Anderson .Paak (107,900)

Do [you] guys really think that MC is dating Anderson .Paak? If so, good for her but I feel as though they are just working on music and have become good friends. Both are eccentric and musically inclined and I'm sure have other things in common. I'm curious to know how the rest of the lambily thinks and feels about it.

New music? (107,666)
by Brandon from USA
| |
|
|
In order to keep the momentum going every year for AIWFCIY, MC and her team will need to start thinking outside the box year after year. They need to employ new ways of marketing instead of MC just doing a string of shows each year (and MC recycling the same show every year, let's keep it real people). Everyone is jumping on the Christmas bandwagon right now and it won't be long before another Christmas song gains steam and AIWFCIY loses steam. Obviously no one stays on top forever, but I would like to see MC's team get creative.
On another note, I wonder how MC and Celine would sound on a Christmas song together? Thoughts?

Christmas tour 2024 (107,625)
by Brandon from USA
| |
|
|
Edward, I agree with you 100%. Unfortunately it's more of the same from what I've seen too. Constant staring at the monitors, moving extra stiff and rigid and an over reliance on lip syncing. I asked the question to see if anyone else noticed it like me. I know there are some fans that don't care and just want to see her but I'm not moved from what I see. Also I prefer the production and staging from last year to this years shows.

Christmas tour 2024 (107,623)
by Edward from USA
| |
|
|
I wasn't going to comment but since you asked, I expected Mariah to go all out with the production, especially with the Merry Christmas celebrating its 30th anniversary. Unfortunately, it feels like more of the same to me. Mariah isn't glancing at the monitors because she's forgotten any lyrics, she's watching for her lipping cues. She appears dazed, and her platform heels are so high she can barely take a step. For a festive show, the energy is severely lacking. I'm not impressed at all. On a positive note, she seems to have added a woman to her dance crew, finally.

Mimi L, you are 100% correct. Her comfortability on stage would increase if she practices more. I like [you] don't bury my head in the sand when it comes to MC. I appreciate the good that she does but her stage presence could use some work in my opinion. Ive been a fan from the beginning so I know what MC is capable of. Last I checked, the purpose of this site is for us to discuss all things MC, some things we love and some things we think could be better. Not sure what to tell those who can't take criticism. I just scroll past the posts that I'm not interested in instead of trying to tell them what to post.

I agree with this post. I only wish she'd just practice a bit more in rehearsals so that she isn't always looking at monitors or looking uncomfortable. Because she has the songs pre-recorded she should try and be more relaxed on stage. But maybe when we see on videos we over analyze because people who attended these shows say she had great stage presence and was engaging.

Opening act (107,398)
by Brandon from USA
| |
|
|
Although she has used opening acts before, she mostly does not currently and hasn't for a long time. I just think it would be more interesting if she had an opening act that got the party started. Janet just recently had Nelly and Ludacris open for her on tour. It does draw more people to the shows. I'd love to see her do a non-Christmas US arena tour with another well known artist opening for her. I'm a fan of going to shows with multiple artists. But that's just my thoughts. I have come across a couple social media reviews of her shows that complained that she had no opening act, left the stage frequently during the show, and that her show didn't last long.

Mary J. Blige just announced a new tour and Mario and Neyo are opening for her. That stage monitor (107,390)
by Brandon from USA
| |
|
|
She's the only person I see do that. We all know Bey, Celine, Britney, Janet all lip but they aren't stuck to the monitors like she is. They all mix lipping with live singing as well like she is currently doing but I don't see them constantly looking down at the screen. She didn't used to do that prior to the pandemic. Is she having trouble remembering the words or where the lipping track goes in and out? It's giving karaoke to me. I wonder if she watches her performances back for criticism and improvement or allows anyone to critique her.

I wonder how MC is holding up. I hope she has a good support system right now lifting her up. She's dealing with a lot. I wouldn't be mad if she cancelled shows lined up from now until the Christmas tour and used that time to focus on her mental health. That's more important than anything.

Mariah looks great (107,044)
by Brandon from USA
| |
|
|
She's definitely looking her best but everything else has gotten worse. Is it me or does it look painful in her face when she sings "Just call my name" in IBT? Did she recently have vocal surgery and she's trying to heal while lipping entire concerts? Did she have plastic surgery on her face that restricts her being able to show emotion and belt it out? Is she medicated which causes her to walk around like a zombie? I don't know but I'd rather her go away and come back when she's 100% physically and mentally and has that drive to conquer the world.

Mariah looks great (107,036)
by Randy from USA
| |
|
|
She looks sensational in those pictures with Olivia Rodriguez. I think still visuals is her new talent. Why worry with record labels, vocal training/rest and creating new music? You can stand still with a backdrop or stand still on stage and look pretty. People pay for that right? That's more important than being one of the greatest singers of all time. That would deflect attention from ability, right? To out-pretty Heidi Klum, Christie Brinkley, Tyra Banks, Cindy Crawford and Imán. Yea let's compete against them because it's easier than trying to sing anywhere near the level of Celine Dion, Toni Braxton, Chante Moore or Deborah Cox.

