Caution reflections (114,380)
by nancy from Switzerland

I don't like the video of GTFO either. Especially with that underwear and that alcohol drinking looks a bit cheap to me. I like the apartment because it gives me a 70's vibe. The [A no no] video in the subway is pretty colorful and completely something else she has done before. Also the kids are in the video. The [With you] video is very glamorous and classy with that furniture, seaview etc. I also like how she uses the hairbrush as a microphone. Very funny.

Caution reflections (114,372)
by nancy from Switzerland

GTFO and [With you] were a bit boring using it for a single in my opinion. She uses that strengthless and weak sounding whispery tone almost through the whole song. With her natural voice the songs would have been better maybe. Caution would have been a great song. It needs a stronger beat or more bass or whaterver. No No No [sic] was a good single. [Giving me life] would have been innovative with that guitar outro. (But MC and her management don't like to take risks at all. My fave is [8th grade]. The album is still good. She had self confidence and was in a better place at that time. Also the album cover was fresh and new. Runway which is in the Japanese edition would have been a great single. I like the beat and the voice there and the message. Somehow her staff can't take good decisions.

Article: Mariah's debut single became her first No. 1 hit 36 years ago (114,361)
by nancy from Switzerland
| |
|
|
I was 13 when that happened. I was in the shower. From the bathroom I heard this song. I immediately had to step out of the shower, ran to the tv with my towel on. Astonished I said to myself: Who is this woman?, What a voice, what song is this? Back then you didn't have the possibility to replay it again like today. I wrote down the name, went to the store immediately and bought her first album. Without even listening to it before. I somehow knew it was something special. And still is.

Comparing HFIA and Ariana's Petals (114,349)
by nancy from Switzerland
| |
|
|
Mariah's [Here for it all] album contain many genres. Gospel, Hip Hop, Neo Soul, Rnb and 60s vibe. She had 7 years to produce it but it's versatile. Ariana's voice in [Petals] album sounds good and clear but she doesn't (want to?) hit her higher notes anymore for some reason. The album sounds monotonous and minimalistic (if I compare it with her [Dangerous woman] etc).. At the age of 33 Mariah made her Charmbracelet album which is a very underrated. With lots of vocal harmonies, astronomical vocal acrobatics and different genres too. I think Ariana is not doing fine either.

Ariana Grande - Petal (114,344)
by nancy from Switzerland
| |
|
|
I've just listened to Ariana's Petal. It really doesn't sound like MC's Rainbow at all. It sounds more like an 80's popalbum to me. Ariana's voice seems very quite. Without astronomical vocal runs. Mariah's Rainbow is late 90's RnB. The whistle notes in Mariah's [Bliss] are amaaaazzing. Also the runs in [Can't take that away], the Spanish like [After tonight] and those interludes are out of this world. I really don't see any resemblance. But both artists are talented. I'm happy that they respect and admire each other.

Ariana Grande - Petal (114,339)

Ariana Grande's new album came out today. Has anybody listened to it yet? I absolutely love her last album [Eternal Sunshine], so I was curious about the new release. It was rumored that this album was going to be inspired by Mariah's Rainbow album and by 00's R&B. Honestly, it sounds nothing like that at all. I gave it a few listens, but probably won't again

Leaving the spotlight for a while (114,309)
by nancy from Switzerland
| |
|
|
Another thing that I forgot to say. What would it be like for MC leaving the spotlight completely for a while? I guess that maybe leads to taking more meds, more alcohol. The lack of workout leads to more stiffness and pain. Sleeping until the afternoon with no daily structure is not beneficial. I can't imagine that she is doing house hold either. Also this activity is done by a housekeeper. Inactivity is not a solution. People with chronic pain and depression need activity as a daily routine with pacing. I think there have to be space for everyone in this business also for the damaged ones. She has to do things for herself. Not for the media not even for the fans. For herself. Maybe singing spiritual gospel songs like she did with the Clark Sisters would be invigorating. She enjoyed it. She needs professional care and learn how to cope with the struggles that life gives. For me personally she is still not an old bag, who has been carried for years and now left somewhere in a corner. My humble opinion.

Leaving the spotlight for a while (114,306)
by nancy from Switzerland

Hmm if Mariah leaves the spotlight for a while completely, it is difficult to start again. How would that comeback be? She already made a long pause after [Caution]. Of course there have been some activities in between those albums with Ariana Grande, Muni Long, Christmas tours, Rarities, Master Class, Portrait remix etc. She had quite cut down already. I think she has to do [albums] without touring. I am not so fond of this Christmas tour either. But I understand that brings her still money and fans who still appreciate it. To promote the album she has to give not much but meaningful, intelligent interviews with good interviewers who understand and respect her. Not that gossip shows like Andy [Cohen] who waits for the next scandal to explode. In the studio the voice can be polished like many artists do too. Madonna for example sounds too young in her new album. Almost like Sabrina Carpenter. Her daughter Lola sounds more mature than Madonna. Hmm difficult to say. Whatever makes MC happy. It hurts me to see that someone like J.Lo still sings and Mariah doesn't anymore. I just can't think about it sorry.

