My MC 2015 fantasy wish list (48,007) by Baby from Dreamville...Where There's No Beginning & There is No End (Saturday 22 November 2014; 3:07)
"We've been hearing about things that either never come to fruition, get sabotaged or don't get promoted for decades now. So just for fun I'm putting together a lil list of all the things I wish are gonna be Mariah's big announcement for 2015 and or beyond.
1. A European residency in London to celebrate her 25th anniversary. 2. Carbonated Butterfly drink released internationally using Thirsty as promo. 3. An annual Christmas Broadway show written and produced by MC. 4. The Bond theme, performed, written and produced by MC and a cameo role on screen. I think Bianca needs to dust off her wig for this one. 5.The debut album re-released with the original demos, live performances and unleseased tracks or remixes. 6. An autobiography, maybe as a three-part book series? Childhood - The Sony years - Post Glitter. 7. A cable miniseries about her life using the books as a template. 8. Crave Records 2.0 and an HBO tv documentary chronicling the journey of MC mentoring new artists and maybe giving forgotten one's a new chance. 9. A Christmas movie produced and written by MC with old and new music where she plays at least one of the characters. 10. A DVD to commemorate her 18 US #1's with video commentary on every song and how it came to be from inception to charting. Also, funny anecdotes in the bonus features and guest appearances with her collaborators through the years.
What do you guys wish Mariah's big 2015 announcement will be about?"
I'm doing another wish list for 2016 so I went back to see what I posted last year. So far, I'm a pretty happy Lamb since several of the things on my wish list came true at least partially already. YAY!

Bad blood: Do you know how long JLo has been screwing with Mariah? (53,901)
by Baby from Dreamville...Where There's No Beginning & There is No End

1. Let's talk about: Do you know where you're going to? (The theme from Mahogany.) Mariah included her stellar rendition of it on the original #1's in 1998 only for JLo to copy her a few months later On The 6 in 1999. Of all the songs to cover in the world and include on your first album both you, your producer and the record company boss settle on a song the top artist at your label just recorded and intended to release as a commercial single? Yeah, that's pretty standard in places like Hell. Jennifer "I'm Real" Lopez, Cory Rooney and Tommy Mottola are all going you know where. I remember going to the record store at the mall near my HS campus to listen to new music and having already purchased #1's I found it an odd coincidence that Jennifer Lopez had the same cover song on her album as Mariah as vocally weak as her version is. I know better now, there is no such thing as coincidence. This is my first post on the history of [censored] Mariah has had to endure in her unparalleled 25 years in the music industry.

I wrote a whole spiel but I deleted it because I couldn't figure out if that sexist diatribe was supposed to serious or a joke. I mean, since when does an intelligent woman with a net worth of over $500 million take anyone's advise that starts with: Sometimes Mariah doesn't take her career seriously? We love JD but he has no business giving anybody career advise other than as the cautionary tale his own decisions have made of him. Meanwhile, wake me up when Barbra takes JLo up on those free vocal lessons.

Songwriters Hall Of Fame (53,824)

More than the sure to be elusive induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, an imminent SHOF honour would actually make more sense where Mariah is concerned. The SHOF academy obviously see her as someone other than a "songwriters friend" as her only entry in their entire database is through the Whitney Houston duet When You Believe., written by Babyface and Stephen Schwartz.

Even if I rarely encounter lambsb IRL I've never really dealt with people who dislike her music or her persona. And I could never fall for some guy who didn't appreciate her importance in my life. Same with MJ, it's a basic litmus test for me that trumps any other affiliations one might otherwise go by like religiosity or political views. They matter, of course, but some people change their politics and faiths like Twitter changes its trending topics. It's easy to lie about who you voted for in the last election or pretend like you are an aware citizen and a spiritual person when you are as snowed-in and ungodly as they come IRL. But there are tell tale things about you that never change and they show up in the art you enjoy in your day to day life. That is too hard to fake beyond 6 weeks. The same goes for certain films. But I don't judge any books by its lover in the same way though. Do I make any sense to you? All of this was to say that the biggest cultural impact Mariah has had on my close friends through me has been the gradual insertion of the term: dahling. They don't even know that it's a Mariahism because I've also been a grand fan of AbFab since the 90's. I'll never tell.

As always, M is showing mad love to the Lambily and Olivia Newton-John. Also she casually broke the news of the Merry Christmas re-release later this year. The Infinity MV is on the way and it might be just hours until we get to see it. I'm excited, these things make me happy.

And who's paying/incentivising him? Surely he doesn't think he has a chance in all the seven hells to get back in to the fold. I feel like the whole thing is a setup and unfortunately any number of fingerprints could be on this, or it could even be a "group effort" so to speak. Next thing you know he's been hired to produce some no-talent goat herder. Otherwise, he could just sue them for slander and defamation or whatever, if he was somehow "misled"? Like stand in your shit every once in a while. Somehow I doubt he will sue though. Meanwhile, Mariah is laying in a litter of fanmail but we are to believe a former confidant/bff/loverboy of her's couldn't get a message through to her if he really needed to? No, he had to relay whatever "misquoted" messages he needed telegrammed all over these e-streets to a known tabloid. Oh, okay, that makes a lot of sense. All this is basically cockblocking tbh. Also, I greatly enjoy your pseudonym.

