I am so glad you posted that about the media lurking on this message and the lambs doing their job for them by backing up their hate with "facts". That's exactly what I meant in my previous post. Everyone is raving about her opening night in Vegas, even her haters. It shouldn't fall down to the lambs to bring her down again. Enough is enough. Give the woman a break. It's ok to be critical but some of you are just vile.

I agree. Guys, please please please. Remember that this is a public message board. It's funny how things we discuss here turn up in some anti-Mariah article two days later saying fans are upset about this and that. Mariah has been serving the lambily with lipping since Butterfly. Her voice is not like it was in the 90s. Her high chest notes are only there on a good day, not every minute of every day. You either get that or you don't. But please don't bring your frustration here. It is you people who will destroy her career with the hateful things you post, not her lipping which she's been doing for well over a decade now. I can only advise you to stop being delusional and to face reality, this is what her voice sounds like today. The studio product is obviously much better than all her recent live performances combined as she can do several takes and pick the one where she sounds the best. I am content with that. She is a legend. If that doesn't do it for you anymore then don't listen to her new material, don't go to Vegas, don't support her. But don't bash her either. We are all so tired of hearing it. She is on the verge of silencing all her haters and yet you so-called lambs come here to destroy her. Keep it to yourselves please.

Thanks for sharing that link. That was hilarious. A very entertaining read.

I understand your frustration. Whether we agree with what she does or not, I think deep down inside all lambs feel the same way as her track record for live performances in the 90s was flawless. She made us expect that from her. I also think it's beyond human for her to be able to do all that today. I don't think Mariah will ever sing songs that are easier to sing live just so she has songs that she can actually sing live. The only explanation I can think of is that, being a perfectionist, she wants the studio version to be perfect as that's the version that will live on through the years, not some live version at some concert or TV show, unless it's a disaster like AIWFCIY at the tree lighting, but then again let's face it lambs she was extremely sloppy during that whole period due to the divorce. I really don't think she cared. I don't think we will be seeing another "live" performance of that sort anytime soon. I also think she'd still be judged for losing her voice if she tried to sing simpler songs. She's doomed whatever she does. So I say let her do her own thing, whatever makes her happy. I guess I'm lucky that I like songs like Infinity ad YME because she will never stop producing R&B numbers like that.

JC / voice (52,556) by Musti from UK
It's already in my previous post that I accept the general wear and tear in her voice, that I recognize her voice's limits at the age of 45. Obviously she could do everything with much more ease in her early 20s. Who couldn't? But even as early as 1992, she would have to plan it carefully if she were to sing more than a handful of songs in a night. To this day I still believe that the stark change in her voice starting from Butterfly was due to the way she forced herself during the Daydream tour to impress people after the poor reviews of the Musix Box tour. The way she sang Make It Happen alone throughout the Daydream tour is enough to destroy anyone's voice, let alone the variations she did on songs like Hero, Vision Of Love, etc. Have any of you noticed how she hardly did any whistles during the Daydream tour? She let her chest do the talking and ended up damaging her voice. She didn't really go into the whistle register in most of her live performances until Heartbreaker by which time her voice had recovered, but I think she furthered deepened the gap between her full chest voice and whistle register. Which explains her constant lipping of high chest notes in live performances to save her voice for the whistle in the end (which is where it usually is). I wasn't referring to anyone in particular in my earlier post. Her voice is a recurring topic and I thought some things had to be said.

Voice / tours (52,544) by Musti from UK
I wish some people, especially fans, would drop the voice issue and just accept it in the condition that it is today. Mariah has always said that she doesn't like touring because it's detrimental to her voice to sing 20 songs night after night for months in a row (watch her interviews during and after the Daydream tour). Her voice, though magnificent, is extremely unique and fragile. Her high and whistle notes come from an unusual configuration of her chords and nodes, not because she sings (or that she can even sing) them in full voice. She's not a natural soprano. She has also said a few times that mostly she doesn't have access to all the octaves/registers of her voice at the same time. In particular, her whistle notes aren't usually there when she's belting in chest voice, unless she is fully rested. Take MTV Unplugged. She got Emotions and Someday out of the way as soon as possible, and at the end she closed with Can't Let Go on a much lower note. She is not superwoman, even her voice has limits, especially at 45. With all the fans' and the public's expectations, we are forcing her to destroy whatever is left of her voice. I truly hope she lips during her residency. I'd much rather have a few more albums of entirely new songs from her than see her waste her voice on past hits.

