Hello Bradley. Welcome to the board. Nice first post and very poignant. You are like an early sunrise similar to how Billy Dee Williams surprised Dominque Devereaux on Dynasty during his debut episode.

Imagine (104,058)
by Bradley from South Africa

Imagine knowing that the ones you feel closest to are waiting for your next move so that they can decide whether it's your reclamation, or whether it's your demise. And we're all so entitled. We've been here for her entire career so she will always owe us something. We'll give her our unconditional support, and then we'll set the conditions for our support. How dare we consider that her life's issues have caught up with her and have slowly eaten away at her over the last few years. How dare we even think that those issues could hamper almost every effort she makes. And now that we know she's working on new music, we'll set our standards for a possible success, and she better pray hard that she impresses us.

Twitter Spaces (104,059)

Why hasn't MC done Twitter Spaces in awhile? I think that it has been about 9 months since the last one. I thought about Twitter Spaces because she told us that she was doing this and she was working with this person and this young male singer the last two times. I hope something happens in 2024.

Not sure what to do (104,048)

These concerts are probably going to make us know that MC has her voice back or she will never get it back. It's hard to believe that her performance of The Distance on late night TV in 2019 was the last time she truly performed live without a pre-recorded track.

Not sure what to do (104,043)
by Jamie from UK

I'm gonna be in NYC on 9th December with work. I'm not sure if to go see Mariah at [Madison Square Garden]. Firstly [because] I've had too many holidays this year and need to save. And also mainly [because] I don't want to go and be disappointed. I've seen the Christmas show already and have been lucky enough to go the Daydream, Rainbow and Charmbracelet, Sweet Sweet Fantasy and #1's tours. I missed the [Caution] tour due to being away for my mums 70th. I'm worried if I go and she's not up to par it will upset me and don't really wanna see her not being able to hit the notes. Maybe it's best I hold onto the memories. What [do] you guys think?

Mariah confirms she's done 10 songs for new album (104,038)
by Bobby A from United States

Great point Bill. If Alicia, Janet, Betty Wright and Tina can do it, then surely MC can do it. I feel MC likes to have a label's financial support behind her because of the feeling of having her financial security taken from underneath like her mother had happened after the separation from Alfred Roy. Just my thoughts.

Mariah confirms she's done 10 songs for new album (104,036)
by Bill from the UK
| |

|
Surely by now the old girl could just finance the damn album herself. All this talk of her shopping around for a record deal is humiliating. She has the resources and star power to go it alone. All she ever does is complain about how such and such a single wasn't pushed, wrong song choices, was told to take songs off she liked, record company politics and blah blah blah. Put your money where your mouth is and go it alone. Tina Arena did so with her latest album because she was tired of the industry and being overlooked, despite being very talented. It did exceptionally well in Australia and was an excellent album too.

Okay, I understand. Love Takes Time is MC at her best. If we could just get back to that type of ballad, just maybe the Grammys will recognize MC with several nominations and awards in the near future. I really feel that she has gotten the memo. Plus, she is older now and she can't have rappers featured on her songs as much.

Eh. Give me Love Takes Time any day of the week.
Speaking of Love Takes Time, I noticed today that on the Qobuz streaming app (I'm one of 5 people in the world who use it, rather than Spotify as the sound quality is so much better), the version of Love Takes Time on the debut album has been replaced with the single version that was released on the single variants (CD, cassette and vinyl single releases).
Most people don't notice it, but on the single version, the high note during the "feel that you do inside" line at the end of the bridge is pushed way, way back into the mix so you can barely hear it. The album version however has it much more prominently placed. The Greatest Hits and #1s albums retain the original version. I wonder why this got switched? Is this the same for Spotify and the others, I wonder.

I know, but I am hoping it is a male this time. While we are on Taylor Swift, tell me why does every record store that I go into has their wall aligned with all of her vinyl records or a display stand in aisle. MC never got this treatment in the early 1990s. I remember hunting through the CD bin trying to find the CD maxi single of Can't Take That Away.

I think that only happens [once] in a lifetime. As much as I loved Whitney and like Celine, they couldn't quite get to me like Mariah did. While Whitney's voice was more powerful, Mariah's artistry was far superior and her voice more nuanced. Whitney would make any song presented to her sound as if she had written it. Mariah was more like a painter and decorative painter all in one. I don't remember anybody who could put together complicated background vocals like Mariah. Had social media been around back then, Mariah would've been twice bigger than Taylor [Swift.] I can't name a song by Taylor Swift, but the woman is a phenomenon.

Absolutely. I think one reason why Taylor Swift is so big is because there's no real competition anymore. There's only Adele in that age group. Compared to the 80ies and 90ies the music biz is really boring and almost dead. I had to google who Saint Harison is and started a song, but I couldn't listen more than 30 seconds. Bill I have the same thought. The voice is strange and unpleasant to my ears. I will listen to Marvin Gaye's album "What's goin' on" tonight. Masterpiece. The rythmn of "Inner City Blues" always gets me, music used to be so good.

