I'm glad to see this too. I've purchased the single and I can't stop streaming it. I do hope it continues to grow. The friends that I've shared it with all loved it and all said it was "different" for her. Positive feedback so far. It's a fantastic song. Now if we can just get an album full of this.

I can definitely agree here. The lyrics in some songs gave me hope when I was going through stuff at a young age. And still do. MC's music has touched so many lives and will continue to do so. New fans and "Lambs" are born everyday. She's legendary.

Have you all ever heard of a YouTube channel called Black Music Archive? I used to watch his videos all the time, but the lambs are going in on him for his video he dropped yesterday. Him and his "experts" basically used the entire video to bash Mariah calling her whistle register a party trick. SMH.

I think the Rainbow remix should definitely be released during the month of Pride, like yesterday, the album probably in November when everyone's hearing AIWFCIY played everywhere. Please Mariah release the Rainbow remix already. It's June 3rd.

My favorite parts are "it's haaaard" and "I gotta think about it" and duh of course everything else the song offers. There's so many genres and music styles used in a 16 minute song that it offers something different for everyone. Also, I love Mariah's laughter on any song, it is so sweet. Such a good song. Her ballads make the best House and Club mixes. I'm so excited for the Rainbow Club Mix we've been promised with the Rainbow 25 celebration. Happy Pride Month to anyone celebrating themselves and/or loved ones.

This afternoon I was listening to the Portrait remix again (which has really grown on me, it really is a masterpiece) and it led me to revisit her other dance tracks (remixes) totally oblivious to the fact that Pride month has just started. Of course then I stumbled onto Spotify Pride lists and of course Mariah's impressive collection of house music was nowhere to be found. It wasn't that they were featuring younger artists only, there was plenty of Madonna. Only Mariah track on the list was Fantasy right at the end. So sad that her incredible house mixes haven't reached the masses. Spotify needs to up their game. Happy Pride month everybody. I can't wait for the Rainbow remix now.

Caution is probably better than TEOM (106,585)
by Libra Lamb from USA
| |
|

I kinda have to agree with you here. The success and bragging rights came after Emancipation. It paved the way and wrote the story for what we are getting right now, everything happens for a reason. Glitter was a disaster era but Emancipation was the big comeback that not many are afforded in the music industry. The voice. That was pure talent, don't get twisted. That same talent is still there and is saying "Don't count me out yet" with her latest releases. I don't mind getting a song here and there as long as they are Portrait remix quality. Xoxos and happy Pride Month Lambily.

Um no Sir, just no. The Emancipation Of Mimi was more than just a massive [era], that album literally saved Mariah from being a relic from the 90's, especially after the way her image, reputation and public perception had been dragged through the mud and negatively, intentionally altered by the media, since they held the narrative back then. Basically what they tried so hard to insinuate was that Mariah Carey was now a clown, not to be taken seriously at all. Smh. Until she was not, she deliberately took that narrative back and forced that respect, whether they liked it or not. She needed a monster hit not just a very good song but an undeniable classic, and that's exactly what "We Belong Together" was - a miracle and the kind of magic most artists don't achieve in their careers. This album out of all her other albums is in a lane of its own, and is also a crossing over from Icon to [legendary] status for her. "Caution" is Mariah resting pretty on her laurels safe, secure, untouchable and respected of course, with nothing more to prove. "The Emancipation of Mimi" make no mistake is the main reason for this.

The Rarities 2 expectations (106,568)
by Libra Lamb from USA
| |
|
|
Wow. There's been a lot of great answers from everyone, some songs I'd never heard of before. I'd also like to see a club mix of Underneath the Stars, I don't know if the one I downloaded like 20 years ago, and have since misplaced, was official but it was pretty good. I'm sure someone out there has it or something similar. Dreamy Club Mix or something like that, I haven't been able to find it since. The much anticipated and speculated Rarities 2 will probably be a mix of old and new like the first Rarities. I'm just glad there's a ton of music in the vault to keep us busy for many years to come. A brand new studio album would be preferred but maybe it's not her priority right now. I don't think we'll see old music videos surface, but I also didn't think we'd ever get an Underneath the Stars music video so you just never know with Mariah. The elusive chanteuse indeed.

