Almost Home rocks (37,248)

I love this tune. I bought it already on iTunes. I think it's very radio friendly too, hopefully UK will agree. I hope she does a great live version of it too.

Almost Home (37,247)

Almost Home is classic Carey. The inspirational lyrics sung in her mid range during the verses and the belting and use of her upper register during the choruses are inspired and it's inspiring. It succeeds where Triumphant failed. It's her best vocal performance since 2005 in 8 years. Lambs/fans who don't like the lyrics or production should keep in mind it's the theme song to a Disney movie. I'm still hoping Mariah partners Bruno Mars and The Smeezingtons for her new album. I think they could write some classics.

Me love me some Almost Home (37,243)

I stayed up to midnight to buy my copy from iTunes ($1.29) on laptop and from Amazon ($.99) for my phone. I wasn't too happy with the original version of "Triumphant", but I am happy and excited for "Almost Home". I know it's a soundtrack song for a movie, but I still love it. I listened to it yesterday on Soundcloud (about 40 times), but I made sure I still paid for a legal copy. We gotta support our queen.

AH is lovely. I cried when it came to the chord change after the bridge. The vocal runs are crazy. Hallelujah. She sounds a bit like Rihanna early on verse two, but that's alright. I love this song. Could this be her 19th? Amazing.

Wow. I have just listened 5 times today and I'm already singing with the pre chorus and the chorus. I love it. It's catchy, it's current and it's moving. I don't care about the little autotune at the verses, because I think it adds to the dynamic feel of the track. This is what I love, it's like you are listening and you see pictures or scenes in your mind. And that notes baby, amazing. Put Diamonds, I'm Like A Bird and Girl On Fire together and you'll get this. I'm not comparing, but what I meant was, you have to put 3 or 4 artists all together to come up with the one and only Mimi.

Yes! Yes! Yes! I love it. The vocals are beyond on point. She's found a new confidence in her voice and mid-range. And I think Tony Bennett has something to do with it. Do you remember when she was recording WDTBRFM, she wasn't sure if she could belt at the end, but was surprised she could. And since then, she's just belted out songs like she's not done for a very long time. I've listened several times and still can't think of a song it sounds like and I really like that. Means that she's leaving the rut she was in as well as leaving her "creative safe place". Working with Stargate has just reinforced this fact. 10/10

I've been listening to this song over and over. Its a good song, and the new vocals definitely make me look forward to the new album. However, I think that the production could have been better. Why auto-tune? I'm also not feeling the cut and paste vocals, because it means that she'll once again be struggling to sing the entire song live. Just saying. I like the song though.

The song is cool, fitting for the Disney production. The vocals are definitely back. I mean, I really haven't heard her mid voice this way in years, which is very exciting and promising. For the fans who wanted a modern pop ballad, this is it. I however would prefer a more soulful jazzy gospel sound for the album. Something I can feel, sink my teeth into, something on the order of the song snippet we heard on the B.W. interview or (in reference to the catalogue of gems) Vanishing, FLAB, I Wish You Well etc. Just not a totally pop album (or totally hip hop/ rap featured either). Having said that, I still feel the new song is a great refreshing sound for her. So I hope it catapult this era to coasting highs.

Wow. Way to go MC. Is it just me or is this track really different for Mariah? I mean, yes it is her voice obviously, but the style for this track just feels really new for her. I love the use of her lower register here, and I agree that the song feels like it is meant for movie credits. I'm looking forward to buying tomorrow. It kind of reminds me of Halo a little bit. Not that the two songs sound the same though. Not to me anyway . Just the sentiment and the feeling behind it. Cheers, Mariah.

This is much better than Triumphant. Perhaps a bit too Rihanna sounding in the production, but still a good song. Those signature Mariah Carey vocals put a smile on my face. She sounds so beautiful and unique when she belts like she does on Almost Home. The constant whisper singing was getting painfully dull and just disappointing. Almost Home is a great surprise. Thumbs up from me.

This is unlike anything Mariah has done before. It is quite anthemic and sounds like something you would expect during the credits of a movie (which is good for what it is). I would love to hear an acoustic version of this with a bit less production. I'm glad the breathiness has been kept to a minimum. The voice here makes me look forwarded to the new album.

It's catchy, fresh rather than sounding desperate to be current. I don't think it will go down as an MC classic, but it's still great.

Yes. She is almost there and almost home. Remember that this is a Disney song. I just hope she sings with this beautiful voice on the rest of her songs on the new album. So much better than just the clip. I don't think this is her next number one, but I have been wrong before. I got this electropop vibe. That reminded me of the fact that it's sad she didn't release the remix version of Memoirs.

I literally have goosebumps right now. The Lambily's gonna eat this one up. Woaw. "Almost home" is easily Mariah's 19th No. 1. I think she has chemistry with Stargate. It's a very current sound, but still has that Mariah Carey flavour which makes it distinct. Look out for that all too familiar siren. The voice is back indeed, with a fiery vengeance.

Geez, I'm so excited. I can't wait to hear the song. It's almost Tuesday here in the Philippines and that would mean we have to wait until Wednesday morning to finally listen to it. But it's ok. I know it's going to be worth the wait.

I thought the same thing when I heard the snippet. I can't wait to hear the full track myself. I have this gut feeling the new album is going to feature more of her full voice and have more gospel influenced tracks than the last few albums. I can't wait for Tuesday.

Mariah belting (37,221)
by Matthew from USA
| |
|
|
I think she just has different ways of belting. I like it when she belts in her mid-range, although lately she tends to belt in her high range. Take her latest Christmas album. The belting on the opening of Auld Lang Syne is sublime. There's a part in Christmas Time Is In The Air where she sings "and to feel love like ours always". That is also very beautiful. But that is her belting in her mid-range. But on that same album, the song with John Legend, when it gets to chorus and she starts belting "because it's Christmas time get together it's going to be so nice", it sounds a little shouty/screechy to me. She is kind of overpowering him, whereas when they did the Save The Music duet, they were blended perfectly. So I don't enjoy it as much when she is belting high, which seems to be more taxing to her. But it's just a personal preference thing. It's amazing that she has all these options. Most singers don't. It sounds like she is belting high on Almost Home.

Yes, you did directly quote me, but you also twisted what I was trying to say with your following commentary. Which would make it out of context, it's possible to intepret things differently. Whether they paid her 18 million or 100 million, the show has to be edited and they're not going to edit based on who they paid the most for, they going to edit to their discretion, what they think works for the show, what they think people want to see. If they think pople want more Nicki, then that's what they're gonna get. As far as Mimi's judging, I guess pople just see what they see. So we'll just have to agree to disagree.

RadChad and Jenny (37,216)

RadChad, I basically summarised your post (37,191) by using a direct quote which was not at all out of context. Unless, of course, you usually say one thing but mean another. Jenny, sometimes the truth is harsh and can often come off as rude. I have yet to hear Mariah give useful constructive feedback. But like RadChad says, we may just have to wait for the live shows. I personally do not believe it is an editing problem. Why the hell would you pay someone $18 million dollars and then not get your money's worth on the show? I think they didn't show a lot of Mariah's comments during the Hollywood rounds because she didn't have a lot to say. Like with all reality TV shows, you can only edit what you are given.
