The evolution of Mariah Carey (110,090) by MusicfanJ from Germany Jamie, Edward I absolutely feel the same about Mariah. It's good to know some longtime fans also miss the authentic, lovely Mariah. I miss the natural Mariah. "She was sexy without even trying, and that voice was just next level. That combo is what made her so special." So true, that was something beside her voice that made her so unique, so loveable and even relateable. For me this will always be the real Mariah. Of course we all change a bit with age, but most people stay indeed the same just wiser and older with luck. I do wonder what made her change so much too? Sometimes it feels like she hides the humble Mariah inside. I understand it can be a shield or something but it must be more than that. The "Joy to the world video" is one of my favourites. Not because it's so good, no story I know, but just seeing an already global superstar, having so much fun, looking so carefree, a diva but with a big heart and humour, Mariah was never more beautiful, more adorable than when she's "not trying". She was sexy without even trying, and that voice was just next level. That combo is what made her so special. It's sad, but at least we have her amazing back catalog to fall back on. I'm really hoping "Here For It All" has at least one huge power ballad. I kind of feel like this might be her last album. With how the voice has been and how long she takes between projects, I'm not sure what she'll sound like in another five years. I do hope she's got an MC only version with a second verse because how is she gonna perform it when she's on stage without Kehlani and Sheseea? They have a lot of real estate in the song. It's a certifiable bop, much more than Type. She's using her comfort zone for the more "poppy" songs now GTFO vocal texture just like on Type. I predict a top 20 BB and depending on how the album performs, even higher. I like that it's an all female collab. Her lyrics, I am marinating on right now. Off topic: Triumphant Get Em (110,059) by MusicfanJ from Germany I think the same way. Nick was a fantasy that became a nightmare for Mariah. After him she was never the same. It's a shame how one person can destroy so much. If you trust the wrong people and even marry such a character, it really can destroy you. With kids it's even more complicated. Poor Mariah. I still hope one day she find's a real man who really cares and love her the human, not the fame or money. She so deserves a real, loving partner. Off topic: Triumphant Get Em (110,052) by MhieMhie from Vietnam If Mariah released this song to this day, it will probably be heralded. I don't know what went wrong with this single but everything is on fire - powerful vocals, rad hiphop verses from MM + RR and pristine fluidity before MIAMTEC introduced helium to her vocal cords. I am hating on Nick real bad as I attribute this to her vocal decline. Messed up Mariah mentally, physically, and vocally yet Mariah still persevered. As a human, going through a second divorce, thinking about the welfare of two kids who have their family broken - all broke Mariah. Like imagine the pain she has to endure from Nick’s infidelity, her inner child much more broken as she was not been able to keep her created family whole like what happened to her childhood, and fulfilling career obligations with a broken/dislocated arm also including private intimate moments that Mariah gives the sloppiest [censored]. Guy did not respect Mariah as his wife nor as a human. Damn, this is one incredible person - lets give her flowers as long as she lives because she has really have given herself to the world. It should stay at the 90ies. Lol. Why not dress sexy but with class like the "Butterfly" or "EMC2" looks. I hope this trend will not stay long. I love the "Nanny", the sitcom is still hilarious but for a singer that look is not the best choice. But it's good to hear that the interview was nice. Mariah keeps it nice, neat, "sugar sweet" on new single (110,053) by Dove from United States It's not my favorite song by her but I don't hate it either. It's on par with Espresso, which was the song of the summer last year. I added it to my summer playlist. I mean it sounds like today's music. I liked GTFO better, though. Her voice sounded really frail and thin on some parts. Which I guess is what happens with age. I just wonder what the song would have sounded like if she still had the buttery soft texture she had in the 90's. The two other singers I don't know but they sounded really good. It sounded like 90's R&B. Like Aaliyah/Brandy/Monica/SWV vibes. If Sabrina Carpenter sang this I think it would be a hit. Not because she's a great singer but just because she's what's in right now. Which honestly, I don't even think is merited. If she wasn't young and pretty I don't think anyone would be interested. Opening for Taylor Swift during the Eras tour really helped her out too. I'm not trying to bash Sabrina because she's a girl with a dream, just like everyone else, and she will get her 15 minutes, but she doesn't have the "it" factor. I don't see longevity with her. She comes off very "pick me" and that can only be cute for so long. I see a Paula Abdul-like trajectory, which is not terrible. If I were to put my money on someone (of the newcomers) it would be Tate McRae. She has the "it" factor that Britney Spears had. Sabrina is like Christina Aguilera and Jessica Simpson trying