AIWFCIY (103,581)
by Bobby A from United States
| |
|
|
I just thought about this today. With so many millions in radio impressions and streaming sales, why doesn't AIWFCIY make it to #1 on the Urban AC, Hot AC, and Adult Comtemporary charts too? This question came to my mind because feel something special is planned this year for AIWFCIY by the label or MC.

Essential II Mariah Carey or very best of cd (103,572)
by Bobby A from United States
| |
|
|
The previously released Essential Mariah Carey cd is quite boring with too many of the same tracks already on her #1's collections, Greatest Hits cd and Playlist: Mariah Carey cd. I think it is time to release Essential Mariah Carey II cd with the 2nd disc containing eight fan favorites and eight rare and remix tracks including Skydiving, Right To Dream, Beautiful# Hermosa, Triumphant (Vintage Throwback Mix), Shake It Off ft. Jay Z (Remix), Bye Bye ft. Jay Z and Lil Wayne, Crybaby, You're Mine ft. Trey Songz, Can't Take That Away (Morales Club Mix Edit) and Always Be My Baby (Mr. Dupri Mix). These tracks are my favorite MC tracks for a roadtrip. We need a more rounded and representative look back now that MC has been business in 30 years. Arista and LaFace have released some fantastic Toni Braxton collections including her Essential collection. I will not be buying another #1's collection from MC. I am over those type of collections. Lol. Don't believe me.

I Don't Wanna Cry (103,565)
by Bobby A from United States

I thought about this IDWC this morning. It kind of reminds me of WBT in 1990. I know MC and Narada disagreed during the recording of IDWC because MC kept adding vocals to what he thought was the final version. I would love to hear the two versions side by side one day. I am pretty sure Narada's version is the one on the album. By the way, I hope we hear Lose Control one day too.

Imperfect (103,562)
by Bobby A from United States
| |
|
|
I would love for Imperfect to remixed as a club version and brought to life by Gorgon City or Disclosure. They are known for taking a song and injecting some life into the track. I wonder if The Dream and Tricky Stewart are actually the writers on Imperfect because it does not sound like a The Dream collaboration.

#Beautiful (103,553)
by Andrew from the UK
| |

On the way home today I was listening to music from around this era - including #Beautiful, The Art of Letting Go and Triumphant. I am getting a new rekindling for this era. And especially Triumphant. I used to quite dislike it. It's really fresh sounding still. Really awesome to listen to.

Triumphant (103,560)
by Bobby A from United States

I think MC envisioned the video at the same time she wrote Triumphant. The MC is like the cheerleader who cheering on two contenders in the song and video. It worked for the video, but not for radio airplay and live performances.

Triumphant (103,559)
by BFF from United States

I think "Triumphant" had potential, but she should have scaled back the guest artists. I also remember one of the complaints about "#Beautiful" was her lack of presence on her own song. I love "#Beautiful" as a record, but I do remember wondering why Mariah was featured so little on her own song. I suspect that Miguel had already partially written/recorded the song before he and Mariah decided to collaborate.

I think a David Guetta and Mariah Carey collaboration would be an instant radio hit. There is not one bad song that he's ever done for a major artist. Fred Again would be a nice collaboration too. I am hoping for more dance songs on the new album.

1. Love Takes Time made it onto debut album because Tommy said it was too good to be saved for Emotions. 2. MTV Unplugged showed that Mariah was more than a studio singer. 3. One Sweet Day spends 16 weeks at number #1 on the Billboard Hot 100 which had never been done before. 4. We Belong Together saved TEOM. 5. I Want To Know Was Love Is becomes a surprise hit in Brazil when it spends 25 weeks at number #1.

Happy 26th to the real magnum opus (103,519)
by Andrew from the UK

Do not pity yourself: pity the blind and stupid for not noticing your greatest. You are as a part of space and time as any atom at any point in the stretch of the knowable Universe. Nothing - and nobody - takes precedence over you in any objective moral reasoning. No atoms are more or less entitled to existence than the billions of which you are made. You are the perfect version of you surrounded, merely, by imperfect interpretations of you. We are all made of stars. And we all shit. Dry your eyes, Bobby-A. Or I don't even know you.

Randy, your post about Butterfly brought tears to my eyes. Your comments are spot on. I remember Butterfly and how every song that year in 1997 was my life. It was the joy of Honey to the alienation in Outside that spoke about how my mother was treating me because she had a gay son. I must stop typing now to the wipe the tears from eyes. Butterfly is the real magnum opus.