"Poor man he's obsessed. Mariah leaves them stressed. I don't believe they were intimate. They were friends. His timelines don't even match up. Fool. I hope Mariah throws some epic shade his way." B, I read the manuscript of the never-will-be-prospect whenever it came out and it was mired in innuendo. The truth shouldn't be that convoluted an affair. I mean, does he even like the water? Another day another clown. We've all seen how personable M can be, I'm sure a lot of guys read more into her playful nature than they really have a right to. Just like how flirty she was with Michael Strahan when I doubt very much she's even remotely into him at all. But beyond the apparent attention whoring meets smear campaign, am I the only one who sees this as a way to sabotage Mariah's chances of attracting a good calibre male? In the urban dictionary I think the term is better put: "cockblocking". It's very cruel.

Wow. That was a better answer than my question tbh. Thank you so much for being so thorough yet entertaining. Much appreciated. I wonder if even Mariah knows this about one of her strongest Lamb-bases and why she is so popular there. Super interesting read and I'm a bit jealous because Sweden is not exactly Lamb central. People here don't really "Stan" for anyone no matter how popular they get. It's literally an unwritten Norse Law. I wonder what is like to be in a country brimming over with lambs all-a-singing-Careyoke-24/7? *mind blown*

#1 To Infinity goes top 10 on Swedish iTunes (53,718)
by Baby from Dreamville...Where There's No Beginning & There is No End
| |
|
|
Don't believe me just watch. Like most things MC these days, I found out on Twitter from fellow Swedish lambs. Infinity peaked at #11 in the first week here and that to me was a great sign because most of the time Mariah songs don't make that sort of instant impact. But thanks to the lyric video it did just that. I have a good feeling the video will do wonders for the single as well as the album. Fun fact: Earlier this week Mariah's top downloaded song was Emotions while Infinity was at #2. All the top ten downloads were from #1 To Infinity. So this project is obviously exposing her music to a younger demo that have heard the Emotions loop on Dubsmash and are now getting to know the rest of her catalogue. Caution: Good times ahead.

Thank you both for the brush up on Filipino history as it pertains to the popular pastime of singing karaoke and impersonators. I'm going to reacquaint myself with your suggested tableau of pinoy artists to see if I might have missed a great voice due to my own prejudice. Although, I do remember a young blind girl on YouTube singing a Mariah song (IBT) in a mall She had such a piercing voice and mature tone. I wonder sometimes what happened to her, if she ever recorded anything professionally? Let me go get her name and link it: Katchry Jewel Golbin a.k.a. Alienette Coldfire. And once again I am wowed by how pleasant her tone is. So much power and musicality without being showy. Truly anointed. I swear I get chills every time I play that clip. Brrrr.

Deedre, Mariah is not negative in the least (53,693)
by Baby from Dreamville...Where There's No Beginning & There is No End
| |
|
|
Celine is part of the vocal trinity, yes, but she has also been greatly insulated from the negative aspects of celebrity in a way Whitney and Mariah never were. Partly it is because she is a genuinely nice person who doesn't go out if her way to be a bitch but to my knowledge, neither did Whitney. And Mariah is too nice for her own good sometimes. My point is, Mariah never seeks out the negativity but because of her perceived threat level (vocalist, singer-songwriter, actress) and status as the one to beat. She attracts the comments of insecure artists who are jealous and envious. That has been true since Madonna, JLo through Christina, Nicki Minaj to Katy Perry. There are countless others but for the sake of brevity they shall remain nameless. Meanwhile, Celine, Mariah and Whitney never had any beef between them. In fact, they seem to all have always been friends once they were properly introduced and never had any falling out. That's the norm with Mariah and not the exception as some would like to falsely report. Mariah responding to digs, daggers and disses that are 100% uncalled for is not her being negative. If anything she's really the modern day Pollyanna.

ktktkt and my impression (53,670)
by Baby from Dreamville...Where There's No Beginning & There is No End
| |
|
|
Honestly, it's not stellar. Neither the Nippy or Mimi impressions were anything to write home about. But: Yay for effort. The gratuitous hologram of M was on point though, pointless, but on point. BTW, what is the back story to why the Pinoy have such love of extreme karaoke? It's a pity so much emphasis is placed on emulation of great singers rather than the development of individual quirks, tones and musicality. It's very obviously not for lack of talent. Maybe I'm just not exposed to the right Filipino artists but that's been my impression so far. Am I making any sense?