to be sexy. They have to try. Britney and Tate McRae just are. Anyway, I don't know how I got off on this weird tangent. Have you seen all the unhinged comments on Instagram and X? I feel like we're actually pretty mild and somewhat level-headed here. Also, if you're a Mariah fan, you should try to aspire like her and have thick skin. Homegirl had her family's dog poisoned, their car set on fire, got spit on the face, and had the N-word chanted at her repeatedly while being cornered. What we experience online now in 2025 is like a bite from a fire ant compared to that. She experienced real-life racism in the '70s and '80s and still managed to become the wealthiest, most successful, and most significant out of all her bullies. What's your excuse? Luckily I drive an old Ford that has a cd-player, but I usually listen to the radio while driving. But at home the cd-player really is every day in use. Anyway I'm sure the album will be available as an mp3-version on Amazon. What I love about Amazon is that when you buy the CD you mostly get the mp3 songs for download. So you have "both worlds". Analysis of the MC16 rollout (109,819) by Bill from the UK I do wonder if MC16 will get shelved now as T-Dang made zero impact on the charts despite the big budget video and, for Mariah at least, some light promotion. If she is genuinely aiming for another number one, sticking to the same formula you've been peddling since 1997 isn't going to cut it. I do genuinely think her "Believe" moment has the potential to happen, but as with Cher, it needs to be something totally left field and unexpected of her. She has taken the safe turn for years, and it's like that for most of the people in the music industry. With TD I was so thirsty for something new, that I swallowed the song for a day or two, but it was soon forgotten. I do agree that the lyrics doesn't fit her age or the style I wished for, but I'm not the one making the songs or decisions. I don't think a lot of teenagers will discover her music and think of her as brilliant or fresh. I do believe this will be the most unmanaged album of her career (it took 7 years to even get to this stage). But I thought she created Butterfly, Rainbow, Glitter, Charmbracelet and TEOM pretty much freely without that much oversight or am I missing something? Even MIAMTEC was probably very unmonitored. It's like she always goes back to the first three album narrative of being controlled every time she releases something new, unless those above albums (the later years) still had heavy input by their respective labels? I am low key excited to hear what a completely free and unsupervised (on her own terms) body of work will sound like. But again, then what is LA Reid's role who is exec producing it? Everyone asks her the same boring questions that we've all heard a hundred million times over the years. Or they're shady to her, like Oprah was when she interviewed her about her book when it was released. If the interviewer is shady to you, it kind of makes you look bad to the audience. IMO. Especially potential new fans who haven't heard of her. I do want to hear from her but from her own platform. Tell us what you want us to know. Make blogs for us, or vlogs. I think a better marketing strategy would be to feature her songs on popular shows or movies. But good songs and on well written shows or movies. Mariah's songs speak for themselves. We've all experienced watching a movie or show and the song perfectly encapsulates the moment and you're bonded to that moment from then on. One example I can think of is the song Breathe Me by Sia, which was featured in the series finale of Six Feet Under. Or have young beautiful people with storylines in her videos (with inserts of her singing in glamour poses if she wants). For example: Beauty School Dropout was supposed to be sung by Elvis so she could wear an Elvis-esque jumpsuit (like the one Britney Spears wore when she was promoting Live From Las Vegas) and recreate the video. Walking down the white stairs and there can be a beautiful young up-and-coming actress with pink hair paying Frenchie. I'm imagining the young Queen of Hearts actress from the Descendants movie. He was good looking and for sure fun at the beginning. But his bad mouth was the worst, I was shocked how he talked about Mariah in interviews back then. It's clear he would "take Mariah back" immadiatley and at any time. Luckily Mariah will never ever take him back. He can manage his "tribe" with all the kids from different women, so he won't be lonely. I wish Mariah had children with a real humble man, who's true with an honest soul. Unpopular opinions (109,705) by Lambi from USA I will give him credit because if he didn't put in effort early on, Mariah probably wouldn't have kids right now. Initially, he was actually a solid match. He just started pursuing his academics and felt Mariah "couldn't keep up" and that the relationship was "stagnant". He most likely stumbled upon ideas about African chiefs who were genetically gifted and were allowed to procreate with anyone to produce strong children and strengthen the tribe. He clearly thinks it's him since he modeled his whole life after it, and tries to justify it because it was a "norm" back then. He now realizes it's the wrong idea to aspire to since he's been caught on record saying Mariah was the greatest and wishes he could have it all back. It's such a shame. It's way too late.
