No ballad as second single, please (109,428)
by Rashidi Rahim Rick from Malaysia
| |
|
|
If Gamma learns and study the history of Mariah's discography then they would know releasing a ballad as a second single did not turn out well, except for We Belong Together.
E=MC2: Bye Bye killed the momentum of a summer album. I would pick I'm That Chick because the song is so summery, disco-ish and fun.
Memoirs: I Want To Know What Love Is killed the vibe of Obsessed girl power shade. I would pick Up Out My Face as the follow up single as a sequel to Obsessed.
Me I Am Mariah: Who approved You're Mine as second single after Beautiful? It should have been You Don't Know What To Do or Thirsty. Either songs could build the momentum after long hiatus between Beautiful and the album.
Caution: Releasing With You after GTFO is inconsistent. A No No is much better as it fit the theme of GTFO and the song is so upbeat and fun. It would welcomes younger fans too.
So please Gamma.

The lyrics video (109,309)

In the teaser that Mariah posted on her Instagram we can see that Mariah mouthing the lyrics. But in the actual lyrics video Mariah did not mouthing the lyrics and she just basically posing and give beauty shots. Would this mean there will be another second version of lyrics video?

Promo and MV (109,181)
by Rashidi Rahim Rick from Malaysia

Infinity peaked at No. 82 and I Don't peaked at No. 89 respectively at the Billboard Hot 100. After 2017, Mariah did not chart on the Hot 100 except for that All I Want For Christmas. So let's hope Type Dangerous could chart higher than those two songs, at least top 15 like #Beautiful.

Promo and MV (109,172)
by Shezz from Pk

I hope she's performing TD at BET and no Mimi medley though I would not mind an It's Like That to TD transition like the MC16 teaser clip.
As for the different guys in the song - either they should all be fictional or all past relationships. Would be weird for her to talk about someone from her old music video (motor cycle guy) but then computer boy toy also sounds like the TMB guy. Some say that's Nick though the forever guy sounds more like him or that could be Tanaka as well.
I also thought Tommy references now are a bit old and tired but maybe she did it because it made the verse more interesting and dramatic.
I wonder what her insta pic with the guys is about... bet maybe?
I think her MV video will definitely have a bunch of these guys in the video. She hinted at that in one of her interviews. They asked her about the guys and she said "you'll have to watch the video".
I wonder if they have a remix lined up already or are they waiting to see how it performs.
I'd be over the moon if the song just charts. What was her last single to chart? I don't think any of the Caution singles charted. Nor did I Don't and Infinity.
Was #Beauituful her last new song to chart? None of the remixes charted. She does not have the fan base for her songs to have a decent debut, at best it could work its way into top 40. Which would be big for her. TD is good but it's no Believe. Her best shot at the charts is a pop song with mass appeal.

Type: Dangerous (109,094)
by Rashidi Rahim Rick from Malaysia

Where's the chorus? After the verse she just mumbles some words like "that's my type", "danger", "dangerous". I like the verse because it reminds me of Will Smith from Fresh Prince of Bel Air. But on a serious note, the song does not have a chorus.

MC16 - new era, final era (108,998)
by Rashidi Rahim Rick from Malaysia

I want to enjoy this new era beginning June 6th because I know this would be a final era from her. I hope her team would make it right this time, the final time. We don't know when we're gonna get a new era after this. I hope MC16 would bring commercial success, 20th No 1 perhaps. All the best Mariah, we enjoyed you. 2025 would be your year, the new era and chapter closing.

Mariah is already a multi millionaires darling. She does't need to do voice trainig. This is not the 90's anymore. She can rely on pre-recorded track in which it's still her voice unlike other singer who used other singer's voice. All that matters is that she needs to look gorgeous on stage with the gowns, hair and make up.

