Blue and Mariah (55,510)
by Mimi L. from Empower Your Highlighter

|
|
So back in the day, I was a huge fan of the UK band "Blue". I loved all their songs and I loved that they co-wrote their songs. Had a major crush on Duncan. So it surprised me when I saw this article from 2013 which says that Duncan and Mariah went on one date. Apparently they went on an informal date once and then ran into each other a couple of times. I always wanted a Blue and Mariah duet. Just to see how it would go. Lee and Mariah hitting the high notes, Duncan with his sexy voice, Antony's buttery tone and Simon's hunky voice. In the interview Simon also mentions that they'd love a duet with Mariah. I didn't love their last two albums since their re-union and I guess commercially a duet between them won't really do much but I'd still love to hear them collaborate since well my other collaboration dream (MJ and MC) is now impossible.

You have to type in the date of the show along with the performance and "Vegas" as keywords. I have not seen a single complaint regarding her voice in the July leg. I too was worried, like Licia, that her voice may not be in good shape after being on board and visiting places with different climates and also because she seems to have rehearsed just a few days before the main show. But she seems to be in great condition vocally at the moment. Plus I used the word "slay" with good reasons man, I am actually envisioning her riding a horse with her sword (the voice) out and killing anyone who comes in her way with the strength of her talent. She really is slaying now.

Licia / cardboard cutouts (55,476)
by Mimi L. from Empower Your Highlighter
| |
|
|
Licia, I completely agree with your post but just wanted to let you know (in case you didn't) that those big cardboard cut outs seems to be a regular thing for the hosts of the parties at 1-OAK club. Scott Disick is usually the host and I have seen in a couple of places that when he is in the club, big card board cut outs of his face along with his girlfriend Kourtney's are usually waved around. Same with when Kim K and her family goes there, their cardboard cutouts along with the person they are dating are usually waved around the club when they make appearances there. So it's not just Mariah and James. I am just writing this because I saw others on other boards also find it creepy. Which I can't blame them since I don't get the point of it but it's a regular thing there.

The media overkill (55,474)
by Mimi L. from Empower Your Highlighter
| |
|
|
I am a little irked by the over exposure of the Carey-Packer relationship. I am all for her controlling how the media portrays her but to always have to put the stories of their relationship out is a bit too much. I have been reading on various boards that Mariah's vocals have improved drastically and that she has been slaying each show. I wonder why none of that is being highlighted because first and foremost Mariah is famous for her voice and it was her voice that was attacked tremendously around the world last year (along with her mental state). So now that we have established that she is not a crying mess, dying for Nick, why not tackle the other more important issue, which is that MC is still the most powerful voice in the industry? Why not capitalize on her winning vocal moments that she is delivering. Yes one video was leaked months back to TMZ showing her hitting the high notes but that was months back. Why can't we be bombarded more with leaks of her vocal ability rather than her personal life? I am not asking them to completely stop with the relationship stories, but there should be a good balance of stories regarding Mariah and it should highlight her talents more than her personal life.

I'm here for a Honey/Heartbreaker/Fantasy 2.0. I need some uptempo Mariah songs. Songs that people can get up and dance to. Combined with those epic videos. Mariah if you're listening, make it happen. Leave the Migrate 2.0 or 3.0 (since we got Thirsty) behind. I like "Migrate" but I love "Heartbreaker" and "Fantasy" more. Plus I adore the remixes of Honey. I may actually love the So So Def remix of "Honey" more than the original.

That article is so full of crap, I can't even deal with it. How can they possibly know all these? Stupid. But yes the general public will eat it up. The diva rituals will be eaten up because Mariah herself has played up the diva attitude so much (although she is joking but the GP won't get that humor) and the "insecure" girlfriend part will also be eaten up by the GP because that's how the media has portrayed her for years now. Stupid article but unfortunately it will be used to poke fun at her for the next 2-3 days.