Infinity (52,331) by Musti from UK
I think it starts off great. Very powerful track, packed with feeling. The way she says infinity in the chorus says it all. I'm not a fan of the corny lyrics either and I do wish Mariah would stop writing "hip" lyrics, but I never believed that she ever needed a complicated lyric to reflect a complicated emotion. She's a master at dressing up a simple song and making it an anthem. Plus I can see this doing well on stage in Vegas, it has a lot of energy. The only problem I have with it is the high note at the end, especially the acapella intro (oh and her laughter - that only really worked on Honey). I think that's where the song loses its pop potential but nevertheless I think it's a great song. Rarely has a breakup/divorce been put in such a positive way. The music, her voice, it all sounds so optimistic. I'm very happy for her. I hope this song does well.

Last cent (51,763) by Musti from UK
To add to what I said earlier, as Mariah's releases since Memoirs have shown us, the music buying public isn't likely to buy a Mariah album of entirely new material. On the other hand, if Infinity really is a smash, a hit of that caliber would of course carry the compilation onto the charts, especially with a little help from her older #1's. I don't think much production cost has gone into preparing and releasing an album which was already released 17 years ago. To me the album seems more like a vehicle for the single and of course her residency. There can be no flop here. I just hope the single is amazing.

Two cents (51,743) by Musti from UK
I'm not too bothered that Infinity is the only new track on the album. Judging by the statement on the official website this album is purely intended to be a comprehensive collection of her #1's, mostly in support of her Vegas residency. And although I'm very disappointed that Someday MTV Unplugged and Fantasy ODB Remix are the only alternate versions included, it looks like she's really hoping Infinity will be #1. And judging by all this promo, she's willing to do what it takes to make that happen. In my opinion the whole point of the residency is to remind people why they loved Mariah in the first place and why they spent their money on her. To sweeten the pot before an album of new material is released, not to relaunch her career with a collection of #1's and 4 new tracks. LA was very successful in handling her comeback and probably would've managed E=MC better had she not disappeared with Nick at the time. I'm sure they have a new album in the works, which is why she only has one new song here. I don't accept that she doesn't care anymore. She just moved back to Sony to be with LA. That indicates a lot.

Billy / Billboard (46,842) by Musti from UK
I completely agree. I love those little mentions or, even better, full length articles. Like the ones Billboard have been increasingly putting on their website about Mariah's achievements over the years. She's their queen, and I get the impression that now that she has surpassed Elvis they want her to beat the Beatles too. Fingers crossed for the next album.

I hope you're doing well (46,402) by Musti from UK
This comes from the bottom of my heart. Although Mariah is a strong person, we all know she is also quite sensitive and fragile. In the earlier years of their marriage she had found a safe place in Nick and one could tell from her face that she was genuinely happy. Shame that Nick could not keep up with Mariah's love and general class. I can imagine she must be pretty heartbroken right now and she's probably looking to get away, hence this tour to the far east. No doubt Roc and Roe are making it much easier for her to handle. Although I truly hope she finds love again, I believe her only true love are those two kids. The rumours about her mental health and her capacity to raise them are rude and none of anyone's business. Being a mother is the best job she's ever had and does she know it. I hope this whole experience doesn't cause her to build more walls (Matt Lauer interview, anyone?). She's got too beautiful a heart to shut herself out like that. I wish her all the best.

Katy Perry (45,726) by Musti from UK
A horrible song and a pointless video. At first I didn't mind the Mariah look-a-like, but then she puts up a photo of Aretha? So Aretha gets respect and Mariah gets a drag queen? We are all well aware that Mariah loves vanity and touching herself, but it sure doesn't fall on Katy to emphasize that. I'm not too bothered by it as I don't take Katy seriously at all. But this video has confirmed it for me that Katy mostly sees Mariah as a joke. I officially dislike her.

