Hot 100 (107,698)
by Joachim Agerup Løkkevik from Norway
| |
|
|
Yes, that is very strange. New rule is that an old song has to chart 25 or higher on the Hot 100 to be included on the chart, so how Last Christmas can chart at 38, I have no idea.

Wait, how did Wham's "Last Christmas" re-enter this week's chart at #38 while Mariah's not on it yet? (Brenda Lee either.) What am I missing here?

New music? (107,658)
by Robert-Anthony from United States

I believe you are right, Mimi. Based upon the Billboard Hot 100 chart a year ago, AIW made it annual debut at #17. It is no where to be found on this week's chart dated November 16, 2024. It will be interesting if it doesn't make it to number one this year or who her competition will be battling her for the number one spot. Jason Kelce's Maybe It's Christmas is currently sitting at number #1 on iTunes and MC is number #3.

Christmas shows (107,634)
by Joachim Agerup Løkkevik from Norway

I agree with the people that feels she seems stiff, and I'm too surprised she uses prerecorded vocals so much, I thought her voice was in god condition, and the notes she actually sings live sounds good. It seems like she is affraid to go in higher register live these days. The constant looking at the monitors I really don't know why, she didn't do this until two years ago. As I have said before, I think she used Ozempic a year ago, and I came with a controversial theory that that medicine made her depressed, as is a common side effect to Ozempic. What Ozempic also can do, is causing temporarily dementia, I know it's far fetched, but maybe Mariah has a hard time remembering her own lyrics. Or it's just that her singing is so cut and paste these days it is to remember where she lip synchs and not.

Billboard's 25 greatest pop stars of the 21st century (107,559)
by Joachim Agerup Løkkevik from Norway
| |
|
|
Billboard has counted down the 25 greatest pop stars of the 21st century over the last few months, and the top 5 will be revealed the next weeks. Mariah is not on the list yet, and she was not mentioned in their article about honorable mentions wich consisted of the 25 artists that didn't make the list. It's impossible to think that she isn't mentioned in that article if she is not considered as one of the 25 greatest, so, I think she will be in the top 5.
Billboard accompanies each reveal with a lenghty essay, and she might just be 5th in that list, so be sure to check out Billboard next week and the next five weeks.

Joachim I am so happy you are saved. We are all one big family here regardless if we post every day or lurk or post once in a while. It's a community unlike many with so many great people here. I am here to say that you are one special person to me and many here. Who cares about a few pounds is right-as long as you are still here and fighting and knowing that we all go through our own battles at different times. It's nice to have a family of supportive friends where we feel safe to confide things. Mariah's music alone is therapeutic to most of us here. I am keeping you in my prayers and know regardless of anyone's religion or lack of - that you have a purpose and a higher power has much in store for you.

This community must be one of the best communities in the world. I listened to all of you, and just woke from one of the best nights of my life. Thanks to Jamie who reached out to me personally, and to all the other lambs, thank you again
And Mariah, please never change, but you know that better than me, it's like a blessing from the skies, it's intense, and it's right. Your Christmas shows may be a bit early for me, but I hope to see you in 2025, maybe I'm just talking to myself, who knows, right?
Lambs, keep on posting, we saved ourselves tonight, and that feels juuuust right. Have a splendid Monday, going to start on medication today, who cares if I might gain 20 pounds, It will all be off before first of November.

Christmas shows (107,177)
by Joachim Agerup Løkkevik from Norway

|
I attended the Charmbracelet tour in London in 2003 right before Halloween, and this year I'm actually planning on going back and see her Christmas shows
I'm currently hospitalized for depression with previous suicidal thoughts for the second time since 2009. If it hadn't been for my mobile phone and YouTube and the existence of Mariah Carey, I wouldn't have survived. I have to thank Mariah again for saving my life, thank you Mariah.

She has been practicing lip synching (106,775)
by Joachim Agerup Løkkevik from Norway
| |
|
|
I think what has happened the last couple of years, is that Mariah has had a very good lip synching coach. We all know Celine Dion is the master of lip synching, nobody accuses her of doing it, but we all know she has almost whole concerts with just lip synching.
Mariah is relaxing on stage now, doesn't try to pretend to sing live, just doing the emotions in her face without lifting an eyebrow, and it works, it actually looks like she is singing, it works brilliantly.
The playback is her real curent voice, but to not experience the fear of being caught out, she does that now, I sing it's soothing for her.
And, by the way, Mariah is being seen the heroine in this Jen**fer Lo**z downfall, and that might have something to do with new found respect Mariah is recieving in the world right now. Mariah called out the girl she doesn't know in a very classy way 25 years ago. Karma is a bi**h, isn't it?