Ugh correction (55,411)

I meant "that's not to say that she was not gorgeous in other eras too". Oh and the "video shots" I was talking about were not only the music videos but the interviews and appearances she made during that time. For me the first cringe worthy MC video was "Loverboy". I can't deal with those kaleidoscope shots and those short shorts with her bum hanging out. But she looked great regardless. But I did cringe.

Although Mariah is always beautiful and sexy, if I had to pick one era where she was at the most gorgeous, I think it would be the "Butterfly" era. That's not to say that she was gorgeous in other eras too, but her photos from "Butterfly" era and her video shots were extremely gorgeous. Everything was perfect. The hairstyle, the hair color (the gorgeous honey blonde), the sexy yet cute/classy dresses. I laughed at your comment about cringing at "Heartbreaker". I love that video and I didn't really find it vulgar, for me it was very cute with the pink crochet top and the cute signature "rainbow" era hairstyle (lose curls with a clip on the side) but I do remember them boobies swinging around on the screen haha. The video for "Honey" was hot tamale. I vote for a Honey 2.0, now that Mariah is back in that bodysuit for her Vegas shows.

I too heard that the shoot is inspired by a famous painting and that it involves a swing and that Victorian era undergarments. I am actually excited about the shoot. It sounds like something Mariah never did before. We know the usual Mariah poses. One hand up (a la TEOM, E=MC2), the close up and parted lips (CB, Daydream and MIAM deluxe and Japan editions), both hands up (Rainbow, MIAM standard edition) and so on. So I am thrilled for a more artistic shoot. I would prefer something other than Marilyn because Mariah has paid homage to Marilyn directly or indirectly multiple times. I am really excited for this project. I have always wanted Mariah in HB, Vogue and Vanity Fair.

I agree with your post, however I do think the "throwback" thing was blown a little out of proportions. I mean lambs were outraged by the articles with headlines "Katy shades Mariah". But Katy could just have meant that Mariah's music kind of defined the 90s when each year she was on top of the charts and her biggest songs are from the 90s (although that's not my opinion since I do love Mariah's recent music a lot). A lot of Mariah lambs even on this board probably prefer the 90s music because they also keep asking for that. I don't know but that comment never really bothered me or gave me shade vibes. I was also referring to the "Birthday" song when I said she mentioned she has been inspired by Mariah. I didn't know she said the John Mayer duet was also a MC inspiration so thanks for that info. I like knowing about songs which were Mariah inspired. She did call herself a lamb and said "lambiliy for life" and not just a fan so since that comment came straight from her instagram and no magazine interview where things are sometimes twisted, I would like to believe that haha. I love it when big stars from the current scene gush over Mariah. Makes me proud. Anyways thanks for your post. I appreciate the way you delivered your message. Politeness is quite rare on this board.

I was never a Katy fan but I can't lie and deny that she is not a big star of the current music scene. She attracts the teenagers who are the major music consumers. So no I didn't do a sudden turn from my opinion and start loving her. I have always maintained that I detected no shade coming from Katy even when this board was going nuts on calling her out for the song "This is how we do". So I don't know where you saw me hating on her because of that too. I even mentioned the point about her saying she has been inspired by Mariah even before in my posts. My opinion remains the same, I just appreciate her taking the time out of her busy schedule to see Mariah's gig especially since she doesn't talk about her much but others who do didn't bother coming yet. When they do come, I will appreciate them too. And no, I don't care for a Mariah-Katy duet, if I did, I would have mentioned it. My posts are pretty straight forward, no one needs to waste their time reading between the lines for my posts, so if I feel like I want something, I would mention it clearly, no implications here.