Randy (44,224) by Musti from UK
I disagree with you that MC is not present on the album. The more I listen to it the more I'm getting a Butterfly feel from it. It's packed with artistic songs, almost entirely lacking in single material, ala Butterfly. I personally love the whole thing. I felt the same about Memoirs when it came out, though now I can see its flaws in retrospect. Perhaps evetually I'll feel the same about MIAM but for now I'm far more satisfied with this than I ever was with Memoirs. However I do agree with you that the lack of promotion and Mariah stating herself that she's not about the "single situation" (no single, no video) probably indicates that the relationship between Mariah and Def Jam is completely strained. I don't think they want to invest a single penny in this album. Perhaps Mariah was aware of this all along, so why bother making an album filled with potential singles that will never see the light of day. Nevertheless, I'm very impressed with the quality of her expression and the album overall. She finally sounds like a grown woman.

Finally here (44,109) by Musti from UK
I've been holding myself back from listening to the preview on iTunes. I've downloaded my pre-order this morning and just completed my first listen. I am amazed. There is a mature sound all over the album. Her singing is impeccable. Some songs find her going timbral, truly taking on the character she's portraying. Cry is a perfect opener, one of my instant favourites. My other favourites include Make It Look Good, Faded, Dedicated, YDKWTD, Meteorite, One More Try. Ok I'll stop before I list the entire album lol. I'm convinced the new single should be YDKWTD. Thirsty would be a great choice too but it seems more people have clicked with YDKWTD. Welcome back Mariah. Love you eternally.

New songs (43,710) by Musti from UK
I love it. I'm so excited about this album. Every single song she's debuted so far is amazing. I think fans really need to stop comparing her new material to her other songs. Some of you seem to detect "part 2"s that just aren't there. Yes in terms their mood Thirsty is reminiscent of Migrate and YDKWTD of I'm That Chick. But I don't hear any resemblance beyond that. Even YME is largely independent of her older material, except for the last part sounding a bit like WBT. I am so glad that she has stopped recycling her older material. And I'm even more glad that the tessitura YDKWTD fits her voice perfectly. Mariah is officially back.

Thirsty (43,557) by Musti from UK
I'm completely glued to my laptop, can't stop listening to it. I love it. It's so hot and aggressive. Such a fresh direction for her. I'm a bit disappointed by those lambs who said they didn't like it, but I guess we all have our own preferences. This song is pure fire.

Album name (42,949) by Musti from UK
Mariah said it comes from a personal possession of hers that she's had almost all her life. I was tempted to think it is Marylin Monroe related but she only acquired the piano in 1999. And now in the new Observer interview she mentions having a hefty Monroe biography when she was a child. And she talks about her in almost half the interview. Hmmm.

YME / postponement / whatever (42,857) by Musti from UK
A big yay to YME for reaching #2 on the Dance Club Songs chart. I really hope it hits #1 next week. In all honesty I was devastated when I first heard that the album was removed from release schedules. I don't think that necessarily means it's not coming out on May 6th. After all these "news" all come from gossip blogs. No one from Mariah's camp has confirmed a push-back and it's quite curious that no one is commenting on May 6th in particular, only saying it's definitely coming out in May. I wouldn't mind another week's delay or two. That JD interview has practically confirmed my suspicions that a new single will be released before the album. Or perhaps Mariah's camp are planning to release the new single and its video the same week as the album, hoping that album sales will push the single to #1. However one thing I'm sure of is that all this agitation from lambs (in particular the lamb that lashed out at JD on twitter) is creating nothing but bad publicity for Mariah, and perhaps even ruining her promo plans for the album. I hope everyone would just relax. One way or another the album will come out.

Farewell? (42,579) by Musti from UK
Ok so plenty of you have mentioned that this might be her last album; the "R" word that's giving all of us nightmares. Adam, I agree that the time she has taken to complete this album and the fact that she herself said "if this were my last album" might indicate the end is here. However, I also believe the stakes are quite high for her this time round. The last time she really rushed an album was Rainbow, and that was partly to record enough albums to satisfy her contract with Sony quickly. This time it's quite the opposite. With all this speculation that she has lost her voice and that her songwriting skills have gone dry, her contract with Def Jam expiring, her own lambily constantly criticising and doubting her, no wonder she wants to work this album to perfection. Part of the reason why Mariah is so real is the insecurities she has acquired throughout her life, so all this jibberish probably makes her want to work harder to make sure this album is a success. Not to mention she probably wants to make sure she can secure a nice record deal too after she leaves Def Jam. I don't think this is farewell. And even if it is, I wish we could all stop focusing on goodbyes and instead welcome the new album that is now less than 1 month away.

