Mariah Carey (probably) a no-show at 2010 Grammy's

Due to a bizarre loophole in this year's Grammy Award eligibility, it seems Mariah Carey will likely be sitting out next year's televised award ceremony. Revealed last week by THR reporter Roger Friedman, the National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences has decided that because their 2010 awards show is moving up one week - from February 7th to January 31st - they must also move back the deadline for artist submissions....by one month.

Among other things this means that Carey, whose album "Memoirs of an Imperfect Angel" is scheduled for release September 15th, will only be eligible to receive an award for her current single, "Obsessed". "I'm sorry to have missed the deadline," Carey told Friedman this weekend. "We were trying to make it, but we also realized the material we had was so special and we didn't want to rush and do it wrong."

Carey, who considers the material on "Angel" to be her best-ever collection of material, adds that instead of vacationing in Italy this summer she's decided to stay in New York City to finish work on the album. "I'm staying in NYC," she says, "and getting this done."
