Merry Christmas anniversary want list (107,110)
by Robert-Anthony from United States

I was just thinking again today as I prepare to return to my long work days this week. We all know MC is just not going out on a 20 city tour without some huge Merry Christmas album surprises to support the tour and the Merry Christmas 30th anniversary. As far as I can find with my research, no one else is releasing a new Christmas album this year. So, MC just may do extremely well this Christmas season.

Merry Christmas anniversary want list (107,108)

No thanks. No one is asking for this. There is no more juice in this fruit. The only thing I'd want released is a poster, the St. John the Divine concerts out in streaming (including Hero), and the r&b/video version of Miss You Most (At Christmas Time) added to streaming. I need to know what is planned for Daydream 30 - I have a feeling it's not much

Lol. You are so funny, Randy. She probably wants to make sure Trey, Mary Ann, Sharlotte, Daniel, Kristofer, Danielle, the dancers and her band have an income during the year. They all have been with MC for quite a long time through it all.
By the way, did anyone notice on X on a rolling Christmas show date post two days ago that Olivia Rodrigo is going to be a guest at one the Christmas shows? It was rolling so fast with music attached to it that I couldn't stop it to see which city she will be a guest. I didn't get the poster's X name either.

I don't have any sources or receipts but maybe these residencies are to pay current bills and she only does the shows she needs at the time. She's probably miserable so it's like, "Ok add 5 more dates to get us through until the Christmas shows then after we'll be fine till March." I'm not saying Mariah is broke, because she's not. I think she's doing this for the massive overhead it costs to live her present lifestyle. Mariah please carry your own umbrella and stay at the Red Roof. This is not worth the pain under the Botox. I kid. I kid.

The reality is that the primary revenue stream for recording artists these days is through touring.
I just watched Celine Dion's recent documentary. Celine has been through a lot with her illness and has put tons of effort into getting back to performing. Yes, Celine has been lip syncing for quite some time. But she has lip synced entire shows, and her performances are full of passion and energy. She refused to perform shows when her condition got so bad she couldn't give 100 percent effort.
On the other hand, Mariah's live shows have been low energy since probably 2010. I went to "The Adventures of Mimi" and "Angels Advocate" shows in Atlanta; I definitely recall a steep decline between 2006 and 2010.
Fast forward to 2024, she's barely moving and now lip syncing entire shows except for a couple of minutes. Maybe she hasn't said anything because there's no legitimate explanation?

We were just holding to that one last hope that she would because MC said in April that MC16 was coming soon. However, I knew the receipts weren't adding up this summer. She announced the 2025 Vegas shows two weeks ago and yesterday a 20-city Christmas tour. You may right about 2026. When is she going to have time to finish recording MC16 this year with a Christmas tour and finishing the special gifts for the Merry Christmas anniversary? And I can only assume the Butterfly Lounge tracks have been put away in her vault for now.

After she released the Yes, And remix I told you that she wasn't going to release a new album this year but instead concentrate on festivals, one off concerts and Vegas until it's time for Christmas. Everyone tried to insult me and said I was being negative when I was only telling the truth. I think some of you need to reassess your relationship with the truth and being able to accept it. It's too bad most lambs did nothing to support her two musical remix recordings this year to hold us over because Mariah won't be releasing a full album of new material until 2026. That's just the truth. Take it or leave it.

Merry Christmas only made it to #3 on the Billboard Holiday chart last year. It would be sweet if it makes it to the top spot this year. Michael Bube [sic] is always keeping Merry Christmas from being #1 each year. Maybe a AIWFCIY duet is one of the surprises. I hope it is Kelly Clarkson.

I think at this point in her career, she should celebrate album anniversaries. Release more Rarities-type albums. Dig into that dang vault, lol. Good for her. I'm considering going to see her again when she comes through Atlanta. I wonder what other "surprises" she's got in store to celebrate the 30th anniversary. Mariah loves it when we relate to her songs on a personal level. I don't think we collectively can relate to any song more than we can all probably relate to "If It's Over" right now. From the first word to the very last. The song just hits different now. Give it a go.

I think she'll release a few more "Rarities-type" albums, but I don't expect her to release any new studio albums after MC16. Even though Caution was critically acclaimed, she mentioned that her voice wasn't in good shape during its recording. If it wasn't in good shape then, what about now? I would be fine with MC16 being her final album. She shouldn't count on it being a huge success in terms of sales though, Caution was released six years ago and has sold around 200k copies.

I feel MC16 will be her last album if she ever releases it. Six years without an album is not what we are accustomed to. So, I would be okay if it is her last album. I am not looking forward to everything that leads up to election day in November. The name calling, the political ads during primetime programming, and the uneasy political climate irritates me from September to November. I hope this Fall TV season's new shows like Poppa's House (CBS), Brillant Minds (NBC), Georgie's and Mandy's First Marriage (CBS), Happy Place (NBC), and Elsbeth (CBS) can brighten my mood this fall.

