Beyonce strategy (43,765) by Keagon michael from USA
I think Mariah's strategy singing YDKWTD on Today and having NYC and LA play Thirsty was brilliant. I hope her opening performance at the AMA's is a new song as well. Maybe "Faded" which was rumored to be the next single, but who cares, she is doing this to get pre-orders and wants the album to an album only purchase. She will probably release individual songs after the first week of album sales (i. e. Beyonce) and maybe that is what she meant by Beyonce release style after all. Props to her. I only hope YDKWTD is a single and has a great video to get her closer to her 19th #1 if that is even possible today. Does anyone know her spins for either new song?

You Don't Know What To Do (43,764) by NYHotShotta from USA
That song deserves to be a single and I'd rather it over Thirsty because it reminds me of #Beautiful because it's a feel good type of song.

You Don't Know What to Do (43,763) by Billy from Greece
Awesomeness. Love the intro. Especially the "so surprised" section. And yes, the 4 tracks off the album already previewed in their entirety make a brilliant collection of sounds.

Today show (43,762) by PJW from The U.K.
I tried not to comment on her vocals but after listening YDKWTD for the umpteenth time, I had to. The version I'm listening to is one uploaded by jameschan. So she's obviously singing over a backing but that only gives weight to how good she sounds. Her voice is strong, she keeps up with and sounds the same as (sometimes better than) the track. The intro and "you don't know" just before Wale's rap are good examples of this. The only point she doesn't is when she doesn't hold the note for as long as she does on the recording, but then she's never been able to do that. And actually, when she does hold those notes on the performance, she holds them well, with power and clarity. Unless she makes some life changes, which she won't, we'll never get that syrupy fluid voice we once knew back but right now I'm very satisfied with what she delivered and if I could clink her champagne glass I would.

Mariah's fashion sense (43,761) by Hana from UK
She is really taking the diva thing too seriously isn't she? Enough of the gowns, wish she'd dress casual but chic and trendy jeans and t-shirt for once and not just in boring black. Visual presentation is also everything, especially when she has to make up for the lack of vocal strength she now has and also the lack of stage presence. Somebody should sit her down and tell her to watch a Beyonce performance to show her how it's done.

YDKWTD (43,760) by Billy from England, UK
This song is going to be her next number one single.

Single (43,759) by Darryle from USA
If Mariah decides to release a single it needs to be YDKWTD. That song is ridiculously catchy. It goes with the disco trend but it still sounds like Mariah. It's uptempo but has a piano intro. This sing is the definition of a first single/hit single. I can't wait to see the video if there is one. I'd love for it to be 70's themed. In a roller rink with background dancers on skates. It would be super cute if she put Nick in the video and they re enacted a scene from roll bounce. We'll I guess I'll just have to wait and see.

I have it but its not high quality. I got it straight from YouTube and sometimes the quality is iffy. It's yours if you want it.

Mariah Today ABMB (43,757) by Hana from UK
Off key galore. Truly terrible. I did like "You don't know what to do" though, and TMB wasn't so bad.

I think she did a good job (43,756) by TJ from Norway
I love the fact that she did forget some words and stuff. That makes her human. What I don't understand is that the new song she performed is not her lead single. It was a catchy song.

Today Show performance (43,755) by Stephen from London, United Kingdom
By recent standards, it was actually quite good IMO. Not saying it was perfect, but it was good. I haven't seen Mariah look that confident on live TV in a while, so I don't want to say anything too harsh. By this point, we know the voice is not what it was, so I can't be arsed dwelling on that fact. YDK is a terrific song. It's everything I'm That Chick wishes it was, and is by far the best song Mariah has previewed so far. It's like a combo of Diana Ross, Prince and Mariah all rolled into one song. I love the vibe on it. In all fairness to Mariah, people have been criticising her new music for ages, but #Beautiful, Thirsty, and YDK are 3 excellent songs and have only wetted my appetite for the album. Note how Thirsty and YDK have shut some naysaying bloggers up. They've gone very quiet on criticising Mariah over the past week, and one blog (thatgrapejuice) resorted to a fake lip syncing scandal to make a story. It was ridiculous of course, because even though YDK was clearly lipped or not properly live, which is understandable, TMB and ABMB were definitely live. It was so stupid. I've stopped reading that blog - it's full of fake, "mean girls" type of support for Mariah. I'm just so happy for the music I've heard thus far. Mariah has really impressed me. Sidenote, apologies for the rambling message. I literally just woke up when typing this. Have a blessed weekend lambs.

I'm thirsty (43,754) by Federico from Italy
I don't understand why she didn't sing Thirsty yesterday. If I am launching a single I expect to hear that live too. I'm glad we could hear a new song such as "You don't know what to do" but I don't understand why choosing "Touch my body" and "Always be my baby" instead of singing a new song that has just been launched on radio.

Live vocals (43,752) by Marissa from USA
Is Kelly Price lurking on this messageboard? Dang. (Kidding) I was so excited about YDKWTD that I didn't care if her live vocals weren't 100% perfect. Expecting her to sound the way she did during the Emotions era when it's early in the morning and she's outside is a bit much these days. I don't know why some people are acting shocked that the performance wasn't flawless. Now, if her impromptus start sounding a mess then I will be alarmed (that's where her vocals thrive the most). The voice is still there, she just has to take the maintenance seriously like she did back in the day (humidifiers, silence days before a performance).

