About Terna from Nigeria: Fan since 1998 - The "Butterfly" Era. Fave Era - The Emancipation of Mimi, watching her break that Night was Everything.

Re: The last karaoke (88,945) (88,954) by Terna from Nigeria
Never said she did, we're fans we know very well that's Brenda's song, that wasn't the point I was trying to make. "Bye bye" is a beautifully written and beautifully sung ballad, you may not like it, but personally I have met many people who aren't into Mariah's music that love that song especially the younger generation.

PS: Calling some of her most profound songs "crap" just makes you come across as unstable and in need of a psych evaluation. Take that negative energy somewhere else.

So [are] we just [going to] throw away "Through the Rain", "Bye Bye", "Mariah's Theme", "Lead The Way" "When You Believe", "Never Too Far", "I Still Believe", "Right to Dream", "Angel's Cry", "Supernatural" and a bevy of other [ballads] she's written and recorded after Butterfly?

Re: Daydream (88,865) (88,937) by Terna from Nigeria
The lack of her usual punch vocally is what turns me off Daydream. I still like the album, but for me there's always been this unsettling feeling as if she's singing with a diminished voice and also singing noticeably outside of her natural range with a little bit of effort. The vocal growls and gritty delivery is totally non existent it's just all resonance and airy girlie cooing. Maybe that's the mood she wanted to go for after all it is titled "Daydream". Lol. Best song to me was and still is "Melt Away" because after that bridge she said [censored] it and unleashed a power belt. And also snuck in some whistle notes.

Re: Fly Like a Bird acapella (88,805) (88,855) by Terna from Nigeria
Glad you like it. "Fly Like a Bird" is also one of my absolute favorites off "The Emancipation of Mimi", and in my opinion one of her most powerful vocal performances ever.

A No No video (88,394) by Terna from Nigeria
The Caution train has begun moving. I love the retro 80's inspired feel of the video and those whistle tones popped up outta nowhere. Lol. I wasn't expecting that. Dem kids look so adorable too. All in all it's an enhancement to a bop that was already popping.

Re: Butterfly (87,940) (87,968) by Terna from Nigeria
Interesting post but I don't agree with your analysis of the Butterfly album and era at all. If anything it's rather the opposite of what you're insinuating here. Mariah's early years were so controlled, doctored and supervised so to speak to a fault that I remember her saying that she was even instructed on how to speak in her interviews without giving away too much personality - in other words she couldn't be herself. How stifling that must've been. Even her sound was controlled in order to sound like a new Whitney Houston so to speak (especially on the first album). Her hair, ensembles and the whole Mariah Carey image at the beginning really wasn't the real Mariah at all. I applaud Mariah for rebelling and insisting on carving out her own path and most importantly following her Heart. Both "Daydream" and "Butterfly" are truly the real Mariah, and her core as an artist as she has remained the same pretty much ever since. I'm just glad that we have those two albums as a snapshot of the transition in a time when Mariah dared to be different and go against the tide, being so young with so much uncertainty. So there's nothing fake nor pretentious about that album as you implied if anything that's her true emancipation. She must be very proud looking back now as we her true Lambily are too. The "Butterfly" era is Mariah's "Magnum Opus", it is also where her longevity and relevance in this cutthroat music industry years to come was sealed.

Re: Random thoughts (87,630) (87,660) by Terna from Nigeria
I love your point of view on Stella and her reign of terror. I too was one of those who did not judge her off just photos alone, it was too early for that. I was waiting for her to prove herself managing Mariah, something she didn't live up to and everything went south from there. However, I don't agree with you on the Brett Ratner statement that he doesn't make good videos for Mariah. That's simply not true, "The Emancipation Of Mimi" era alone had him to thank for some of her best videos up to that point. He also directed "Touch My Body" which basically saved that era and I dare say it's up there with "Honey" in terms of quality.

