Welcome back, Lambi. And yes, I can name half a dozen (at the least) of singers (professional and amateur) that can mimic Whitney's and Celine's voices to a tee, where if you weren't look, you'd think it's actually them singing. Mariah Carey the ultimate vocal Olympian though - not a single damn one.

Hey John. There's no restriction on me being here or having an online presence. I just can't discuss, allude to, or hint at any active projects because I'm under NDA, and I'm very careful about that. I can post about anything that's already out and not new information. I come here when I get a break and read, but my frequent posting days are over.
By the way, I love your post about Mariah's voice being that rare flower. I haven't really heard anyone describe her instrument that way before. I also believe that's part of why she's so unbelievably prolific. The good vocal days are limited, so she has to get things done and take advantage when the voice is there.
"You'll see Whitney and Celine vocal impersonators left and right, some quite convincing in their mimicry, but there is no one that can fully embody Mariah's unique tone." I've always felt this way. No one can match that top quality belting tone in My All, Whenever You Call, and Heartbreaker. She is truly a freak of nature.

Geronimo, I really appreciate that you are passionate about deeper topics but you are fundamentally wrong about Mariah on this one. Those in the files are blackmailed and have been heavily protected by the media.
The complete opposite of how they treat Mariah. She took a rather catastrophic slave beating from the media apparatus when she ran away from the plantation. She was persona non grata the moment she stepped out of Sony. That does not reflect someone who is protected or part of an inner elite circle.
Furthermore, when she was 12, she was left alone with older man who was obviously plotting and made her whole entire body freeze the moment he leaned in for a kiss, should signal to you, she's never ever going to put herself in that situation or be in the vicinity of that demonic culture.
I understand your insinuation as these celebrities are slowly being exposed for who they are but to put Mariah in the same category is completely unfair and makes me question: Have you not watched a single interview? Have you not read a chapter in her memoir? After listening to I Wish You Well or My Saving Grace, do you seriously not sense that she is a force for good?

That rare flower that is Mariah's voice (113,284)

I agree. I think regaining her chest and head tone vocal ranges and fixing the vocal damage far outweighs her retention of the whistle note range. Maybe she could go to the studio and record a whole barrage of whistle runs and background vocals and highlights she can use for later recordings, so that in case she loses her ability to do whistle notes, she can still put them in future albums. It would be an intense recovery post-surgery and she would have to swallow her pride and take speech training with a competent speech pathologist, and also singing/vocal training from real (not these celebrity vocal trainers that praise J-Lo to keep their job and say You did that Kween).

That rare flower that is Mariah's voice (113,262)
by John from USA
| |
|

I'd like to think of Mariah's voice as that rare flower that only blooms once every few decades (maybe centuries) - beautiful, exquisite, and unique in its fragrance, yet fragile and short-lived. There was a time in the early 90s where I thought (heck, bragged to friends) that what Mariah can sing is only limited by the heights of her imagination and creativity. L ooking back though, there has always been glimpses that Mariah's voice has always been fragile. Even at the very beginnings of her career, she has always stated she would wake up everyday not fully knowing how many octaves of her voice she can access one day versus the next. Her voice, while she was young, responded to her usual vocal rests and humidifiers, but became less and less reliable as the years went by. It didn't help that she had such difficult songs to sing, that required her to use as much vocal real estate compared to the other members of the vocal trinity. I saw one video that analyzed how Whitney never really went to the extremes of her vocal range (higher and lower extremes) in her concerts. Celine resorted to masterfully miming the high notes and belts early on, which likely helped preserve her voice for much longer. The latter two, by the way, are also natural sopranos. Mariah is a natural alto with soprano capabilities. That she is able to match and even go beyond what these two sopranos could reach vocally is amazing in and of itself. As Mariah got older, the good days (reliable days with wider access to her full vocal range) had become fewer and fewer, with less reliable days became more the norm. I can imaging how that would have been an even bigger handicap to her stage fright. She was a vocal natural, honed further by whatever informal training she got from her opera singer mother. As these unreliable days became more frequent, she eventually developed bad (compensatory) vocal techniques. It didn't help that she did nothing to correct this by getting more vocal rest, or changing her lifestyle and giving up bad habits. Despite all these however, what remains is Mariah's distinctive and unmatched tone. You'll see Whitney and Celine vocal impersonators left and right, some quite convincing in their mimicry, but there is no one that can fully embody Mariah's unique tone. It's amazing how in the latter years, with each album, I notice a little bit more vocal strain and vocal decline. And yet, when I listen to those more recent albums, I still find something I'd appreciate about that distinctive voice, worn and torn as it had been. She is a vocal athlete who did feats I used to marvel at. But just like an Olympic athlete who can no longer win a gold medal decades later, I will not hold that against her that she can no longer match those feats three decades later. She is the ultimate vocal Olympian. Her voice is one of a kind and I am glad to have experienced it and awoken to it in my formative years. As a child, this once little boy had never listened to radio before, until Mariah came along. This is why I became a fan, and remain one to this day.