Today show (43,751) by Bill from the UK
Loved the performances, especially the new song. Looks like that's gone down well with everybody which is great to see. Glad she sang live (except the crescendo of ABMB that she always lips), thought she sounded great. I am so excited for the album, I really can't wait.

Today (43,750) by CHAZ from USA
Any thoughts why Mariah did not perform two other songs for Me. I Am Mariah... The Elusive Chanteuse, instead of Touch My Body and Always Be My Baby? I thought the whole idea was to promote the new album. I loved You Don't Know What To Do.

Heavenly (No Ways Tired/Can't Give Up Now) (43,749) by Edward from USA
Out of curiosity I went on YouTube and listened to "No Ways Tired" and "Can't Give Up Now", and now I'm dying to hear what Mariah might have come with. Mary Mary's "Can't Give Up Now" is beautiful and uplifting, and "No Ways Tired" also follows a similar theme. Even though I'm not particularly religious, I loved what I heard and I can't wait to hear how Mariah mashed up these two songs. I hope radio and people give Mariah a chance at exposing her new music to the masses. I have the feeling this is a good album, and I would hate to see it fade away without having served its purpose. I like the fact that according to Mariah the album is not just a bunch of songs put together just for fun (E=MC2), but a well thought out and cohesive body of work.

Totally off topic, lol (43,748) by Stacey from USA
I don't know why I thought of this duet, but I totally want the mp3. It's MC's duet with Michael Buble for AIWFCIY. I know Christmas is months away and I'm so excited summer the weather is warming up, but still I need the song. So, if you have a high quality mp3 of the song and don't mind sending it to me, I would be so thankful.

Thirsty vs. You Don't Know What to Do (43,746) by T from USA
I don't know which song would fair better but I do know whichever one she picks she must stand behind it, perform it everywhere and film an amazing music video (even if she just uses actors in the video not herself). That's the only chance a good song has to grow. It must be heard everywhere.

Sequencing (43,743) by tadatorao from japan
Mariah must have put a lot of effort in sequencing the tracks in the album. Just imagine the uplifting power of You Don't Know What To Do after You're Mine (Eternal). It's like playing I'll Be Loving You Long Time right after We Belong Together. I got goosebump just imagining that.

Watch, that'll be the title, and it'll be appropriate because it'll be Christmas and folks will be like "Where is it?" Lol.

Confused (43,741) by Mark from United States
I'm not understanding any Today show criticism. I thought the performance of TMB was excellent and energetic and her voice sounded great. Also during the new song there was a backing track being used but to me it sounded like alot of it was being sung live as well. I don't think she should be faulted her for using a backing track and letting it do a little of the work when performing an uptempo song for the very first time at 9am with millions of people watching. ABMB also sounded great minus the flub. I was impressed by her vocals and definitely didn't regret getting up on my day off to watch it, in fact it got me woken up and set my day off to a good start. Great performance, haters can shut it.

Multiple covers (43,740) by Mimi L. from Empower Your Highlighter
So I was wondering if anyone else noticed it but the 3 different covers of Elusive seems to resemble some of Mariah's previous ones. Like obviously a lot of people noticed that the Japanese/Target edition is like Charmbracelet. But then the standard edition is very TEOM (with the golden hues around her and her outfit and the similar pose with her entire body in view). Finally the deluxe edition is very Mariah Carey (the first album I mean) as in the same pose, head shot (left side of the face), and strands of hair blowing over her face slightly. I don't know, just thought it was fun. I liked it when Mariah re-shot some of her previous photoshoots for Memoirs (although the innocence of the original Butterfly album shoot was replaced by the over sexualized outfit and a huge fake smile if that makes sense).

Mariah You do not know perf (43,739) by Gilles from Malta
So she sung it over the track (it means live). Sometimes higher sometimes a bit low. It is easy to understand and to listen what she is singing or not. It is live, it is not lyps at all and Wale shows it to us very well.

Nikki / single releases (43,738) by Will from England
So, if Mariah is going by that strategy (performing brand new songs but not releasing them, to drive up the pre-order sales), does that mean we could potentially get another brand new song for the awards show? I mean, that strategy does make sense, to me in any case. Technically, neither Mariah or JD have called either song "the new single". JD certainly never tweeted out the word "single" as far as I am aware, and neither did Mariah/Mariah's team. Yes, the DJ called "Thirst" the new 'single' (and as far as I am aware, it hasn't been released onto iTunes as a separate single, do correct me if I'm wrong), and JD quoted him, but never really confirmed it. Yes, there was the "single cover", but point out to me where anyone says the words "single cover". So, maybe this is all part of Mariah's ambition to get everyone to listen to the album as a whole. If that is the case, then that's a brilliant move and certainly one way to get album sales up for the first couple of weeks.

Better than 2008 (43,737) by Johnny from United States

I think Touch My Body sounded better today in 2014 than it did in 2008 when she did it on Good Morning America. People are over-exaggerating.