Constructive criticism (114,289)
by nancy from Switzerland
| |
|
|
I guess Mariah needs to be applauded by her team. To show the world the contrary: Look, look there are people who think the performance was good. I guess she neglects things and doesn't want to see the reality. Also the statement from Busta Rhymes made at the VMA's afterparty was awkward. I really think she needs friends or a team that speaks the truth to her. She lives in her own world.

Soulless (114,285)
by Rashidi Rahim Rick from Malaysia

Someone from her team should step up and be brave and bold in shutting off the lyrics monitor whenever Mariah is performing. Instruct her to memorize the lyrics like back in the day. This should be the cure and remedy for all her blank stare (she even didn’t blink her eyes) like she's some sort of robot or something. Take a listen to that annoying “that’s so good” from her team when Mariah just finished performing Underneath The Stars from that latest video. All the yes men yes men from her team. No one is giving her constructive criticism.

Mariah's men (114,271)
by nancy from Switzerland
| |
|
|
Throughout the years Mariah has had many relationships. Tommy was older, somewhat a father role for her. But manipulative and controlling. Of course she did benefit from her carreer boost too. Louis Miguel had to cope with his own demons. Nick Cannon was a narcissistic immature jerk who has 12 children from different women. He took advantage of MC's career. MC was the one who got them the relevant jobs. Brian and Derek Jeter were ok. James Packer was too boring for her. At times I had the impression he did not feel comfortable around MC and her friends. Because they have more youthful vibe than him. Anderson .Paak (I am not sure if they are stil together ) gives me also this immature Nick vibe. I hope she finds stability. Maybe someone who is not in this business, who is more grounded.

Brian Tanaka (114,268)

Brian was a great guy. Made Mariah feel special. According to some news he wanted to have a family with own kids. That's the reason they allegedly split up. I honestly think the reason is completely another one: He saw his career stagnating next to Mariah's, and saw that she was on a downward spiral. He decided to save himself from this disaster. Today he has other projects. But still not married and no family. Sadly at some point everybody leaves her, when there is nothing left to make profit from.

Soulless / Underneath the Stars snippet (114,262)
by nancy from Switzerland
| |
|

I liked the snippet of [Underneath the stars]. She has a very good feeling for melodies, sounds etc. But the voice is very fatigued. Regarding the eyes, I guess she is reading the lyrics while singing. She looks more nervous, anxious, insecure, resigned. I still appreciate that she continues to do her thing. No matter what. People don't have to be discriminated about their diseases, mental issues etc. I guess we have to embrace her new personality with all her limitations. My humble opinion.

I ordered the 2 CD Version. I like the new cover better than the original one. The vinyl is a bit too expensive because of the content. The remixes have already been released in the past years. I am not the A Cappella type. Sadly the Underneath the Stars remix is not resung. But it's ok. The raw versions are interesting. All in all a bit too expensive. I am happy for the anniversary. But I prefer new material.

Interesting video (114,196)
by nancy from Switzerland
| |
|
|
Celine has made it very clear and has shown a very personal, unglamourous aspect of her life. And many people appreciate this a lot. MC wants to keep it private more or less. That's her choice. When she had her breakdown in 2001 the people criticized her even more. You always encounter people who understand and some who don't. The difference between Madonna and MC: Madonna has a very strong character. That allows her to cope better with difficult situations in life. In my eyes she is way more self confident (or at least in public). She is not afraid to work with much younger people and don't see them as a rival or as a threat. Madonna lost her mother at a young age. But she has siblings who were there for her. Mariah had a toxic family (mother, sister and brother). She never had stability. Tommy was a toxic person too. And Nick was also not mature enough mentally. The speculations are getting bigger. For now let's enjoy Daydream. I wish she finds peace. She does not deserve this.

