Moody Mariah Nights (105,233)
by Mimi L. from Empower Your Highlighter
| |
|
|
I'm in a moody Mariah Nights playlist kind of state of mind today haha and I just wanted to come here and express how much I'm in awe of the artist that is Mariah. She definitely does not get credit. Yes she's known for her vocals but Mariah's pen game, her melodies, her hooks, her lyrics, her "ahead of time" musical visions is just otherworldly and genius. The way she uses her voice too should be studied, how she uses her whistles so creatively, how she layers her background vocals, how she creates a wall of music with her voice. People are always in awe of Taylor Swift and how she's a great songwriter and while I agree Taylor is definitely good but Mariah is a thousand times better and just doesn't get enough credit for it. Mariah, if you're reading this, thank you for being the soundtrack to our lives.
Also my playlist has been all over tonight hahah but it includes but is not limited to The Roof, Babydoll, Love Story (the aye baybay always gets me), Side Effects, Thanx 4 Nothing, GTFO, Crybaby (ok so it's 5 am and I still can't sleep took some medicines but it's not working , yussss queen), Don't Forget About Us, My All, Breakdown, Betcha Gon Know.

Tributes (105,230)
by Mimi L. from Empower Your Highlighter
| |
|
|
Don't hate me but I think all the tributes MC gets are just so meh. Why can't we ever get a relevant artist to do the tribute, she's THE Mariah Carey. Also why do people limit the tribute songs to only the first 3-5 years of her career. She's got so many hits I don't get why it's always VOL, Make it Happen etc.

Hahaha I too was thinking it'll be Kardashian Konnection. They wear a lot from the designer. But I agree the styling/draping could have been better to add drama like the run way.

Apparently, it's Schiaparelli design from F/W 2023. But it really needed the drama of the train and better draping around her body. I had my suspicion K. Jenner might have had something to do with it, and since discovering it is in fact a designer they regularly work with, it's definitely more of a probability that clan had a hand in this.

Honestly I don't know much more than you about the award but I hear it's not an actual Grammy or part of the main event so it's not a televised award. Apparently Grammy's has a pre Grammy week and this is one of the recognition awards.

I’ve never heard of this award. Why is Mariah paying dust or why is it exciting? Can someone educate me on this history? (I’m being sincere, I’m totally ignorant to this award.) Thank you for explaining the polarization on this award convo.

Mariah's face looks straight out of 1999 it's crazy. That face no flaws. I'm torn between the dress I'm happy she's indulging in high fashion (she's wearing Schiaparelli) but I don't love the dress. For a second I thought the bodysuit is back haha until I saw the full photo.

Pretty sure they reached out to her and got confirmation she'll attend before announcing this. While Grammy's have played her dirty and honestly doesn't make much impact nowadays, the publicity is good build up to her next era.

I agree. I think she should have added Triumphant (Vintage remix, with the full rain intro - that should have been the actual single imo), plus the ASAP Rocky Beautiful remix, and call it a day. I absolutely don't understand the America the Beautiful inclusion or a rehash of six year old material. My only guess is that Mary J's label and the sex predictor's labels had a contractual obligation that the songs must be included on an official release, which didn't happen with Angels Advocate, as intended. Also the album art should have been the original Art of Letting Go art (either the one where it's her looking over in the bottom right corner or the actual AOLG single artwork). The standard version that's a Emancipation/E=MC2 redo wasn't the right serve, it was redundant.

Those would 100% be better choices than the random picks from years ago. "Triumphant" to this day remains a good song for me. It was just not the right choice for a lead single (which let's be real it was gonna be a lead but the failure to chart led it to being labelled a buzz single) at that time because people were hungry for new Mariah music and her being basically the chorus girl on the song didn't translate well to the listeners. But I love the video and the song.

I always thought it was because it fit the theme of the album of heartbreak and cheating etc. I wonder why she didn't just have 2 extra songs if she knew she was going to do a Target special or put the 2 Beautiful remixes there (the one that was released and the unreleased dance remix).

Does anyone ever wonder what the purpose of putting the two songs from Memoirs (Betcha, Its a Wrap) on The Elusive Chanteuse deluxe edition? Was is it strictly because those two fit the theme of the album or was she actually going to put the two singles from the cancelled Angels Advocate project (UOMF, AC - which would've made more sense since they had music videos and some success), but then decided against that idea once Nicki Minaj became such a brat?