Tiny Desk (106,756)
by Shezz from Pk
| |
|
|
I think that is C's well informed opinion based on the last few years' live performances.
She would have nothing here to fall back on, no backing tracks, no play backs and if the last couple of years have showed us anything it's that MC won't perform without them.
Although I 100 percent believe she is capable of giving us a great Tiny Desk performance similar to what she did with Jimmy Fallon for AIWFCIY and the piano impromptu performance. I don't think she's not in good voice, she has lost the confidence in herself and her voice even though she has shown us flashes of it from time to time. Maybe she feels she can't do it at a stretch. It's still a mystery what happens to her during live performances. Maybe it's the perfectionist in her that doesn't want her audience to hear anything off.

Caution is probably better than TEOM (106,581)
by Terna from Nigeria

Um no Sir, just no. The Emancipation Of Mimi was more than just a massive [era], that album literally saved Mariah from being a relic from the 90's, especially after the way her image, reputation and public perception had been dragged through the mud and negatively, intentionally altered by the media, since they held the narrative back then. Basically what they tried so hard to insinuate was that Mariah Carey was now a clown, not to be taken seriously at all. Smh. Until she was not, she deliberately took that narrative back and forced that respect, whether they liked it or not. She needed a monster hit not just a very good song but an undeniable classic, and that's exactly what "We Belong Together" was - a miracle and the kind of magic most artists don't achieve in their careers. This album out of all her other albums is in a lane of its own, and is also a crossing over from Icon to [legendary] status for her. "Caution" is Mariah resting pretty on her laurels safe, secure, untouchable and respected of course, with nothing more to prove. "The Emancipation of Mimi" make no mistake is the main reason for this.

I never really warmed to TEOM as an album. As a fan, it feels like we are required to over-praise it simply because it was a commercial comeback for Mariah. It was nice to see songs like "We Belong Together" perform well, but I personally would have left off "One and Only" and "To the Floor". The ballads like "Mine Again", "I Wish You Knew", "Circles", and "Joy Ride", though decent, were lower quality than those recorded during the 1990-2001 period.
"Caution" works better as an album than TEOM but needed maybe one more song on the original track listing (i.e. "Runway"). The final product proves that Mariah can produce a good album in a time crunch.

Re-release of #1's on vinyl (106,574)
by Joachim Agerup Løkkevik from Norway
| |
|
|
Well, I have WBT as a vinyl picture disc, and the sound on that is not bad, but that is maybe a different thing? Either way, I want it mostly to just make my Mariah vinyl collection bigger, and since I became a fan in 1997 after she released Butterfly, this was the second new release of a Mariah album I bought, after that I also bought Daydream and borrowed Music Box from a friend (and never turned back ).
I have very fond memories from when #1's was released, I got to know more of Mariah's back catalogue, I think I played it every day for a year, and have always put it on when I can't decide which album of Mariah I want to listen to.
So, I want to by it because #1's means a lot to me, and I think the black and silver vinyls will look great, I can't wait.

Re-release of #1's on vinyl (106,572)
by Robert-Anthony from United States
| |
|
|
After Sony's last batch of MC's colored vinyl made avaialble in her store, I didn't like the sound quality of those vinyl records. So now I try to buy black vinyl first whenever I can and stay away any colored vinyl variations. Colored vinyl records are usually sold at retailers like Urban Outfitters, Wal-Mart, Target, and Barnes and Nobles as an exclusive to get customers into their stores or onto the website. Colored vinyl has a poor sound quality and does not last as long as black vinyl. Colored vinyl is manufactured below 150g. 150g-180g is the best weight and you tell a difference when you hold the vinyl record in your hand.

Mariah looks amazing in that dress. She has gained some weight again, but she looks healthy, she became a bit too thin during the Christmas shows I think. Now she looks healthy and happy and she moves more naturally and freely and is more relaxed, a joy to see her that well.

That dress is really everything. I don't know about the Met Gala because I feel the dress is a little too simple for that but for a tropical concert it was perfect. She gave Carmen Miranda vibes with the sandals too. Since she is coming to Brazil this year I hope she continues with this island/sunny looks. Also the hair and make up was very beautiful. I am super excited she is coming here guyyysss. It will be my first concert of hers.