For the record (53,642) by Marcel from Looneyville (53,648)
by Baby from Dreamville...Where There's No Beginning & There is No End
| |

Why the false anecdotes? Walter didn't write Love Takes Time, he only produced it. Mariah wrote it with Ben Margulies while they were still collaborating, before it was discovered he'd essentially enslaved her by contract. Also, it's 100% more likely M who was responsible for plucking Walter from obscurity. Just because Tommy Mottola likes to be in control and give the impression that he's the genius by always making the calls to reach out doesn't mean it didn't come from Mariah. Notice how by Emotions none of the co-writers/producers from the debut except Walter survived. If it weren't for Ben's rapaciousness M would have remained loyal to him and Walter wouldn't have ever been a part of Mariah's music in the way he later became. Well, for someone who didn't co-write IDWC both MC and Narrada Michael Walden have a funny way of showing it. Kelly Price was a backup singer for Mariah many a time but she is only credited as a featured artist on the TTR remix. Walter's a glorified transcriber in my book of Mariah and he shouldn't have recieved half the credit he got. If he was a real 50/50 contributor he would have been as successful as Diane Warren, David Foster, Jermaine Dupri, and his team with other artists. I mean, the man thinks emblazoned is a word MC made up. Meanwhile he's credited as songwriter on My All? It's pretty obvious he was given credit for even just breathing. He should go write songs with BM, maybe he can get him to finally smile like he won the lotto.

This is another brilliant sneek peak into the Infinity video and I love love love it. I see you Mimi, I see you. Are you guys so excited? I'm still not over the clip from Ellen with Tyson Beckford looking like God's gift, Jussie Smollet looking like Farnsworth Bentley and the runaway sommelier, with the Belaire champagne, looking like Frito the Italian car thief. The facial expressions alone are replay worthy. So freaking funny and beautifully shot that I'm probably buying this MV on iTunes in a few months. I can't wait to stream this non stop. *squeeeee*

L.A. Reid downplaying Mariah's relevancy (53,547)
by Baby from Dreamville...Where There's No Beginning & There is No End
| |
|
|
B, I wouldn't worry about Mariah putting out a concept album. Billy is right to take note of her singing a snippet of ISB at the mini concert on Jimmy Kimmel. That's a cover that Mariah not only made her own but reinvented through the various remixes. Mariah is a musical genius and the only living recording artist whose audience isn't limited by genres, geography, gender, seasons, ethnicity, creed or entire generations. It's no wonder she and MJ share the same #1 record with IBT. They share a lot of the same traits that make them so universally loved. Remember how pissed M was that Tommy was turning her into Connie Francis with the Merry Christmas album? Regardless of other's motivations, Mariah broke out of any music box TPTB have ever put her in and she will again. Also, it seems Mariah's sole motivation for this era is L.O.V.E. more than anything and I think it's very brave how she's going about it. One could even say cocky, well for Mariah it is very brazen. In any case, L.A. Reid is a mere mortal, he has no control over the devine entity that has shown Mariah favour over the years. But even still, he's the reason WBT, SIO, DFAU exists so he obviously has great intuition and Mariah's back. He calls her his "work wife". Besides, some of Mariah's best songs have stalled at #2, like Can't Let Go. Meanwhile some of her best work like The Roof or more recently the MIAMTEC album remain unsung because of politics. I hope she addresses some of this in the HBO special.

Don't worry though, this is by all accounts a good thing IMO. Tell you what though, I'm surprised so few lambs picked up on the big and small hints Team Mariah has been dropping left and right lately. It's only a matter of following the breadcrumbs. I refrain from going into great detail firstly because it's tedious and somewhat difficult to explain what triggers a gut feeling in me and secondly because I know it's not only friendly ears listening in on our conversations. So not knowing what were intentional slips of tongue from Mariah and Co. and what perhaps were glitches in the matrix I wouldn't sabotage a project or jeopardise anyone's standing by blabbing about something I found out on my own just because. B on a Janet and Mariah collaboration (53,383) (53,448)
by Baby from Dreamville...Where There's No Beginning & There is No End
| |
|
|
"I would love a duet between Mariah and Janet. I'm not sure it will happen since Mariah is a very loyal person and her loyalties are to JD." Well, what if they were "forced" to? Didn't Jussie Smollet say he wanted both of them to guest star on Empire next season? Lee Daniels could totally "make them" work together. It could even work as a readymade storyline: art imitating life or life imitating art. Ironically, I can never know the difference of that saying. Also, Mariah and Janet have plenty of good will between them on their own, it would be a shameful waste. We love JD but if he's the only reason two living legends can't potentially break our TVs, radios, charts and the Internet? Just imagine: The Slayage Of LambNation 1814. Okay, let me stop before my feelings get hurt. B, why you put this in my heart? The devil's own.

Honestly, I don't actually know anything. But my gut is my secret weapon. I listen to it when it singles something out and from that I can sometimes intuit a lot even from just a word, inflection or a little look. If I concentrate a pattern invariably reveals itself. So that's my answer. If I really knew for sure? I wouldn't have posted anything at all. I'm very good at keeping schtum even if no one asks it of me.