Re: SWHOF (87,556) (87,567) by Terna from Nigeria
You should also take into consideration that Mariah hasn't really written for others as much as Missy Misdemeanor has. Missy has a wide spectrum of artists she's written and produced for in more genres than Mariah has, so yes I think Missy deserved it more this go around. Mariah definitely would get inducted too just not this year.

GTFO - instant classic (87,468) by Terna from Nigeria
Honestly, I feel like GTFO is the strongest track on the new album, and should've been the first single. This song just draws you in and it has repeat value, I find it a breath of fresh air every time it comes on unexpectedly. Now that I have listened to "Caution" in its entirety, I can honestly say that "GTFO" is my favorite out of all 10 songs. My top three songs from "Caution" are:
1. GTFO
2. The Distance Feat. Ty Dollar Sign
3. 8th Grade

Oh yes I did and just like yours it's just an opinion - my opinion, nothing to get worked up over. No one is trying to "mock" Minnie. I personally love most of her songs and enjoy them immensely. However, I call it as I see it. Happy holidays.

Re: Ugh Ariana (87,086) (87,092) by Terna from Nigeria
Half of Minnie's Whistle register placement in her recordings sound gimmicky, random and borderline cringe worthy ("Expecting"). Minnie used to incorporate whistle tones just because she could. With Mariah however, they are creatively placed as embellishments in a song ("Butterfly", "When you believe"), as an expressive tool during a climax ("Anytime you need a friend", "Vision of Love") or as ad libs in a chorus ("Melt away", "Joy Ride", "I Want to Know What Love is") to name a few of the creative ways she's used that register without it ever sounding gimmicky, annoying nor cringe worthy. So it's safe to say Mariah's the queen of the whistle register.

I still recall that epic dragging you gave him for "getting wiggy" with it around this time last year. Damn K, you keep this up and it will become Christmas tradition on here. Haha. Alexa, play "Giving Me Life" by Mariah Carey.

Lol. Like really? I love (all caps) "One Mo 'Gen" it's like top three favorite after "GTFO" and "8th Grade". Haha.

Oh wow, I love that you love this song. It's also my favorite jam and the one that made me go "oh yeah, this album is complete", kinda like how I did when "Joy Ride" came on from "The Emancipation of Mimi". Lol.

Re: Music Box v. Daydream v. Merry Christmas (86,721) (86,764) by Terna from Nigeria
For me the more Mariah created more music from her first album, the more her voice kept changing and losing it's rich, buttery dark qualities. So yeah the vocals on "Music Box" and "Merry Christmas" easily trump those on Daydream (that's not to say her voice isn't astounding on Daydream) but the diminished state is quite apparent by the Daydream LP. Her voice issues stem from the Daydream era. That back to back recording and excessive touring couldn't have been healthy on any singer especially after just wrapping up the [...] and Merry Christmas eras (where she also toured) and it caused the damage we hear on Butterfly. I must say Mariah's instrument is the most resilient of any singer I've ever heard, she's never had to cancel as a result of irreparable damage like Adele or Christina have in the past. Even on a cold she has many times taken the stage, performed and blown us away. That's a powerful instrument she's got.

Re: Robert Anthony (86,105) (86,195) by Terna from Nigeria
I totally get you it fell flat for me as the title seemed so mysterious. I was expecting a Mariahesque slow jam or ballad instead of this repetitive annoying sound she's making on this record. Anyway "Runway" totally made up for that misstep.

Runway (86,132) by Terna from Nigeria
Ok I'm convinced Mariah loves and cherishes her Asian fans much more because this song is everything. Wow, It really completes this album and leaves a bright hopeful feeling as the official album closer "Portrait" leaves this dark uncertain feeling that left me bothered, but with lyrics like "let love be your runway" and those whistles and belts at the end, one word - euphoric put a big smile on my face. God I love this woman.

Re: Caution (85,998) (86,030) by Terna from Nigeria
Seriously? Haha. And here I am thinking the opposite. With the first Listen I couldn't wait for the song to finish. That hook she sings over and over again gets on my nerves. Lol it's the only song I don't like.