Interesting video (114,195)
by jaker20 from US
| |
|
|
First of all, that is an AI generated video. They stretch a "Mariah has bipolar" into a 30 minute video because that is how they make money. If you hear that annoying narrator's voice, close the video, because you just wasted 30 minutes of your day over a bunch of redundant crap of everything bad about Mariah into 30 minutes.
But... the thought in it is true. There is definitely something wrong with her, and we already have been talking about that for years now. For me, it's almost like she has the same problem as Celine, but in a milder way. Her physicality has declined significantly, it's almost like she's a disabled senior citizen now. And she's literally masking that with all the makeup and beauty facade.
I also think her weight cycling, and likely ozempic and her bipolar meds is making her like that. A lot of these ozempic girlies are looking a bit like zombies.
It's amazing that Madonna is outlasting Mariah in almost every aspect: physicality, artistry, creativity, and just general well-being. I hope she figures it out for her own sake.
I want to add that having a deadbeat ex-husband didn't help. So she's raising the twins on her own. And she had to deal with her issues. The twins don't seem to be doing anything quite meaningful in their lives, and are not in school.
This is all going to come back to her when she is much older, and everything she ever worked for will be gone including her legacy because no one will take care of them and her later on.
And then she has a long list of employees and sycophants that also relies on her, not really about her own well-being.
I think losing Patricia was a huge blow for her mental health, in the last 10-15 years when Patricia's health started declining and Mariah has lost her anchor in life.

MC / WH addiction (114,168)
by nancy from Switzerland
| |
|
|
MC's brother Morgan once said she's on bipolar meds mixed with alcohol and could end up like Whitney. Also Eminem mentioned in a song she has an alcoholic mind. It could be that this has been said to ruin her reputation. (??) We all know that she loves her champagne splashes. But I really don't think that she is a heavily drug addict like WH. Maybe she smokes some weed. I hope her kids give her inner peace and strength.

Mariah vs Whitney (114,130)
by nancy from Switzerland
| |
|
|
I agree MC has more genres in her repertoire than WH. And writes her own songs. Also MC s vocal runs (especially in the beginning of her career) were out of this world. And in my opinion better than WH's. But both are incredibly talented. Whitney was better in acting. Although it was not very difficult part in Bodyguard. In the song when you believe it, Whitney's voice sounded much stronger than Mariah's in some parts. But MC had a difficult time after her divorce from Tommy. She still was at Sony's having to fullfil her contract before her departure to Virgin. Sometimes I had the impression that WH wanted to outdo MC for some reason in this song. Maybe there was a hidden rivalry coming from WH side. MC was always very humble and respectful towards her. MC had and still has respect for the singers that came before her. (Aretha, Patty, Diana Ross, etc.)

MC in the studio (114,080)
by nancy from Switzerland
| |
|
|
Mariah was more or less forced by Tommy and her label into pop music. Because they wanted the music to sound more white. She was always attached to Rnb. Doing the remixes she was a bit more free in her artistry. Eg. [Anytime you need a friend] remix, [Always be my baby] ( with Jdand Xscape ) etc. There she implemented gospel and soul and even dance. She wanted the songs to sound more Rnb. After her divorce from Tommy she could finally do what she really wanted. Butterfly was her Rnb influenced start. Many fans which liked pop and ballads better, were not so happy about it. She was pretty successful with Rnb too. In my humble opinion: I think she has to stick with what she likes. We have already more than enough pop singers in the business. What I like about Mariah is, that she doesn't hop on every trend and that makes her authentic. Many stars change genres to stay relevant. Eg Madonna, JLo etc.

MC in the studio (114,072)
by nancy from Switzerland

I think Mariah needs to have her vocal chords nodules removed at this point. She has been told once that if she decided to do it, there would be risks of losing her voice completely. Now we are on a level that maybe it cannot be solved without any intervention. The voice is so strained and weak. Almost not there anymore. Of course it is her decision what to do about it. There are many artist who have undergone vocal surgeries. Maybe it's the only hope she has.

I really feel MC has been working hard to make her voice stronger. She has not performed publicly since April 16th which is almost 75 days ago. Surely, she would not be spending so much time in the studio recording new music if she felt her voice was not stronger. I need MC to release a fire album next year.

I still have to watch the Michael movie in cinema too. Last time I went there, I choose Mando and Grogu. Lol. But I love Michael's music since I was a kid, he was the first artist I had a poster on my wall. But to be honest I'm not so interested in a bio-pic for Mariah. I fear it would be Glitter part two. I would prefer new music, a jazz album or the Rarities 2 for the next "project".

Taylor Swift (114,055)

I don't like Taylor Swift that much. But she is a good entertainer and has lots of mainstream hits. Here in Switzerland the youger people are obsessed with her. I think in Germany too. Sadly when I talk about Mariah, people act like: Does she still sing? Or they begin with the eyerolling. Usually they say that they don't like this (Divagehabe) difficult personality which is not reliable for normal people who are not in this business. That makes me sad. Because she did so many albums and many resung remixes. Rarely Mc comes to Switzerland because the people here listen more to pop and rock. That is why I go to Germany when she rarely gives a concert. But also in Germany I don't hear always positive opinions about MC unfortunately. I don't know what you people in Switzerland and Germany think about it.