The Rarities 2 expectations (106,567)
by BFF from United States
| |
|
|
I would like to hear Mariah's original recordings of songs that other artists ended up recording:
1. "I Lose Control" 2. "Help Me Find A Way to Your Heart" 3. "Someone to Hold" 4. "Always in Love" 5. "Last Chance" 6. "Head Over Heels" 7. "After" 8. "Make You Happy" 9. "Where Are You Christmas?"
I'd also love to have b-sides, international bonus tracks and other odds and ends in one place (i.e. "There for Me", "Right to Dream").
I'd like to hear unreleased songs from the Glitter and MIAM sessions. There seems to be quite a bit of music leftover from this those periods. The "Glitter" sessions really extend from 1997-2001 because she was working on the project at various times throughout that period. And, of course, "Me I Am Mariah" was originally "The Art of Letting Go" and those sessions went from 2011-2014.
I'd also love to hear unreleased material from the debut sessions as well. Ditto for any sessions from 1990-1997 if anything else exists from other albums.

Hi guys and gals and everyone in-between. What are you most expecting or hoping for on the unconfirmed Rarities 2 project? Myself, I am looking forward to There For Me to be officially released for streaming. It is such an amazing song, worthy of many people's wedding song from what I've read online. At this point I don't know if it belongs in the Rainbow album or the Glitter soundtrack, but whatever, irregardless, it is a fantastic song and the vocal prowess it took to deliver those notes leave me weak at the knees sometimes. Wow. So what song(s) would you like to see the light of day? Happy Friday's Eve. BTW I love the Portrait remixes, in case you missed it.

This song checks all the boxes for me. I absolutely love it, I have been playing these remixes non stop since the release. This is the kind of music that we need right now, reminiscent of her body of work. Pure genius. Also, I love Mariah’s speaking voice and so glad they sometimes use it in her songs. Everyone should be in ecstasy with these Hopeful Child remixes. My only complaint is that the Hopeful Child remix, 16 min 20 sec, is not long enough.

Spanish guitar ballad (106,499)
by Libra Lamb from USA
| |
|
|
I personally like all the variations of My All that we've gotten through the years only because they are done well. I Only Wanted is haunting and by far my fave. I do hope we get more of these or something with a Latin sound. Curating the next studio album will be tricky as hell and I would not want that job. We know MC has many songs in the vault and she's always creating. More JD collabs too please while we're at it. If it ain't broken, don't fix it. No disrespect to anyone and their opinions , that's just my two lil' cents. The Made For Me remix is kinda growing on me.

Spanish guitar ballad (106,492)
by Joachim Agerup Løkkevik from Norway
| |
|
|
Can we all agree that Mariah has to do new stuff for her next release? She already made four ballads with a Spanish guitar, do you really think what is going to put Mariah back in the spotlight is making music she did over 20 years ago? No, I hope she never does a ballad like that again. The two she wrote after My All are blueprints of My All.
Mariah has to surprise us and the rest of the public, something we have never heard of or would suspect, but it has to be authentic Mariah. And as we all know, Mariah can't be something she's not, she is unapologetic herself, I just pray she can do something completely different with her music.

by Libra Lamb from USA

I do like the remix, it sounds good to me. Will we see it on the charts? Not likely. But I don't think MC is chasing the chart positions just yet. More like exposure and a reminder of what she brings to the table before we get a studio album. Fingers crossed we get a new album this year. I hope more people like and enjoy this remix than not. It could've easily been a track in MIAMTEC or even Caution. Don't like the blank single cover. Reminds me of I Don't, which I don't listen to very often.

I think the reason why it seems like MC is fading behind Muni in the chorus is JD was going for that gospel style on the last chorus where MC is portraying the lead vocalist adding ad libs behind the last chorus to add more meaning to the song's closure.

