money (this isn't Arby's, Wendy's or KFC, it's McD's). BTS fans flipped out and loved when they did it, why are we gonna hate on MC for the same? Is it in contrast to her campaign for Jenny Craig after the twins were born. Yes. But, we can acknowledge she's not getting paid millions for this deal by being "irrelevant". I'm not sure about the rest of the world, but in Canada she's still getting lots of play with her non-Christmas music (Obsessed, ABMB, Fantasy, #Beautiful, WBT). I don't think Mariah is unhealthy at all (she won't glow the way she does atm, and we've seen her rough in the past, at a much younger age). McDick's is a nice treat. No one is forcing anyone to do all 12 days of cheap food. If you do, that's up to you to reflect on.

Re: Aaliyah 20 - August 25th (98,535) (98,537) by Matty from Vancouver Canada
Absolutely; apparently Aaliyah really believed in Rock the Boat as a single and really pushed hard to get it released before MTAW because she thought it communicated more of the vibe of the red album, it was unique and it would be a great end of summer jam; where as MTAW was musically more similar to the first single We Need a Resolution. The label gave it to her because of how impressed they were with that final album, and trusted her judgement when it came to the single choices (something few have trusted Mariah with for some reason). Heartbreaking.

Aaliyah 20 - August 25th (98,528) by Matty from Vancouver Canada
20 years since BabyGirl passed. I can't even fathom the heights that beautiful soul would have reached. I've always believed MC wished she had the freedom to explore R&B the way Aaliyah did in the '90s. What albums do you think are Mariah's "most Aaliyah" albums? My vote is Butterfly and Caution. God bless Aaliyah.

Amazing. According to Billboard-Canada AIWFC is at number 2 (behind Mood by 24kGoldn). Last year AIWFC hit number one for the first time on Billboard-Canada charts.

Music Canada Charts has AIWFC at Number 1 and Oh Santa! at number 4. (You have to pay to see the full Billboard-Canada chart which I ain't got money or priority for, so I don't kow where Oh Santa! is on Billboard-Canada.)

A brunette Christmas (96,900) by Matty from Vancouver Canada
For the next Christmas spectacular era that MC treats us too, I hope she gives us a brunette Christmas, like she did in Christmas era number one, 1994. I feel like her brunette locks are more inviting and beautiful then her blond-caramel, and I've personally always loved the debut, debut Christmas album and Imperfect Angel (ah la Oprah) moments she's give us the most the most, out of all her hair moments.
