About Lainsky from Philippines:
A Mariah Carey fan since "Love Takes Time." However, "Butterfly" remains my favorite album of all time. Timeless!

The first time I listened to it honestly, I loved it. I agree with those who said that the sound is like the 90s or Glitter era for that was my first thought too. However, as I put it on repeat and got to hear it for several times already, it sounds more like OOC from E=MC2. And yes, it is hard to understand the words she's singing. Thus, I don't love it anymore but still like it. There's that very good vibe in it and the uptempo that we also want from her. As a theme song and not an album cut I have to say it is a really good song with a very positive message. Is it radio friendly? Not really sure. A potential hit? Maybe or maybe not. Just MHO.

Re: Videos (90,702) (90,713)

Interesting topic so, here are my fives best with short reasons why and the not so good videos. I don't think they are the worst. 1. Honey - The transformation and story line was a defining moment. Jaw-dropping. 2. Breakdown - The song and the showcased of her beauty through different styles are matched somehow. 3. Heartbreaker - A music video with story is always nice to watch not to mention the cat-fight with her alter ego. 4. We Belong Together - Perfect sequel to ILT that concluded the... again, you guessed it right... the first story. 5. Touch My Body - The funny story line and their character roles made the sensual song message light and funny. Runners up: Dreamlover, Always Be My Baby, and Fantasy. The not so good videos are lazily and poorly done IMO. 1. Auld Lang Syne 2. I Don't 3. I Want To Know What Love Is 4. GTFO 5. HATE U

OSD and other records forever (90,490)
by Lainsky from Philippines
| |
|
|
So, it finally happened. So what? Well, the mere fact that it's OSD that has achieved that record and hold it for more than two decades is something that stays forever along with all the records Mariah has set for the first time. Like I said in my previous post, records are meant to be broken but did OTR truly has broken the record? Yes and no. Yes, for the fact that it is now on its 17th week reign. No, for OSD has been there already and set the trend in which it cannot or no longer be beaten.

OSD and OTR 16-weeks record (90,447)
by Lainsky from Philippines
| |
|
|
Mariah and Boyz II Men's OSD has occupied the record as the single with the longest stay on the top spot for 16 weeks for more than two decades. It was tied with Despacito a few years ago or last year. OTR can break this record and proclaimed as the only single that spent more than 16 weeks on top and has broken the record set by MC and BTM. However, records like this are meant to be either retained or broken. And whether OSD will be tied or broken by OTR does not really matter much. OSD's record remains there and forever will be. It will not be gone. Besides, she has a few record titles to keep so, for the lambs, keep calm and stay sweet. No need to bash OTR. Mariah and records is and will always be there forever.

One of the best vocal and ballad, if not the best, of Mariah in her entire catalogue. LTW should have been released instead of Never Too Far back then. Oh well, it's all in the past now. Justice for Glitter has been served. I simply enjoy and play this album more than the TEOM and succeeding albums to be honest.

When it comes to my most precious item, I have to make it items because I refer to my collection of all her studio albums. Any other album can be gone but the studio ones cannot. Among these studio albums, my most precious is the Butterfly album.

Music Box cassette tape was my very first item of Mariah and it got played 2-3 times each day everyday until I purchased the Daydream cassette tape. Heavy rotation of all new items has become the theme lol.

Nice one Joachim. My very first memory was the black and white video of Mariah in Love Takes Time. Immediately, I fell in love with her voice, music, and artistry. Because of her, I stalked Billboard chart every week and enjoyed seeing her on top of the charts. Today, I simply enjoy her music.

Hmmm... nice theory Randy. I am still wondering why WYB reached only #15. By MC's standard that time, yes I can agree it was a flop but still went to #1 here in Asia. With your theoretical explanation, yes, #15 and the sales made sense.

Through The Rain, CTTA and then Hero. Although, when Hero came out, I bought the cassette tape album and played it more than TTR almost everyday.

Hey Randy once again I agree with what you said so, I won't challenge you. Although not totally with the order of the albums. Top 4 definitely are my top 4 too but I have to bring Rainbow down by a notch or two and bring Glitter up a bit together with TEOM. The rest is cool with me.

Article: Mariah Carey - Butterfly (88,766)
by Lainsky from Philippines
| |
|
|
After nearly 30 years, this album remains on the top of my list and my all time favorite album in the entire history of music. Butterfly, Breakdown, Honey, and The Roof will always stand out from the rest of her singles. My All, Fourth of July, Close My Eyes were all gems that I never skipped. It was a "defining moment" album of Mariah (IMHO) in her music career.

If this is true, I hope Mariah releases "Caution" with a video that has a story to be continued... on to "Giving Me Life" like ILT to WBT. She can release ANN along with "Stay Long Love You" later on.

Article: Mariah Carey kicks off the Caution world tour (88,233)
by Lainsky from Philippines
| |
|

Wow. This has to be an amazing show. A fan uploaded on YouTube some highlights and hearing Glitter tracks (one of her best works), more Caution cuts (especially the title track), YDWTD, MSG, and Looking In is quite refreshing. I just wish she retires (at least for this tour) singing Hero, VOL, Emotions, and Dreamlover to give other songs like Giving Me Life, Sweetheart, Butterfly, and Breakdown. Overall, nice setlist.

Gospel and Jazz album (88,195)
by Lainsky from Philippines
| |
|
|
Why not? I thought I am the only one or one of the many few who wished her to make a full gospel album. Since she's vocal somehow about her faith previously (Charmbracelet, TEOM, E=MC2) I even thought of an album title for her (Faith, Love,Hope or #FLH). However, I agree with Edward. At this point of her career and her voice, she can make ala Norah Jones jazz album or both in one album.

Article: 5 Songs by Mariah Carey that should've hit #1 (88,071)
by Lainsky from Philippines
| |
|
|
WYB and Butterfly, yes. I remember when Honey debuted #1 and then the video of Butterfly was released. I told myself that it will be her next song to hit the top spot of Billboard Hot 100. Only to find out in my big disappointment that they have changed the rule. Unreleased single commercially was not eligible to chart. What a blow back then. The same feeling went to Breakdown in which I believe could have been another No.1 hit. That was the time I started to think that there were people out there who would do anything to stop Mariah from breaking the Beatles record. Remember the controversies when she beat Elvis Presley? Anyway, I did not mind if the rest of this list has failed because they were just okay for me. However, to add my own list, Sweetheart, Lead The Way (which is impossible due to Glitter fiasco), Shake It Off, For The Record and Cruise Control, Standing O (which were all wrongly ended up as album tracks but huge potential commercially), and of course, Caution (hopefully).

Article: Mariah Carey's "I Don't" joins Hot 100 at #89 (88,039)
by Lainsky from Philippines

Caution released tracks are way better than this single. How come they have failed (With You, GTFO) to make it into the main chart like "I Don't"? At least this single was able to make a dent and peaked inside the Hot 100. Just wondering...

Caution the title track (87,990)
by Lainsky from Philippines
| |
|
|
Instead of "A No No", I wish Mariah releases the title track "Caution" in which she normally does ever since. I believe it is truly a very good single both for radio and fans. It has a potential to be a hit too IMHO. Puhleeeaaazzzzeeee MC.
