About RibbonB from USA: I love Mariah's Music.

Re: New interview (66,045) (66,055) by RibbonB from USA
That's what I was talking about. She was saying "one of the best". But she was also hyping up the people and the food as she always speaks highly of a place when she is about to for there. No doubt she had a good time with a cute man although he had a reputation for cheating. Her life was complicated and in transition then as it is now. Hopefully won't have a similar outcome.

Here is that tweet. I thought it so strange then.

Imma just leave this clip right here. Lol.

Re: Marilyn Monroe (66,039) (66,041) by RibbonB from USA
The only thing that surprises me about it, it she is doing it even more so now than ever and after having had two kids. The timing just makes it seem off. It wasn't a good time for Marilyn as she got older. I also think it is weird that she talks about letting her daughter watch old Marilyn movies even though she doesn't know what they are about. A couple years ago, M. tweeted Monroe holding the movie The Goddess, which is a really weird tragic, melodramatic Marilyn like story from the 50's or 60's. IDK, but I wish them all well.

Re: New interview (66,038) (66,040) by RibbonB from USA
She wants to fill that stadium. Lol. She always plays up the culture where she is or will be visiting. And of course I am sure she did have fun, until it wasn't. Then it got cray.

Re: What the hell (66,002) (66,004) by RibbonB from USA
Mariah was so cute in 2008, she looked natural and happy and relaxed. Lately, her looks are totally extreme along with her makeup. Sometimes it looks scary.

Re: Mariah's songwriting (66,001) (66,003) by RibbonB from USA
She does not play an instrument. She co writes with a pianist accompanying her, she sings out the melody. Or as I said producers present her with tracks. My point was she utilizes co-writers to develop the music and many have presented her with tracks that have led to lawsuits. It's not like she went out stealing music and she certainly writes her own lyrics. It's all in my post. A song consists of music and lyrics.

There has been some really good music and I am interesting in buying a soundtrack if one comes out. Are you watching the show? Seems so good, so far, two episodes in.

Re: Duet With Ja Rule prevented a sophomore slump (65,987) (65,992) by RibbonB from USA
Well the feud will go on as long as M. let's it be an issue for her. She could ask interviewers to leave that issue alone, just as they never bring up the doughnut licker A.G. Lol it's just whatever to me. It's not like M. is ever going to fight her over it, or sue her. *shrug*

Mariah's songwriting (65,977) by RibbonB from USA
People have to remember that Mariah does not generally write her own music, though she does collaborate on the melody etc. She works with musicians or producers bring her in tracks from which she works, so there are a lot of hands in the pot when it comes to any possible lifting. I don't think that Mariah ever deliberately set out to steal or copy anyone's music and certainly not lyrics. Most people are influenced by others and some even pay homage and get a little too close. If it gets too close then they take it to court like the Marvin Gaye family did to Pharrell and Robin Thicke.

Re: Queen Sugar (65,974) (65,976) by RibbonB from USA
I have no problem with her Empire role, in fact I look forward to it. But I think she would really be great in this new show, with her mixed race heritage, she would be perfect for that show's setting, or equally as good, to provide some music. I think Michelle Ndgeocello (sorry for the spelling) is controlling the music for this show, so it will be eclectic and soulful.

Re: Duet With Ja Rule prevented a sophomore slump (65,955) (65,973) by RibbonB from USA
RJJ, I agree with you that sampling and sampling "arrangements" were still relatively was new in the early 90's. James Brown and George Clinton had to jump into the fight early on, due to their heavily sampled music in Hip Hop. One of the most prominent cases that comes to mind is MC Hammer's "Can't Touch This", which totally uses Rick James' "SuperFreak" opening guitar riff. From Wikipedia: "The sample of Super Freak that forms the basis of the song led to Rick James and other performers on the original record to file a lawsuit for infringement of copyright. The suit was settled out of court when Hammer agreed to credit James as a songwriter, effectively granting James millions of dollars in royalties." Now it is common practice to give co-writer credit up front. Dr. Dre used to budget for lawsuits based on songs he sampled in the early days. Since that time, rules and precedents have been established to appropriately credit and compensate writers for songs which have been sampled, or borrowed from. I also agree that it is different from someone stealing the sample that she planned to use. That said, I do think the grudge if you can call it that, is far too long drawn out. Mariah has gone so far beyond all that and Jenny is just whatever, IMO. Lol.