I would just encourage everyone to do their research, cross check their information, and make an educated decision in November as well as get involved in their local politics and elections. Don't take my word for anything or anyone else's, go seek the truth and go from there. At the end of the day we will all vote for whomever and have to live with those decisions. We are now in uncharted territory with MC's career. I am about ready to put my focus and attention on another female artist for awhile as we wait for this long over due MC16 album and Butterfly Lounge project. If it wasn't 6 years since Caution, I would not be so bitter right now because of no album news since April. Here's to Summer Walker and her music right now.
By the way, why doesn't MC have her own cosmetics brand and company? I feel that is a huge misstep in her career.

She looks sensational in those pictures with Olivia Rodriguez. I think still visuals is her new talent. Why worry with record labels, vocal training/rest and creating new music? You can stand still with a backdrop or stand still on stage and look pretty. People pay for that right? That's more important than being one of the greatest singers of all time. That would deflect attention from ability, right? To out-pretty Heidi Klum, Christie Brinkley, Tyra Banks, Cindy Crawford and Imán. Yea let's compete against them because it's easier than trying to sing anywhere near the level of Celine Dion, Toni Braxton, Chante Moore or Deborah Cox.

MC's voice is what grounded her 20 years ago. She just seems lost now without it. It kept her connected to her Lambs. Now she does not post studio pics and tells us she is working on an new album without a finished product. It has been six long years now. I am beginning to think that she is not working one. If this is not the case, then why does it seem like she is not trying her best to get it done at least for her Lambs. I wish she would let us know something other than "It is coming soon." Kehlani communicates better with her fans than MC. Kehlani has only been in the music business 15 years. And she gives us mixtapes in between albums without worrying about sales or it being on the Billboard 200.

I have to wonder what kind of financial status these artists are in because they clearly don't want to tour. Even Michael Jackson said he hated touring. But for Mariah, who looks stunning this go round, it's clear she doesn't want to sing. At least not outside of a studio. Nor does she want to be on stage. The acronym MC has turned into Model Checked-out. All rehearsals are hair, makeup and wardrobe. Now I know everyone says she's worth $250 million+ but that doesn't translate to cash on hand. And she has to pay for upkeep on the NYC apartment, the rental in LA, the stylist, hairdresser, makeup artist (whom I'm sure aren't allowed other clients). Does she own a jet or lease one? She's probably in need of money to keep up this lifestyle and should start stripping it down. She has 500 hours of beauty school. Do your own hair and make up. Stay in hotels when you have work in LA. Fly commercial first class. Hold your own umbrella. Anita was awful on tour and Lauryn is late to every show. I know they probably need money but MC, like what is the reason to keep this up? And don't say to be with your fans. She could do book signings, conference appearances and guest stints on The Talk or start lives on TikTok or Instagram if it was to be with us.

I apologize for being negative this time. I just noticed that MC does not sing like before even during the Memoirs era. When I say she can't sing anymore, I don't mean she can't do some great vocal stacking or background vocals. I am referring to the fact that MC does not sing like we have heard her sing in the past. MC can still sing.

I was thinking again today while I was standing in the grocery checkout line. I just wonder is it common knowledge among MC's colleagues, label executives, and radio programmers that Mariah Carey can't sing anymore. I thought about that because MC doesn't receive any offers for duets, movie songs, or TV performances anymore. Her last collaborations have been rap hooks and a JD favor for another artist. I am really worried about what MC's career will look like in 2030. That would be 40 years in the music business at 61 years old. Maybe an announcement of MC16 will be her last album and it will be a double album. That would be a great prelude something new in the TV entertainment and cosmetics industry.

Right. I noticed that too. How did her career get to this point? I am tempted to write an unauthorized book titled, "The Tragic Loss of Mariah Carey's Voice". I believe the loss of her voice is more than vocal cord nodules or her breathiness singing style. There was something that happened to her voice from 1995-1998 that she never recovered from and over the years it progressively got worse. Fast forward to 2020 and her vocal problems became painfully evident with every live performance that she didn't use a backing track.
I am sure the problem that she is having in the studio recording MC16 is that she can't sing the different parts to her satisfaction to honestly say she is happy with the final track.

I was looking at some videos from the last few nights in Vegas as well. Mariah's lip-syncing is pretty shameless in them. If she's going to do it, she definitely needs to practice making it look more convincing. Her lips are barely moving in some of the songs.
Is there any segment of this show in which she is singing live? What a sad spectacle.

I saw some video clips of the first night. It was obvious that MC was lip syncing to the original tracks. It is very sad that she can't perform live anymore. If she ever releases an album of new material, how would she justify performing new songs to a backing track? And another sad aspect of her vocal issues is that she has not addressed it to her Lambs. If she would at least do that, then we would understand what she is going through. If next year there is no MC16, then she will never release it.