It's a wrap (114,027)

Mc has always been into fashion. But she put music first. She also took care of her voice with tea and honey. And now she replaced tea with Champagne splashes. I remember the interviews of the Charmbracelet era. (Larry King etc. They were so spontaneous comparing to what I see today. Eg. The project. In 2014 she started rambling and being very awkward. Eg. The Breakfast Club.) She is in the I do not care club. The clothes now fit a lot better. She used to wear too tight clothes at times. Especially in the Rainbow, Glitter and Stella era. The face looks great thanks to her stylists. In a few photos the lips are too thick in my opinion.

It's a wrap (114,026)
by Lambi from USA

I feel like she was pretty much the same until around 2014. Post-divorce, the triple D's and clown contour got a little too desperate. I think Nick leaving broke her to the core.
Mariah has always been about looks, in my opinion. I mean, it's Hollywood, you kind of have to be. She was always fixing her hair, even in the 90s, always making sure you shot her from her good side. It's just that in the 2000s, Britney, Christina, Beyoncé, Aaliyah, and other up-and-coming pop girlies all had formidable sex appeal. There was just more competition, and Mariah made sure she was up to par.
She stuck it out naturally for as long as possible, facially at least. Her look that night on Idol when she bopped Nicki's head off with, "Not everybody has that," looked like she was straight out of the Honey remix video.
The Stella era is really when she started heavily experimenting with Botox, which she most likely despised because she ended up redeeming herself in 2018 with yet another beauty peak and I honestly think she looks good even today. She hasn't had the bee-sting lips or the MJ nose.
She thickens her lips via makeup and, in my assessment, did a non-invasive nose slimming procedure, where they inject filler to achieve the desired shape but it's very minimal. She sort of just harmonizes with her natural features, which I actually appreciate. It's just the boobs that are overdone.

The perfect role (114,006)
by nancy from Switzerland

I could see MC in little guest roles. Where she can play a hairdresser, a beautician, or an office worker where she can sit and stand still. But I don't see her in dynamic roles, where she has to walk and run. I also agree that she has to know the part by heart. And that could be difficult for her. Punctuality on the set is also crucial. No one wants to wait for a mediocre actress with difficult personality who has always demands and wants a high salary.

The perfect role (114,005)
by Lainsky from Philippines

If Mariah goes back into acting, a comedy or drama-dy is the genre that could fit her mediocre ability and personality. She's witty and funny. It might work. However, if she's really interested in acting, she can go to an acting workshop. I believe it would not be that hard. As a singer, she draws from her emotions; acting demands emotional depth to make performances believable and impactful for viewers.

It's a wrap / acting (113,995)

Acting is not her forte. Tommy Mottola forbid her to act. He certainly is not a good guy. But he knew which direction to go with Mariah and recognized what her strengths and her weaks are. It was not beneficial for MC's health and she did not feel free. But for her career it was an enormous advantage. But nowadays she is not even able to lipsync her songs correctly. Because she is so distracted. Tommy Mottola also did not want her to make huge concerts. Only a few performances and attend on shows like [Oprah] etc. The first big tour was Daydream era. When Tommy wasn't around then she started to tour heavily.

Voice (113,994)

I think too she has to stick to songwriting and singing in the studio. But the voice today which sounds weak, it is difficult to get promotional support from the music label. Even Madonna's or J .Lo's voice sounds healthier today. Although they are not known for their powerful voices. But they dance and have a huge stage presence.

The best songwriting is in the album [Butterfly]. Like other artists too then she started to mention brands like [Harry Winston] or Balenciaga etc. But in the latest album she has good lyrics too.Which are deep and personal songs. Everything fades away / actual voice (113,959)
by nancy from Switzerland
| |
|
|
My humble opinion. It is obvious that the Summerball was lipped. All Christmas concerts are lipped lately. Except a few snippets are live or prerecorded. There are many vocal coaches who analyse MC's voice of the 90s and also the actual voice. [They] explain the situation respectfully and realistically on YouTube. It does not mean that MC does not have a voice anymore. But it is obvious to see that the voice is not the same anymore. And it does not have to be either. Her vocal chords are strained. If you have injured your knee playing soccer for many years that can happen unfortunately. Mariah is experiencing the same somehow. We are not bashing her. I think she still can release albums in the future. And sing in her healthy and lower vocal range. Like in her last album [Here for it all]. And make the best with that what is still possible. In the studio she can make her pauses when she needs to. On a tour you have to function very well. And the mental pressure raises. With that pressure she gets anxious and insecure and looks stiff. Also it has a large impact on her stage presence because she has to control many things at the same time. I guess also Gamma does not support her well and let her down. In this business no one cares what you're going through. Unfortunately.
