Jamie, stop being a glutton. If she keeps dropping new stuff now, we'll have nothing left by September 26. I know the wait is brutal, but hang in there. Besides, rumor has it there's a Mariah-only version of Sugar Sweet.

I'm sat here thinking it's not even September yet and the album isn't out for another 28 days. It seems to be dragging and definitely seems too far away now. I hoping there is gonna be something in between now and the 26th to keep the momentum going. I'm a Mariah fan and even I'm starting to loose interest in this dragged out process.

And that doesn't seem to be a mistake since the Billboard article clearly mentions only two collabos. I think Mariah released the remix first. Interesting.

What's wrong with MC (110,690)
by Edward from USA
| |
|
|
Did you see the video Britney posted on social media? She was dancing wildly with two huge knives, and the police ended up at her door. While I don't think she should lose all control over her life and finances, it's clear that some kind of support system should be in place to protect her from herself. Sadly, Mariah seems to be in a similar situation, she doesn't appear to have many people around her who truly care for her, even if the "hen" stops laying golden eggs.

What's wrong with MC (110,684)
by Dove from United States

I kind of wish she would be open and transparent about what's going on with her so we would know she's not being drugged against her will like Brian Wilson and Britney Spears were. It could be nothing but it could be something.
My ADHD got a lot worse when I hit perimenopause. Maybe something like that happened with her too. I haven't seen her with a champagne glass in her hand all the time like during the Infinity era. A lot of people with mental health issues (I guess, I don't know what to call it) self-diagnose with alcohol, and sometimes other drugs, so this is not me blaming her for liking her splashes or anything.
I want to mind my own business but (almost) everyone minded their business with Brian Wilson and Britney Spears for so many years and look what that did to their brains.
I hope she's just tired because she hit menopause, or some medication she's taking (with good benefits that outweigh the bad) is making her lethargic. If she came out and said it, we wouldn't need to be worried.
And yes, I know she's a celebrity but some of us have been following her since childhood and she feels more like a family member than a stranger. She's given a lot to the world.
I'm glad Brian Wilson found a sweet partner to take care of him in the 90's up until he died this year. I wish Nick would have been that for Mariah instead of the self-serving narcissist he turned out to be. How disappointing.
Selena Gomez came out and talked about the changes in her weight and demeanor being caused by medication she needed. I don't follow her super closely or anything but I remember seeing her talking about it and it made me feel more at ease about the changes in her personality. Like, at least there's a legit reason.

Vanguard Award - JLo? (110,678)

Jennifer Lopez has really only one truly award-worthy video and that's "If You Had My Love". The rest are pretty average. Mariah has many iconic ones. Here's my top 5: 1. Heartbreaker 2. Honey 3. Butterfly 4. Touch My Body 5. My All

I'm sorry, this didn't meant to be a "I don't know her" moment, but when I think of artists with iconic music videos, what video of JLo is iconic? I remember her in a pink hat in the I'm Real video, her dancing with Diddy in one of his videos and then a brief flash of strobe lights in the On the Floor, aside from that they are generally all just the same formula of video from the early '00s.

What if Mariah finally released "Someone's Ugly Daughter" alongside "Here For It All"? Or maybe she could let some of those unrelerased gems from the "Daydream" sessions out the vault. Her voice from that era was so distinctive, so honest. One can only dream.

I can hear those two songs as well, Zac. From what I hear on the snippet, HFIA has a pre-hook part where MC's buttery tone and falsetto shines before she belts "Baby, I'm here for it all." I bet the full song is fire. We should get the 3rd single after Labor Day. Maybe HFIA or the Anderson .Paak duet

Back to chart obsession (110,522)
by Edward from USA
| |
|

I still think that if "Sugar Sweet" had been released by any current artist, it would've been a hit. It's a very catchy song. It has written Summer all over it. It could've benefited from a punchy bridge though. These days artists are kind of lazy and bridges are becoming a thing of the past. In my opinion, #Beautiful needed one too, it's always seemed too short to me.