Celine still has a privileged voice, a unique, distinctive timbre, just like Mariah. The huge difference between the two is discipline. While Celine has been committed to caring for and maintaining her instrument and there are many videos and interviews over the last few years in which she claims to continue taking singing lessons and doing vocal exercises (which has not prevented the inevitable deterioration caused by age and her illness), Mariah has been committed for decades to using pre-recorded vocals and her vocal condition has plummeted since 2020 until today, where it is a real shame to see her in Las Vegas, where 95 percent of her show is pure playback. I am struck by the absence of any hint of expressiveness in her face due to the cosmetic infiltrations or retouching she has undergone since 2022. Up until the Caution tour (where she was still able to showcase glorious little vocal moments), Mariah was always known for being tremendously expressive and making faces and hand movements while singing live, especially during the more difficult parts of her songs; which, since the late 90s, made it extremely easy to detect when she was putting a pre-record into a climax because her facial expressiveness would totally change, her eyebrows would relax, her muscle tension would relax and she would look like she was smiling just when it was her turn to do the Olympic acrobatics. We all know that Mariah is not a good actress and has never been able to do a good lip-sync.
Right now it is a paradox that the less effort and effort Mariah puts in, the more believable her playback is in the eyes of non-fans, of the general public, since there is hardly any expressiveness in her face not only during the climax but during an entire song. Zero vocal effort, zero effort in movement and choreography. Just getting paid to look like a Barbie. At least Celine is able to convey a believable story, and mind you, unpopular opinion: although I get goosebumps every time I see her video singing Hymne a L'amour in the Eiffel Tower, as a fan who has been watching her sing for decades just like Mariah, I know perfectly well that her performance was 100% pre-recorded, with facial and body simulation and almost perfect playback. But she managed to put on an unforgettable show and return to the public eye and to music in style. Mariah, meanwhile, continues to make these poor performances in Las Vegas. I wish she would at least release some new studio music, since her forte, unlike Celine's, is songwriting and creating good songs written by herself.

Celine's respect by her fans and the industry is the reason why she was chosen to sing the biggest movie theme song of our time - "My Heart Will Go On". MC could have had it if the producers would thought she would just have sung it in full voice and with no extra Mariah vocal moments. Because of her need to add extras in her songs, MC has missed out on a lot of huge movie theme songs and TV performance moments during her 30-year career.

Having watched her performance again, it is one polished and well executed performance. One thing about Celine is that she has always stayed consistent and true to herself. The Celine of the 1990's is the same Celine now. She is truly respected as an artist and still has her original fan base. I often have trouble relating to Mariah now as it's like she's a completely different person from the 1990's. That's not to say I don't like both but it's why I think she has lost a lot of her fan base and why she's not as respected as much. Celine knows her craft and what her fans want, and isn't at a point in her career where she's having to think of new styles to get peoples attention again as she already has the respect. Obviously Mariah is a different artist with a different personality but I think she could have learnt a lot from how Celine has controlled her career and her reputation.

What will MC bring differently for MC16? (106,985)
by Robert-Anthony from United States

I know we kind of have an idea what MC16 may sound like. However, what will MC bring differently for the sound and cohesiveness of MC16? I am hoping for something like what Amy Winehouse's Back to Black was in 2007. On Back to Black, every song was a glimpse into Amy's personal life since Frank. The retro 60's wall of sound works well for the album and it got the public's and the Grammy's attention of who Amy Winehouse was as an artist. MC is going have to do something like that with MC16. Whatever sound she is creating right now, it will have to be her most cohesive body of work in her career. Mimi has had 6 years to do just that and bring it this time. I hope she can do it and not come off trying to hard to create an album that well perceived by the public.

Celine's performance was beautiful. I am so glad that she made such an extraordinary comeback to the stage. I was brought to tears by her performance. God is good and all the time God is good.

Yes, what a final for the olympic opening. The final was the best. The German commentator shared some tears too because of Céline Dion. You could hear it. He was very moved. I love the great Edith Piaf and Céline singing that song behind the Eiffel tower (after all her struggling) it really was heart touching and awesome. I will watch the games. Thanks, I wish everyone who is watching a great time too.

Original David Morales collaboration (106,953)
by Robert-Anthony from United States

I was thinking today if we will finally get an original David Morales collaboration for MC16. Metorite was a pleasant surpirise on MIAM. And Caution could have been a bonus dance track after Portrait. I am just hoping for more original dance/electronic tracks on MC16. I am keeping my fingers cross.

What do you do for a living? (106,945)

Kids these days only listen to Drake, Lil Baby, Future and 21 Savage. Lol. We can't play their music in the classroom. If you mention Mariah Carey, they only know her for AIWFCIY.

Oh. When I was a teacher, I used to play Mariah's songs for my students as often as I could. Lol.
