It may have been over a month ago, but I think we're all still recovering from Mariah's New Years Eve fiasco. But good for her that she's decided to trudge on and keep making moves. One of those moves is her new video for "I Don't" featuring YG, which has me doubting her comeback. As soon as it started, I could tell that this video was about "Miss Carey" reliving her glory days.
For starters, the wedding dress that keeps popping up is incredibly reminiscent of her "We Belong Together" video. Fun fact about that dress: at the end of the video she decides to burn it in a fire pit - well that was a real 250k Valentino dress from her broken engagement last year. Give it to charity or something, damn! On top of that, there's something about the posing on a Rolls-Royce outside of a mansion that is really bringing me back to early 2000's R&B videos and not in a great way. Also when YG is sitting down drinking, it looks way to much like Drake's Take Care album cover.
The song is pretty bland and forgettable, but the fact that the music video is so outdated has me hesitant to say Mariah's back. If she came out the gate with some interesting video or song that took her in a new direction, I'd be onboard. But at this point, it's a little too late to revert back to same old Mimi.
