I love Céline a lot actually, have all her English records as well, and yes as some members here have pointed out "Falling into you" is her best album. It also was my first Céline album. Lol. Having said this, I would say that she's not a versatile singer like Mariah is. The ability Carey has to dabble into multiple [genres] and come across as seasoned and believable, Céline lacks and for the most part can come across as one-dimensional.

I always look forward to Jermaine's music production and collaborations, that man is a musical genius and has that creative magic with Mariah. The very first song they wrote together, is one of her massive hits. That in itself is a flex.

Reminds me so much of the quiet before the "Emancipation" storm that didn't let up until at least mid 2006, and that era began early, say around February 2005, and poor miss "I don't know her" was its first casualty. Haha.

This had been on my mind for quite sometime on and off. It is time for those numbers to be updated, The first album especially has been 9x Platinum since the early to mid 2000's that should have crossed well over 10 million by now being that Mariah is still relevant and active even today, about the only act that debuted in 1990 still releasing stuff. I think there should be a push by her team to get RIAA to update her catalogue's numbers, not just the first album.

Oh my. Haha. I never, ever (all caps) listen to new Mariah Carey music (or new music in general period) with other folk around for this exact same reason. Distractions and opinions that could marr your own thought process and opinions as they form while you're listening, it can be very annoying. For "The Emancipation of Mimi" I took my time and played that album on my discman first using sound blocking earphones for this reason and boy was I blown away. Then the next day sure enough while playing the record, friends in droves came around and everyone kept chiming in opinions, but I had already formed mine over 24 hours before and was even singing along already. Sorry about your "Circles" bad experience. That's one of the most powerful vocals on that record, give it another chance.

I knew "Through the rain" wasn't going to be a big hit immediately I heard It, as it kind of came across as "cliché" for the lack of a better word. But I also knew even in that moment that it was an important recording for her and would be one of those songs that would stand the test of time. I can say it has and its become a classic the casual listener knows, but doesn't even know the singer, Kind of like "Hero". It's sad that was the last true Pop ballad she recorded as she ditched the format entirely and I miss those type of songs from her.

Honestly, I think Mariah and Michael Bolton's voices, especially at that time, really worked well and won't mind another Pop Ballad duet something original this time. It's time for Mariah to sing and collaborate with [singers], tangible singers who like her, have that definitive gift of singing, that sets them apart from the fray. Brandy is definitely a step in the right direction, and I was ecstatic to find out about the Clark Sisters too as another potential collaboration.

I always, always wished Mariah and Brandy would've collaborated back in the day before both their voices changed, but I'm still here for this collaboration. Can you imagine the insane harmonies and background vocals these two are capable of? Brandy alone is so complex in her song arrangement, and then throw in Mariah. Both of them are second to none when it comes to the harmonic voicings that they do. I think we're going to be pleasantly surprised.

I [love] that version too and will always remember how I first heard it, didn't know it even existed until Christmas 2012, with a Christmas playlist on one of the music channels playing and me just on my phone totally ignoring the songs until Mariah's voice starts singing. Haha. So shocking and out of the blue, I knew the song but hadn't even heard this Urban take and by the time the song was coming to an end, with those high falsettos and the whistle I thought to myself "I miss her music on the radio and on cable TV" this is what music is all about. The air seemed to clear and the temperature drop a little bit (I don't know for some strange reason, t'was hot that day) and I had a wide grin on my face. Lol.

Yeah exactly what I am talking about. She's been having problems as far back as '94 which you can hear when you play those vocal stems, say "O Holy Night" after the whistle tone, there's a scratching effect going on there.

"Nodules" Bill, that's the main reason she's experienced all these issues, and they get worse with time, thus the rasp in her upper belts that wasn't there before nor the airiness since the "Daydream" era. And yes I have pointed that out too, her quality became thinner and more "metallic" or "silvery". That quality is the early onset of the airiness we hear on "Butterfly" a direct result of newly developed nodules, compounded by a heavy world tour back to back from 1996 to 2000. If she had slowed down between '97 and '99, I think Mariah would've saved her voice or at least maintained the "Merry Christmas" sound. I feel she should have vocal surgery but that in itself is scary. She may loose the whistle register and there goes the ability to sing half her repertoire. Devil and deep sea.

