Re: Article: Meet Mariah Carey's maybe fake, definitely hot BF (74,182) (74,185) by Musti from UK
I don't disagree with what you're saying. The JP affair was fake one way or another. The fact that she went to that length was a massive surprise for me too. But although the Tanaka affair seemed like textbook reality setup at first, I now feel like there might be more to it. She looks happy with him and ever since MW ended she has been much more quiet about her relationship with him than she ever was with Nick or JP. It feels like this might have been going on for a while and, unless M is very serious about MW season 2, this relationship might be more real than we all thought.

Article: Meet Mariah Carey's maybe fake, definitely hot BF (74,170) by Musti from UK
Yeah, I think the Tanaka issue is getting a bit tired now. For all we know, she's been dating Tanaka for a while and the whole JP thing was a cover to hide her relationship with Tanaka. She likes youger, fit men who will fall at her feet. So what? At least she is no longer the scared Mariah that easily submitted to TM's control.

Re: Patricia Carey's "To Start Again" on YouTube (74,114) (74,123) by Musti from UK
I was going to say the same thing. It's clear where Mariah got her sense of discipline from and it's easy to picture Pat leading the sing-along gatherings at home that Mariah has spoken of in the past. Maybe Mariah is much more "relaxed" now (to say the least) but she had a much more serious approach to her music in the early 90s.

Re: American Idol producers attack Mariah (74,112) (74,116) by Musti from UK
Honestly, I don't believe that Nicki lost it for no reason. We all know M likes to demand things and to be given priority over everyone else. Maybe she never asked for a dozen white kitties, but it was said not long ago in an article that "everyone in the industry has their Mariah story". You don't get that kind of reputation for being an easy person. I'm not saying what Nicki did was right. Clearly she ended up making a fool of herself. But Mariah does ask for it sometimes.

Wow, thanks for posting that. This is actually a pretty good album. Her voice really shines on the 3rd and 4th track. I really like her Habanera as well. It's impressive how she sings an opera standard then goes into an acoustic/pop sound on the next song. And she follows it up with a haunting Both Sides Now. Her voice doesn't have as many layers as Mariah's of course, but she sounds like a true artist.

Merriest Christmas on Hallmark (74,036) by Musti from UK
Just watching this special from a couple of years ago. I'd almost forgotten how amazing she was here. From her voice to her ensembles, absolutely everything was on point. Silent Night from that night is one of her best performances of the song ever (in my opinion). I love her voice and all the faces she goes through on Joy to the World. This might also be the only time she actually sang Here Comes Santa Claus live (well, most of it anyway). Then there was the beautiful moment with Babyface. But my favourite is God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen, in a rendition that easily rivals the album version. It's everything Mariah stands for: high chest, silky falsetto, melisma runs, sustained vibrato, (near) whistle and, most of all, absolute conviction to her art. You can watch the whole thing here. On a side note, at around 11:50 where the phone declares her love for Mariah, she says "Butterfly is my all-time fave. No, I mean Emotions." I wonder if Emotions is also Mariah's fave after Butterfly.

Happy anniversary (73,988) by Musti from UK
Despite all the mess you put yourself into in the last few years, I don't doubt for a second that deep down you are still the same person that we all love and adore. I hope you are well on your way to leaving your troubles behind. I am still very proud that I share my birthday with one of the most iconic people in world history. Happy anniversary dahlin.

Haha it's been a few days and no one had said anything. I was beginning to get worried. But you're right, this is just another normal night out/in for M.

Re: Mariah doesn't sing unless cued (73,876) (73,878) by Musti from UK
I couldn't agree more. M always pays her respects to those that have come before her, either by praising them or by giving reserved performances to let the legends shine. Endless Love at the Royal Albert Hall is probably one performance where M equalled/surpassed the legend on stage. But I don't think Luther cared. If anything, he could hardly contain his excitement when he was announcing M's name to join him on stage. That performance was all about M in my opinion.

Article: Celebrities you didn't know were Irish (73,746) by Musti from UK
I don't really enjoy seeing Mariah "shading" others, other than the classic moments of course. And the Demi Lovato question is probably my favourite Mariah shade ever. It's not even shade, only a mature and honest answer. On a side note, I'm also glad that she has formed a good relationship with Andy.

Re: Singles mean? (73,743) (73,745) by Musti from UK
That's a good point. Very unlikely we'll hear anything like that for a while. But who knows? WBT was a massive surprise for all of us, especially because summer was just around the corner and what she had in her hands was a monster ballad. It's not like I Don't sold particularly well. All I've learned in 20 years of being a lamb is that Mariah will always do Mariah. I just hope she gives us the great Mariah once again.

Mine is I Don't at the moment, which isn't a surprise since I listened to it 50+ times on the day it was released alone.