Back to chart obsession (110,516)
by jaker20 from US

It's like clockwork in this forum. I love Doja but collabing with her just to chart is pretty desperate. She's likely to out-chart Mariah, but who cares, as long as HFIA is as good as Caution, I will be happy. If we hope for a chart position for HFIA, we will be disappointed.
When Sugar Sweet was released, reception was extremely positive. But because it didn't chart, we don't like it anymore. The quickness lambs switch on her based on chart position is sad. She's really a victim of her own success.
I love the song, love the beat, it feels like a classic. It doesn't feel out of place to her catalog like that I Don't mess. And she's collabing and she increase their profile even a little. She's in her giving era, launching careers. I hope the song has its moment someday, I'm almost thinking it being a theme for a cooking show and it explodes lol. That's how IWTKWLI is Brazil when it became a theme for a show.

I would be a completely different person (110,511)
by Edward from USA

Be careful, Zachariah is a mouth shutter, he shuts people's mouth. Mariah couldn't keep singing "SS" because Kehlani and Shenseea weren't there to support her or maybe the song is very difficult to sing. There's also a possibility that Mariah couldn't hear herself. This is what I think is happening though: Mariah started defrosting too early this year.

by Rashidi Rahim Rick from Malaysia

I still remember whether in 1995 or 1996 during an international interview, Mariah said that if she didn't have the voice she would be a completely different person. So I guess the Mariah now that we have is the different Mariah from what she used to be. Having the voice back then helped her in building her confidence and her issues with insecurities. Now that she lost it, don't deny it guys, she is what she is now. She tried to sing Sugar Sweet acapella recently during one of that UK radio interviews and half way she realised that the voice didn't come out.

Here For It All (110,474)
by Edward from USA
| |

If I were Mariah, I would drop the album while the buzz is still hot, ideally within the next two weeks, while she's out promoting and the media is talking about it. It's clear now that the plan was for either "Type Dangerous" or "Sugar Sweet" to blow up and build momentum leading to the "Here For It All" release in September, but we're witnessing that's not how it's playing out.

Taylor Swift (110,471)
by Edward from USA

Exactly my sentiment. I love Bobby A's positive outlook, but having realistic expectations matters too. If "Sugar Sweet" had been released by Ariana or any other hot artist of the moment, I'm sure it would've taken off. Sadly, Mariah just isn't on most people's radar these days. We, her remaining fans, will always root for her, but it's becoming clear that the general public just doesn't connect with her as an artist anymore, almost as if they can't relate. That's why she hasn't been able to ride the wave of AIWFCIY into a big follow-up project. Maybe she's said everything she had to say, but until she starts singing from her heart again, I don't see anything changing.
I can only name one Taylor Swift song, and that's because it shares a title with one of Mariah's, "Shake It Off". I'm not a fan of her music, even though I did give "Red" and its twenty variations a try. But when fans in non-English speaking countries are willing to camp outside stadiums for three months just to see her, regardless of promotions or record labels, it's clear she's universally loved like Mariah once was, before her diva persona took over.

Taylor Swift (110,468)
by Norman from USA

It would be great if there were actually a battle. I don't think Swift's team has Mariah anywhere near their radar tbh. I know that amongst her fans, we're waiting with baited breath, but the GP doesn't have her on their radar either.
The two lead singles have had a positive reaction from the fans and have stoked a new sense of optimism amongst us as well, but neither of them are doing anywhere near well enough to be a threat to any upcoming album release.
I believe that it's going to hinge more on the album drop and how well it can garner attention in the r&b space, as opposed to the pop/mainstream space.
I still believe that a comeback single is entirely possible for her; some heartfelt song from out of left field with a great hook and thumping beat could do it. It's been said here many times before (I know I've said it), but it bears repeating - her heart's gotta be in it.
The thing that Taylor has brought to the table in her dominion of the charts, is a team with a lot of business savvy, sharp marketing skills, well crafted public image, and a no-holds-barred drive to plaster her everywhere. And while I think Mariah could benefit from a level of that (I think Gamma is trying-adjacent), I think Mariah is so done with that part of her career/life. She went from IDWC to I Don't Wanna Try. You know, it's kind of like when an introvert makes future plans when they're excited, and then as the day approaches, they hate themselves for making the plans. At least that's my take on it.
I'm cautiously optimistic about this new album after hearing the "Here For It All", snippet. I guess we'll see on September 26th.
But I'm glad you're still hyped for a big moment from this era. I like your take better than mine, if I'm being honest. Hope is always a good thing, Bobby A.