Yes, since the last two years I often have to think of Marilyn Monroe and Mariah. We all know Mariah adores Marilyn. MM was a diva, sex symbol, most famous woman on earth (besides with the queen, same age haha), plus she had the hardest childhood and was such a beautiful, unhappy woman. I don't want to see Mariah so unhappy in the future. Mariah was always a diva, but it has become a bit too much. I mean the image. It has become hard to see/recognize Mariah the person, the singer behind that big image. I guess it's a shield. But I often miss the natural, carefree Mariah. And it's true, elegance ages everyone. If you want to look younger or youthful, take casual clothes. Everyone looks older with extravaganza and jewelry. It's normal. Non-fans always say the word diva when it comes to Mariah. Personally, I don't like that this is the first thought they have about her. She is so much more and it makes me sad, that it seems only fans/lambs know and remember it.

Exactly. When I was younger, I remember my non-fan friends comment on how much sexier and attractive she was dressed-down in jeans. For someone committed to not acknowledging birthdays, and insisting on being forever twelve, Mariah's aesthetic feels curiously devoted to what the youth now dismiss as old and boring. A much-needed pivot - sharper tailoring, sleeker silhouettes, a refreshed hairstyle - could update her image without completely abandoning the grandeur she thrives on.

I agree I have never been a fan of the long hair and Mariah looks better with shorter hair. I loved her milf cut in 2013 when she sang "Looking in" in New York in her arm sling and her appearance on Jimmy Fallon also from the same year. I wish she would go back to being a brunette.

If she insists on being a statue, at least get a style update. The Cowardly Lion Mane has to go. It totally ages and dates her, makes her even less accessible. Bring back the honey gold blonde hair with more volume up top and maybe even side-swept bangs.

Someone's Ugly Daughter by Bianca (112,686)
by John from USA
| |

I would want Mariah to release a kind of visual album, where each track has a music video, but the twist is that an actor or celebrity is singing is featured on each track ghost-singing to Mariah's voice in their music videos. This would probably make Mariah more accessible to the mainstream listeners of today.

I want that album to be released by the alter ego, Bianca, not Mariah. Mariah has to portray as the brunette Bianca throughout the whole promotional interviews, events and performances. This would definitely create major noises everywhere especially in TikTok. The first single has to be Demented as Mariah wrote in her memoirs that is very personal to her and she named her own record company Crave Records in 1996 inspired from that song. Bianca needs to step up and do justice in performing that song. Who knew maybe Demented is the 20th No 1 single that we've been craving for.

MC super girl group (112,685)
by John from USA

I actually meant an actual girl group vanity project, in the likes of Silk Sonic and Lucy Pearl. I envision hearing new music with callbacks, references, and possibly samples of their respective older hits (especially ones they deem reflects Mariah's influence on them the most). I chose these 4 artists, because they have been the most reverential and loyal to Mariah, plus I think [their] voices will work well together.

