The same here. I listen every day to my local radio station that plays the 70ies, 80ies and 90ies as well. The clone music is almost hurting my ears and boring. Lol.

Yes. Clones. That perfectly describes the music scene today. No distinct sounds. I listen to a local radio station that plays hits from the 70s, 80s, and 90s. What a diverse listening experience.

That sounds like a cool playlist. The 90ies really were so awesome. So many genres with great new artists, as well as the icons like Michael and Whitney. And Mariah who was the queen of Soul-Pop-RnB. Even the bubblegum pop was fun, at least a few songs. A carefree sound. And the great movies. I love the 90ies cinema.

I'm definitely in the 90s Mariah camp... and generally in the 90s camp for any musical artist/genre. I've been alternating between the 90s R&B, 90s Soft Rock, 90s Singer-Songwriter and 90s Alternative playlists on Apple Music as well as the 90s Pop Hits by year on there. It's fun to put the "1995 Pop Hits" playlist on and hear everything from Mariah and TLC to Hootie & the Blowfish and Sheryl Crow.

Have you heard about this? Three concerts are cancelled because of danger of terror in Vienna. I feel for those 200.000 people who just wanted to have a good time. I'm so sick of such news, every day. That's another reason why I miss the 90ies. You could go everywhere without having a bad feeling. It's such a shame what's going on nowadays. Sorry off topic, but I wanted to share this.

Yes, that made me wondering too. I was so excited for the "Butterfly lounge", such a cool title by the way. And nothing happened. I would prefer one good project (album) than 5 or 6 that we will never see.

New interview (107,151)
by Robert-Anthony from United States

I like when MC gives interviews especially when she mentions projects she is working on. However, why is it taking her so long to release any work of art that is new? What happened to Michaela Angela Davis and Lee Daniels helping MC turn her memoir into a limited tv series (2021-2022)? Now we hear from MC during this interview about creating a musical. (2024) Where is the Butterfly Lounge album? (2022) Where is the themed album? (2022) Where is the collaboration with Millie Bobby Brown? (2022) Where is the project that she said fans have been asking for her to do? (2023)
Do you see the point that I am making? That is seven projects including MC16 that have yet to see the light day since 2021.

Well, that's your opinion. And that's fine. But for my musical taste "You're mine" and "With you" are no typical ballads, just slow songs. "Trough the rain" is a ballad and even if it wasn't a huge hit, I love that song and "Portrait" too. Why should we fans have all the same taste? As I said, I understand you. You want something different. But Mariah isn't a legend because of "Caution" or because of new producers. She climbed the music olymp because of her soulful songs and up-tempos with her signature sound like "Dreamlover" and "Fantasy". I will stay excited for whatever will come next, but I still believe that a good ballad could chart nowadays. The world could need a good one more than ever. I listenend to Whitney's "One moment in time" today because of the olympics. Very uplifting.

Ballads don't chart anymore. You only named one artist, Adele, and she is a slight exception to the rule, but it's usually just her lead singles that are successful. Her follow up singles don't do much but she still quietly sells 30 million records. Other than Adele who else is charting with ballads? Everyone on the board always complains that she needs to do something new and work with new producers and now you are saying she should go back to only doing ballads. She never stopped doing ballads. Every time her labels try to launch her albums with ballads as lead singles they flop. [Through the rain], Your [sic] Mine, and [With you] are her signature ballad style and they flopped in the [States]. Also with Boys to Men [sic], [4 seasons of loneliness] was their lead single in 97. It went to number 1 after its second week and then disappeared. It was their last number one. All other follow up singles were ballads failed to hit number one. Their 2nd single peaked at number 7 and was their last top 10 hit. Those are facts. Portrait is another excellent example. Most people felt like it was out of place on Caution and didn't really care for it, but the Hopefull Child Remix is light years better and got a lot of love from the lambs.

"Ballads do not chart anymore." I don't think so. Adele's "Someone like you" or "Hello" are just two examples. The songs dominated the charts for weeks. If a song is outstanding it will work. No rappers and beats are needed. But a Disco Mariah would be cool. Like the new Rainbow mix.

Please no more ballads. Her discography has way too many as it is. Since the 2000s when they've tried to launch Mariah albums with a ballad and they all flopped (TTR, YM, and WY). Ballads do not chart anymore. People these days want bops, not ballads. They launched Caution with With You and the label only sent it to adult ac and urban ac. They didn't even bother to send it to major radio formats because they knew no one would play it. They figured they could get an Adult Comtempory hit and it didn't even top the formats it was sent to. AC was popular in the early 90s and as the 90s progressed, less and less ballads topped the charts. That's why acts like Boys II Men flopped 97 onwards as the continued to release ballads as singles instead of getting with the times and incorporating hip hop and uptempos. She needs to do something she has never done and that's an all up tempo album. All of her uptempos have traditionally stayed at the top longer than her ballads as they usually came and went. Her uptempo remixes for [Anytime you need a friend] were gaining traction in the UK but the label didn't support those remixes because they didn't want her seen as a disco diva. I think she could have sold more units of Music Box had the label released more uptempos. Anytime You Need a Friend and Without You are some of her best ballads and they failed to hit #1 but Dreamlover topped the charts for 8 consecutive weeks.