Happy 26th to the real magnum opus (103,514)
by Randy from USA

While everyone is celebrating Music Box and incorrectly calling Daydream MC's artistic zenith, I'd like to interject and celebrate the real magnum opus, Butterfly, which turns 26 today. On this day, 26 years ago I unwrapped the cellophane off of this CD in my fathers basement and popped it in the disc changer. I never before heard an album where every song is a single. Every verse reads like poetry. And every vocal is astounding. Rasp, falsetto, belting and whistles are all used here. My biggest issue with R&B music is artists always sing about romantic love or break ups. This Pop/R&B album includes songs about childhood pain and alienation. It is in one word stunning. Happy anniversary to Mariah's favorite. And the best album of all time. From any artist.

My comment was out of concern for Mariah and nothing else. As a dedicated lamb from the beginning, I can be concerned and question things as I see them. You choose to follow blindly and that's ok for you. I want the best for MC and if something doesn't look right, I will speak on it. With that being said, I hope everything is ok and that we get to see more of her healthy soon.

It was only that I didn't want to ruin our MB 30 celebration and MC mania about new music since FILAC (a Christmas song). Also, I learned growing up in a small Baptist church is that you don't comment on someone's sudden weight loss. What I saw or heard at church stayed right on the pew or in the Sunday School classroom.

"Yes I do concur. I have thusly not kept silence on anything at all anywhere on any subject any time. But I have also thought for 14 days that Mariah was demonstrating said unspecified behaviour deviating from her normal abnormal self to the point of abnormality in that it was not normal. But I just decided to not mention this one thing ever. In all the things I say about Mariah - most of which, too, are completely without substantiation and me just guessing and throwing out random baseless opinions. But *this* I kept to myself."

While I'm enjoying this moment of MB30, I hate to be a negative Nancy, but did MC seem a bit "medicated" in those videos? She looked beautiful but something seemed a little bit off to me. I can't put my finger on it. I'm a very long time fan and can notice when she's a little different and there was something interesting going on here. Plus she's pretty much been MIA for a while. Maybe it's just me. Let me know what you guys think.

Has anyone decoded the "coat of arms" on the windows Mariah shows in her latest ""Dreamlover" tribute post where she is wearing the black and white flannel shirt? I think this is all very intentional on her part. It's a clue as to where she is (obviously) and what she is up to. I know September 15th will lend some insight too at MSG. I think it's a clue just like pointing to that poster of "I'm gonna need a bigger boat" from back around her birthday. Also, do we have to wait until 2024 for the physical forms of MB30 to be available, I read that somewhere. Thanks.

Daydream is Mariah's magnum opus (103,469)
by jaker20 from US
| |
|
|
Some say it's Music Box, Butterfly, TEOM, and some even say it's Caution or Merry Christmas, but that's only because she has so many.
But Daydream is really where she hit the pinnacle, when she got the most Grammy noms, and hit her 11th no.1. She could have said it's a wrap (no pun) at that point, but she went on and on and gave The Beatles a run for their money.
But Daydream is what I would call a perfect pop album, start to finish. You can sense a longing for more maturity here before she went full blow emancipated in Butterfly, the writing is some of her best, and the melodies are classics.
"Fantasy" is a just a perfect pop song and best example of sampling. It is so good that even the remixes are top notch bops and its stands out a rework such as BE. It even works so well as a film score in multiple variations because it just have so many facets. Rolling Stone putting at no.400 in their 500 greatest songs of all time is just criminal because I can't think of a more perfect pop song. Oh and the rest of the album slays too. Classics each one of them.

The Music Box 30th anniversary has stirred up in me a lot reminiscing about MC's remarkable career. I am wondering how a 2023 Ben Margulies collaboration would sound today. I am hoping there are some more Ben collaborations in the vault. He is in the same class of producers and songwriters that MC never worked with again after her debut - Ric Wake, Rhett Lawrence and Narada Michael Walden.

Crybaby (103,450)
by Bobby A from United States
| |
|
|
Crybaby was genius Mariah at her best. It has elements of hip hop, R&B, New Jack, and jazz all in one song. What other contemporary female artist has done that multiple times over. She doesn't receive enough credit for being a damn good songwriter. Her vocal acrobats and diva persona cause her songwriting skills to take a back seat sometimes. Timmy Gatling's creative differences with Aaron Hall of Guy brought me here because MC had the same creative differences.with Sony over Crybaby's release. It's ironic that one of the songwriters had creative differences over Piece Of Love that Crybaby samples.

Wow Mariah is looking in great shape, from her recent Instagram post. She really seems in a good place right now and taking care of herself. Let’s hope that with the added confidence of looking her best she starts to focus on giving us some new music and working on those vocals. Maybe reliving the [Music Box] era has given her the push she needed to remember how great she was.