Celine, Mariah and lip synching (107,005)
by Brandon from USA
| |
|
|
I'm getting really frustrated with MC and these performances where she is giving nothing, no facial expression, no emotion, no movement, no live singing, just nothing. She does look good but there's more to performing than just hair and make up. If she's not fit to perform due to her physical or mental health or the voice is just not working, she should take some time away and get herself together like Celine did. Then she should come back when she is 100% ready. I admire Celine's discipline, dedication to her craft and passion for performing that MC clearly lacks. I want the best for MC but it's as if she doesn't care which is disheartening as a fan.

Celine, Mariah and lip synching (107,001)
by BFF from United States

I was looking at some videos from the last few nights in Vegas as well. Mariah's lip-syncing is pretty shameless in them. If she's going to do it, she definitely needs to practice making it look more convincing. Her lips are barely moving in some of the songs.
Is there any segment of this show in which she is singing live? What a sad spectacle.

I loved how her energy was here and how she had small choreographed parts with the dancers. You could tell she was having fun, trying new things performance wise and really feeling herself. It's Like That, WBT, Honey, Heartbreaker, Get Your Number, Shake It Off are some of MC's most well thought out videos. I totally disagree that Infinity (the song and video IMO) were well thought out. She was in Vegas so she shot a quick video. Infinity and I Don't belong in the same category if u ask me, forgettable.

Infinity video (106,884)
by Robert-Anthony from United States

You can't deny that the video for Infinity is one her most well thought out videos. Probably better than GTFO and With You. Those two videos received mediorce video treatments.
By the way, Tayla Parxx, Infinity co-writer, made me watch the video today because she is hotter than a firecracker at Normani for not giving her proper album credit for the song Insomina which she co-wrote with Normani, Victoria Monet, Brandy, and Stargate. However, Normani delivers Tayla another low blow by giving her songwriting credit in a interview this week and said that she hadn't seen Tayla in awhile.

MC clocked in (106,891)
by Brandon from USA
| |
|
|
This is the type of performance I like to see from MC. Her energy, excitement, engagement with the crowd was magnetic this night (and the entire SSFT imo). She was definitely clocked in and happy to be on stage enjoying what she was doing. She was ad libbing like crazy and the crowd ate it up. She actually took time to hype the crowd up and worked the stage. She didn't walk like her feet hurt because her heels were too high or stand in one spot like a statue. She didn't look lost on stage. She was fully alert and performed. I need this type of energy and confidence from MC in 2024. Is that too much to ask? Yes I'm happy she's still with us and out there but I need her to start clocking in on these performances.

May Céline inspire Mariah? (106,848)
by Brandon from USA
| |
|
|
I totally agree with Shezz when he says that Mariah is fine doing what she's doing. She's not interested in selling out stadiums anymore. She's happy with doing shows here and there throughout the year and then popping up at Christmas time to collect her coins. I don't get the hunger to master her craft like Celine has right now. Celine could have just lipped her way through entire shows like MC is doing right now but she is hungry to be the best and not ok with deceiving her audience. Celine also has always admitted that the older she gets, her voice has changed and she can't sing like she did when she was younger. MC would never admit the significant changes in her voice. It all comes down to confidence. Celine is confident and MC is not. Celine has done the work to become a dynamic performer and MC has regressed in her craft in my opinion. I'll always champion for MC but she has to get off autopilot and clock in.

May Céline inspire Mariah? (106,843)
by Shezz from Pk

|

I agree. Mariah and Celine are two very very different people. Mariah is way too guarded and very insecure to let go of her armour. Celine is a performer, that is her essence. Mariah is a creator. Yes it would make her more relatable perhaps to some but she will never open herself up to the ridicule and public shaming that will come with it. I think she deals with enough already. Celine is hungry to be the people's princess. Mariah is not. She is fine doing what she's doing. She doesn't want to sell out stadiums anymore like she did in the 90s. She's happy with theaters and the exponential success she gets during Christmas in between. As far as I know, Celine never said she turned to partial lipping to deal with her issues. She just said she could not sing as well. Those are two very different things. Randy, as beautiful as it may be, I think it's too late for Mariah to learn an instrument. It's clearly never been a priority for her. People still fill up her concerts, good for her and good for the people who enjoy it. I still have high hopes for MC16. I don't think she will suddenly change her style and start making Barbera [sic] Streisand like music. She will make the music that she enjoys. I hope it's something we will all love.

Tiny Desk (106,763)
by Brandon from USA
| |
|
|
Shezz, I totally agree with you. The confidence is just not there for her to do the Tiny Desk with no help. She has come to rely on backing tracks to hit those big notes because she doesn't trust her voice to do it anymore. Also, she knows she used studio tricks when recording many of these songs so it would be difficult for her to sing many of them all live anyway. If she got creative, reworked her songs, and adapted them to her current voice, she could do it. Unfortunately, she doesn't trust her voice to do what it needs to anymore which is why she always looks tense and stiff on stage these days.

Tiny Desk (106,756)
by Shezz from Pk
| |

I think that is C's well informed opinion based on the last few years' live performances.
She would have nothing here to fall back on, no backing tracks, no play backs and if the last couple of years have showed us anything it's that MC won't perform without them.
Although I 100 percent believe she is capable of giving us a great Tiny Desk performance similar to what she did with Jimmy Fallon for AIWFCIY and the piano impromptu performance. I don't think she's not in good voice, she has lost the confidence in herself and her voice even though she has shown us flashes of it from time to time. Maybe she feels she can't do it at a stretch. It's still a mystery what happens to her during live performances. Maybe it's the perfectionist in her that doesn't want her audience to hear anything off.
