How old are you Jake? I ask this question because you sounded really immature saying that. Like seriously? "The Art Of Letting Go" I dare say just might be the greatest song Mariah Carey ever wrote. It comes from a place no other of her songs, not even "Side Effects" came from. Lyrically, vocally, melodically, anyway you wanna spin it, that song is a masterpiece.

If I was to pick only one song to listen to that would be the song that started it all "Vision Of Love". I have played it so many times but still it gives me goosebumps.

Infinity music video (54,084)
by Terna from Nigeria
| |
|
|
The new video is everything I expected it would be, a video that captures this moment in time of her Las Vegas residency. Mariah is genuinely happy now you can tell just watching this video and I'm happy that she's happy. Wanted dem babies to have a moment in it too though. Lol. Enjoy the music guys, that's all I can say and if she bags another number one I'd be glad but if not she's set as a legend to infinity. Once the topic of music, songwriting and voices is brought up, Mariah Carey is number one. Her legacy, achievements and body of work speak volumes for her.

I love it. It's throwback but current at the same time. Lyrics are witty and pretty fast too though. It's a beautiful song and I love how she let it loose not holding back on the word "dream". Damn Mariah, this woman has a high voice. Lol. In a strange way it reminds me of her mermaid melodies.

Quit complaining (51,731)
by Terna from Nigeria
| |
|

Why is everyone complaining? I think they know what they're doing. This album is targeted towards the younger lambs who weren't around when the first one was released, it's updated to include her newer hits, also not everyone purchased it. I definitely plan on buying the whole album. Take note the old number ones has been removed from iTunes. Plus ever heard of hidden tracks?

I love the new cover, I think it's sleek. Look at her pose, she knows she's a queen lol. And that album title, wow this chanteuse ain't playing this year, she's bringing her A game. Mariah is gaining her confidence back, she is coming for that Beatles record. The butterfly has the infinity math symbol incorporated into it.

Cleaning house (51,516)

Did someone say new single? I'm so exited. Mariah is cleaning house. I feel like she indeed has been reading our conversations here and making mental notes, remember when we hinted bout her team being too relaxed and not doing their jobs? Cindi would be at the top of that list and I'm glad she's been replaced. Lol. Mariah is giving this another go, a true fighter. She's going to come back on top where she belongs.

Your anniversary (51,176)
by Terna from Nigeria

Happy birthday Mariah. If you do get to read this, I want you to know how much loved you are and how grateful to God we all are for creating someone as beautiful as you both on the inside as well as out that we can look up to and be inspired. Never ever change, remain just how He created you, in his own image and watch him uplift you even higher than He already has. Lots of love and do have a beautiful day.

No offence Eric but did you really read and get my meaning well, before you tried to embarass me and instead ended up embarassing yourself? You do realize I quoted "Can't take that away" (Mariah's Theme) and not "Hero" right? You of all people should know that. When she says youth she was refferring to her first album "Mariah Carey", she was just 20 when she released that album. Isn't 20-something considered to be one's youth or prime? I would love to believe Mariah's songs are deep, mostly about her life experiences and come from a place of substance, not just shallow songs. But oh well to each his own.

Illuminati, food for thought (51,044)

You know these lyrics all too well guys. "This goes out to you and you. And you, you know who you are." "They can say anything they want to say, try to bring me down." "And they can't bring me to my knees." And the Bible verse from IWYW: "They have greatly oppressed me from my youth, but they have not gained victory over me." Who do you think Mariah is talking about or referring to? I see some of us are just more sensitive and observant than the others. Smh.

She is Mariah Carey. Let that sink in for a bit. Don't think even for a second she doesn't know what she's doing. 25 years in the business and still relevant is a big, big deal. Throughout 2004 no one knew what she was up to, we only saw her a few times and then there came 2005. History does repeat itself.

Reunion (50,697)
by Terna from Nigeria
| |
|
|
Contrary to popular lamb belief, I don't think even if Mariah reconnected with Walter today that they would be able to recapture and recreate that magic they did for 8 years. I think that's long enough by the way, just enjoy the music they created and don't live too much in the past. That was a different time, a different Walter and a different Mariah Carey. A lot has happened to change them either for good or bad and believe me that would reflect in the music if they were to reconnect today. It just wouldn't be the same.

I applaud him for voicing his opinions and concern on Mariah Carey. He's just keeping it real and giving constructive critisism, while hinting it's a much talked about topic in the industry. I was so disappointed when I saw the clips of the Jamaican gig, like really? Is this the quality of performances you intend giving at Las Vegas? If yes then I'm afraid Mariah would be the first act ever to have thier Vegas residency terminated prematurely as a result of inconsistency and sloppiness. Now won't that be a shame? It's so tiring reading all the negative comments everytime Mariah performs. What happened to this woman? Her stage pressence, poise, confidence etc. Now its more about ensemles, hair, makeup, butterfly drinks, nail polish and all the crap I know for a fact didn't make me a fan and don't get me started on that crappy entourage she keeps around her full of "yes" people, who have gotten too familiar to even take their jobs seriously, anyone recall the ridiculous mixup when "The art of Letting Go" was released? Exactly my point. Get your sh*t together Mariah, you're beginning to piss off even your hardcore fanbase.