But back then (although I wasn't a lamb back then I was a baby) she would be releasing a new album every year or every other year, at this point I'm dying for new music hahah it's been what 5 years since Caution. I was thinking the other day I hope this is TEOM part 2 for Mariah's career. If Memoirs was Rainbow parallel (I'm not saying song wise, but like career history wise since both didn't perform as well) then MIAM was Glitter parallel, Caution would be Charmbracelet parallel, and Big Energy is IKWYW parallel and then new album would be the return of Mimi. Fingers crossed.

I've always loved her mystery. She was a complete mystery to me back in 95/96 especially and also in 97. I remember when Butterfly was released, it was so much fun to discover all the people she worked with (Puffy aka P.Diddy, Mase, Missy, Sisco, Brian McKnight). So yes, I hope we get some surprises. Just for the nostalgia.

What's crazy is right after I left my last message I saw the "Insider" account posted on January 25th that there's a Mariah and Cardi collaboration. To be honest I don't know how much to trust it, because on UKMix (I'm not a member I just lurk sometimes) I see they keep saying the account is not legit but of course like a few fellow members here posted they did get a lot of stuff right in terms of Ariana's album roll out.

I also find it amusing that none of those artists seemed to care about a collaboration with Mariah, mostly Bruno Mars who was supposed to be the feature on Fall In Love At Chritmas but wasn't a holiday person at all.

Haha to be honest I don't get The Weeknd hype. I know it's unpopular opinion but most of his songs sound the same to me for some reason. It's sad that Mariah, who normally doesn't talk about about other singers she wants to work with, named 3 artists recently and none of them really replied back. The Weeknd, Bruno Mars and Cardi B. Although Cardi did do the interview with Mariah and has fan-girled over Mariah. Another unpopular opinion but I would love for Mariah to patch it up with Nicki. Nicki was clearly always a fan and still praises Mariah, I just think the producers egged them on to create drama. I love the UOOMF remix and think a fresh Mariah feat Nicki song would be fire.

Right. I can't understand why MC being so secretive this time around. She didn't post any studio pics during the recording of Caution. We would have never known that she was working with Poo Bear if had he not said anything. I just wonder during the recording of the early stages of Caution if she regretted mentioning wanting to work with The Weekend after their conversation. It seemed like he never took her serious enough to make things happen. I think that pissed MC off knowing that she publicly said she wanted to work with him. He seems really arrogant to be around. He never gives any interviews. He broke Selena's heart. His Superbowl half-time show was a hot mess and boring. I don't think MC and The Weekend would have any fun in the studio to create anything. Can't you tell I am a fan of the The Weekend?

Quantity vs quality (105,086)

I'll go for 6/10 Mariah album with a couple of big impact hits, that'll set the stage for her next projects and introduce her to new listeners. I really hope she has a solid roll out plan this time. We don't want more test and abandon singles. Also let's be real a 6/10 Mariah album is still going to be better than most of the albums out there.

Would you rather have a rated 6/10 Mariah album with one or two big hits (top 10 or better on Billboard) or a solid 9/10 album (because nothing will beat the perfection of Daydream) with no popular hit singles (doesn't hit the top 40 on Billboard)? Of course I'm hoping we get a solid quality album with hits, but I'm curious to hear what you all pick.

Insider account (105,039)
by Mimi L. from Empower Your Highlighter
| |
|
|
So after y'all brought up the accuracy of the insider account I went and looked at some post and excitement has peaked (I hope we get all of these). 1) The new sound of the album being more happy and up beat like TMB, Honey, SIO etc. 2) Mariah working with a bunch of top producers. 3) Mariah remaking one of her #1 songs or using it as a sample on a new song. No one spices up samples like Mariah does so I am intrigued, what song do y'all think it is? 4) The Butterfly Lounge still being a thing and including new and legendary artists. 5) A song with an acapella/piano intro and then breaking into another rhythm. 6) A possible orchestral project and writing for a movie soundtrack. 7) Mariah with a k-pop artist or group.

Ahh clearly my comprehension skills left the room when I was reading ahah. I love E=MC2 and it had so much potential I would be really excited to see if the new album indeed single worthy song heavy. Mariah is in one of her beauty peaks to parallel her 2008 beauty peak and she is the most confident when she feels her best. I'm ready to be taken over my new Mariah material. Hoping we get some cool collabs too. Mariah usually posts a lot of photos from the studio when she is recording but the strategy of posting nothing and then announcing the new project will be even better.

I think Pedro meant to say that the "style of music" of the album is similar to that of E=MC2 according to the prediction account, not that the album is called "musical style".
Apparently she has also filmed all her recording sessions as well.