Re: Celine Dion vs Mariah Carey (73,687) (73,691) by Musti from UK
I don't find either Barbra or Celine more talented than Mariah. I love both ladies but Mariah will forever be the (underappreciated) best. The thing with Barbra and Celine though is that they never made a noticeable change in their sound like Mariah did. Mariah progressively lost a chunk of her core album-buying audience after she went into R&B and hip hop. I'm not saying she did wrong. I personally prefer her post-97 catalogue to her earlier stuff when her voice was in its prime. But the audience is too untrained to care for that detail or the fact that her previous work was filled with R&B undertones. After the success of Funny Girl, Barbra started making more movies and OSTs in the 1970s and also went into pop briefly. This is the time she scored her 5 #1's. After that she went back to her core audience and started doing the classics again. At no point (as far as I know) was her image called into question. Same with Celine. With Mariah, it's not just the shift in her sound but also her image. I think the audience has more or less accepted Mariah as an R&B artist, most certainly since TEOM (although I still hear "I prefer the old Mariah" every now and then). But her image is destroying her, and I don't think it's the sexiness. It's the way she is going about expressing that sexiness. The uber-diva act too, of course. These are what Mariah needs to work on. Clearly recycling the same sound over and over again doesn't mean you will not be respected, although I would definitely like it if she were to try different sounds/concepts next time.

Re: Celine Dion vs Mariah Carey (73,650) (73,656) by Musti from UK
Mariah's problem is the endless calculations that go in her head with her every single effing move as to whether she looks good. Every angle, every step, every freaking move she makes, she wants to look beautiful. I think she looks her best when she's on stage in her element singing her heart out. But clearly she doesn't like the way she looks even when she sings.

Re: Article: Mariah Carey wrecks Dubai bellydancer's show (73,496) (73,500) by Musti from UK
I completely agree. I'll play fair and say we don't know if and how much of this story has been fabricated. It sounds very bizarre that anyone would approach a belly-dancer regarding concerns over their outfit. In any event, thanks to Mariah's obsession with lingerie, dem kids have likely already seen it all.

I'm loving this photo. I don't know why the article thinks it's embarrassing. She obviously doesn't look her best but pretty good for someone who's just woken up and managed to put their eyeliner on.

Re: "No one wants albums anymore." Wrong, girl (73,359) (73,367) by Musti from UK
That could be true, and she wouldn't be mistaken. Beyonce or Adele aren't the standard to go by when thinking about album sales in this day and age. Testing the waters with singles and trying new things without committing to a full-length album might actually be exactly what she needs right now. If they get at least one of those singles right, it should eventually lead to an album.

Re: Article: Mariah dishes on new music, tour - and that performance (73,335) (73,336) by Musti from UK
I agree. I quite like this article. Her answers were on point. Lately we are hearing more and more of "I don't know why people treat me differently". She clearly doesn't see her image as the problem. I hope that changes in the future. I will give credit to Stella for being there for her as a friend at a time when she had just divorced Nick and was probably feeling lost. But her career advices are appalling. If only Mariah were to get away for a week, I'm sure she'd be able to think more clearly.

"When I was 12 years old in the studio as a backup singer for someone else, a friend of my mother's son." I guess she is truly done with Morgan.

Re: Mariah Carey may be dropped by Epic Records (73,231) (73,257) by Musti from UK
I agree, I would't be surprised either. Dropping a legend simply because they no longer sell millions says more about the label than the artist, but the end result is that Mariah will be without a label. At this point in her career I don't see her getting a deal from any of the majors. What worries me is that she might be forced to set up her own independent label. Seeing how Stella doesn't seem to be going anywhere, she will continue to distance Mariah from her important personal and business relationships and destroy whatever else is left. I get that Mariah feels like Stella understands her and that they have "connected" as friends (even though I don't think Stella is anywhere near her level). However there needs to be a line somewhere between friendship and business. Mariah should also try to get back into that professional space and take her career seriously. We all lose people from time to time, whether by breakups or death. But we recover. It is simply not ok in the music industry to delay an album for an entire year after releasing the lead single and then completely abandon the project because you're divorcing your husband. Let's not forget the series of incredibly messy TV appearances during that period. Whatever cloud she has been on for the past 3 years, she needs to come down fast.

Re: Cut Mimi some slack (73,025) (73,026) by Musti from UK
Whether we like it or not, she (or her team) is the architect of her own downfall. After all those years and accomplishments in the industry, you'd have to be pretty delusional not to know how this behaviour is destroying your career. It just makes zero sense. She would've never been targeted at the NYE gig had she not already had a reputation for lipping. Or if the public didn't love to hate her. She makes it too easy. On the other hand, I was talking to someone yesterday who didn't know I'm a lamb and he said he believed they sabotaged her that night. At least part of the public is willing to sympathise with her. She should find a way to be loveable again. Start by firing that incredibly unloveable woman and her daughter who likes to barge in on and take pics of you while taking showers.

She looks younger than Tanaka. I won't deny it, they actually look cute together in those pics. And most importantly, her smile seems genuine.

Re: Would you rather? (72,313) (72,314) by Musti from UK
Good question. I think I would prefer another #1 single. She is already announced as the highest selling female singer of all time (correctly or not) wherever she goes. The fact that she has the highest number of #1 singles is her strongest marketing point and she uses it more frequently than her other achievements/stats. If she were to lose that point, it would damage her already damaged marketing options. Plus, nothing gives me a bigger rush than Mariah having another #1 single.

Re: Article: Mariah Carey teases role in "Lego Batman Movie" (72,072) (72,100) by Musti from UK
I know it's creeping me out. With nearly 30 years of music videos and live shows, you'd think she would at least be able to move around in a car without making those awkward gestures and facial expressions. Anyway, let's just say there's lots of room for improvement. It also looks like a cheap production overall. I hope it's not a budget allocation issue. I'd hate to think she's that low on Epic's priority list.
