I don't know how to feel haha. I think the chorus is too busy and her verse seems very reminiscent of an old song of hers I can't quite place it. I don't really see this song doing much for Mariah. May help Muni get some international lambs. I don't know what is Mariah's team's strategy. Instead of doing these side remixes that's not doing much for her, she should focus on her own projects.

Is MC's vocal technique still there? (106,406)
by Jamie from UK
| |
|
|
I'm not sure, MC seems to have lost her fluidity and depth of voice, and it doesn't run through the notes as it once did. I'd like to be proved wrong though.

Is MC's vocal technique still there? (106,402)
by Robert-Anthony from United States
| |
|
|
I was listening to random tracks on four albums today. They were the Mariah Carey, Butterfly, TEOM, and Caution. I chose those four albums because you can tell MC's singing style and voice significantly changed on those four albums. After my listening sessions, I listened to the Made For Me remix snippet. I love her alto voice now. I have always favored altos over sopranos. MC's alto voice is just a sweet divine to my ears. I think she still has her vocal technique that she has always had. So my question to the board is this. Does MC still have her vocal technique? If she were to have a voices battle with Jessie J, would MC win the battle? Beyonce?

Why everybody hates the girl we don't know (106,379)
by Jamie from UK
| |

I haven't really been paying attention to this, as much as she's not the best singer I always thought of her as an all rounder. I used to love her films and always thought she was down to earth. What's going on for all this to be happening? What have I missed?

This is a really interesting video made by a very talented youtuber, it's over two hours long and a comprehensive dive into the downfall of Jennifer Lopez. The reason I share it is because Mariah is mentioned quite a bit, and in this JLo debacle, after her album, movie and the documentary about making of the movie have tanked worse than even Mariah's own vanity project, Glitter, Mariah is portraid as somewhat a hero. Mariah was right about JLo all along.
While Mariah managed to bounce back in 2005 with one of the biggest comebacks in music history, because Mariah actually has talent, I just can't se how JLo will come back from this, it's career ending stuff happening now. Everything has been exposed the last few weeks, that she steals other people's music, dosen't sing her own songs, everything her being from the "block" is fake, she might be the most rude and mean celebrity there is, there's just no authenticity, and everything is out there now. It's really fascinating to experience.

Autocue (106,330)
by Jamie from UK
| |
|
|
I do worry about Mariah's inability to not do anything without autocue. She has increasingly been seen on stage constantly referring to the autocue, something she never did before, and her latest instagram post about the soul beach festival she can be seen doing the same. Is she in a position where she can't ad-lib a short 15 seconds video or even worse remember the words to her own songs. There could be more to it but just wondering what peoples take on it is.

Mary J Blige has 9 Grammys and 2 Oscar nominations. People don't snicker when you say her name. And listen Lee, I think you think I'm arguing for MJB. I'm not. There's not a damn thing Mary can do better than MC. Sing, write, dress, give face. MC wins. What I was saying is that the industry respects her more and that's why she was selected over MC. And again a lot of this is MCs fault. She has Tyra and Heidi Klum on stage doing her makeup. She's more interested in her dullard damsel diva than being an artist. She's laying in bed for a portion of her concert. The optics aren't there for an iconic artist.

A Daydream release in 2024 (106,259)
by Robert-Anthony from United States
| |
|
|
I often wonder how a Daydream album would sell in 2024 if it was released in 2024. Would it sell a million copies plus during in its first week and break Spotify records? Would Fantasy, One Sweet Day and ABMB break streaming and iTunes records? I picked Daydream because that is when MC's career went into overdrive and her popularity increased. Tortured Poets Department seems to be Taylor Swift's Daydream. Her popularity is so high right now. She could release a David Guetta and Zedd TPD remix album in the Fall and it would sell 1.2 million plus copies too.