I remember that Boyz II Men were at number one on the US charts in 97 with "4 seasons of loneliness". I think Mariah was at number one with "Without you" in Germany and many other countries in Europe. That song was so huge, it still gets more airplay here than "Dreamlover". But I understand what you mean. Personally I don't care for the charts anymore. It would be wonderful if Mariah had another hit. But I would prefer just good music. A hit or not.

Great thoughts Jamie. For the post I would give you hundreds thumbs up. "Give us back that Soul influenced, Gospel loving Mariah that we knew and mix it with some RnB and you will have some happy lambs." I would be very happy with it. I listened to "MIAMTEC" yesterday, somehow it is my least favourite album by Mariah. Also I love "Make it look good", "The art of letting go" and "Meteorite". But "Emotions" and "Music Box" are outstanding and unmatched until today. But I do believe Mariah will surprise us all, maybe next year. I hope so.

I was just listening to Music Box and Emotions in the gym, and it got me thinking why Mariah never returned to doing a mainly ballad album with a few uptempo numbers. Yes she likes RnB but that doesn't mean it has to be your main focus for the rest of your career. Those types of albums worked for her and it's a shame she got stuck in the same RnB vibe for so long. Going back to a ballad album and then next album after that could have been more RnB. Do you think it's more to do with proving to Tommy that she can make it no matter what? I just think it would have been nice for her to experiment a bit more over the years, show us she's still got that soul sound she had on Emotions and the heart wrenching lyrics of Music Box. Just seems to me she made up her mind to break away from what she was and take a completely new direction and leave her core fan base behind. I'm grateful for the music we've had over the years but it would have been nice and I think beneficial to her career/likability with the general public had she not complete abandoned the image and music she was most famous for. Give us back that Soul influenced, Gospel loving Mariah that we knew and mix it with some RnB and you will have some happy lambs. I get she was affected by Tommy but that was 28 years ago now. Yes she's had some great success since but the diva show and lackluster songs are not working for her anymore. Surely she must see that. She always reflects on the great early days of her career in a positive way now, she needs to dig deep into herself and bring out the caring likeable lady she once was.

I think Vegas is a cheaper way to stay in one place rather than traveling around to perform. So she’s adding more dates depending on the demand at the time in Vegas. If Mariah was seeing a decline in her accounts and needed more money we would be seeing a lot more side projects. She would still be releasing songs even though money is not in music that much anymore, but she would still bank on some sort of cash. I also think she would be open to more duets, movie rolls, or even doing another fast food promotion like with McDonalds a few years ago lol.

Yes, it seems the super rich people always fear to loose their money and lifestyle. I would be happy with 1 million euro. I'm humble. Lol. I would travel around the world and that's it. But I wouldn't need luxury. For me to have a good time is more luxeus than a new car or expensive brands. And of course health is the most important thing. But back to Mariah and Vegas. What Robert-Anthony assumed is sounding nice. Gigs for the band and dancers. Will Trey be in Vegas too? I love that he and Mariah are still on stage together. Their "chemistry" is wonderful.

I don't have any sources or receipts but maybe these residencies are to pay current bills and she only does the shows she needs at the time. She's probably miserable so it's like, "Ok add 5 more dates to get us through until the Christmas shows then after we'll be fine till March." I'm not saying Mariah is broke, because she's not. I think she's doing this for the massive overhead it costs to live her present lifestyle. Mariah please carry your own umbrella and stay at the Red Roof. This is not worth the pain under the Botox. I kid. I kid.

Good idea TJ. I will do this. I love "If it's over". And I do miss the old Mariah so much. The humble one. She was so adoreable like Edward and Jamie already said. It almost hurts, almost too much. Lol. The humble, sweet and natural Mariah is the reason I became a fan. It was not just the voice (the most beautiful I've ever heard) but the combination with her sweet, magical aura. Cool, smart and a litlle shy but always giving her heart and soul to the music. The best.