Sounds like you're giving excuses for her. "She's not really a regular singer." Well then she needs to be a regular singer, if regular means being disciplined, getting training all over again, getting a voice coach that understands her situation (and preferably also a voice therapist in tow) and knows exactly what to do and how to go about it, having some form of a routine mapped out for her and seeing where it goes, because having this attitude and being a half assed singer without knowing the tricks of the trade is what put her in this problem to begin with. It is quite sad to see how much singing ability she has lost, literally everything. And then she keeps touring (with which voice exactly?). D'you know how grueling touring is on a normal voice that doesn't have nodules, talk less of one like hers that does - the reason why every time she toured it affected her voice negatively. For someone who's shows are all about the voice, she sure shouldn't be giving any performances on any stage whatsoever with how shot her voice is currently (call it as it is, we can all hear it). Standing there giving absolutely nothing on stage and thinking the audience would not notice? I am a true fan/Lamb or whatever you wanna call it, and Mariah has been getting on my nerves lately, I scroll right past any posts about her concerts, because I already know what to expect. How much more those who paid money to see her in person. She will soon be booed off that stage, then maybe finally jolt back to reality and seek professional help.

Looking at all the pictures of Mariah performing in Shanghai, all I can say is that her stylist has step up the game and able to pick dresses that carry the classy image. Even her ponytail makes her look neat, clean and current. Big hair is so yesterday. Great gowns beautiful gowns. That's all.

Slow moving (108,745)
by Rashidi Rahim Rick from Malaysia

Yes I agree. I've been thinking about it ever since. She refused to move and always looking confused because she's so busy looking at the monitor to decipher the color coding of the words which one is live and which one is pre-recorded. Plus, she's always wearing heels that are too high and too small for her shoe size. That's all. Off stage she is normal as usual. We can see that from all her instagram story. So nothing to worry.

I believe that the reason why she's not moving as much as she was 2 years ago is because she's being cautious to avoid making mistakes in her lip sync. This is a new era where the concerts are 90% lipped, so as much as she wants to be carefree, she can't because she might miss her cues.

Born this Mimi (108,708)
by Rashidi Rahim Rick from Malaysia
| |
|
|
I agree. The Art Of Letting Go is definitely the best title to define her personal life at that time. I believe if she sticks to that "letting go" theme for the album, then the album would have had more success. She should just release the album in 2013 right after she was done with American Idol finale with Beautiful as the first single, followed by You Don't Know What To Do for the summer hit single, then The Art Of Letting Go at the end of 2013, You're Mine for the Valentine single in 2014, then double singles released for Make It Look Good and Mesmerized, and ending the era of the album with classic cover Lullaby Of Birdland. Those 7 songs are enough to make that album a hit and put Mariah on the map for another successful comeback in 2010's era.

Mimi calendar (108,699)
by Mimi L. from Empower Your Highlighter

Has anyone seen the new video upload for the new DFAU remix? The visuals are of the 2025 calendar highlight certain important dates like Fourth of July, Christmas etc, it also has dates like Mariah's, the twins and Kaytranada's birthdays, it also has dates of milestone moments from Mimi but what interests me most is it has dates highlighted that we don't know what's happening. Like May 30th is in gold so we know that's the release of TEOM reissue but then June 6th has a caution/exclamation sign wonder what that is. It also has one where there are high heels not sure what that represents. The calendar also shows she's booked and busy hahah but surprisingly nothing about her holiday shows. Anyone has any guesses what the unknown highlighted dates mean?

The Emancipation of "Who?"
Are we ever going to sit down and talk about how Mariah just woke up one day, said "Call me Mimi", and the entire world ate that shit up? Child please, who exactly was calling you that before 2005? That nickname was never uttered by any of her close friends during any of her most memorable eras. But suddenly it's "The Emancipation of Mimi" and we all ate it up like it was a fresh batch of hot tamales. Maybe is right there on her birth certificate: Mimi Carey, possibly born in 1970.
Iconic? Absolutely, but Mimi please.

