Mariah Carey is revisiting one of the most discussed chapters of her career with the release of Glitter (25th Anniversary Edition), available now, October 30, 2026. The expanded project celebrates the soundtrack's 25th anniversary with previously unreleased vocal recordings and new versions of songs that helped define the original album.
Ahead of the release, Mariah Carey revealed that the anniversary edition would include unearthed vocal takes from several tracks. In a message shared through her mailing list, the singer admitted she was initially reluctant to make the recordings public, explaining that there was a reason they had not appeared on the original soundtrack. Nevertheless, she described them as an anniversary treat for fans and expressed hope that listeners would enjoy hearing a different side of the recording sessions.
The expanded release follows a series of musical updates designed to bring the Glitter era back into focus. On October 17, Marian Carey unveiled a new remix of "Loverboy" featuring Da Brat, Ludacris, Shawnna and Twenty II, accompanied by the music video. The track revisits one of the soundtrack's signature songs, which famously incorporated elements of Cameo's 1984 hit "Candy". Mariah Carey also released a new version of "Didn't Mean to Turn You On" featuring Canadian singer-songwriter Rochelle Jordan.
Originally released on September 11, 2001, Glitter served as the soundtrack to Carey's film of the same name. The album debuted at No. 7 on the Billboard 200 with 116,000 copies sold in its opening week, although its commercial performance was overshadowed by the extraordinary circumstances surrounding its release. Despite its difficult reception at the time, the project gradually developed a devoted following, with listeners increasingly recognizing its blend of dance-pop, R&B and disco influences.
"Loverboy" remains central to the soundtrack's complicated commercial history. After an initially difficult chart run, the single climbed to No. 2 on the Billboard Hot 100 and ultimately became the best-selling single in the United States in 2001. Its journey has since become an important part of the story surrounding Carey's Glitter era and the challenges she experienced during that period.
Twenty-five years later, the anniversary edition gives fans an opportunity to revisit the soundtrack with additional material that was previously unavailable. Stream Glitter (25th Anniversary Edition) now.