Queen Sugar (65,967) by RibbonB from USA
Wow this new show on Oprah's network OWN, is epic already. The soundtrack sounds amazing. This is the kind of show Mariah would be perfect on, although I think it is a well thought out show that won't be parading random celebrities in cameos. But, Mariah could be perfect on it. At the least, she should try to get some of her music on the show. She has her hands full to the max with so much random stuff though, what a shame.

"Love is Stronger Than Pride" is sublime, down to the last "Ahhh". Mariah could slay that.

Sade's style is impeccable. I love a lot of her subtle music videos too.

Yup, one of my all time faves too. I adore her style, songs, everything. I even respect her space and time away to regroup and create.

Singer-songwriters (65,910) by RibbonB from USA
Props to Mariah for being one of the most prolific of them all and certainly the best selling female artist. There are lots of others who also write songs, including Aretha, Anita, Chaka and one of my other faves Sade. Sade is on her own level because she co-writes all of her songs, but she just drops off, then pops up when she so desires. Sade pays no regard to trends or others' timing lol.

Re: Chaka Khan (65,902) (65,908) by RibbonB from USA
Chaka is also a songwriter, she just doesn't co write all of her songs. She has written or co-written some of her most poignant songs, like "Angel", "Love Me Still" and "Packed My Bags" and I believe "Sweet Thing". She is also a drummer. I'm just giving CK credit for singing live all the time, although she does have a reputation for good and bad nights and even skating through concerts, due to her addictions. It's not about who is better, IMO. I love them both.

Metropole orchestra (65,890) by RibbonB from USA
Happy Sunday, just sharing one of the best live recorded concerts I have ever seen. Wow, for Mariah to be able to perform her set list with this great group. Here is Chaka in 2011 slaying her hits. Sheila please listen to her "Through The Fire" and "Angel". Wow, this is in 40 years in, such a feat. Oleta Adams has a great version of "Get Here" online, also performed with this great orchestra. Such a beautiful way for amazing singers to showcase their voices. This orchestra is so tight with their arrangements, absolute professionals.

Re: Mariah Carey's HIV+ sister (65,877) (65,886) by RibbonB from USA
If you are really interested in a Christian perspective on enabling (which I doubt), here is one. Peace.

Re: Mariah Carey's HIV+ sister (65,877) (65,885) by RibbonB from USA
Most people get privacy and dignity for this subject, there are health privacy laws in effect in the US. It is not always brought up in relation to Magic Johnson, who moved past the salacious headlines, but best believe when he first revealed his status, there were a lot of shook groupies because of his reputation as a player and participant in orgies back in his NBA days. Should groupies be running and getting tested? Yes. Should athletes, rockers, rappers et al. be worried about their actions? Yes. But that doesn't stop people from participating in risky behavior. If M.J. had continued to participate in risky behavior, his status would be constantly posted about as well. A. came out last year making a video plea for help, but she won't stop the actions that put her and others at continued risk. Anyway, the Bible doesn't speak to enabling. M. has offered help and probably still does, but with conditions. A. probably just figures she can get a tabloid paycheck without checking her own risky behavior. Families who do not enable are doing the right thing, addicts often just do what they do best, push for what they want.

Re: M.'s nephew tweets (65,873) (65,883) by RibbonB from USA
Morgan is wrong for selling stories and being so fake to put Mariah on blast, then act like he is afraid to come to the States to help his sister A. himself. To orchestrate her making a video plea for help. A. has medical help, they just want to be treated as if they are rich, which they apparently are not. And Martyn A. is noted discussing her status in a 1995 interview, or at least publicly acknowledging it during that interview, claiming she went to prostitution because she couldn't get a job. No one deals with why she went to prostitution with a fairly wealthy father and with all the resources available to her from wealthy relatives, why she won't stop. She is mentally drawn to that profession and to drugs and financial help merely enables her. She just wants what she wants. There is help available to her if she will accept it, but she wants Mariah's attention, or to dim some of the light that shines on Mariah. IMO.

Re: Alison HIV status (65,870) (65,872) by RibbonB from USA
I agree. It is actually a public health matter because she is a sex worker and it is a matter of public record already anyway. Alison has been talking about it for decades now, trying to draw up sympathy from the general public and more money from her sister. Nobody is seeking her out, she is seeking out the press with videos and pleas along with her greedy brother. She advertised her services on the web herself, where she can be so easily recognized and she especially mentioned to the arresting officers that she was Mariah's sister. She wants to be the headline and she seems to have no floor.
