About Bill from the UK: I love Mariah more than you do.

London Daydream Tour Attendee.

Re: Do You Know... Bonita (95,388) (95,396) by Bill from the UK
I love this description, I know exactly what you mean. Something about it. That's why they have long been favourites of mine.

Re: Sweetheart non Rap (95,392) (95,395) by Bill from the UK
The strings are the best part about Honey. The give it that "James Bond" feel. Agree, the remix really suffers without them and it would have probably been the perfect version of the song had they been included.

#1s EPs and recap (95,394) by Bill from the UK
Hello all. Bill's Weekly Remix EP Recap is back. Have you missed me?

So wow, where do we start? Mariah went all out with some mega rare remixes for this round. The "Mariah En Espanol" EP was an unexpected surprise, and closed the gaps with Hero, Open Arms and My All having their Spanish versions released which were missed during their respective eras. Great to also see the promo-only remixes for Mi Todo, which are great, available commercially for the first time ever.

And then Mariah went above and beyond with Do You Know Where You're Going To and the incredibly rare club mixes, only ever available on an extremely scarce South American promo picture disc previously. These are some of my most favoured mixes, and the instrumental break in the "bonita" versions is excellent.

I Still Believe delivered with a stonking 13 versions, the only omissions being some edits and instrumentals. It bested the existing EP of 10 tracks, which should really now be retired to avoid "clogging up" Mariah's online streaming catalogue. Sweetheart also came through with the fantastic "pounding" remixes (good for the cross trainer), three of which had only ever been available on a promo vinyl release before. Mariah had included the regular album versions for the #1s EPs, my thought here is that as the "#1 to Crapfinity" album essentially replaced the 1998 release, the regular versions have been included. Really though, DYKWYGT is the only track in danger of being erased, as Sweetheart and I Still Believe both appeared on Mariah's Greatest Hits.

Disappointing that When You Believe didn't get anything, albeit I did predict this as a slightly different TV Track and an Instrumental aren't exactly much to write home about, but it would have been nice to have had the live version from the Oscars included.

As per previous posts, * denotes vinyl only.

Promo only releases now available:
Sweetheart (A Cappella)
Sweetheart (M's More Bounce to the Ounce Vocal)*
Sweetheart (M's Pounding Dub)*

Re: Derek Jeter (95,391) (95,393) by Bill from the UK
There was a withdrawn UK release, I have it in my collection. And yes apologies, you're right, some territories in Europe did release the single.

Re: Sweetheart non Rap (95,380) (95,386) by Bill from the UK
Yes agree, it's different with The One (No Rap) as JD's contribution is minimal, albeit still has his hallmark level of annoyingness. Sweetheart being more a "duet", the rap actually works and adds to a rather bland song. And yes, it was planned as the lead single but was canned right before release as radio wasn't playing it. Hence singles were pressed both in the US and Europe but were never commercially issued.

Re: Derek Jeter (95,370) (95,379) by Bill from the UK
Amazing to think the impact this man had on MC, considering their relationship was, seemingly, short lived (I theorise he was on the scene as far back as 1995 and may have contributed to the breakdown of the marriage to Tommy). I have one minor niggle with the list: Damizza has a chapter in his book called "Don't Forget About Us", all about how he ended things with Mariah (whatever "things" were, friendship or maybe something more). The lyrics fit his version of events.

Yes, thank you I had just seen which is great. I'll do my usual ungrateful report nitpicking everything tomorrow or over the weekend. Looking forward to having some new mixes to stream tomorrow.

EPs this Friday (95,361) by Bill from the UK
Good news guys. Mariah is releasing a Spanish EP this Friday with Hero, Open Arms, My All, and the Mi Todo remixes alongside the #1s era EPs. The incredibly rare Do You Know Where You're Going To remixes are also being put out which is fantastic news.