Just like there wasn't a chart-showdown in 2018, there won't be one in September. That's called living and reality. What I won't be is a "yass queen" acting like it's still the '90s or 2005. I have to agree with you about her vocals sounding a bit "chipmunkey" on the belting part of the "HFIA" clip. As for that impromptu performance of "Stay the Night", it was from about five years ago, during the pandemic. At the time, she said she'd gotten her voice back and wouldn't ever tour again, but sadly, that didn't last. I don't think she could replicate those vocals today; her voice is just too far gone.
Mariah is a perfectionist, so what we're hearing in the "HFIA" clip is most likely the very best she could deliver, chosen from multiple takes. It's sad, but I think this is simply where her voice is now.

I love Mariah but this does sound chipmunkey yet again. The rough thin belts are not going to be easy on the ears. Audio engineer who willingly went along and approved of this needs to be fired or he at least should encourage her to re-do some of the notes.
She can actually still belt so beautifully. Remember this? Emancipation-riah is still there like it's 2005. What I don't quite understand is why it's not translating sonically on the record. I really love the melody, she absolutely delivered on that front. But somehow, the overall sound just isn't hitting. Mariah, girl, there's still time to edit. Get an audio engineer who will keep it real.
Someone copy paste my comment on X, I'm not on it.

I don't want to be a Debbie Downer, but I'm not loving those vocals in the clip. Hopefully, the full song hits differently. Her voice sounds a bit strained here, though I do appreciate that it's a power ballad, we haven't had one from her in 11 years.

Bobby A, sometimes I think you live in an alternate universe. Mariah isn't competing with anyone with "Here For It All". She's a legacy artist now, her last 11-track album came out nearly a decade ago. It's more like when Streisand or other legacy artists release something: their core fans eat it up, but that's about it.
Back in the '90s, when Mariah and Whitney were killing it, did you really think any legacy artist from that time could compete with them? Exactly. So let's not pretend we're still in that era where a new Mariah release is a head-to-head chart battle. This is a completely different stage of her career.
Here's what will likely happen: the album drops, us Lambs grab it immediately, and within three or four weeks, it's gone from the Billboard Top 100 albums. Mariah's waited too long, and outside of us devoted fans, most people have moved on. That's not pessimism, just a dose of realism. Which is why I'm hoping it's a great album, one that earns solid reviews and a few well-deserved accolades.
In short, that chart-showdown you're fantasizing about? It's not going to happen.

I think Taylor Swift is going to drop The Life of a Showgirl on 09.26. She has not announced the release date yet, but peorders have started. If she does drop on 09.26, it will be bad for MC. Let's hope that is not the case. Vinyls are suppose to ship by 10.13. So that leaves 10.3 and 10.10 as the other drop dates.

One thing I'll say is that Bryan genuinely cared for her. It was reassuring to know he was by her side. But deep down, I think we all knew it wouldn't work in the long run. It was clear Tanaka wanted more than just to hang out and have fun, he wasn't just playing house. I believe at some point he even proposed, but Mariah turned him down. It makes sense that he'd move on from a relationship that wasn't going anywhere. He's young, and he probably wants a family.

Great music (110,409)
by Edward from USA
| |
|
|
I love the fact the board isn't stuck on the idea that great music has to equal chart positions anymore. These days, almost anything can blow up into a forgettable hit and disappear just as fast. Of course, I would like to see Mariah score a couple of big hits, but I'm not losing sleep over it. She's already proven herself time and time again. At the end of the day, the general public has the lard word on what catches on, and that's fine. Personally, I'd rather not hear any more new tracks before the album drops, unless it's a video or some fun remixes for "Sugar Sweet". I want to savor "Here For It All" the way we used to, sitting down, pressing play, and letting the whole album take me on a journey from start to finish.

For me that song is "Outside". That was the magic of her songs back then.

Yes I love Looking In. I feel the same about its lyrics and my life.
