Fave five The Rarities songs (96,000)
by Lainsky from Philippines
| |
|
|
In the 90's, the artist normally releases 4-6 singles from an album depending on the record label too. On that note, what are your five favorites from this MC30 rare collection? Here are my fave five singles I wish the world would hear and listen to.
1. Out Here On My Own (still, can't get over) 2. Mesmerized (the title do its job) 3. Cool On You (infectious - do the coat, kick rocks, eat dirt) 4. Can You Hear Me (soulful Mariah) 5. Here We Go Around Again (old classic vibe you'll never get tired of listening)
If there will be B-side, that would be I Pray. For the fifth day in a row, this album is on repeat for at least 4-5x with volume almost in full lol. The neighbors definitely can hear it.

Thanks Bill for the review. Nicely done. I was about to do mine but I know someone would do it and I could not agree more. You made me laugh with your comment on STD lol. Also, I got that Chris Nickson Mariah book too and now, I remember she mentioned that song. CD1 gives me the same feeling I have during the 90s and 00s when I was finally listening to her each new album. Similarly, it is on repeat since October 2nd. Although honestly, I skip some tracks that I heard before. Loving Mesmerized, Cool On You, Can You Hear Me, and Here We Go Around Again. Plus I Pray in my solitude moment.

The Rarities must be singles (95,921)
by Lainsky from Philippines

Out Here On My Own remains a best choice for a single before this album came out. I still hope this will become a Top 10 if not #1 - kind of unlikely but who knows. Mesmerized has that relevance and catchy tune that can make people feel the last song syndrome, which makes it a good follow-up single. I wonder what could happen if this was included and released as the carrier single for MIAMTEC. Cool On You also can be released as a single. Like Mesmerized, I love the sound and it has that retaining tune to listeners. So, she could go either of these two or both. Can You Hear Me or I Pray are both beautiful ballads that tells you exactly what era where she recorded it. For commercial release, I would go for the former and promo for the latter. They are both divine with different message. Yes, I am still wishing and praying and dreaming to see Mariah back at No.1 on the Billboard Hot 100 and 200 chart. At this point of her career, this could be phenomenally historical and record-breaking. Well, regardless, I am grateful for these old new music from her. Timeless.

Out Here On My Own on repeat (95,641)
by Lainsky from Philippines
| |

Love to see the good reviews for this latest cover of our queen. If I have not heard the original song, I would have thought that it is her original. No kidding. It was very raw and very emotional, you all have felt it that's why most of us (yes, me too) nearly cried or cried actually and feeling so emotional listening to the entire song. Now I am curious to watch the movie both the 1980 and 2009 and then Flashdance. I have seen the 80s Fame and Flashdance but I was just a kid then. I love the raspiness of her voice here. Goosebumps are real. I love Glitter so much even if the world hates it. They just don't know how to distinguish excellent music from the good and bad ones. So, I am going to imitate Bill and do the similar playlist that he did. Then, I will try also playing it along with her other covers but definitely after DYKWYGT. Maybe because I got so used to her songs bringing a highlight at the end like whistle or high fading note, at first, I wish she could have done something different. But after playing it on repeat, I have decided that it is better the way it is. In fact, I believe this could have been a commercial release and a single. How can she keep such precious gem for almost 20 years? But it's here now and again, I am playing it on repeat. Sure you do too.

Out Here snippet (95,599)
by Lainsky from Philippines
| |
|
|
Goosebumps and excitement were the feelings I got upon hearing the snippet of this song. How much more the entire song. I believe her rendition will sound like this is her song similar to what she did with WY, IBT, OA, and ISB. Hoping that this cover of Irene Cara's original will become Mariah's certified hit this year. For the sake of MC30 oh dear Lord please. It's 18th already here so in a a few hours it will be out here for all us.

Article: Fly away: Mariah Carey's Butterfly turns 20 (95,560)
by Lainsky from Philippines

It has been 23 years since this album came out. Yet, it remains her best work for me and album of all time. The older it gets the more it becomes relevant in my opinion and the more I love it. I have grown to like the tracks I used to skip. Now, I love it entirely. Breakdown and Butterfly remains my top favorite though, which could have easily been gone to No.1s if not for whatever reasons then. Another could have been from this era is the The Roof. These 3 singles plus Honey and My All could be her 5 No.1s from an album. This album could have been also given her 8 consecutive No.1s. Oh well, I was always after the Billboard chart back then. Just memories and could have beens from this "the true" Mariah album. Her masterpiece or the crown of all her albums in my opinion. Today, after 23 years it remains my all time favorite and enjoys listening to it more and more like a wine. We can all simply wish that she could make another something like this. Now that she's 50 and spent 30 years in the music industry, it would be great to see another masterpiece from her after The Rarities. Butterfly is Mariah Carey 23 years ago. An album that represents the real meaning of Mariah Carey today would be awesome.

