I think she could release that album with the voice she has today, if she doesn't whisper. I do believe her vocals would fit that kind of music.

Mariah's priorities (111,255)
by TJ from Norway
| |
|
|
I do agree about parenting your kids to not swear while talking, as I [too] think it's not necessary to use those words. Did you grow up in a society where there was warnings on movies, albums and so on? I did not. I see the parenting guidance on the different tv series and stuff on Netflix etc, and I'm thinking this has to be a result of the worst generation ever when thinking of parenting. Generation X. We are helicoptering, stuff pillows under their arms (actually mattresses) and trying to protect them in ways that makes them incredibly insecure and not capable to handle normal problems in life. I'm not saying that you're one of those, because I really do believe you're not, but I see the parents of Generation X are often doing that.
I think kids at home, and kids away from their parents can be totally different personalities and behave so differently that a lot of the parents would be shocked. Even in religious communities.
Mariah's kids, I hope get the protecting they need, because I've said from day one that I hoped they would grow up away from fame and the public life she's living.
Sadly this is not my first language, and I hope I made a point here. Peace and love.

Mariah's priorities (111,250)
by Stacey from USA

I am glad we have warnings. As a mom to three kids (17, 14, 12), I don't want my children thinking those words are acceptable in their daily language. Swear words lack credibility with me. Just so unnecessary, IMHO. Sure my kids are exposed to them daily in school. I teach them to avoid using those words. My hope is that they will use them sparingly like me, lol.

Mariah's priorities (111,244)
by TJ from Norway
| |
|

Does an album need a warning because of the words? I went to watch the Book of Mormons in Oslo this weekend, and on the row behind me there was was a family with young kids watching and obviously listening. I guess the parents were quite embarrassed. I'm so glad we usually don't have warnings because of scenes or choice of the words, because, believe me, they already know them.

I've broken my own rule and listened to the HFIA snippet multiple times. The sh$% word is so unnecessary. The album doesn't have the warning, explicit lyrics like MIAM did. I think it may be edited on the album version but allowed on the digital single. But man, I am loving those lyrics. So deep.

Eh. A bit disappointed this much hyped track contains profanity. It's so low rent and, as you say, no need for it. That's put a bit of a dampener on it for me sadly.

by Edward from USA

Mariah didn't break her shoulder, it was dislocated, which is a whole different thing. The doctors popped it back in, and with time it healed. She also cracked a rib. I bring this up because some fans love to rewrite history. Sure, maybe she doesn't have the same range of motion now, or maybe she's just being careful, who wouldn't be? But I don't think that old injury has anything to do with where she's at mentally today.
Back then, she actually sang beautifully with that jeweled arm brace, and once she healed, she was fine. Things really started going downhill during Contourella's reign of terror. With her fake "empower women" nonsense, she convinced Mariah it was okay to act out and even let herself be photographed in humiliating situations. She was also the mastermind behind Mariah blaming promoters and "outside forces" after the New Year's Eve mess in 2016. That whole period left scars. And while Mariah was clearly manipulated, she wasn't completely innocent in it either, which makes it even sadder. She hasn't been the same since. Contourella basically walled her off and inserted herself into every part of her life right when Mariah was at her most vulnerable.
What really gets me is when infantilize a 56-year-old to avoid holding her accountable for her choices and actions. Yes, she deserves lots of compassion and people around her who actually care, real friends who'll be honest, not just hype her up or leech off her. Even fans who used to deny it can see now that something's not right.
It reminds me of Whitney's last tour. You just know people in her camp were saying, "You sound amazing, go on tour," when she was clearly struggling. That kind of denial is dangerous, and it feels like Mariah's being pushed down that same path.

Why the dislike? (111,126)
by TJ from Norway

Thank God I Found You and Don't Forget About Us are such a snore-fest. They don't belong with the rest of the number ones. There are so many songs in Mariah's catalogue that should have reach the top spot, but didn't. These two are not the ones.

Why the dislike? (111,119)
by Edward from USA

It's not that I dislike "Thank God I Found You", I just don't really care for it. To me, it feels generic and overcrowded, almost as if Mariah was unsuccessfully trying to recreate the magic of "One Sweet Day". While I don't think it truly deserved the #1 spot, I can admit it's still a decent song. And no, I'd never compare it to Crapfinity, that one is in a league of hideous all on its own. Mariah had a golden chance to redeem that track with the "Why You Mad Remix", ft big names of the moment like Justin Bieber, French Montana, and T.I., yet somehow the result was even worse. On the flip side, the "Thank God I Found You (Make It Last Remix)" is fantastic, and I believe it played a huge role in pushing the original to the top of the charts.

KATSEYE (111,060)
by Mimi L. from Empower Your Highlighter
| |
|
|
KATSEYE was asked at the VMAs red carpet about their favorite Mariah song and none of them could name 1 song. Just 1 girl was like (My All) and the rest were like so confused and one girl asked the girl who named the song to give her a title as well. Now I don't know this group well, but apparently they're popular but for them not to know a single song by the legend that is Mariah Carey is insane. Like I don't expect them to know her full catalogue but if nothing else at least say AIWFCIY. And there are so many viral Mariah songs on TikTok. Also you're on a red carpet where she's winning a major award, you should have been more prepared to answer that question.

Jamie, what I don't get is why Mariah puts herself in those sky-high heels when she knows people will drag her for not moving. She could easily wear something more comfortable. Did you see the height of those heels? I don't see the point of wearing heels if you can't gracefully rock them.

But "Long ago" sounds more urban than "Slipping away". Anyway I think "Daydream" is pure perfection as it is. But it's interesting that "Open arms" seems to be a less favourite here. For me it's one of her best covers. It's on the top 5 for sure.

Her voice on Daydream is just like butter. Smooth, nuanced, powerful but never too showy. Daydream is pure perfection. In my humble opinion, "Butterfly" is her magnum opus though. That album could've been titled "Metamorphosis". When I saw Mariah on "Honey", so sexy and beutiful, for a moment I questioned my sexuality.

I just played it and it took me through a time warp to when I was a tween. When I first got Daydream, I mostly listened to it on my Walkman. I used to lay in bed for hours listening to it while reading the lyrics trying to learn them. Or staring at her face because she was the most beautiful girl to me. I wondered what it must feel like to be her. Like, to be that beautiful and be able to sing like that.
