About Musti from UK:

Subtle changes (42,128) by Musti from UK
I've read some of the comments regarding the new album and the direction Mariah should take. Mariah has been making music for a very long time, she doesn't need to change her musical direction drastically at this stage. But I do think a couple of indie/alternative inspired songs might work wonders in changing people's opinions about her music. I would also like a few electro R&B songs on there. But not EDM, she's too good for that. More importantly she should to make a few subtle changes that would surprise people. Like showing the left side of her face on the album cover, something she has only done on Emotions. Also ditch the font that she has used on her CDs since forever. Maybe the colours too. Ditch brown, black or pink-yet-lavender. I do love her long hair but not when she puts in endless extensions and looks like a lioness. Oh and also anything that is ultra camp, like covering herself up in glitter in YME. I love what she stands for - an all powerful singer and business woman who is girlier than a teenage girl with pink Barbie dolls. She has never had to "man it up" like Beyonce or Rihanna to be a strong woman. But unfortunately people don't seem to get that and they continue to see her like a ditzy daisy. And of course the way she's been behaving in her interviews lately doesn't help that cause either. However even is she doesn't change anything, I am and will always be here for the music and will continue to support her even after she retires.

RadChad and Tina (42,109) by Musti from UK
I completely agree with both of you. I think there's a tendency with lambs to compare and bring on the hate on every singer that can get anywhere near the high C. Mariah can pop that out of her back pocket anytime and then some. More than anything Mariah is her own artist and above all a songwriter, almost completely true to her own sound and vocals right from the start. Yes we have all seen Beyonce, Christina Aguilera, Jessica Simpson, Leona Lewis and now Ariana being hailed as the new Mariah. Eveyone knows there can be no other (new, old or intermediate) Mariah than Mariah herself. Out of all the mini Mariahs we have witnessed I think Ariana is the only one so far who sounds like Mariah yet sounds like herself at the same time. I do feel her songs. So I think everyone needs to cut her some slack. And yes I think we should all be proud that even after 25 years of being in this business Mariah still has the power to influence new artists, so much that they would release an album full of Mariah-like songs.

Lee (42,084) by Musti from UK
I agree. I think Ariana is very talented. She's still very young and is bound to find her own voice and style in one or two more albums (remember when Christina broke free with Stipped?). And to be honest I do think her album has been shaped to sound like Mariah. When you're just breaking onto the music scene it helps to be compared to a living legend. And guess what, it worked. She got her name out there and her album debuted at #1. She doesn't possess the maturity of Mariah's tone when Mariah arrived with her first album, nor her massive range. But Ariana is definitely a fresh breath of air in today's music world of Rihannas and other similar entertainers, as opposed to real singers. Of course I don't like that she's being called the "new Mariah". It does threaten Mariah's popularity with younger generations. Though the flipside also means young kids who might not know about Mariah will get to hear about her through these comparisons and take up her discography should they wish.

Pajama pic (41,994) by Musti from UK
I love the new pajama pic in the studio. She looks so happy. I have utmost faith in Mariah's gift. Whether she has another hit or not is totally irrelevant to me. There's a reason why I've been a hardcore fan for so many years. Her voice and her music do it like no other. She is music. The countdown to this album is such a torture.

Carly, other talented singers (41,733) by Musti from UK
I agree Mariah used to be much more humble. It's understandable that she has to paint a certain image of herself in the media to keep up the buzz i.e. crazy sexy diva. But she sounds like she feels threatened by other talented singers, especially females. She had an awkward moment with Michael Buble before they sang AIWFCIY. She loves Beyonce, but she hasn't heard Drunk In Love. Plus she could've said something much better about Ariana. Ariana might sound a lot like her (probably because she has to so that she could make a decent debut), but no one can deny the girl is talented. I would love to see Mariah and Celine unite forces on a duet to honour Whitney. That would be a landmark move in both their careers, hands down. But it seems Mariah only likes to collaborate with male singers/rappers. Perhaps Nicki Minaj is to blame? Still, it shouldn't be hard for Mariah to give compliments when they are due.

You're Mine / album / new single (41,555) by Musti from UK
John, I agree that Mariah really wants to have another #1. She's proud of her #1's. In my opinion You're Mine had a great shot at hitting at least top 20. It's Mariah at her best in a really charming and radio-friendly song. I truly believe it's the video that destroyed its chances at being a hit. Similar to the disaster that was the #Beautiful video. She is just not good at vanity. Nevertheless the music is still perfect. All the songs she has released since MCIIYou show a different side of her as a singer and songwriter. She even managed to make an anthem out of a simple song like Bring It On Home. The way she soars at the end is to die for. I think the album's release date of May 6th is quite convenient. Perhaps IDJ tested the waters with YM. Seeing how it has underperformed I wouldn't be surprised if it gets the "Valentine's Day single" treatment (like Glitter got the soundtrack treatment) and they move forward with a new single before the album comes out. She's been giving major love to Hitboy lately. Anyone feeling thirsty?

