After delivering countless hit songs, the dynamite diva has decided to give the world a perfume, M by Mariah Carey. She tells Eastern Eye why she decided to launch the perfume and what she thinks makes a woman sexy. Why a fragrance, and why now?
I have always loved the idea of a fragrance, but I never found one that felt like it was meant for me. When Elizabeth Arden offered me the opportunity to create my own fragrance, I jumped at the chance. Together we created something beautiful. I'm very excited about M by Mariah Carey and I hope everyone loves it as much as I do. What were your inspirations?
The inspirations were multiple - places I have been, moments in my life and childhood memories. There's a marshmallow accord in the top note. Its like a subliminal thing and takes me back to my childhood. The Tiare flower is in the heart of the scent. It makes me think of travelling to beautiful places like Hawaii and relaxing on Capri, one of my favourite getaways. Moroccan incense is in the bottom note. I went to Morocco a few years ago and loved this smell because it's so warm and sensual. I buy incense on the street in New York city and burn it at home all the time. How does creating s fragrance differ from creating music?
Creating this scent was like creating a song, and that's what I know best. I was surprised to find how similar they are - both involve layering notes to create a beautiful, intricate structure that moves people. I put so much of my heart into my music and I did the same thing with M by Mariah Carey. Who is this fragrance for?
M by Mariah Carey is for everyone I love, especially my fans. It's such a personal way to share part of my life and world with them. I hope they love it as much as I do. How do you want women to feel when they wear your fragrance?
Sensual. What's in your makeup bag?
Lip gloss and my perfume. What do you do to relax?
I don't get time to relax but I've learnt that I have to make sure I block out periods on my schedule where there is no work allowed - the best way is to go on vacation. I love tropical places and swimming in the ocean. The more private and secluded the place is, the better. What do you believe makes a woman sexy?
Having inner beauty and confidence. When do you feel you are most beautiful?
When I am happy. Who is your style icon?
Marilyn Monroe. Who are your favourite designers?