Why everybody hates the girl we don't know (106,390)
by Libra Lamb from USA

We've seen a bunch of these JLo hate videos recently too, they are making the rounds on social media and YouTube. I actually almost started to feel bad for her but then I remembered what she did to Mimi and I got over that real quick. I hate it for her but we reap what we sow and it's finally caught up to her. This video was so interesting to watch. I remember Ashanti being very open about singing JLo's songs, but wow is that laundry list long of who's sang for her. Also, the shady comments about amazing actresses, if Mariah ever said something like that she would never come back from that, and would get the boot from Hollywood circles. I think JLo believes the world was waiting for her and Ben to get back together, and it's honestly the last relationship rekindle anyone asked for or cares about.

More Taylor (106,314)
by Libra Lamb from USA
| |
|
|
We can certainly uplift our favorite artists without having to put down others. There's room for everyone to share the spotlight or take turns on top. Mariah has had much more success than most people can even imagine. She's got nothing left to prove and Taylor's success does not match or take away from Mariah's accomplishments. While Taylor's music is not for me, I can see her appeal to the masses, and no, it's not her skin color. While I agree that there's a lot of chart manipulation going on in the music industry, this level of success is due to the fans and her mass appeal and not a conspiracy theory. Who knows, one day we may even get a collaboration between these two like we did with Ariana, who we all thought would never happen.

More Taylor (106,308)
by Tony Lorenzo from UK
| |
|
|
Sorry if I came off aggressive. I just hate that Taylor had been brought up here, as though there is any need for even the comparison. Countless singers write their own songs. Bringing them into the convo together compares the two by default, and I find that is an insult to Mariah.
The main reason Taylor is where she is lets be honest, is white supremacy. She is being lionised and lovesd cynically by a bunch of adults in the media industry, when in fact she's a singer for teenybopping teenage girls who does not deserve to be taken as seriously as she is. She fits their model of skinny, blonde and white and is thus the perfect emblem, talent or no talent.
They basically use her to bring Beyonce down a peg or two. Beyonce is the biggest star of the moment in terms of talent and output, and they are pushing Taylor to get her sales and revenue to surpass Beyonce so that we can't say a black woman is the biggest star on earth. It is disingenuous and obvious, and I would expect more people to have seen through it.
Beyonce's tour sells in record numbers so they do everything they can to hype Swift so that her numbers are bigger. They won't allow a black woman to be on "top" and to push that into our faces, they've made sure the new star represents everything they say is the standard of excellence. When we can all see and hear how utterly ridiculous it is. It is a form of gaslighting.
Taylor Swift is one of the most mediocre artists I've ever heard. The lyrics are basic and for little girls to pretend they have dramatic relationships they don't actually have, her voice is no better than completely average, and barely that. She can't dance. Her chords are badic, but they ser the benefit in showing her with the guitar because it adds authenticity and cements that she is a "musician". Fine. But a mediocre one.
That is why even bringing her up on a Mariah message board annoys me. We're talking about one of the literal greatest artists of all time and then dragging her down with reference to someone who is just being used to gaslight everyone especially black people. They are so fsr removed from each other that even vaguely acknowledging Swift is a writer is annoying.
Lastly, Beyonce writes more of her lyrics than you think. We should know as music lovers rhar RnB is renowned for samping, both words and sounds. These samples have to be credited. Beyonce uses many samples. That does not mean she doesn't write lyrics. It just means that multiple people get a credit on a song, if she merely uses a word or line or production sound from another song. Black music has always had a referential element to it. We can't say Beyonce isn't a proper curator of her own music just because she samples a lot. We know this because she had a specific sound herself across all her music. If it was the case everyone else wrote her stuff and she merely added a word her collection if music would sound sound radically eclectic, and it doesn't. Beyonce is very clearly there in all her music. To denigrate her while conceding Swift is a writer is to me insane and proof that media manipulation works on simple minds. Sorry.

Why should I respect an artist who has ride on other artists' coattails to succeed? You can take away Diddy, Dr.Dre, and the other collaborators, and see what happens. Then again, it could be jealousy on the part of the voters. Everything that she does gets crazy coverage in the press. Therefore, they resent her for it. I would resent it too, if my ceremony got worse ratings than a MC Christmas special.

