Glitter 25th anniversary (113,665)
by Rashidi Rahim Rick from Malaysia
| |
|
|
Rerelease the album with bonus tracks: 1. Loverboy (Firecracker Original Version) 2. Out Here On My Own 3. Lilies Blues (Mariah was the one singing the child part so I'm sure she sang the whole song too) If her vocals are in good form, then do a live studio performance of Lead The Way or even Glitter Unplugged. We never got to see her perform full version of Never Too Far, Reflections, Didn't Mean To Turn You On and All My Life. So this is the perfect time to do it.

Article: Mariah Carey wants $27M for her NYC penthouse triplex (113,595)
by Rashidi Rahim Rick from Malaysia
| |
|
|
What projects that Mariah has in 2026? She's not scheduling for any residencies or tour. That's where the quick cash comes from. No new album, no acting offers, no product endorsement. Nada. The property is in debt for 18 million and she wanted to sell for 27 million, after all the settlement and deduction like taxes, agents, she would get only a couple of million only.

Article: Mariah Carey wants $27M for her NYC penthouse triplex (113,589)
by Edward from USA

It seems to me that Mariah has been burning through a ton of money just to keep her brand and lifestyle going. People see her massive net worth and assume she's sitting on a mountain of cash, but the reality is her burn rate has always been huge.
If it really costs around $150k-$200k just for her to step out with full glam, security, and staff, imagine what her monthly expenses look like. Between the HOA fees and property taxes at 90 Franklin, she's spending close to $40k a month on just that one place. And that's not even counting the fact that she likely keeps her core team, backup singers, assistants, etc., on retainer so they're always available. That kind of loyalty and availability isn't cheap.
Even her big income streams don't stretch as far as people might think. Her catalog reportedly brings in around $20-$30 million a year, but once you factor in taxes (around 50%) and then another cut for management, legal fees, and business expenses, she's probably left with around $10 million or so in actual spendable cash. And when your lifestyle easily costs a million dollars or more per month, that money disappears quickly. It's basically a luxury version of living paycheck to paycheck, which also explains why she keeps touring and working when, in theory, she should be able to slow down and just enjoy the fruits of her success.
The debt is also a big factor. She's taken out loans against the penthouse, something like $18.6M based on public records, which means she doesn't actually have all that equity. If she sells for around $27M, by the time the loans and broker fees are paid off, she may only walk away with a few million in actual cash.
I don't think she's selling just for fun. She clearly loved that place and made it her own. It seems more like a smart move to downsize and restructure her finances. The math on that lifestyle just doesn't work the same way it used to.

A full-throated defense of Glitter (113,554)
by Rashidi Rahim Rick from Malaysia

Too bad after Glitter she did not received any big budget movie offers. She would be good in rom com or action comedy. These are my rom com or action comedy that Mariah would be good at playing the lead character:
1. Miss Congeniality (2000) - She would be perfect playing a nerd FBI agent who turned into a beauty queen.
2. The Scorpion King (2002) - Mariah can play the sorceress Casandra (Kelly Hu). The Rock and Mariah in one action comedy movie together? Box office hit.
3. Fun With Dick and Jane (2005) - She would be perfect playing Jane. Oh come on, having Carrey and Carey as the perfect duo would make the movie a blockbuster.
4. Obsessed (2009) - Mariah can play the bitchy psycho Lisa (Ali Larter). Mariah and Beyonce as the leading women would make the movie a box office guarantee. Everyone wanted to see their epic fighting scene at the end. Her single Obsessed would become No 1 due to the success of this movie too.
5. Confessions of A Shopaholic (2009) - Mariah is good in playing herself as the lead character who is obsessed with shopping. Her fans and media would love this.