You are smart, you are kind, your opinion is as important as anyone's on this board, so don't let anyone tell you otherwise. A lot of us are going through things in life, I know I am, but instead of spewing hate and abuse I try to spread kindness and positivity because my problems in no world justifies me insulting and bullying others. I don't wish ill on anyone and I hope people get the help they need, but that doesn't excuse their behavior. I've seen more often than not bullies project their own insecurities on others.

I remember that Andrew said back in November or December that he was taking care of his mother and she was getting to him. It's not easy having to take care of your parents. I pray that things get better for Andrew. When he started saying that I didn't have much intelligence in my head or I was thinking too much, that is what hurt the most. My mother enrolled my sisters in the best of schools, but she did seem care not to send me to low performing schools. So, that's why I enrolled in the top universities in Tennessee when I became an adult.

The 24 year old would agree with you a 100%. When I started posting online with the old MC.com pink boards (during Charmbracelet) I used to get so hot and bothered if someone attacked me, called me names, etc. I took their words so personally. I would get anxiety attacks over what some online person would say back to me. The now 46 year old me doesn't care. I'm not as strong as you think I am, though I do appreciate your words. Maybe it's an age thing. I've learned to not let what someone says online, who I've never met, affect me. I don't deal in "what if". I don't care about what if Andrew or any faceless, nameless online person here says to me. That's not a diss to anyone. It's just reality. You can't really know someone unless you meet them in person, which is why I could care less what an online personality says about me. They don't know me. I hope I'm making sense, lol.

Shezz, you're always so kind to me and I often wonder why you don't post much, I miss your posts and insights, hope everything is going well for you and thank you for your kind words. As for the insider account, wow, I had read somewhere they have made multiple posts about MC that never came true (although I personally never checked the account), but what you said makes sense that maybe they weren't wrong but Mariah's plans changed, so judging by what Pedro said in his post about the insider claiming her new single and video are ready to launch makes me excited for a strong roll out. It being called "musical style" I wonder if it will be like a visual album. And you are right Shezz, Mariah has been consistently serving excellent looks for a while now and she usually gears up looking great for a new project.

Mimi L. your situation with Andrew was getting uncomfortable for us to read through. I read what all you lovely people have to say daily and rarely post but I wanted to say that you are one of the nicest people here and I am so happy that you stood your ground to his incessant bullying and biggotry which eventually led to his self combustion as it has before. It is so good to have you posting regularly again.
The insider/prediction account that you were talking about I think is Nostradamus Insider. They have been spot on about all other artists. I think Mariah possibly could have had a change of plans midway through her project last year which is what led them to be wrong. They claim MC16 as it was last year was scrapped and re-done.
She has been maintaining her fitness during and post the holidays which means she might be gearing up for something soon.

Stacey you clearly are a strong soul and wise. I admire your resilience, however I do understand what everyone is talking about when they say they get affected. Not everyone has the same strength and a lot of us have been straight up bullied by him, called names, all for having a passion for Mariah's music. While I let most things slide sometimes a few things are triggering. Were all adults here (some may not behave like it lol) but when people are out here calling you a c u next Tuesday, and lord knows what else Eric had to censor it does trickle into your personal life. There could be other things people are dealing with and the last thing they need to be is bullied on a message board and that's why easier to just take breaks and come back hoping for the best.

If it's the account that starts with "Nos" (not sure of the full spelling Nostradamus or something), I read they're not really legit. According to a Twitter account that is supposedly an insider, Mariah's lead single will arrive between mid-February and May, the album musical style will be similar to E=MC2 and will include recordings from the studio sessions. The music video has been already filmed. Well, I don't know about the overall accuracy of this account, but every since I've been following it they were right about everything they leaked. They knew about Ariana's imminent comeback, video, album title and imagery long before it was released as well as other artists, so I hope they'll be right about MC too.

May-August would be nice, maybe roll out with a up beat summer song. And a video with replay value. Possibly a remix with a relevant artist. First quarter too, Taylor is likely to announce her "Reputation (TV)" so that'll be a threat too.

That's a possibility. However, I don't think Mimi is going to want to compete with Ariana, Dua Lipa, Usher, and Justin Timberlake during the 1st quarter. I think a May to August release is probably what she is planning for. We have to get a management and new label annoucement before anything new is released.

Name calling is honestly his go to, and also making strong statements about the intelligence of the party he doesn't agree with to try and demean them and their opinions. Superiority complex is definitely his personality. You either agree with him or you will be called dumb and mentally challenged, no healthy debates in his book.

Didn't see that coming, I must admit. I noticed that he has strong opinions but so far, didn't see any name calling in terms of strong insults. Or I missed it. Anyhow, as Mimi L. said, we are all Mariah fans who think strongly about her but hate speech - a no no.