Adele's "30" is overrated and quite a bland album, I must say. EOM is just about the only single worthy song on there and is losing steam. AIWFCIY is still growing, it's inevitably gonna hit number one.

Where are you Christmas? (99,116)

I want her version of this song, this Christmas. Because those lyrics are personal and I feel this was one song she should not (all caps) have given to Faith Hill nor any other singer to record (vocal issues and all). It's such a beautiful, beautiful song and really hits home. I loved it from the very first listen and didn't even know it was Mariah who wrote it.

Wow, 2022 is just around the corner? I recall 2002 like yesterday and how "Through the rain" dropped mid October and the "Charmbracelet" 2nd or 3rd of December if I'm not mistaken. Time does fly doesn't it? . This would be the first time she would be releasing a full on studio album in the year of "2" and not just at the end of the year, if you get my drift. However, I am not stoked for the album unless it is some kind of compilation of powerful songs (ballads I hope, with not one single rap collaboration in sight, I'm sick of those) and undeniable bops from when her voice was pristine because right now, something just doesn't add up Mariah, your instrument is "compromised" to put it nicely. I was so shocked by that BPCH clip and I didn't even watch the full performance. Smh. I want this woman to win so bad, but it seems she does not want that for herself, she is long overdue for another tangible era like we know very well she's capable of and to connect to the younger generation (who if I may add already adore her) and reconnect back to disillusioned lambs like say Randy. Lol. Sorry Randy no shade here. And welcome back by the way.

Mariah Carey Vs. Beyonce' Knowles (99,107)

I don't look forward to any duets of Mariah with other artists, it always comes across as distracting. Chaka Khan gave the analogy of artists being like planets, she says they don't always have to collaborate, each is his own entity and fares better solo. This applies to Mariah too. She's said it in words, with "The meaning of Mariah Carey". Now it's time to speak through the music, which is the best way she knows how to after all. Sing from the heart like you used to, almost as if you have a point to prove, which in a way you do - the younger generation don't know much about her at all, they don't even know the triumph that was "The Emancipation Of Mimi" era, to them she's just a Christmas act now (have you seen those "Mariah Carey is defrosting" memes? lol, the disrespect), which we all know is far from the way it really is. It's time for her to sit with herself and rewrite the narrative, tell the story the best way only you can tell it. I want to experience Mariah Carey again like I did when I was a little boy, If there's anyone who can do it, she's the one. Industry politics, ageism and all.

Someone here likened this Adele's 30 album to Mariah's "Daydream" era. Lol how interesting. I was wondering why this go around, it was kinda a finished event about a week later and no one was talking about the album. I wasn't impressed with the new songs she sang at the performance special a few weeks ago, the songs just weren't memorable enough (something about a melody that sticks is everything) and none of the songs have that, at least the ones I have heard. "Easy on me" is no "Hello" which was a monster inescapable hit.

Just listen to the Mariah only version of the song available somewhere on YouTube. So many parts of her vocals are much clearer and you can actually hear the different parts she sang.

McDonalds (98,914)
by Terna from Nigeria

Why is this such a big problem? Other celebrities do it so why should the rules be different for Mariah? Times have changed and being an [employer] the way she is (you didn't realize that now did you), you get your coins anyway you can as long as it is legitimate. I see her branching out and capitalizing on "The Queen of Christmas" title (she really is becoming synonymous with Christmas, haha) and going all out, she isn't making any money selling records (news flash no one is) neither is she touring at the moment. So a few millions (best believe she was paid in millions) for a 30second ad, I say go for it. Mariah is not responsible for the [lifestyle] choices people choose, McDonalds was there long before Mariah Carey debuted and will be there long after she's gone.

You just might be up to something here, I recall seeing on IG that she did a song with the Clark Sisters. I look forward to a Gospel album, it isn't a step into new territory as she's written many Gospel songs before but a whole album dedicated to the Most High, I would really love. Now let's also get that proper Lauryn Hill duet while we're at it.

This song right? Well to me the only thing I find in common actually is the use of the Spanish Guitar. Toni's song is straight up one of the most beautiful songs that incorporates that guitar sound, a personal favorite of mine and a satisfying (keyword) experience to listen to all round, melodically, lead vocally, song structure wise, background vocals etc. The difference here is while Toni's song is everything, Mariah's on the other hand leaves a lot (all caps) to be desired. Smh.