I am happy to see Katy taking out time to watch Mariah's show. I think the whole "shade" was just made up as I did not find anything wrong in the Mariah reference in her song. We all suck at Mariah karaokes. She has been a fan and she did say some of her songs were inspired by Mariah's work. Anyways, what surprises me more is that Katy went but people who always claim that Mariah is the reason they started singing couldn't get the time to catch one of her shows yet. I'm looking at you Beyonce and Rihanna. Plus I hope MC and Britney goes to each others' shows. Also I think it's so cute that Katy considers herself to be a lamb and not just a "fan" since she labelled her picture with the #1 To Infinity poster with the caption "lambily for life". That's quite nice coming from someone who is a big name in the current music scene.

Album and all (55,267)
by Mimi L. from Empower Your Highlighter
| |
|
|
With all the positive publicity Mariah is getting since the beginning of this year, it would be perfect if she secretly gets an album ready and schedule it for a January 2016 release. No need to talk about it before that. Just keep recording and mapping out a proper roll out, get the videos ready, the interviews booked and a possible "Making of the album" documentary along with a few magazine interviews. She should strike while the iron is hot. In this day and age people have a very short attention span. Bad publicity can be covered up with good publicity but it takes lesser time for the bad publicity to throw out the good publicity. So now that people are hating her less, praising her more, she should just take advantage of it. Waiting for a long time is less likely to work. Just saying. I don't know exactly how much pressure she will be under after Vegas because we don't have any clue about her upcoming projects apart from the movie. So if she can handle it, I think she should go for it. Plus I still believe Mariah kept some gems to herself from the MIAM recording sessions.

Haha I might be. I just never got into those two songs. But I'll have to call you crazy for not loving "The Roof". That song is perfection. Sexy, sultry, moody and lyrically gorgeous. I do enjoy "Angels Cry" (both the original and the remix with Ne-Yo). I like "To The Floor" too, the breathy MC verses are sexy.

She does have a lot of timeless songs, that is really true, although I could not read which songs you mentioned but I do have a list of my own I guess. But I don't think I can ever get bored of HB. It's such a fun song. I love "Fantasy" too but for me I think it is a very 90's song. I mean it still sounds fresh and awesome but I think people will get a 90's throwback moment since it has 90's written all over it. I also love the Fantasy remixes, but for me, I think HB is more timeless. I think she could have released HB in any year (be it the 90s or even now) and it would still not sound dated. It's just such a fun sing along song. I love everything about it, the vocals, the chorus, the beat. I think it's not a fan favorite since I don't see many people list it as their "top favorite song from MC", but it definitely is in my top 3.

So Fifth Harmony chose "Like Mariah" as their next single after holding a poll. The title is trending on twitter and people are basically hating on it but hey whatever, it's a cute song and I'll obviously support any promo that brings up Mariah's influence. I hope they have a remix with Mariah. I am excited to see how they promote it.

Oh, that didn't cross my mind, since the rumors about the documentary surfaced before Ratner shot the video. Plus didn't we see a B Roll clip with the "Highlights" of her Vegas performance? I was thinking they were shooting it for a documentary or DVD of the tour. Oh well, I hope there is one though. I would also love to see a professionally shot video of her entire Vegas show since the fan recorded ones are not clear for obvious reasons.

Promotions and Mariah (55,166)
by Mimi L. from Empower Your Highlighter
| |
|
|
I know a lot of times when Mariah's songs flop and then we divide into groups, with one complaining how the song flopped due to lack of promotions and the other saying that promotions don't do much for aging stars citing Madonna and JLo, but I honestly think Mariah's case is different. First of all Mariah has the voice, secondly Mariah is one of the greatest songwriters of our time. Madonna (while I heard some other tracks on her album are good) and JLo are choosing a path that makes them look a little desperate and that makes people criticize their age a little more. Like since the songs are a little immature, people will bring in the "she is too old for this" argument. Had Madonna chosen a more mature sexy song instead of BIAM, and backed it up with a good promo set, her song would have been a moderate hit at the very least. JLo's whole album (latest one) was full of crappy songs and it didn't help her that she released "Booty" because no one wants to hear about a 45 year old going on a loop about how desirable her big ass is. So her promo fell flat too, although I should add that her songs did chart higher than MC's, but overall sales were low. But for MC, promo can actually help her a lot because from her side she can provide the mature great songs and the great vocals and if promoted properly MC can actually beat this myth about aging stars. Look at #Beautiful, even though it got little promo but it was aired on American Idol and it shot straight into the top 20s. I think Mariah has great potential to get more hits if she is promoted right and if she makes the right single choices.