Old concerts and old music (107,011)
by TJ from Norway

I hope that Mariah can release her old concerts on YouTube or DVD (or something) someday soon. There must be a lot of material somewhere. I know she was supposed to release a DVD from her CB gig in Paris. That was a good show. And what about the Music Box tour? What I've seen on YouTube is amazing. And I do need the other version of AIYM. Where did the vault go? Her alternative rock album? I would rather get that music instead of more slow "RnB". If there's new music it would be interesting with other genres, or maybe old hits from the 50's or 60's and even older. Ella Fitzgerald, Etta James and many more.
And you all should listen to If it's Over today. The album version, SNL or some other live performance, just to remember what she used to be. I love that song. Always and forever.

May Céline inspire Mariah? (106,845)
by MusicfanJ from Germany

|

Yes, I believe she will never talk openly or at least not now and she won't leave the diva antics because it's a protection. She's not like Céline. Mariah is more like Marilyn Monroe. We all know she loves her, they have some sad things in common. The traumatic childhood, loved by the world but still insecure inside. The relationships with different men that didn't work out. I do wish Mariah would get a little more relaxed. She's even more adorable when she's relaxed and not only the diva the people know her for. The "mop song" was hilarious. She can be so funny. A lot of people don't know that she's so funny.

The greatest musical artists of all time (106,838)
by MusicfanJ from Germany

Please put Elvis and the Beatles to the list. The one and only king and the fab four should be on it.
1. Elvis Presley 1950/1960 2. The Beatles 1960 Plus Marvin Gaye / Stevie Wonder 1960/1970.
The 90ies with Michael, Mariah, Whitney. What a great music decade it was. I'm happy to have witnessed it. Music with melodies, heart and soul. What's going on now musically especially on the charts is "poor" and boring compared to all the other decades. (There are of course some exceptions.) The new jazz artists are fantastic, the same with some neo-soul musicians.

I sure do hope so. Her creativity has been on a creative high lately. I believe the Lambs won't be disappointed about what MC has been cooking in the studio. We know she has had 6 years to give us a Thriller type of album. Lol, Edward.
The BET Awards are this Sunday. Maybe MC will join Muni Long on stage for the Made For Me remix.

Yup, they are all great. Perfect for the hot summer. "Made for me" grew on me too. Classic RnB at its best. The Rainbow remix is on fire.

I just want to say that I absolutely love the new remixes of Portrait and Rainbow's End. I can't stop playing them over and over again. Also, Made For Me and several gems on Rainbow 25th Anniversary. I'm so excited and happy to be enjoying the new music. Regards to all.

Rainbow Mariah (106,751)

"Rainbow Mariah" was really fun and so humble. As you described it perfectly, she looked so carefree and sweet all the time. How I love the Homecoming special from 99. Plus all the interviews and concerts around the world. The tv appearances and interviews in Italy and UK are wonderful. The one in Japan is the cutest where she gets a robot cat-toy or something like that. Her smile was always heartwarming. I love her looks during "Rainbow era" too. Her natural beauty were always showing. And the Rainbow album was perfect for the ending of the 90ies. That Mariah finished it in 3 months is remarkable. That we now have new remixes is great. I enjoy them a lot.

Living through all of Mariah's album releases and "eras" in real time, I've always said that "Rainbow Mariah" always seemed like someone I could be best friends with. So much fun. I don't know if it was the fact that she proved herself since Tommy already with Butterfly or what, but everything during Rainbow was so carefree. No jewelry, fancy dresses, just pure fun and remixes for days. I know the vocals were not perfection but that's what I loved. The organic rasp was everything. She just seemed so carefree not to mention we got the best live performances and acceptance speeches ever from #1's leading into Rainbow. FunRiah is what I remember during that time. Not to mention she was always a trendsetter. Having Jay-Z on Heartbreaker when she had the song "How Much" with Usher and it sampling Tupac "Me and My Girlfriend" way before J and Beyonce. She always was ahead of the game or shall I say industry.

Mariah Carey reflects on 25 years of Rainbow (106,726)

Wow, you lucky one. I had tickets ordered for the tour for a friend and me. But I was a young teen back then and my mother didn't allow to travel only with a friend to a city 2 hours away from my home at night. So I had to resell the tickets. In 2003 I was finally able and old enough lol to see Mariah for the first time (Charmbracelet tour) and the wait was worth it. One of the best nights. But back to Rainbow, I revisit the album too and I have so many good feelings and memories about the music and the time. As I said, I was a mostly carefree teen and I remember it like it was yesterday. I really was Mariah "obsessed" in 99. Lol. Most of my friends were fans of boybands but I was a Mariah fan since Daydream. Now the time has changed in so many ways, people and things, but the music and memories will stay. I feel a little old too now.

I love this album. Favorite song is Bliss. First time I saw Mariah in concert was during the Rainbow Tour and it was the first time I met her. I almost passed out. Glad to see Mariah reflect on the Rainbow album. Why do I feel so old? Great memories.