You're Mine (41,223) by Musti from UK
This is one of the most beautiful songs she has ever written. In terms of structure it is a little reminiscent of WBT, especially the breakdown at the end. But it doesn't sound like WBT or any other song she has written. This is fresh. Some fans aren't happy about the whispery parts. In my opinion they are the most emotive parts of this song as her voice blends with the sounds in the background. I must say I'm impressed with Rodney Jerkins too. I was beginning to think his glory days were long behind him, and then he does this song. Amazing. I don't care much for the video, except for the ending. I like its gloomy feel like her Butterfly era videos, and she makes a perfect mermaid. But there was no need to go topless. She could have done a lot more than simply trying to cover her bare breasts all the time. This could have been her moment to pull off Ariel in her underwater castle. Regardless, I can't imagine a better comeback song for her - a slow jam torch that sits perfectly with her current voice.

UK Lambs (40,709) by Musti from UK
I've never arranged anything like this but if anyone needs help I'd be happy to contribute. Let's make this happen!

Colin / RadChad (40,654) by Musti from UK
Colin, I think it would be great to put together an event for the UK lambs. I wonder who organised them before. I've never been to one. I would love to connect with other lambs in the UK. RadChad, I haven't heard about the rumour but it sounds very exciting. I think a Whitney cover is a must and she can easily turn You Give Good Love into a Mariah number (as a tribute, of course). But Lullaby to Birdland? Wow! She has always said Sarah Vaughan is an influence and Sarah practically owns that song. I hope it's true. Btw did you guys know Sarah Vaughan was also born on March 27th (1924)? They are simply connected.

Re: UK lambs (40,629) by Musti from UK
I have never met another lamb in the UK. Actually I never met anyone in the UK who is remotely into Mariah lol. Everytime I mention her name people look at me like I'm crazy. Then I tell them I'm really into singers with big voices. That seems to shut them up!

New collaboration (40,617) by Musti from UK
I can't wait to find out more about this. It can be Usher indeed. It can also be Justin Timberlake whom Mariah worked with for a remix of Yours which was never released.

When I Saw You (40,449) by Musti from UK
I never really liked that song lol find it quite boring actually. I could definitely see it cut out of the album, though I'm not sure Slipping Away is polished enough to be included the album. I recall Mariah mentioning a song allegedly called Crave that she wrote for Daydream which was left out of the album for being too sexy. She later named her first record label Crave. But I would love to hear the song Crave as it's probably one of Mariah's first attempts at a sexy jam before writing songs like Babydoll and Bliss.

Bryant (40,295) by Musti from UK
I completely agree. This is the longest break she has ever taken. I do feel that, had she not had dem babies, she would've dropped a new album in 2012. It really is in her blood to stay on the charts. It was funny when she mentioned Hit-Boy in her last interview, hinting that we can expect a hit soon lol. No matter what she says, she really does care about her chart stats. And I don't think anyone can blame her for that, now that she's so close to beating the Beatles and Rihanna has just scored her 13th number 1. With or without hits though, I think Mariah will continue to make music until she can no longer sing. She was simply born to sing.

Mariah / Beyonce / Celine (40,249) by Musti from UK
At the risk of getting bashed by lambs for discussing Beyonce and Celine, I want to say I love both their new albums. Beyonce has been very bold both for not previously announcing the album and for the songs she has put on there. Someone said earlier that there are no solid songs on her album. I agree. But I think Beyonce is just as bored of the EDM era as Mariah and she's playing around with new ideas. She has multiple musical premises in a single song (perhaps similar to Mariah's move with TAOLG?) and she has hardly belted on any song, instead focusing on her lower range and light higher notes. It's definitely a concept album and sounds more like electronic r&b than anything else. Both Mariah and Beyonce are pioneers and I believe in what they're trying to do. As for Celine, granted her album isn't a drastic move from her previous albums by any measure, but I think she practically nailed her first attempt at r&b (Incredible and Overjoyed). Also I like that the overall tessitura of the new album is lower than her previous work. It's not only Mariah that doesn't belt like she used to! With these new releases, I'm getting more and more excited about Mariah's album. She is a genuis and I'm sure she will deliver like one.

TAOLG (39,752) by Musti from UK
I think this is a great artistic direction for her. The last part sounds like it's right out of a musical, it's so powerful. As someone else said earlier, Mariah is a storyteller in this song, the song itself barely has a recognizable chorus. In terms of style it slightly reminds me of Betcha Gon Know but TAOLG is obviously much more monumental, both musically and lyrically. Perhaps she has finally let go of releasing radio friendly singles geared towards teenagers. She has done that for 20+ years, I would be happy if she has finally evolved out of that loop. Now it's time to make legendary music.

Teaser (39,559) by Musti from UK
Wow that teaser is epic! It sounds quite operatic, which is something I have always wanted Mariah to do. Angel Prelude and even the very beginning to of Migrate give us a little bit of her operatic roots, but obviously neither of them are orchestral pieces. I have a feeling that what we hear in the teaser will be an interlude/intro to the song itself. Nevertheless I'm loving it. The sound really suits her. If this teaser is any indication as to what the album will be like, it might just be her best album since Butterfly. I cannot wait!