Did you check out his brillant performance of Ego Talkin on Jimmy Kimmel this week? You got to YouTube his performance. Somebody has been truly studying Mariah Carey. I am not making it up either, Andy. He said it in his Apple Music interview discussing his EP Lost A Friend. His vocal technique and phrasing is just like MC. Also, Daley is back on tour in January.

Your comparisons are quite correct: nobody would expect any professional at the top of their game to return to the field in which they dominated after sustaining an injury. I also agree that Mariah should not talk about her voice in public, and she knows it. Maybe in a few years time, if she dains to produce a second book, she may talk about it then, but until that time, she will remain tight lipped. And speaking of which, she is far too reliant on her auto-cue to move her along in the script of the show, to know the next line of the song, and still she can get caught out. I agree also that her desire to perform has greatly deminished, and I think at this point, that is to be expected. But then again, I think she's in a very odd positioning that few of her peers can relate to. She isn't Beyonce, Gaga or Madonna - who rely on the theatrics of the stage. She isn't having the hits that she once had, so she can't rely on that aspect of the business. There isn't much money in the music industry unless you have an AIWFC type of song, or are Taylor Swift, so she can't rely solely on music for her main income (which is why she has all the deals at Christmas), and she's beyond the point of where she could easily pivot and do what Rihanna, Kelly and J. Hud have done, which is to fully diversify and fully go into other opportunites outside of music for their coin. Who else in her peer group can relate to this state of career limbo? I think her continuing to put on shows, does stem from the deep seeded fear she once spoke of, of having the rug pulled from underneath you. She and her family live and extravegant lifestyle and all her income comes solely from music, which I've already said doesn't pay much anymore. So I think that she feels she has to continue on putting on shows to still bring in the money, and why not when it's such an easy goldmine to delve into until people are tired of it. It doesn't matter how much she is worth, that feeling doesn't fully ever subside or go away.

MC doesn't have that energy like she had before Memoirs. Her total artist package diminished after E=MC2. After Memoirs, MC became dillushioned with the music industry. Every album after 2008 failed to reach the masses. Every single tanked at on charts. Her vocal ability was being questioned by everyone. The focused and driven MC checked out years ago.

It's hard to find a comparator for a singer but when a tennis player has an injury they do not sign up for a circuit of Grand Slams and tournaments. When a rugby player has a pulled hamstring, they are taken out of the season. If you can't sing, don't get on stage - and charge money for it?
This sounds mean, maybe it is. And I think if people know what's going to happen and they buy tickets to it, then I'm all for that. But very majorly supportive of people like Adam who chooses not to buy high-price tickets to something very average. The Caution tour was Mariah's first tour in the UK I didn't attend since the Rainbow tour. Because I, likewise, didn't see the point. I'd rather spend the money on a vacation - which is what it costs now.
However, I think you're missing the crux. It isn't that Mariah isn't signing so much, it's that she doesn't move, she doesn't banter much, she doesn't do much of anything. I remember attending the Christmas show at the O2 not far from me: I could see she was reading an autocue of what to say. "I have my own reindeeeeer." That isn't just a loss of confidence, that's a loss of dignity, wouldn't you say?
When someone is asking Mariah to be prepared, it's a grave, grave state of affairs that this needs to be requested. But, I do hope she puts on a good show and doesn't fill YouTube with yet more toss.

Usher was interviewed on the Today show and he said that MC could make it on his list of performers to join him at his Superbowl Half-time show. There is good a chance that MC may be on his new Coming Home album dropping the same day as his Superbowl Half-time performance. There was a rumour this past summer that he had recorded a duet with a popular R&B diva. Also, he signed a new record deal with Epic-gamma under his independent label mega with L.A. Reid, who is the executive producer on the album.

Mariah, please be prepared for your upcoming Christmas shows. Please do not step on that stage looking and acting as if you are under rehearsed and don't know what to do on stage because we can tell when [you] aren't ready (which seems to be the norm unfortunately). Please be professional and have your voice ready. And make sure your pre-recorded vocals match what you can do live. We hate a rough transition from live to pre-recorded.

by Bobby A from United States

Let's just say MC's relationship with Sony didn't deteriorate until 2001. Rainbow was released without all of the label turmoil. Thus, leading the way for Sony to pour all of their money into the Glitter movie and soundtrack. Tommy was playing fair and nice to MC. The Loverboy Firecracker sample was released making the Glitter soundtrack bigger than Daydream in terms of album sales. The Grammys committee finally recognized MC for her amazing artistry. Grammys and multiple other awards were awarded to MC for her 2nd biggest album behind Music Box. Would this premise awarded us to have never heard Charmbraclet [sic]? Could MC's vocals on TEOM had been better because she would have never recorded Charmbraclet [sic]? Charmbraclet i[sic] s probably an album that possibly damaged MC's voice. Just me talking to a young friend who never listened to Glitter. He just remembers TEOM and the WBT radio phenomenon.

I just found out this service is no longer available to make your own CD. The in store FYE kiosk service ended in 2020 at the height of the pandemic. I used this service to make my own CD to have a physical copy of downloaded music. I just don't like listening to or storing music on my phone or a computer. I guess I will be forced to now. Does anyone know of another website where I can make a CD and have it mailed to me?