My goodness. All the girls Mariah birthed in a tribute medley would be amazing. By the way these are the girlies who openly admitted Mariah inspired them: Beyoncé, Rihanna, Christina Aguilera, JoJo, Kelly Rowland, Kelly Clarkson, Jennifer Hudson, Leona Lewis, Ariana Grande, Fifth Harmony, Tori Kelly, Normani, Chloey Bailey, SZA, H.E.R.
Obviously Beyonce and Rihanna are too big now. Rihanna doesn't really take vocals seriously. Christina is forever mad about being uninvited.
Jennifer and Ariana already came true with Oh Santa. Ariana and Tori also did When You Believe for funsies, but yes I would like a proper cover. I hear Tori Kelly, Ari and Jojo completely slaying Babydoll with a triple harmony.
It sucks because this is such a fun idea but I bet all the pop girlies wouldn't dare (even more now) since Muni sensitive Long put Mariah out of context and is forever butt hurt about a comment Mariah made that was nowhere near being aimed towards her. I'm literally so annoyed with Muni LMAO. What the hell girl.

I want a vanity project super girl group consisting of Mariah and the women she's inspired and influenced the most: JoJo, Brandi, Ariana, and Kelly Clarkson. Let them bounce ideas off of one another, create vocal harmonies and arrangements, and make the best R&B/Pop music the mid 2020s can ever come up with. I don't care if it is a hit. I just want it to be so undeniably great. That said, it ain't ever gonna happen.

Ugh I love this for Mariah and Ariana. What an honor for Ariana to present a milestone award to someone she looked up to since she was a kid and someone who clearly shaped her musical career. And what an honor for Mariah to have someone like Ariana, who is one of the most sought after pop stars of this generation, to be so overtly gracious and complimentary of her. Melts my heart to see them be friends now.

That time Mariah extended Whitney a sister diva helping hand (110,285)
by John from USA
| |
|
|
A little change of pace from the goings on in this site these past few days. In 2008, Whitney Houston went to perform for the president of Kazakhstan. Apparently, because of her vocal condition and her reputation in the industry at the time as an unreliable performer, she was unable to secure background singers for the gig. Her management company was also unable to obtain insurance for potential background singers for the gig. When Mariah Carey heard about this, she immediately bring it into action and offered to send three of her very best female background up singers to help Whitney. Whitney did not even have to ask. Mariah not only sent the ladies an across the world to help Whitney but she foot the bill for their insurance, travel, stay and rate. She sent Melanie, Maryanne and Teka. And y'all know vocalist don't play about sharing their background singers, haha. I couldn't find the YouTube video that originally mentioned this, but here's the link of part of that Kazakhstan concert.

New styling and hairstyle needed ASAP (110,143)
by John from USA

Mariah clearly doesn't know how beautiful she is and how much sexiness she exudes when she is at her simplest. At different times in my life, I've had non-Mariah fans tell me how sexy she looks even in just jeans, such as when they've seen her on the video for Make it Happen, or singing Fly Like a Bird on American Idol back in the day. She needs to ditch the diva gowns and the hooker outfits, and the big hair. These fueled the Miss Piggy and Cowardly Lion comparisons in the early 2010s. Shoulder length hair with more volume up top, and darker blonde or even auburn.

Promising start, disjointed middle, underwhelming ending (110,020)
by John from USA

So, Sugar Sweet is finally out. Started out really nice, with Mariah's voice front and center. Immediately hits you with a Bieber like vibe and "swag". When the 2nd and 3rd non-MC verses come though, why does it feel like for those moments, it stops being a Mariah song? It's missing something... like Mariah maybe cooing or doing backing voice during their verses. Chorus is repetitive with no variation from one to the next. Ending doesn't grip you. I was expecting at the start of the song that it'll take me for a sensual albeit fun and light ride, but that feeling immediately ends when the guest verses come in. This one would've been better had Mariah sung it all throughout. I hope others like it and it still becomes a hit.

So cute reading the responses of people online saying, "We're here for it." I'm definitely excited. I have high hopes for the album, with Anderson .Paak co-writing and producing and LA Reid executive producing and overseeing the process. I just wish her vocals are not going to be as overly-engineered as those in MIAMTEC. Even if she had to record one line at a time, and sleep with humidifiers all around her bed each night in between lines recorded, I'll take those than the tinny vocals we've had on that album. All that said: Type Dangerous is an odd choice for a lead single though. I mean, I want it to be cohesive, and I can't imagine how that song will fit in the entire album.