Emancipation & Daydream (108,423)

Daydream 1995 and The Emancipation 2005 were two big eras for Mariah. Too bad that she can't have another big eras in 2015 and 2025, or else the number 5 in a calendar year would be a good luck charm for her. As for my pick; I choose Forever (Daydream) and I Wish You Knew (The Emancipation).

It only happens to singers (108,400)
by Rashidi Rahim Rick from Malaysia
| |
|
|
People expect singers to still perform like in their peak era. But at the same time we have different expectations when it comes to other fields like sports, do we expect Michael Jordan to still hit the game in his 50's? Do we expect Mike Tyson to box like in his peak? He even lost the game recently. We appreciate them for what they had contributed. Mariah had played the game and she won. Now she is a legend. We appreciate her legacy. Of course we all know that she can't sing like her peak era. So what? She's a human being. Some singers have it until they died, some just don't. Nevertheless we still value her as one of the pioneers in singing and for her legacy. Just like we appreciate the legacy of Michael Jordan, Mike Tyson, or other legends in other fields.

Precious (108,326)
by Rashidi Rahim Rick from Malaysia

While we are in the topic of Mariah's movies, I remember Mariah wrote in her book that she wanted Terrence Howard to play the male lead for Glitter (at that time it was called All That Glitters). If only those powers that be listened to her, then maybe the fate of the movie would turn out different and they would just release the Loverboy (Firecracker version) because the chorus is so much fun, catchy and boppy. Plus if the movie did well and the first single did well too, then there would be no breakdown episode of Mariah and subsequently there would be no mockery of Mariah in all the medias at that time.

Whitney Houston and Kevin Costner had *zero* chemistry in "The Bodyguard", and the songs she recorded were all written by other people except for "Queen of the Night".
"Glitter" is a superior project in every respect. Mariah's approach to acting was more endearing and humble than Whitney's. The chemistry with Max Beesley, though he wasn't the first choice for the role, was better. Mariah poured her heart and soul into the songs she wrote for the soundtrack. The only reason why people retrospectively think of "The Bodyguard" as better is because the soundtrack and film were very commercially successful. The film itself received poor reviews and is just incredibly dull in comparison to "Glitter", which took more risks.
I'm willing to fight the battle for "Glitter" because the way people rejected it, for me, symbolizes the way that people rejected Mariah in the 1990s.

Missing studio pics solved (107,992)
by Rashidi Rahim Rick from Malaysia
| |
|
|
The album concept that was stolen was for the "The Demo" album. Look it up on Google. The album cover would be a polaroid photo of early Mariah in the 80's. Curly hair. The writing on the album cover and back would just using black pen. All the songs would be Mariah's songs from the demo. Mariah claimed that one singer stole the visual concept using polaroid photos and using the 80's year on the album title too and that album was released at the end of 2014. Not Beyonce. So Mariah scrapped the demo album and decided to release No 1's to Infinity in early 2015.

Missing studio pics solved (107,991)
by Baby from Dreamville...Where There's No Beginning & There is No End
| |
|
|
Yeah, Carlos. I remember Mariah first talking about a contemporary artist stealing her album concept down to the visuals in this L.A. Times article from 2015.
That puts the time where the actual interview was conducted several weeks or even a couple of months before being published on May 4th 2015 (around March). Mariah also dated the Thieving event in question, 2 months prior to the sit-down just like you said, Carlos. That tracks perfectly with Beyoncé album released on December 13th 2014.
Mariah was still signed to Island Def Jam in 2015 and a certain Mr Carter was the president of the label until just 2009. He would have still maintained professional as well as personal relationship with many of the people with access to Mariah (and Mariah herself) in the company much like Tommy had connections to Columbia Pictures through his Sony presidency, during the production of "Glitter".
There were also so many incessant red herrings in every media, blogs and forums about Mariah releasing a surprise album a lá Beyoncé, all through out 2015 - before she even mentioned her album sabotage. Damage control and preemptive deflection from the other artist's camp most probably. A certain subsection with online presence were hating on Mariah, hard, all up in the comment sections, calling her jealous of Beyoncé and all manner of attributes more fitting their own queen. These real world scenarios only make sense in this context.
This is why we we are sometimes robbed of nice things. It's why I don't mind when Mariah clams up, plays up her diva act or is vague. Her creativity always gets taken advantage of by collaborators, industry rivals and even friends. I guess it's a compliment that so many see her as the one to beat even now when they try and relegate her to being nothing but a Christmas legacy act. My 2025¢.