Stacey, you are not alone feeling that way. We're almost the same age and I am feeling this way about her. I also agree with Randy, I feel so blessed to see her almost from the beginning until she peaked, went down and went up again. Perhaps for 10 years now, I do not care as much as I did before about her personal life and music like the new and younger lambs now. I used to be that way lol. I got older, maturer, and knows what truly matters in life. After listening to STD, I was like, okay. The last album I was so into after TEOM is Caution. I believe if it was released in 2011 with proper marketing, no delays, no date changes, etc., it could have been another hit. Don't get me wrong I still adore her. Now, I simply appreciate her music and artistry.

Agree Bill with the original where Mariah sounds like the featured artist instead of the lead. However, the remix is way way much better and it could have been the original single. Still listening to it at times.

Missing moments like this where Mariah jumps on the top of the Hot 100 from nowhere or lower half of the chart. Time really has changed. I can only binge reading on these historical successes and reminisce how happy and excited I had been witnessing those victories.

Article: Mariah Carey's Glitter soundtrack LP hits Spotify (94,189)
by Lainsky from Philippines

Glitter soundtrack remains one of Mariah's finest work. The cohesiveness of every single, her voice, the lyrics were almost perfect. Too bad not many people fell into bad publicity that time. However, it's making waves now. #JusticeForGlitter has been served. The film too I think is now in Netflix although I have not subscribed to it. So, way to go Billie Frank.

Should have been singles for me from this album are: 1. Touch My Body - Correct first single for it sounds fresh. 2. Migrate - Already dented the chart, sounds fresh too. 3. For The Record - Timeless classic Mariah, could have been her third No.1 from this album and 20th overall. 4. Cruise Control - Again, fresh sound from Mariah, could have been her 4th and 21st No.1. 5-7 Bye Bye, IBLYLT (remix), ISIL

Article: Mariah Carey - Breakdown (93,368)
by Lainsky from Philippines
| |
|

When this song was released in 1998 I was hoping Mariah to score another No.1 after "Butterfly" became disqualified to chart due to its new rules back then. Only to be disappointed again when released "Breakdown" like Butterfly, just for airplay and not as a commercial single. I believe it is one of her best work that needs to be given justice too like Glitter. It was ahead of time anyway and when I listen to it, it sounds so modern and fresh. Hope they would also make a move for #JusticeForBreakdown.

by Lainsky from Philippines

"Lead The Way" is simply beautiful, classic and a masterpiece. Too bad many people did not hear it for they just have written off Mariah that time. Still, I must say this is one of her best ballad. It is in my top three of all time. I just wish she will write and release something quite similar to this in her upcoming album that we all hope to be this year.

Re: The next album (93,164) (93,175)
by Lainsky from Philippines

Agree however, if she will revisit an album sound as blueprint or baseline for the next album, the debut is undoubtedly good but Daydream or Music Box would be better. These two albums catapulted her to the peak of her career in the 90s and became the standard of the succeeding female artists especially the Daydream. Caution is good I really liked it but it did the same mistakes of releasing or wrong single choices. She needs to give an album like this a rest and go back to her true pop diva self. Her old fans absolutely miss hearing those pop ballads and uptempo like Fantasy or Dreamlover and her new fans will love to hear her on her present voice on this sound. If only Mariah can read these clamours.

90's sound (92,704)
by Lainsky from Philippines
| |
|
|
Totally, I agree that her next album and singles should sound like her mid-90's to be specific. It's her 30th and 50th anniversary as an artist and as a person. Daydream is 25 this year. So, it's only fair to release an album like Daydream 4.0. Lyrics, sound, musicality and artistry in her current voice through an uptempo (Fantasy-like plus remix later), powerful love song ballad (OSD-like plus a duet or remix later), mid-tempo (ABMB-like), and well picked remake (OA-like) as the first four singles will be surreal if it happens.

Daydream 4.0 (91,964)
by Lainsky from Philippines
| |
|
|
Regardless whether Mariah will continue to be No.1 for the 3rd week or not, she and her team have to continue this seasonal momentum. Since 2020 will be her 30th anniversary year in the music industry as a total artist, I believe she has to go back and revisit once again her old sound where she became really famous globally. I hope and pray Mariah would release a "Daydream 4.0" album version in terms of sound, melody, lyrics, etc. In other words, a really pop album with a R&B flavor. I want another Fantasy (with remix later on), a pop ballad that many can relate to like OSD, a pop/R&B single like ABMB, another classic cover like Open Arms, and heartwarming R&B/pop like Looking In. I am pretty sure I am not the only lamb who misses her old sound. It would be interesting to listen now in her current voice. Merry Christmas to all.

She may have all these records now however, there's another record she will about to make after Christmas. That is, the biggest drop from the No.1 spot or totally out of Hot 100... a painful but understandable record though. Nevertheless, the song has made its way already.

Christmas Tree Farm is TS Christmas song dropped a couple of days ago. Well, it was also catchy but not as catchy and danceable compared to AIWFCIY. However, her popularity makes a lot of difference that it could prevent MC's 19th #1... or not.
