Rock and Roll Hall of Fame's 2025 nominees revealed

The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame has officially nominated Mariah Carey, The White Stripes and more for induction in 2025. The Cleveland-based museum confirmed on Wednesday, February 12, that 14 nominees in total will be on its ballot this year, including eight acts who've never been nominated before. Musicians are eligible to be inducted into the Hall of Fame 25 years after releasing their first commercial recording.

New performers up for consideration in 2025 include R&B pioneer Chubby Checker, 1970s rockers Bad Company and Joe Cocker, '80s icon Billy Idol, Latin pop group ManĂ¡, influential hip-hop duo Outkast, blues rockers The Black Crowes and jam band Phish.

Six other acts eligible in 2025 have all been nominated for the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame before but previously failed to be approved by the "1,200 artists, historians, and music industry professionals" that make up the Hall's voting panel. Five-time Grammy winner Carey, who was first nominated in 2024, and Cyndi Lauper, who was last on the ballot in 2023, are the only two women eligible for induction this year.

Other previously nominated acts up for consideration in 2025 will be Joy Division/New Order (last nominated in 2023), the recently reunited Oasis (who were first on the ballot in 2024), Soundgarden (who are nominated for the third time) and The White Stripes (who were previously recognized in 2023).

"These remarkable nominees have each created their own musical style and attitude, impacting generations of music lovers and contributing to the ever-evolving sounds and continued growth of rock & roll," John Sykes, chairman of the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame Foundation, said on Wednesday.

There were some notable snubs, as always, with heavy metal icons Iron Maiden failing to be nominated once again despite fan campaigns to get them in the Hall of Fame. No country music artists are eligible in 2025, even after Dolly Parton and Willie Nelson were both inducted in recent years.

The Hall's panel of experts will be voting throughout the spring, with fans also getting a chance to cast their ballots online before a combined tally is taken and the official inductees are announced in "late April".

The 2025 Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction ceremony is scheduled to take place in Los Angeles this fall, but the venue and ticket availability will be confirmed later this year. Whoever makes it into the Hall of Fame will be following an impressive 2024 class, which included Cher, Mary J. Blige, Dave Matthews Band, Ozzy Osbourne and A Tribe Called Quest, among others.