Mariah's AMA performances (107,460)
by Rashidi Rahim Rick from Malaysia
| |
|
|
This is for fun. My review on all of her AMA performances. 1. Someday (AMA 1991) - Very simple performance of her, no dancers, no props on stage, just her showing off her vocals and whistle in the end. 2. Fantasy (AMA 1996) - The stage was full of dancers and sometimes Mariah was a bit confused where to go. The vocals were very good and she sounded girly during this era. 3. My All (AMA 1998) - This performance was aired via satellite that was taken from her Butterfly World Tour in Tokyo Dome. She sounded raspy but she nailed every notes. I love the hair. I remember watching this on tv and shocked to hear how her voice changed. 4. Thank God I Found You/Make It Last Remix) (AMA 2000) - She sounded out of breath throughout the performance but she makes it up at the end with singing acapella "thank you lord". 5. Through The Rain (AMA 2003) - The choir really boost the performance. I love the backdrop video that played at the back of Mariah when she performed this. Very inspiring. 6. Don't Forget About Us (AMA 2005) - I like the intro beat of the song. Such a dramatic performance after the bridge with all of her hand movements. She sounded ok though. 7. I Stay In Love (AMA 2008) - This is the beginning of the era where she stiffs and looks uncomfortable performing. This was at the time she was pregnant and miscarriaged. 8. With You (AMA 2018) - I really like the visuals. Mariah performing in that pink dress and the dress looked like a big pink flower and the male dancers are under it. 9. We Belong Together (AMA 2024) - She looked so beautiful. Nice gown. Beautiful gown. Nice hair. The vocals were ok. I love it.
I wish AMA would compile all of Mariah's performances and put in on YouTube.

Now that we have all the songs from those two best seller albums, I can't help but think that if Mariah or the record company decided to just include all the tracks maybe the albums would be more successfull that what they already are. 14 tracks in one album is such a solid album. The full tracklisting:
Music Box 1. Dreamlover 2. Hero 3. Anytime You Need A Friend 4. Now That I Know 5. All I Live For 6. Music Box 7. Without You 8. Workin' Hard 9. I've Been Thinking About You 10. Never Forget You 11. Just To Hold You Once Again 12. My Prayer 13. All I've Ever Wanted 14. Everything Fades Away
Daydream 1. Fantasy 2. Underneath The Stars 3. One Sweet Day 4. Open Arms 5. Always Be My Baby 6. Slipping Away 7. I Am Free 8. One Night 9. When I Saw You 10. Melt Away 11. Long Ago 12. Forever 13. Daydream (interlude) 14. Looking In

Similarity between Big Energy Remix and yes, and? (105,685)
by Rashidi Rahim Rick from Malaysia
| |
|
|
Both songs have snippet promo video but not actual video. Such a waste. In Big Energy Remix, we can see Mariah and Latto in a short promo video wearing pink dresses. Why can't they took that opportunity to just film a video. Nowadays, visual is very important. Now the history repeat itself. Mariah and Ariana were both on set together for promo video of yes, and? wearing black dresses in some hotel but didn't shoot a video. Just a snippet of them hanging around, laughing, lipsynching to the audio of that song. Total waste. We could at least deserve a cheap low budget video of Mariah and Latto in that pink dresses, and Mariah and Ariana in that black dresses. At least.