The love (49,445)

You know how for years it's baffled us as fans why Mariah Carey after all her success, accolades, records set and broken hasn't really been acknowledged with admiration and respect that she rightfully deserves, right? Well I have a feeling that the table has been turned. With her silver anniversary in the industry people are rediscovering Mariah, her extensive body of work that is unparalleled, and the icing on the cake, her longevity. 25 years and still relevant is no joke. Wow I am so proud of this woman, she's a fighter in every sense of the word and a winner (as Tyga pointed out). Listening to the Fifth Harmony record made me smile. Carey like Mariah. Lol.

Heavenly (Can't give up/No ways tired) (47,975)
by Terna from Nigeria

This song is so uplifting and healing. Everytime I listen to it, there's this calm and reassurance I experience. Also her voice on this track is on another level entirely (those high falsettos and whistles cut like steel), I haven't heard her sing with such raw emotion and power since "Fly Like a Bird". I remember watching "House of Payne" a while back and there was this episode where the character Cassie Davis plays sang this song when her son Calvin got shot and was battling for his life in a coma, I was very touched by that episode and came to realize then that it's a faith song first and foremost and then a Victor's song too. So immediately I saw it on the tracklistings as the album closer, my heart smiled. I am glad Mariah covered this song and interpreted it in such a powerful way, I do want Mariah to go full-on gospel. Now that would be a career defining moment.

The tour and her voice (47,641)
by Terna from Nigeria
| |
|
|
There was so much to be said with the first show in Tokyo Japan about the current state of her voice with some even questioning if she still had it, forgetting Mariah hasn't performed in 4 years, that's a long time. I guess nothing can be said now. The haters have been proven wrong once again. Makes one even wonder why they keep trying smh. I have a feeling Mariah is gonna re-release MIAM again or even a totally brand new album next year 2015, with once again killer vocals seeing as the tour is putting her voice in a great place, reminiscent of the Charmbracelet tour before The Emancipation Of Mimi.

The number 5 (45,996)
by Terna from Nigeria
| |
|
|
5 is Mariah's lucky number. I'll tell you why. Its a number that reoccurs one too many times in her career to just be a coincidence, so lets count. Mariah has a voice that spans 5 octaves, her first 5 singles ever to chart all reached the pole position on the Billboard charts. Her fifth album "Daydream" released in 1995 (the year Mariah turned 25) is her biggest LP until today. "One Sweet Day", the biggest song from the album, spent 16 weeks atop the Billboard (a record she still holds) is recorded logically by 5 people, counting the 4 members of Boyz II Men and Mariah. The song coincidentally is her tenth number one on the Billboard chart (a multiple of 5). The Emancipation Of Mimi released in 2005 as Mariah turned 35 was an even bigger album than Daydream containing the monster hit "We belong Together" which cemented her legendary status, proving this endearing chanteuse was here to stay. On We belong Together Mariah sings the final chorus in the fifth octave landing on C5, that final belt is the longest in recorded pop history. Wow so many fives lol. Now do you still think it's a coincidence?

Your post made me smile. Its funny but kinda strange how our experiences are the same as Mariah fans, yet were totally different people in different locations lol. I also agree with your observation that Mariah hasn't changed the way most stars do and totally lose themselves in the process. It's truly all in her eyes, those big bright bambi innocent eyes. She's only wiser now and knows the power she possesses - that voice.

Camouflage, wall of voices (44,179)
by Terna from Nigeria
| |
|
|
I have this song on repeat, sitting here with a smile on my face, just reveling in the beauty of this album and especially this song. It sounds like something that was left off Music Box straight outta '93 (I swear I hear the Price sisters on backup lol). Has anyone else noticed her use of a "wall of voices" effect on this new album? In the past Mariah used it to great effect, most notably ATYNAF and Music Box particularly. With this new album MIAM, she revisits that technique once again and the results are stellar. My fave tracks include Faded, Cry, Dedicated, #Beautiful (I loved this one since last year), You're Mine (did you notice the matchstick sound?),Make It Look Good, You Don't Know What To Do (someone needs to shut that Wale up, he's getting in the way of the vocal performance lol), Supernatural, Meteorite, The Art Of Letting Go (outstanding), Money and Heavenly. 9.5 Stars out of 10.

Me. I Am Mariah....The Elusive Chantuese (43,978)
by Terna from Nigeria
| |
|

I purposely stayed away from reading this message board and the many different opinions floating around about the new album, because I wanted to have my own opinion about the music without being subconsciously biased as a result of something negative that might have been said. Having said this, I have heard the album in its entirety and I absolutely love it, every single song (a first with Mariah) I didn't skip any song, it really has no fillers. Of course with every Mariah Carey album maybe I'll have favorites, but for now it's too early to tell. One track though that stood out, hit me with goosebumps and gave me that euphoria only Mariah can give was "Supernatural" the melody, the production, the raw power and grit she sings with and the giggling of dem babies, Perfection. There's love overload on that track. Lol.
