There's always a logical explanation for events such as this. Do you actually think Mariah (a 27+ in the industry) knowing fully well the millions watching home and abroad intentionally f**ked up this performance knowing the backlash it would create? This isn't the first time she has performed on New Year's Eve. Listen to her when she talks, you can even hear how low and flat her intonation is indicating a sore throat. Re: Yeah positive fans (70,463) (70,470) by Terna from Nigeria For someone who only makes an appearance here when you have something negative to say or a complaint to make (scroll down and read your own messages), I'm not surprised you're one of the "since the beginning" fans. You guys have a weird sense of entitlement like Mariah owes you something for being there from the start. The real lambs are those fans who love Mariah unconditionally, taking the good with the bad. Yes there might be things she does we might not agree with but we recognize she's human first and foremost which means she too is prone to error. The real lambs are those who have embraced Mariah's work wholeheartedly not seeing a divide (old Mariah/new Mariah crap) but instead a woman who has evolved, grown and changed over time for the better as is the way it should be. We trust Mariah's sense of judgement (after all she has kept going 26+ years in an industry that's difficult and stayed relevant all by herself ) and don't ridicule her, nor criticize in a destructive way. We stay optimistic and unapologetic when it comes to Mariah and recognize she's the best to do it ever (all caps) anyway you wanna spin it, I don't care who your fave is, he or she can never be compared to my fave - Mariah Carey, the best of the best. Lionel tour (69,872) by Terna from Nigeria Anyone see the pattern here? Her image overhaul for the better perception of who the artist Mariah Carey is. While Mariah's World targets the younger generation, this tour is for the older demographics kinda like a reintroduction to Mariah Carey. Believe it or not, Mariah's music (especially her hits) is the soundtrack to a whole generation even if folk don't wanna admit it, and nothing gets people like nostalgia. I think this is a very smart marketing strategy. Talk about TEOM level type exposure. The new era is gonna slay. Third song of the decade (have faith) and her signature song. Mariah Carey - the fan divide (69,244) by Terna from Nigeria There seems to be a great divide between Mariah's fans 1990-1997 and 1997-2016 or say present day. The former of when she was considered a pop artist and someone new in the industry, in contrast to someone who had paid her dues, proved herself and gained a certain amount of respect and freedom to be herself from 1997 onward, this reflected in her work immediately indicated by the jarring switch of the genre of music she made from pop to R&B/Hip-Hop. This single move Mariah made I feel is truly what set her levels above the rest and what has in the long run given her longevity. She followed and still follows her heart. Not what Tommy Mottola envisioned or oversaw in the past, but what was truly Mariah in her inner most core, and her love for R&B/Hip-Hop, music she grew up listening to and could relate to. The resulting body of work which reflects that time became her magnum opus - Butterfly a masterpiece of perfectly blended Pop, R&B/Hip-Hop, which Singers like Beyoncé and Rihanna often borrow from, testament to the impact of Butterfly; Mariah's blueprint. No one was talking about nodules but you were talking about lip synching which is why I called it to your attention, nodules could very well be the reason why she keeps lipping. It's not rocket science. "Unfounded assumptions" as you called it? Mariah Carey has nodules fact (all caps), her doctors, she herself and I think even her mum have confirmed it. Her voice has constantly kept changing with every era, fact. We aren't with Mariah Carey 24/7 (fact) so how do you know for certain she doesn't take care of her voice? Now that is an "unfounded assumption" as you put it. Because to me for someone who's had them her whole career, she still sounds great, and had to have been taking care of her instrument to be able to still tour, record and sing her 18 number ones back to back (Caesar's palace) seeing how difficult her repertoire is.
