Mariah Carey joined This Morning presenter Alison Hammond on the show today and left her interviewer red-faced when she asked if she was being "mocked". Whilst the showbiz reporter tried to offer some festive cheer, it seemed the American wasn't very happy with her efforts. With some clarification however, it seemed the moment was taken in jest.
Alison, 44, interviewed Mariah, 49, with their meeting pre-recorded and shown on today's edition of This Morning, hosted by Holly Willoughby, 38, and Phillip Schofield, 57. However at one moment, the air seemed to turn a little frosty as when the ITV show presenter sang to her guest, the Christmas pop icon asked if her interviewer was "mocking" her, but it was all light-hearted.
The pair had been speaking about the festive season, with the American even asking Alison to join in with her celebrations over seas. Towards the end of the chat, the presenter asked if she could sing a song she had written for the All I Want For Christmas lyricist.
Mariah joked she would be "happy" for the showbiz reporter to "keep it to herself", but the song was sung regardless. "I'm going to go for it anyway because it's not finished," the This Morning star remarked, before going on to sing the word "Merry Christmas" four time a little out of tune, leaving her guest stunned.
"Are you mocking me?" Mariah asked, to which Alison quickly clarified she wasn't picking fun at the Christmas pop icon. As the moment became more light-hearted, the American quipped: "Are you mocking me Alison after I made you this card?"
Although stunned, the two women got on really well and the interview concluded with the singer supposedly writing down her contact details for the presenter to join her at Christmas, yet another joke between the two.
Taking to Twitter, viewers commented on Mariah's highly anticipated interview on This Morning.One wrote: "Alison Hammond singing ‘Merry Christmas' infront of Mariah Carey and Mariah saying 'Are you mocking me?' is iconic." Another added: "Alison Hammond interviewing Mariah is the funniest thing I've ever seen." Whilst a third remarked of the presenter's appearance on the show: "Alison Hammond never fails to make me smile she's such a lovely funny lady."