You got Me feat. Freeway and Jay-Z - She gives the same vocal style in this song which went to #3, "I Know What You Want/Where I Belong".
I Only Wanted or Bringing on the Heartache
The One (original)
Through the Rain, show that vocal, excite people (*the finale single dhalings*), close it out with the emotional song - Portrait, Outside. etc.
I think as a lead single "Thought the Rain" wasn't what people wanted, we were still only coming off the dance beats of Rainbow and the Glitter soundtrack. I think an upbeat/dance song from Charmbracelet would have been celebrated at the time.
What are your thoughts?

I remember when MTV premiered the music video for It's Like That and thinking wow, this is a new sound for Mariah but falling in love with the song and the music video immediately. My friends were listening to the radio in Atlanta when they heard me call in and request Don't Forget About Us, they still remind me and we laugh about it. I loved this era, nobody could tell Mimi anything because she owned every part of this. Love love love.

You know what's funny? I remember the exact highway on-ramp I was taking on March Rd. headed to Downtown Ottawa when suddenly "It's Like that" came on the radio for the very first time. I was stunned there was a new MC single and almost drove off the over pass bridge. The DJ radio introduced the new song for the very first time with these exact words: "I don't know why she keeps trying, but we have to play it, so here it is." And boom clap clap clap the new legendary era began. That DJ will go one to be playing new, beloved, Mariah songs for the next 4 years (from "It's Like That" to "Obsessed"). He must have felt like a fool after the fact. It's one of those Mariah memories of hearing new music for the first time glued to my heart and brain.

New single (106,106)

I hope we get a fresh new single that radio will be dying to get their hands on, like the old days. One can dream, right? It's been too long since the last one. I thought GTFO and With You were gonna be big hits and sadly was disappointed. I guess we'll see.

New single (106,096)

When MC does release something new, it's going to be a day of celebration. However, something tells me that her days of huge radio impressions on pop radio will never happen again with anything new. Maybe I am wrong. And this dry season has to been her longest time ever without releasing new music. When you start listening to MIAM reminiscing about the good old days, then it's been a long time since we have had a new Mariah Carey song that was hot on the charts. Lol.

Musicals (106,103)
by Libra Lamb from USA

People are so desperate to have their name attached to Mariah Carey that they reach anywhere they can, they know her name will bring much needed publicity to their otherwise mundane articles. Glitter is most definitely not a musical. Not to mention the soundtrack is nothing short of amazing, and they know that. Desperation calls for desperate nonsensical articles and rankings. If we're going to talk about the worst musical, Mean Girls recently released as a musical is by far the worst I've seen in a long time. My husband and I could not sit through the entire thing. They almost ruined the original for me, almost. Glitter may not be good, by most people's standards, but I still love it and give it a pass because it's Mariah Carey at her campiest. If anything, blame the director Vondie Curtis Hall.

So collider.com named Glitter the worst musical ever. Cats was number 2. Does anyone consider Glitter a musical? I'm not saying it's amazing, but it's not a "musical".

Academy recognising Glitter (106,085)

I think you hit the nail on the head Joachim. I never really pieced it together but it makes sense the way you explained it. I happen to love Charmbracelet because the songwriting was phenomenal and the melodies were great even though it was not a typical Mariah Carey album. Also wrong single choices. But not everyone has heard of it or given the album a fair chance. I Only Wanted, Subtle Invitation, Miss you ( feat. Jadakiss) and The One (both original and So So Def Remix) are my favorites. Shout out to Got a Thing 4 U.

I actually think the reason why Mariah sounds so restricted on Charmbracelet had everything to do with Glitter and her breakdown. I think she felt the world really was tired of everything Mariah, especially her voice, many people back then complained that she was just shouting, not that this had anything to do with reality. Mariah was overexposed after the 90's, much like the risk Taylor Swift is taking now.
Charmbracelet shows a Mariah that is scared to annoy or pushing more people away, almost to the point of self extinction. She did exactly what people wanted her to, become a shadow of her self, almost a different artist singing wise. Well, we all know how that turned out, it's her most forgotten and least interesting album, only positive is that it felt really personal. I'm glad she came back in 2005 wanting nothing else than to be herself, showcasing every part of her voice. If you can sing like Mariah Carey, why would you ever try to disguise that?