New album (42,468) by Musti from UK
I think it's safe to say that the album is coming out on May 6th. Otherwise she wouldn't have offered details about the album to the DJs from all around the US and confirm the release date. I actually like that there's a lot of secrecy surrounding the album. Please note that not even the DJs got to hear any new music from the album yesterday. Do we really need to remind ourself of the "Beyonce effect"? Clearly it works. Considering overall shrinking album sales, Beyonce's album sold thousands in a few hours as if it was running off somewhere. Mariah has always liked to give her lambs bits of information, like announcing the name of Thirsty. And perhaps she felt like she owed her lambily a release date, given the number of delays this album has gone through already. Other than that I'm quite happy with the way things are moving. I still believe there will be a new single a week or two before the album itself. But again, all hush hush for the moment. Have faith people. With or without a new single, the album is coming.

Carlos Jaramillo (42,360) by Musti from UK
Wow you must really love Outside. It's definitely one of her best songs ever. So heartfelt. Everytime I listen to it I find myself back in my room as a teenager, reading and singing along to the lyrics. I hardly listen to it now, it brings back a lot of painful memories. Like you said I'm sure a lot of other fans that felt different connected to that song similarly - multiracial, homosexual, etc. Especially since those issues still classified people as outsiders in the 90s (not that they still aren't now today). But you're right, the song speaks to anyone who feels different, like an outsider and like something's supposed to be wrong with that. She is living proof that being an outsider makes us better somehow.

First time with Mariah (42,344) by Musti from UK
I never really knew about Mariah or her songs, even though I had seen posters of Daydream everywhere and kept wondering who on earth this woman is. I was 13 when I was paying my weekly visit to the music store when I saw Butterfly sitting on the shelf. I remember having a good stare at the cover for a few minutes and thinking "she looks so beautiful". I bought it and went straight home. I remember being overwhelmed by the plethora of sounds and the complexity of her vocals. Fourth Of July was my first favoruite. The way she streched each word into a thousand possibilities and a rollercoaster of emotions just triggered something in me. Then I met Outside, and my life changed. For a few years I woke up, slept, ate, cried and smiled to that song everyday. She was better than a best friend and I couldn't understand how that was possible. She helped me understand myself and face the world despite all my fears. Just imagine how psyched I was when I found out we were born on the same day. Happy birthday to me and Mariah. Long live the queen.

I agree, it is entirely up to IDJ. I bet they regret not releasing the album on 7.23 when #Beautiful was still fairly popular, as YME hasn't had the desired effect. I think Mariah hasn't been happy with IDJ since E=MC2, with Migrate not being relased and all. Especially after Memoirs I think Mariah has been just dying to get the hell out of there. Perhaps that's why she released MCIIY when she did because you're not really expected to produce hits out of a Christmas album so she treated it like a "filler" album. I'm not calling the album itself a filler. Only in relation to the number of albums she has left under her contract. If this is her last album with IDJ, I'm sure they want her to cash in big bucks before she leaves. It must be clear to them at this stage that she is leaving after this album. I just hope they don't push her to do things she doesn't want to do just so she can get a hit.

Album covers (42,238) by Musti from UK
My top 2. Best:
#1's - Is it just me or does her posture itself here looks like the number 1, with her right arm sticking out? In any event, there is so much confidence and beauty in that photo.
Butterfly - Especially the cover on the limited Japanese edition, which is the photo featured at the back on the regular version. That's what I call emancipation.
Worst:
Glitter - I'm not even sure what it is. Maybe too much glitter?
Memoirs - Way too much boobage for my taste.

Kelly Price (42,172) by Musti from UK
I am appalled by that video. How ungrateful can someone get? I agree with Nikki that if Mariah freaked out at all it was probably because of a short notice issue. Although Mariah's background vocalists have to be very talented, none of them are irreplaceable other than Mariah herself. How dare she talk like that about someone who gave her a chance? Did you all notice she said "then I met Puff Daddy"? Ummm Kelly was still Mariah's background vocalist on the Butterfly album. I wonder whether she met Diddy herself or Mariah introduced her to him after they produced Honey together. Again, how ungrateful. The fact that she would bring up a sensitive issue like Mariah's voice only shows how desperate she is to draw attention to herself and her bland material. Peace.
