By the way your name is one of my favorites. I always liked it. Anyways, I do agree with you about the dress. I get that it's Vegas and it's over the top, but MC could have had hundred of over the top dress choices if she wanted. That dress did not look great and in an event where she is the main and only star and all eyes (and cameras) are on her, this dress wasn't a wise choice because of photos from unflattering angles. The line of beads or whatever running across the the hip bone through the lower stomach area was very unflattering. The black dress she wore later fit her really well and she looked great in it. Also about Rachel, I have been wondering where she is too. She has always been around her. Not that I am dying for her to be with MC at the moment, before this era started I was going on about how I wish MC would drop Rachel as her choreographer. Rachel had no good choreography for Mariah.

Helicopter (52,601)
by Mimi L. from Empower Your Highlighter

Just to clarify, there is no news or rumor about a helicopter in the music video, there never was. It was me who mentioned it in one of my posts and I was just making a wild guess. While making the guess I had the Honey remix video in mind and so I just wrote it. So yes, no helicopter scenes in the video that we know of.

Interviews (52,600)
by Mimi L. from Empower Your Highlighter
| |
|
|
MDJ has posted the interview with mashable. It's the same one which Baby posted a while back, only this is not the periscope version. It's a proper camera version where you can see them conducting the interview with the iPhone on a selfie stick. Anyways that one is clearer and without interruptions. I am really loving how Mariah is being so sweet and composed in these videos. What a 180 from her Chanteuse interview days.

Lyrics (52,542)
by Mimi L. from Empower Your Highlighter
| |
|
|
No disrespect to anyone and I appreciate diversified opinions, but I am confused why some are hating on the lyrics mainly "acting corny like Fritos". That line is hilarious and it's the line that is making headlines. My initial problem with the song was the chorus and the "why you're mad, talking about you mad" which now no longer is a problem. I always liked the verses and the witty lyrics. I never felt like she was trying too hard. These lyrics are very Mariah. I also do not completely agree with the statements that it is not up to the level of any of her number 1s. Any is the keyword here. So to that my respond to that is hello? Touch My Body anyone? This song is no WBT or LTT (by which I mean deep). But MC's latest #1 is very much in the same line as Infinity. That's also what she probably meant when she said she wants to sing the #1's chronologically because she wants to show her evolution as a writer. Not only is Infinity like many other (although it is quite fresh) MC songs, it is also right up there with some of her top ten hits like SIO and Obsessed and even Loverboy (I included this because the lyrics weren't exactly deep and it was more of a "fun" record). With Infinity MC takes the fun a little further by making light of her sorrow. I agree with the person who said this is more Mariah than Hero (which we all know she isn't a fan of). This is like a child of SIO and Hero. I know I might get killed for comparing it to the ever sacred "Hero" but it is what it is.

#Beautiful debuted on the charts at #4 on the bubbling under Hot 100 because of only airplay count and the following week it debuted on the Hot 100 at #24 after downloads and airplay was counted.

I don't get why hey video wasn't shot when MC and Brert were hanging out everyday a while back. They both seemed to be free. They usually finish shooting in 2 days. I don't know why they couldn't fit it in.

One thing that is unfair for Mariah is she has too big a legacy and while that is what makes her a legend, it also works against her sometimes. People saying she hasn't had a hit in years clearly forgot about #Beautiful. For MC if a song doesn't reach #1 or atleast crack the top ten, it is chalked up as a non-hit. Yes I think I just made up a word. They can't call it a flop, they'll just not take it as a hit. Whereas for everyone else as long as their songs are in the Hot 100, it's a hit. Same for her albums. An underperforming album from Mariah will make headlines while the same by Madonna or JLo or Celine will be forgotten as forgiven. But Mc has to hear it for years on end. JLo's song Booty got rave reviews and her album was rated above MIAM by Billboard. I can't even.