A full-throated defense of Glitter (113,550)
by Lambi from USA

Here are her words verbatim from this interview, I extracted it so you don't have to:
I was so obsessed with my career ever since I can remember. I remember in seventh grade we each had to speak about what we wanted to be. I was a hideous mess then. I had shaved my eyebrows by accident, I had orange hair, I had three shirts that I rotated; it wasn't a pretty sight and it wasn't fun. But when they asked me, "What do you want to be?" I said, "I want to be a singer and an actress."
We actually can just confirm it based on her actions. She did in fact pursue both singing and acting.

Glitter - my wish for MC in 2026 (113,516)
by Rashidi Rahim Rick from Malaysia

Yes Belinda. I agree. The movie would be better if it was made for tv, either on MTV, HBO, or even BET. Even other divas movie like Cinderella (Whitney & Brandy) and Double Platinum (Diana & Brandy) were made for tv movie and it were huge among fans and non fans. Tv movie was a real thing back then.

I always said that Glitter would have worked absolutely fine as a BET Original Film or an MTV Original Presentation, as a "Made For TV" movie. I am almost certain if it was marketed that way instead of in theaters, it would've received mixed to positive reviews, rather than negative. Anybody else agree?

Butterfly live In Hawaii 1998 (113,491)
by Rashidi Rahim Rick from Malaysia
| |
|
|
Now that we have seen almost half of the video performances on YouTube, the latest one is Make It Happen, maybe Sony or whoever owns it, can release it officially online and add some bonus tracks or bonus videos (Mariah always say that Close My Eyes is her favorite so why not shoot a video for it, just make a beauty shot video like what she really likes with no plot or storyline, it's ok as long as there is a video). Video performances of Butterfly live at Perth also available on YouTube (Emotions, My All, Whenever You Call) and she look so beautiful with that middle parted, long straight hair.

Lame photos? (113,489)
by Rashidi Rahim Rick from Malaysia
| |
|
|
Because she's into beauty shot photos, beauty shot videos, and not art photos nor art videos. Even all her photos on her social media are her face photos "look at me, I'm beautiful" beauty shot beauty shot. Remember that It's Like That cover single, yes that's different and it fits the theme of the song which is party record and no face of her is needed, just graphic design.

Lame photos? (113,485)
by Matty from Vancouver Canada
| |
|
|
I've got to ask: why does MC choose lame photos for some of her singles cover art like she did for Nothing is Impossible? She's got better, more electric photos on her social media. She's done it with Shake it Off, It's Like That was unreal and unexpected, With You was so unique and gave Someday vibes. But then we have Its a Wrap, CryBaby, and I Don't as examples of lame. Literally just smash one of her recent insta photos on the single art work and run with it, she's gorgeous and everyone knows how funny she can be. Use that sparkle and glitter girl, not lame emotionless head shots that tell me nothing about the song.

Always Be My Baby 30th anniversary (113,304)
by Rashidi Rahim Rick from Malaysia
| |
|
|
This song was huge back then even if there's no tv promo this song still managed to get to No 1 on Hot 100 for two weeks. It's a wasted opportunity not to have Mariah perform this song at MTV Video Music Awards in 1996 when she's clearly there presenting award. She even made appearance at Rosie Show and Billboard Awards in late 1996 without performing any of the songs from the big selling album Daydream.

Nodules (113,235)
by Rashidi Rahim Rick from Malaysia
| |

If she stops drinking or smoking whatever purple taking her higher, she will gain back her voice. Remember when she was pregnant in 2010 and she performed One Child in Washington? Her tone of her voice for the first verse specifically the part "blessed baby boy" that was pure Music Box tone but the mature version.

Nodules (113,234)
by Terna from Nigeria
| |
|

With Whitney Houston, she also was a heavy smoker for years, that's what really did her voice in, also Dionne Warwick too smoked and Aretha Franklin and they both suffered extensively as singers from those wayward years. Aretha was able to kick the habit and came back strong with "A Rose is Still a Rose" but I don't think Dionne was able to. With Mariah Carey, it's a myriad of factors the biggest being the nodules - she already has a medical condition with the nodules, then couple that with the bad habits, vices and non discipline and you have this that we have today. It's quite unfortunate, her voice is totally shot and that's even putting it nicely. Nothing about it sounds pleasant nor fluid anymore. The new album while a solid body of work, unfortunately is marred by the vocal performances or lack thereof - hardly listenable. I only play two songs "Mi" and "Confetti and Bubbly".