Re: TMOMC (95,343) (95,345) by Bill from the UK
I get what you're saying, it is Mariah's story to tell in whatever way she wants. How airing your family's dirty laundry in public for the entire world to read is cathartic and healing is beyond me. But maybe that's just me. She is known as a singer and, desperately, has always sought recognition for her songwriting. Mariah's previous stance of adopting a wall of silence on all things personal said all there was to say really, e.g., it's not worth my time to comment on tabloid fodder. We know the Tommy story. And Nick. And Stella. We know about Glitter. We know she's biracial. We know Alison has been a thorn in her side. We know she doesn't know J. Lo.

What we *don't* know is how she came up with that heavenly, gospel flavoured bridge in Vision of Love, her behind the scenes battle to put out the Fantasy remix she believed so much in, how Outside took on so many meanings for so many people, how she unknowingly contributed to the holiday song canon when she (at first, reluctantly) made her Christmas album, how motherhood has changed her drive and perspective, how she worked with Gavin Christopher before Ben Margulies came along, how she sang with those jazz musicians late at night in her youth, how Someday was apparently considered being purchased for Whitney's "I'm Your Baby Tonight" album but Mariah believed so much in it that she turned down the offer. This is what I want to read about.

But, like I said, maybe it's just me.

Daydream anniversary (95,342) by Bill from the UK
Apparently the Underneath the Stars video will appear on or around Daydream's anniversary this month. David Morales was interviewed recently and commented that he did remixes for Forever, but that they never were released. I wonder if MC will put out a Forever EP around the same time also?

Without question, All I Want for Christmas Is You is the best. But The Roof is a close second.

Re: The Ballads-Deluxe Edition (95,331) (95,338) by Bill from the UK
I think it is item 3445 on this site's discography. It appears to be the same tracks as the US edition, but with a sample of her perfume.

Re: Article: Mariah after midnight (95,325) (95,326) by Bill from the UK
I see what you mean, but at the same time it seems this great opportunity to shake off the forever-late, shady, arrogant diva image she's cultured over the years and display her musical genius and an insight into her production technique, writing for others, vocal harmonies, singing style etc. has been lost. From what I've seen so far, the book is shaping up to be one big score settler. And who does that benefit?

Re: Article: Mariah after midnight (95,302) (95,324) by Bill from the UK
The most heartbreaking thing about that article was the reference to her "ex" brother and sister. The Carey household just seems so broken. Even Mariah referring to her mother calling the ambulance when she was attempting to kill herself as a "betrayal". I mean what on earth is a mother supposed to do in that situation? Surely now Mariah has her own children she can, more than ever, understand the actions she took at the time, when in a state of panic.

Personally I wanted all the family issues to not be addressed and it solely focus on her musicianship, her songwriting, the meaning behind songs, behind the scenes stories as to how her biggest hits came about. I still hold out hope the book does focus heavily on that.

Re: Babyface (95,290) (95,291) by Bill from the UK
Baby-face produced When You Believe for Whitney and Mariah so I think that was the official last time they worked together. I also loved Mariah's contribution to Every Time I Close My Eyes.

Re: Butterfly Bossa Nova Remix (95,276) (95,277) by Bill from the UK
For me it's not so much the rarity. I was fortunate to obtain the promo CD in 1997/1998 for not that much money at a record fare. What I like about it is how different it is. By that point, the standard Morales dance mix was becoming cliché, with the usual programmed drums, ostinato keyboards playing major chords, and unaccompanied vocal breakdown. The Bossa Nova was like a breath of fresh air, and it's still never really been bettered for originality.

Haha. I've been trying since 1999 to use "delectable" in a sentence.

Re: Rarities tracklisting - real? (95,262) (95,271) by Bill from the UK
In fairness, there is an awful lot of material that hasn't been released before if the tracklisting is real. The three b sides, whilst most of us have them on singles, fans have been screaming for them to be more readily available than they are, especially Slipping Away. Personally I'm looking forward to having them all together. As for All In Your Mind Take 2, I'm holding out hope of a deluxe 30th edition of the debut that will feature demo recordings and alternate takes. That would be an amazing way to end MC30, by going right back to where it all began.

Yep, one of the best mixes she ever did and in my top ten for sure.