Interviews (52,508)
by Mimi L. from Empower Your Highlighter
| |
|
|
I have been seeing the interviews from Vegas that are popping up and I am happy with the way Mariah is presenting herself. She is calm, composed, answering questions properly and very articulate with her answers. No random ramblings, no going off topic, no ditzy diva moments. She sounds professional and in control. The voice being tired may be because she was probably stressed the night before about the release and then stayed up all night watching the world react to her creation and then prep and be ready for a major event in the evening, while simultaneously looking over the progress of her upcoming show. Anyways I love that she went something like "18 #1's not everyone has them" and kept a straight face instead of doing the usual move she does when she says something like that (which is tilt her head down, looking away and hiding her face with hair while running her fingers through her hair). She's owning up to her legendary status haha. Also this is better than her going "you know about the record, I can't say it but you know" and then getting upset when an interviewer doesn't know she is hinting at breaking Elvis's record. And can we just talk about how gorgeous she looked in the black dress and that awesome hair? I also liked how she responded to somethings head on. Like her vocal issue (where she keeps a straight face and invites people to sing in the shower with her), then about her body (where she says she is trying to get there) and also about the failure of MIAM (where she says that it's not a good idea to give an album to the label you are leaving because they don't have an incentive to support you and also that if the label doesn't back you up and the project is not promoted 100%, it won't do good).

Video (52,507)

|
|
I think chances of the video being released before the end of this week are low. I was hoping for it too, but MC said they just filmed initial parts of the video and that Ratner is in L.A. I don't know how long it takes to edit a music video but I don't want a rush job. I think it was better they released the lyric video first (even though it is quite a sloppy visual), because she sings fast and the lyric video is kind of prepping the listeners to sing along with the song and secondly the funny lyrics is what is making the song go semi-viral. So I think they wanted to focus on it. I do wonder why only clips from Honey was used in it. Hint? The parts of the video shown in Vegas had MC looking gorgeous but I do hope the talk about stunts are true and the whole video is not of her sitting on a chaise lounge.

After giving it a few spins, I am now happy to say that I love, yes love (not just like) the song. I also take back what I said about the ending, it goes on nice. I think maybe the vocals (that some are complaining about) were left that way to express raw emotions. Anyways I am loving the song, playing it on repeat. A little disheartened to hear that the video is not done yet, and that the song is falling down iTunes charts, but still happy and content. I hope MC goes all out with this single. B, what you said about the return of Agent M, I hope that happens. Honey has always been a favorite video of mine. Anyone else tried getting that swim scene on point? (Obviously not jumping from a 2 storey building.)

Now that I have seen the snippet, I am getting more impatient to watch it. All I could see was her getting her makeup done and a shot of her singing on a chaise lounge, and she looks gorgeous. I wanna see the "dangerous positions" they talked about in the articles. I wonder if she is waiting for the lyric video to hit 1 million before releasing the music video.

The single has gone from 21 to 29. I think they should release the video soon followed by some good remixes and appearance. By the way there is a rumor she will be performing at the Billboard Awards. It's also included in the wiki page for the 2015 BBMA. Although wiki can't be trusted but I have seen it in many places.

I get how you feel. I have been in that state a while back then suddenly I found my self humming parts of it. Now I am liking it a bit more. I also am worried about non-Mariah fans, because to get a major hit, the non-lambs need to be on board. About the straight guy thing, this song is probably not going to appeal to them much (non fans) but I think it might have potential. I'll keep #1 in the back seat for now, I'm aiming more for a top 10 at this point and I think that is possible. If Mariah can somehow hook in some non fans who are girls, they'll eat it up. Taylor Swift's "We are never ever getting back", "I knew you were trouble" and "Blank space" got so successful because it became a major break up anthems for girls around the world. Even non fans bought it because the song was relatable and let's face it many people had bad break ups. I'm sure straight guys didn't buy into that either, but still they were major on the charts. Anyways at this point I am mumbling crap I know, it's too late at night. I'm still optimistic about the song even though at first I did not like it.

Ok so it's sweet that Fifth Harmony is giving a shout out to Infinity and even shared the download link on their official twitter. I wish more celebs would do that. Well MC did talk about Fifth Harmony on her twitter so I am glad they are doing the same for her. Hopefully their fans will check out the song and download it. I am going around reading up on the song and it's good to say that most articles are praising it. Plus people on twitter are going crazy over it. It's good, I am happy for MC. There must be something in the song that is getting people hooked. I hope it brings her the success she has been wanting. Also Mariah shot to #1 on the Trending 140. I think now she is at number 2. People with twitter, please keep sharing the link of the song and using the hashtag.

