The vault (95,850)
by Terna from Nigeria
| |

This vault is a gift that keeps giving. With the recent revelations of the alternative album from '95, one has to wonder what else has she got in store, because that was totally unexpected. Wow who is this woman? Lol. The Lambs have already coined another term "Rockriah". Haha. Honestly, the only thing good about this year has been the Mariah Carey treats and rarities she's been giving us. I just had a random thought - what if this culminates with a separate The Rarities but for Christmas, songs recorded (both originals and traditional covers) that didn't make the final cut on the original "Merry Christmas" CD.

The Oprah interview (95,788)
by Terna from Nigeria
| |
|
|
What an eye opener. I wasn't ready for all the revelations that were made, the way she describes her mother's personality as "beauty and the beast" all wrapped up in one being was just disturbing. The apparent resentment and envy from all 3 just makes me sick to my stomach. This woman has been through hell emotionally, from a very young age. She's never really experienced that stability and security most of us as kids had growing up, it's been a tupsy turvy kinda ride for her. And then there was Tommy a second wave of emotional turmoil and abuse, the way she describes that time in her life, made me realize Mariah could've easily ended up kinda like Britney Spears today with absolutely no soul, nor control over anything to do with her career or even her personal life. What I take from this interview and the few things discussed is that she is a destiny child that apparently had a special calling and so the devil attacked her very early on and is still relentless until this very day, but in as much as all that was happening God was and still is with her. The story about Leontyne Price made me really emotional, but I also realize that even those considered legends that came before her could recognize that this woman is something special, she is indeed the one. Aretha Franklin was another one who saw it. Those words "treated me kind, sweet destiny" resound ever so true, there's a higher power involved when it comes to Mariah Carey. Towards the end of the interview I got an epiphany of some sort - the last line from Whitney Houston's "I didn't know my own strength" is how I feel about Mariah, "I was not built to break, I got to know my own strength".

I've only watched clips on social media and that part was really shocking. What kind of sister is Alison? Damn. She really does have a dysfunctional family and toxic siblings. This book is gonna ruffle a lot of feathers.

How did I not see this before? The blatant disrespect. It's no wonder the show ended abruptly. They were savage, no one was safe. Haha. I know she had something to do with that.

You're welcome. I actually just heard Mariah's cover in full and I kinda like it, probably because I already know the song and like it but also acknowledge that it doesn't even come close to the original version, it lacks the conviction, energy and build up (Mariah's version also seems slower in tempo) especially towards the end and that's ok because how do you cover and match the original introduction of this song by a stellar vocalist like Irene Cara in a once in a lifetime performance.

Out Here On My Own (95,582)
by Terna from Nigeria

This song is one of the songs I loved with the very first [listen]. Its [power] cannot truly, fully be described. I watched "Fame" for the first time back in 1998 and that scene where Irene sings it in one take for me was an otherworldly experience and honestly froze time if only just for a split second, I was totally engaged and overwhelmed by that scene hearing every word crystal clear. Who was this girl that reminded me so much of Mariah even down to her tone, clarity, and the power in her voice? Secondly why wasn't she a huge star? I immediately recorded the movie so I could play it repeatedly and learn it. Who knew this song had inspired Mariah in the exact same way years prior. Wow.

The Rarities tracklistings (95,471)
by Terna from Nigeria
| |
|
|
I'm kinda shocked that with all the investigations we did, we still got it wrong. Lol. Being an avid Lamb like I know most of us here are I still never heard of tracks like "All I Live For", "One Night", "Can You Hear Me" and "Cool On You" (I hope this isn't one of Jermaine's because if I hear one more "Y'all Know what this is"). Anyways, I am really excited for this record although we could've been fine without "Everything Fades Away" and "Do you think of Me" instead replacing them with "Into The Light" and "Alive" or Even "Skydiving". Like most Lambs I'm most stoked for the original "Loverboy" version JLo stole. Hehe.

When I saw 9. Loverboy (Original Firecracker version) I burst out laughing, that's so extra and shady almost like she's saying "Original Firecracker version that Jlo and Tommy stole from me and foiled me in the process". Haha.

In my opinion that would be "Vision Of Love" easily. A perfect debut song accompanied by a killer vocal performance, with a unique message about realizing a dream and finding her purpose and destiny. When it comes on in a playlist it's always a breath of fresh air.

My spirits were brought down this morning, logging into social media to see this news, it was the first thing I saw actually. It's funny how these celebrities who are under the spotlight for the most part of their lives still go through stuff like this suffering in silence, to think he was already sick in [Black Panther], goes to show we really don't know and can't say looking from the outside in. May he rest in perfect peace.

Debut voice (95,241)
by Terna from Nigeria
| |
|
|
I think Mariah debuted with an instrument that was already compromised. If you listen to the first EP she released in celebration of MC30 her voice sounds constricted especially on the belts and she's singing with an obvious effort thus the heavy sighs at the end of every performance. And on the "Vanishing" performance at the 2:40 mark you can actually hear her clear her throat before the high belt and sustain mid song.

Google can be a little bit glitched sometimes. Lol. But it still is helpful, in enlightening those who are oblivious to that fact. In regards to Denise Williams' comment about Mariah's Instrument, first off I don't think there was any underlying malicious intent for her comment, but more from a singer's perspective, and yes I can agree to an extent on points she raised.

"Terna and We Are Lambily irritate the hell out of me with their 'Mariah has never done anything wrong; she's never even stepped on an ant.'" Neither of us are as you just described. We just choose to remain positive and give her our unconditional love 24/7, unapologetically while making a conscious effort not to judge nor jump to conclusions without weighing the facts first.

Lol, after all the how many weeks at number one on pre-orders alone. Only to find out the Tokyo concert is actually all the lock-down concerts she's been having with Roc & Roe with one audience member - Tanaka. Haha. I would have a field day laughing at Bill. Better don't give her any ideas. We all know by now she's on this message board. Hehe.

Save the Day (95,063)
by Terna from Nigeria
| |
|
|
A clip of it leaked on Instagram yesterday and I thought it was something made up by the Lambily in anticipation of the actual record. Turns out it was legit but just a snippet. Now that I've heard it in its entirety, I can see why it was left in the vault, I feel like that sample works, up until the "lalala" part towards the end where you unconsciously just want to go "strumming my pain" lol. That's testament to Lauryn's talent, and the identity of that original sample. Records like that are very hard to sample and make your own. Mariah gets points for taking such a distinctive record and crafting one with a different facet both lyrically and melodically.

Rarities / GMA (94,988)

It's such an exciting time to be a Mariah Carey fan right now. This new compilation "The Rarities" is just what the Lambily and the rest of the world needs right now. I followed the link to Amazon music and there [are] so many tracks. Such a treat Watching her perform "Vision of Love" a song she's sung a million times and still inject new life into its interpretation was a breath of fresh air.

A visual from the "Daydream" era making it out for the first time in 2020, 25 years later in the Vevo/streaming era might just be what Mariah needs to tie that 20th Billboard number 1 Beatles record. This is so crazy in a very good mind boggling way. Like who is this woman?