JD as Mariah's manager (39,388) by Musti from UK
First of all JD, did not write AIWFCIY. He only remixed it in 2000. So that part of the news is incorrect. Secondly, this might possibly be the worst Mariah related news ever if it means that we'll be getting more and more WBT part 2's for the rest of Mariah's contract with him. His sound and creativity have been completely exhausted. However JD has also been in the music business for a long time and probably has invaluable connections, which might in fact work to Mariah's advantage when it comes to promo. My feelings about this news are seriously mixed at the moment. I hope we receive a confirmation from Mariah's camp soon.

ObscureOpulence (39,249) by Musti from UK
You make a very interesting point regarding a potential Christmas album in 2000. I never really believed Mariah wrote the Grinch song for herself. But she did re-release All I Want For Christmas Is You in Japan in 2000 including a new So So Def Remix and O Holy Night 2000 Live Version (which is now on MCIIYou). Perhaps MCIIYou as a concept was first conceived in that era and some work was done, but Mariah preferred to focus on Glitter in the end.

Celine / favourite performance (39,228) by Musti from UK
I don't see why a Celine single cannot be discussed on here. She may not be as good and unique as Mariah, but she is still one of the top 3 best singers to emerge since the days of opera and jazz. Plus their careers ran alongside each other. Celine and Mariah are friends indeed and in fact Celine mentioned only last year that she would like to do a song with Mariah. I truly hope that happens someday! I don't have a single favourite live performance. You simply can't. But I always go back to Fly Like A Bird at the Grammys. Standing O!

Music Box (39,169) by Musti from UK
I really liked Billboard's review of Music Box. There's respect written all over it. I agree that All I Ever Wanted is the albums weakest moment and should have been replaced with Everything Fades Away, which arguably is the best song (not) on the album lol. I've also always loved Music Box the song, nice to see Billboard acknowledging it. However I don't agree with Never Forget You. It's a beautiful song, vocally and musically. Both the album version and the remix are equally beautiful.

Favourite albums (39,091) by Musti from UK
1990s
1. Butterfly - My all time fave. Undeniably a masterpiece, no further words needed.
2. Daydream - Even after nearly 20 years this album still sounds fresher than anything out there today. Mariah at the peak of her vocal agility.
3. Rainbow - Although this album was very rushed, I've always preferred Mariah's R&B sound to her AC sound. Bliss, Heartbreaker, Crybaby, etc. are amazing tracks.
2000s
1. E=MC2 - This album had the potential to score a series of top 10 singles. Amazing production and supreme level of interpretation of each song.
2. Glitter - her most underrated album ever. She managed to give an updated sound to 80 music and it fit her voice perfectly. Twister, All My Life, Don't Stop, Lead the Way, the whole album.
3. Merry Christmas II You - I can't wait untill Christmas every year to listen to this album. I even listen to it in summer. Magical sounds, magical voice.

Brad / Dionne005 / Zachary (38,983) by Musti from UK
I don't think Brad suggested Mariah hurt herself deliberately. I do see his point in that by the time Mariah began to shoot the remix video, #Beautiful had already started to decline both in airplay and sales and it was highly unlikely that a new video of yet another remix was going to push the song into the top 10. The video ended up being a wasted effort and I guess it just wasn't meant to happen in the end. I also agree that it wouldn't be a smart move to compete with Katy or Gaga as they both have selling power. It would be great to see Mariah top the Billboard 200 again and those 2 ladies would seriously jeopardise that. But I also understand that she needs to be in good shape and fully recovered before she releases anything new and starts promoting.

Brandon / Ariana Grande (38,838) by Musti from UK
I just watched Ariana's cover of Emotions on YouTube lol. It sounds like karaoke. Her high notes are impressive, I didn't think she could go that high. But she imitates Mariah's style far too much. Her song The Way is catchy, but it sounds like a desparate attempt at recreating a Mariah/JD moment. She's only 20 and I'm sure she idolised Mariah growing up. But unless she finds her own voice, she won't go too far.

Looking In / PJW (38,704) by Musti from UK
I am so happy she performed Looking In. That song is one of those incredibly heartbreaking songs (along with Twister) that I can never listen to because I simply can't stop crying when I do. I felt every second of that performance. Her falsetto is so on point and you can tell that's her comfort zone. PJW, I don't think Mariah will ever admit that her voice has changed, and with good reason. There was a time when it was expected that singers' voices would change as they age. History is filled with opera singers who took on different roles throughout their careers that suit their voices at different stages of their vocal development. Now that's almost considered as a taboo. Well it's still reality and one's voice does age. Mariah is constantly under attack for her live performances because she set the standard so high in the 90s. Just imagine how people would count her out immediately if she was ever to admit her voice has changed. But whether the world likes it or not, Mariah is still human and her voice will continue to change.