Divas Live 1996 (112,898)
by Rashidi Rahim Rick from Malaysia
| |
|
|
What if VH1 conceived their idea of doing a fund raising concert gathering top female singers/divas two years ealier than the 1998, maybe around November/December 1996. The line up and set list are based on the divas latest project or hit song at that time.
Solo performance: 1. Toni Braxton - Breathe Again, Unbreak My Heart 2. Celine Dion - Because You Loved Me, It's All Coming Back To Me 3. Mariah Carey - Always Be My Baby, Anytime You Need A Friend (perfect song for fund raising event) 4. Whitney Houston - Exhale, I Believe In You And Me 5. Madonna - Take A Bow, You Must Love Me
Group performance: 1. One Sweet Day (Mariah & Boyz II Men) this song was huge at this time so VH1 needed this to pull ratings 2. Don't Cry For Me Argentina (Madonna & Celine) Madonna was busy promoting this movie/soundtrack this time 3. You Were Loved (Whitney & Toni) they can bring Babyface too because he produced it and Whitney was busy promoting The Preacher's Wife movie and soundtrack
Finale: Them 5 divas can end the show with whatever gospel song Whitney had from the soundtrack or end it with I'm Every Woman. Mariah must hit couple of whistle notes, as that a requirement by VH1. Just for laughs. Just imagine the vocal galore and vocal climax from Whitney, Mariah, Celine and Toni. Madonna needs to be included for ratings because she had major project at that time and very popular too at that time. Janet should be there too but she was not in any due for album or any project in 1996.

Was Celine the original JLo? (112,847)
by Rashidi Rahim Rick from Malaysia
| |
|
|
If Sony and Mariah didn't have friction, then Sony must have proposed for My All to be the theme song. Even the video having Mariah lying down in an upside down wooden boat in the middle of the ocean (studio set of course). The lyrics even said "and I won't pull through without you by my side" that is 100% interpretation of what Rose said "I won't let go" to Jack in the climax scene of them lying on the wreckage.

Titanic-themed doesn't mean a shot-for-shot remake. The overturned boat in the middle of the vast ocean, that she's singing on, is the clearest Titanic reference, it's the aftermath of the sinking. Funny you said all that but completely missed the most obvious visual cue.

Mariah singing at the Oscar (112,789)

Don't you guys have a dream to see Mariah singing tribute at the Oscar? Just like Lady Gaga singing songs from The Sound Of Music. (Rare unseen) Butterfly (Live in Honolulu, Butterfly tour) (112,733)
by Rashidi Rahim Rick from Malaysia
| |
|
|
Beginning October 1997 until January 1998, the number one song was Elton John's Candle In The Wind. The song was a tribute to Lady Diana's passing. That song was everywhere. So I had a feeling that maybe Sony didn't release Butterfly as a single because they knew Butterfly would only reach No 2 and imagine what the media headlines would be, and somehow this eventually would damage the reputation of the album.

If "Butterfly" had been commercially released back then, do you think it would have been a No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100? Although I have loved "Lead The Way" more than this song lately, it has been my top favorite ballad by Mariah. I didn't know they changed the rule at that time, and I was expecting that after "Honey", she would score another No. 1 with "Butterfly". And then, I was also expecting "Breakdown" only to find out they were released for airplay only. I remember I was so sad and only recovered when "My All" hit the top spot. Just reminiscing, and a thought triggered by this post.

Come on Mariah and Gamma, take advantage of that and release Nothing Is Impossible. That song is perfect for that. Relase a high budget music video. The solo version which can be found in deluxe version of the album should be pushed as the second single with official video. The solo version has Mariah singing the first verse and second verse. But still the solo version lacked a bridge. The remix should be the one with those two girls that I don't bother remembering their names.

