In most of her other roles, she was basically just playing herself. At this point, I think she should stay away from acting and focus on writing and producing. Out of all her talents, those are the areas where she can still really shine and make the most of what she brings to the table. JLo is to singing what Mariah is to acting. MC 2017? It's A Wrap? Bye Bye? (113,982) by Lainsky from Philippines I hate to agree with you, TJ, but I share your sentiments, especially regarding the IDKH situation with JLo. We all understand where that expression is coming from and the truth behind it. I've watched her movie on Netflix, and despite her diva-like attitude (which is reportedly worse than Mariah Carey's, according to the media and those who have worked with her), I still appreciate her as an actress. As for singing, songwriting, and her album, recent messages from dedicated fans seem to suggest that they are ready for Mariah to wrap things up, leading to her song, "Is it a wrap? Or are we really singing 'bye-bye?'" I don't think so. Remember when Mariah mentioned in previous interviews that she can't envision doing anything other than singing and creating music? I believe she will continue to pursue that passion despite the challenges you've all highlighted. While her voice may have been affected over time, she can still sing and, most importantly, continue writing songs. Hey, I believe writing songs is her innate coping defense. It's hard to predict where she will go with her current situation musically, but we can only hope and pray for the best. MC 2017? (113,970) by TJ from Norway I think she has stagnated as a musician a long time ago. She makes what she thinks is safe, and then it fails. This old school RnB is just boring (in my opinion). Her voice has become metallic and sounds more like the chipmunks characters. It's difficult to hear what she is singing, because of the voice and the mumbling throughout some songs. I also think that her lyrics used to be more mature back in the days. It's to much swearing and brand naming in her latest work. The melodies are almost gone compared to how she sang and produced in her early days. I'm tired of the "I don't know her" attitude, and I think she has lost that fight against J.Lo (who acts much more mature, polite and classy about the whole thing). Mariah comes out as simple and bitter, acting like a spoiled child. Her interviews are not interesting because there has been absolutely nothing new for the last 10-15 years. It's like she's on repeat. She doesn't get the respect she wants and there's reasons for that. She just doesn't realise it. I believe that most people outside this board think she is an outdated diva with crazy demands and no connection with the real world (or that she stopped making music in 2005). Most of my friends can't stand her, and when I mention her name to people they are either "who is that?" or "she is horrible". Guess who is fighting for her in those discussions. That's me. You cannot expect her to be the '90s Mariah. She's way past that. It's already written in history. Her glittery music career is taking its natural course. The peaks and valleys, and another set of peaks and valleys, had happened already. I am not saying she may not peak again. She may, but also may not, depending on her choices and the public's. However, let's face the hard reality that she's slowly fading away, at least the music she's putting out there recently. Everything fades like Aretha, Whitney, Janet, Madonna, and even Celine, Britney, and Christina A. They are no longer the singers they used to be, and neither is Mariah Carey. We can only hope for and pray for another peak, but we can also choose to be truthful, be happy, and content with the contribution she already made in the industry, the history she has written, and enjoy the songs and albums she worked really hard to put out there for us to enjoy forever. Mariah can still do what she does to stay relevant. She was born to do it. However, we may put our expectations realistically. Her voice can never be the same. She's effing 57 years old and not 27, may I remind everyone? And singers can still sing in their old age, but not the way they sounded when they were young. Our speaking voice naturally loses its strength, much like the singing voice. It's a hard truth that we all need to accept instead of being disillusioned about her voice and singing career. Whether we like it or not, her light gradually dims, and she can only extend this before it completely fades, depending on the choices she makes in life. Everything eventually fades away. Well, IMHO, no one should be scared or worried about Mariah's legacy. So, for the younger fans or people who witnessed it, they have come to know her through it more than the impact she has already made in the first fifteen years of her music career. For the people and lambs who witnessed her success in those times, whether we like it or not, that success is already part of her legacy. Most people from that era will always remember her for the songs and albums that profoundly impacted their lives. That kind of legacy is even more significant than "All I Want for Christmas Is You". Mariah Carey will always be celebrated for her vocal talent, chart-topping successes, and timeless, heartfelt lyrics, as well as for her inspiring songs that have influenced and transformed the pop and R&B music industry. If these elements don't define Mariah's legacy, then I don't know what does. It is an almost perfect album with those amazing singles, especially if the original Loverboy was not stolen. If there had been no breakdown, no Tommy sabotage, and no 9/11, and then this song had been released as an official single, who knows how it would have performed? I know we all love list here lol, so here is my list of non Christmas albums that I think had the biggest success with each generation. Gen X = Music Box Millennials = TEOM Gen Z = Memoirs Across all Generations = Daydream (ABMB and Fantasy) still sound fresh and are on constant rotation even today. What do you all think? Would you change anything on this list? Also, I still find it interesting (although I love the album) that Memoirs seemed to be loved by the younger GP rather than many of Mariah's veteran fans. I would love a Memoirs or Caution part two. The public excitement might be what MC's career needs to take the world back in time when her music made people say hmmm. When it was released in 2009, it deserved a higher peak than No. 7. I thought it would jump to No. 1 from No. 11, but when it stalled there for three consecutive weeks, I gave up. The disconnect, I mean. Perhaps her pop sound can still be heard from TEOM, Charmbracelet, and Glitter. They still have her 90s influence. How I wish, in case her voice gets revived, she'll release an album that sounds like Music Box or Daydream, at least. And she could title it with Reminisce or Reminiscing (nice title track for a first single too), Back to Basics (although Christina Aguilera already used this title), Classic, Classic Sound, or Old School. The Revival Of Mariah Carey (113,682) by Jamie from UK This is the problem now, the negativity starts to over shadow the greatness. Most fans on here this past week have been honest and truthful about her current state and by some it's been seen as bashing. All we want for Mariah is for her to be remembered for how great she was, and to have the respect she so deserves. We are still fans, probably even more so than the yass queens because we truly care about Mariah and her legacy. I'm at the point now if she were to bow out and call it a day I'm cool with that. It doesn't mean I don't believe in her, I just don't want her to be ridiculed and ruin her legacy. I was listening to Dreamlover the other day whilst out on a walk, and I got a feeling of not being able to relate to that Mariah with the way she is at the moment, to me it's like she's lost her personality, and I can't match the two together. Whilst only a brief feeling it occurred to me that if I'm feeling like this as a super fan then the general public only see what they see now. To me there's always been two Mariah's pre and post breakdown that I've had difficulty matching up but at the moment she's neither of these which is even more difficult for me to process.