Mariah and Janet (106,121)
by Jamie from UK
| |

Yes I prefer The One to Boy but both are no where near as radio friendly as Janet's Jam. Charmbracelet is more of a fans album only, I'm grateful for it as I am with all her work. But I feel at that point when her career had taken a bit of a knock she should have been encouraged to do more radio friendly main stream music to reconnect with the public. Oh and don't get me started on Le register de whistle lol.

"The One" would have been a better choice. And it was the original choice. The video for Boy was for "The One" but I think the label made her change it because I remember a video where someone asks her about The One and she says something like you should ask the label I want it to be a single. I also love the remix of The One.

So I've just noticed that when you do a search for Mariah's age it no longer gives the 1970/1969 debate and just shows her true year of birth being 1969. Wonder why they now decided to come clean after all these years.

Controversial (105,791)
by Jamie from UK
| |
|
|
I think it's inevitable that every artist reaches a point where they are no longer mainstream. It's just a natural process, new artists come along and people's focus switches. The thing Mariah has on her side is that she's part of an elite group that are considered the last legacy artists, or real artists. Everything these days is so manufactured and people forget about you easily these days. Fame is short lived and there's no longevity. The likes of Mariah, Celine, Whitney and Janet to name but a few were probably the last divas we will have and it's nice that they are etched in time. They are lucky that they are still relevant in the media as many others have been forgotten about.

Controversial (105,790)
by Tevin from USA

Ok the question that I'm about to ask isn't ment to cause negativity or shade. Since we have been talking about Mariah's career tragetory and eras the last few weeks, I started to ask myself this question, and I'm curious to hear everyone's opinion. If Mariah's voice did not deteriorate (she can still sing by the way), do you think her career tragetory would have been different (from where we are currently at now), or do you think it was inevitable that she would be put in "legacy" status, due to her age, and ageism in the industry?

Yes Mimi. They come on strong and then everybody forgets about them the next week. Do you remember the following?
1. Triumphant 2. 100% 3. I Don't 4. Infinity 5. GTFO 6. Save The Day 7. In The Mix
However, there is one that beats all seven of these that I mentioned and it should have had a proper video with a huge radio impact.

Obsessed was a great first choice just like TMB was a great first choice for E=MC2, but similar to the latter the next single choices and the cheesy music videos ruined it. MOAIA was going to be an ambitious project with 2 remix projects (one with high profile collabs) and it had an Elle magazine tie in. But at the end of the day what sells an album is how it's introduced to the world and the singles play a huge role in it (in my opinion). So releasing HATEU, which is a great song, don't get me wrong, but not single worthy with that hideous video, was a mess. And then IWKWLI. There were other great options which had catchy choruses and more radio friendly that could have been better choices like MTJF, BGK etc. Also the HATEU remix would have done better than the OG. Don't get me wrong, it could be joint decisions between MC and LA and not solely LA's fault, but as the label executive he should have known better. Also the comments he made when she came to epic implying she has no original hits in her and should just sing covers, I felt was a big insult to someone who puts her songwriting over her singing.

New album (105,727)
by Jamie from UK

I think she's just gonna have to go with it, I feel there's never a great time to release albums especially when you're up against all the latest trends. I think she should just release a great album and what will be will be. But we need a great promotion strategy, plenty of appearances, interviews and a lead song that's gonna grab the attention of radio. It's so much harder with the older artists to get the radio airplay that they need, but I'm hoping Mariah has a great album up her sleeve. I loved Caution, But we need some more uptempo tracks with a lighter carefree sound.

Problem with you is you want everyone to agree with what you think, but unfortunately they didn't, you lost this argument. Even the webmaster jumped in to say it.
I've seen that clip before, nobody ever wants to hear criticism but if you can accept it and learn from it then all the better. I'm not hating on her and being negative like some none fans are on twitter. I just think a bit of constructive criticism would be good at times with Mariah as I only want the best for her as do a lot of people on this forum hence why we're so passionate. If you think that your gonna come here and not hear fans give constructive criticism at times with something they choose not to like then your gonna be constantly disappointed. As a fan you're allowed to not like certain songs, it doesn't make you any less of a fan.