Uggh after removing the accompanying link from my post, it seems weird because it seems vague as to what I was meaning. Basically I meant that even TMZ is now coming around for Mariah. Previously they never had anything nice to say about her. [Webmaster: The article is on my news page.]

Possible ways to boost the song on the charts (52,353)
by Mimi L. from Empower Your Highlighter
| |
|
|
1) A viral video. This can be either done by Mariah having an awesome video that people will love watching and casual fans/non fans will be curious about enough to stream it. Or it can be done with a few celebrities doing recording themselves having fun while lip-syncing the song. This worked really well for Carly Ray Jepsen (both for CMM and IRLY) and Jason Derulo (Talk Dirty). 2) Massive promotion like appearances, social media events, great remixes and all the traditional stuff. Performances at major award shows. 3) A parody of the video by Bart Baker or Key Of Awesome. Parodies of Wrecking Ball and We Can't Stop helped it reach the top and for WB, I think it went to #1 for the second time after a parody of the song went viral. 4) Put it on a popular TV show especially one targetted at younger audiences. 5) YouTube makeup videos. Yes it sounds weird but I have been noticing recently that many movies are sponsoring major YouTube makeup gurus to recreate the looks in the movies (example Maleficent and Cinderella) and at the end of the tutorial they show a snippet of the movie. These famous YouTubers have millions of followers and they might decide to get the song. However, I think it's going to be costly and may not be feasible. Before anyone says "MC doesn't need gimmicks to get to the top", lets me real, the music industry is not what it was, things are done differently now.

Haha yes you were spot on with the prediction. And I also wish that I am missing something that everyone else is finding in the song and that I am wrong about it. This era was looking so good, I am sad today. But even if I don't love it yet, I hope that it works for others and that this single doesn't go to waste or is abandoned because MC already has had a streak of severely under performing singles, not because the songs are bad but because they failed to sell for various reasons. This song somehow needs to do really well. Mariah can't afford another under performing song because the world won't care why her previous singles really didn't work, they'll just take her failure and run with it because she is a legendary artist and everyone likes to tear down legends after putting them on pedestals. If this song doesn't appeal to the masses, it's going to be a problem because only the lambs can't push this song to the top.

Infinity (52,340)
by Mimi L. from Empower Your Highlighter
| |
|
|
It kills me to say this, but I never needed so many listens to a MC song to like it. I read the comments below on this board and I agree with bits and pieces of some of the points made. I did not like the "to infinity" part. I do like the verses and the bridge, the chorus isn't working for me and I think it's crucial for the chorus to work. I agree with the person that this may be a good album cut but a lead single, the only single of the rebirth, it is quite risky. When they hyped up the song so much, I did not expect this. I was hoping either for a party record, something people can blast in the cars during summer or a huge ballad (which like someone mentioned is doing pretty good nowadays). YME is hated by many but I loved the song on first listen. I have always wondered how MC chooses to place her whistles at the perfect place because they blend in so seamlessly but in this song, the whistle was completely disjointed and seemed to be there only for ornamental purposes. Also the laugh at the end did not blend in the song like Honey and UOOMF. It almost sounds like an afterthought. I agree with the person who said many people are probably loving the song because it's a Nick Cannon diss. MC is so good at diss songs (SIO, UOOMF, Someday) which has such memorable hooks and choruses that I am disappointed with this one. They really have to promote it to the max if they want another hit (I'm reserving hopes for #1 for later) and hit people with the video while the iron is hot. I am happy for the people loving the track and I would gladly be proven wrong about my opinion on this song because I want the best for MC.

Took me a while to feel the song, After several listens, I now like it, I guess after a few more I will love it. It took me a while to like TAOLG but now I absolutely love that song. Anyways, but let's be real, the lyric video, although a good idea (since she sings fast) was a bad visual. Especially the "close the door" part. I really want the video to come out real soon and please not next week. Event though I am still not completely into the song, I am happy to see a lot of lambs here and on twitter are really happy and excited about it. So I hope it works out for Mimi. I don't know where the 90s nostalgia is coming from though, it's quite a different sound from Mariah. It kind of reminds me of "Lips are Movin'" by Meghan Trainor. That's a song I really enjoy too. I'm not saying they sound alike, I'm just saying the song reminds me of it. Maybe because of the same theme. Another coincidence is that L.A. Reid is behind both the songs.