I agree with you on the Ariana thing. What she did was bad and she deserved the backlash she got. Although I don't think BBs' stupid article will suddenly change people's negative opinion about her behavior, it was a pretty pathetic attempt by her team. The girl uses her age excuse differently every time to suit her liking. Example, when people call her out for her over sexual image the "oh she is a woman now not a child" excuse comes forth. When she is licking other people's food and yelling about the land she lives in, she is "young, she didn't understand". She quickly apologized for the "America" comment because she knew that it offended a lot of people, plus unfortunately for her it was also 4th of July, but she didn't bother apologizing her tongue on food other people might eat. Like if you and I would lick that donut and it was caught on camera, it would be turned into a major deal. She deserved the backlash, she shouldn't be spared just because she is 22, when Justin Bieber's actions are heavily criticized (which he deserves too). The way she just said "I hate Americans and America" makes you wonder about the rumors of her saying "I hope they all die" about her fans. The comment was quite uncalled for. Anyways moving on to your other post, apparently there is a documentary in the making. Remember rumors about it surface a while back. It's supposedly named "A Butterfly in Vegas" and it's for HBO.

Heartbreaker (55,143)
by Mimi L. from Empower Your Highlighter
| |
|
|
This song does not get old. It's definitely in my top 3 of her 18 #1's. This song is just so fun and fresh and I must not be the only one who busts a move with the chorus, especially the last one and also lip sync to the whistle (HB's whistle is my #1 favorite, the second is LTT's whistle from the live versions where it's more prominent compared to the original). I just love this, sometimes I will hear this so much that I will try to take a break from it and then after a while when I hear it again, it just gives me the same feeling I got when I first listened to it. The video is definitely one of my favorites. The remix is divine, I love how she goes from the fun-flirty and bubbly voice for the original (matching the video with the pink crochet top and cute hair) to the slowed down sultry and sexy voice she uses for the remix. I love the usual Heartbreaker and HB remix medley she does in her shows. I also really love the Junior's remix and it just shows how great she is with remixes. I love the layering of "if you should ever be lonely with gimme your love". The chorus of the Junior's remix is I think kinda haunting and I love how she goes "don't go and break my heart, no no why why did you have to run your game on me". I know I started almost all the sentences with "I love" but I really do love this song. I wish she'd sing this more in her TV appearances now (not just her personal concerts) because this song still has the potential to capture the younger audiences).

At this point Wendy is like that one annoying, delusional over talkative aunt (or relative) that everyone has in their families that come over with the most ridiculous gossip and they blabber on and on and the rest of the family (in Wendy's case, her audience) just sits and lets her wear herself off and occasionally nod (pretending to be in agreement) just so she'll end the story and shut up. She was the one who kept saying Mariah should get a billionaire businessman outside of Hollywood then when Mariah actually got one (I am not saying MC is with JP for the money, she has plenty to last her a couple of lifetimes) anyways so when MC gets one, Wendy's jealousy reaches a new height and her cattiness goes off the roof. She probably thought MC will never get another man. Now she is playing cheap cards like displaying James' picture and pausing for effect, encouraging people to laugh at him because he isn't the most good looking man on Earth. So shallow. Like I said before she is still at high school level where the main priority in dating is to land someone hot and people do everything to make their ex jealous. She tries to pretend that she is fair with her opinions but please Wendy we all can see you getting almost green with envy. MC at her worst will be taken more seriously as a person and a professional than Wendy on her best day. She is a joke, end of story.