The hit that should have been. It just needed at least one more Mariah verse. I think the song was just past its time in terms of release, production and Mariah's age. It sounds like something from E=MC˛. It's basically TMB's sister and I still love it.

Someone's Ugly Daughter by Bianca (112,662)
by Rashidi Rahim Rick from Malaysia
| |
|
|
I want that album to be released by the alter ego, Bianca, not Mariah. Mariah has to portray as the brunette Bianca throughout the whole promotional interviews, events and performances. This would definitely create major noises everywhere especially in TikTok. The first single has to be Demented as Mariah wrote in her memoirs that is very personal to her and she named her own record company Crave Records in 1996 inspired from that song. Bianca needs to step up and do justice in performing that song. Who knew maybe Demented is the 20th No 1 single that we've been craving for.

Release and promote Sugar Sweet album version (solo) (110,820)
by Rashidi Rahim Rick from Malaysia
| |
|
|
From the album tracklist I'm sure the song is Mariah's solo version. So now that we have about less than 1 month from the album release, might be good idea to release the album version with a proper video on the beach with her and her male dancers (shirtless) doing choreographer. We all know Mariah doesn't want anymore female dancers. For that VMA performance, Mariah should be doing medley of Type Dangerous/Sugar Sweet/Here For It All. Imagine the climax ending of the performance where Mariah belt the "here for it all" and the music stop to make it like acapella. We don't need her hits medley because it won't sound good. Refer her medley at Billboard Awards 2019. That medley performance should be deleted. She was shaky and crack and nervous. Come on Mariah and Gamma. Do it right this time. This would be her last album and her next album would definitely be in 2035. Most of all here won't be here for it all anymore.

I would be a completely different person (110,508)
by Rashidi Rahim Rick from Malaysia

I still remember whether in 1995 or 1996 during an international interview, Mariah said that if she didn't have the voice she would be a completely different person. So I guess the Mariah now that we have is the different Mariah from what she used to be. Having the voice back then helped her in building her confidence and her issues with insecurities. Now that she lost it, don't deny it guys, she is what she is now. She tried to sing Sugar Sweet acapella recently during one of that UK radio interviews and half way she realised that the voice didn't come out.

Random thoughts about aging and beauty (110,336)

Mariah only looks small and slim in social media. Go look at Jimmy Kimmel interview last week. That's how she really looks like without filter and editor. In my opinion she looks good with all that weight and chubbiness. I dont't know why she doesn't want to embrace that.

Random thoughts about aging and beauty (110,332)
by Lambi from USA
| |
|
|
In the land of Kardashians and waist trainers, of course she's had some work done on her body. Her hips look like they were enhanced as well, but it's Hollywood, and this is the norm. I would say Mariah never really overdid anything, except for the boobs. She knew Nick loved them, so she consistently made them bigger and flaunted them for revenge. Stella famously said, "She just got her boobs done," but she didn't blow up her lips like Christina or Carrie Underwood, and she didn't do anything extreme like a Michael Jackson nose job. She always kind of harmonized with her natural beauty. At most, she may have had a non-invasive injection on the sides of her button nose to make it more subtle. She also has perfectly crafted veneers and a tiny bit of Botox here and there, but she still very much has a face that's hers.
I can't remember where I saw it, but it was revealed that Mariah follows an all-blue food diet to preserve her youth. Her beautician said she has an extensive beauty regimen that involves getting three facials every week. With her money, she has access to top-tier beauty products. She really takes beauty seriously. I remember that right after she gave birth, she said, "We gotta stay pretty," while getting ready to take pictures with her newborns. She has always been invested in beauty, and she reaps what she sows. Mariah deserves all the amazing results because she has always put in the effort.

Do you think her expressionless blank stares in this video and many others are the result of too much botox and filler? [It's] happened so much that I think the weight of these enhancements are affecting her ability to emote. I guess for her she'd rather look 35 forever while unable to look enthused or expressive.
