Thanks, I'm so pleased I saw her during her prime, though she was so good back then it was sort of taken for granted. Had I known she'd lip 90% of her material from the next tour onwards, I guess I would have appreciated it all the more. The concert is in my top ten best days of my life. When she started singing Emotions, I just burst into tears because I couldn't believe she was there in front of me. Not only that, but seeing the larger than life backing singers and the band who were on her concert videos... it was so surreal to me. She also sang most songs in a higher key than the studio version which was amazing. Hero went down massively with the crowd. She was professional, funny, poised, graceful and gone with the wind. What a night.

I saw her at the London concert. I also saw her London Daydream concert so, for me, Rainbow wasn't as great as Daydream was. The skits were good fun though. I remember a boxing match between her and Bianca, and a beauty pageant etc. It was a fun night but didn't compare to how awestruck I was at Daydream.

It's because we know what she can sound and look and behave like. She isn't that person we all fell in love with anymore.

According you Damizza, "Don't Forget About Us" is about their relationship. He titled his book chapter on MC that. I think "Thirsty" is also about him, though the die hards are convinced it's about Nick, which it so isn't.

Yes same. In my youth I collected every foreign release I could to make sure I had every remix just in case she ad-libbed a line differently. I downloaded all her concerts from torrent sites to make sure I had every different line. That dried up in later years but the thought of there being unreleased material out there is unbearable.

I agree, especially as Mariah has said it was her favourite album and is always at the top of fan lists and highlighted by critics as her career making moment too. A picture disc on vinyl is great, but I would have loved, as you say, all the remixes collected (and some new/previously unreleased ones, especially the Butterfly remixes), a retrospective from MC about each track and the composition etc., footage from the Butterfly tour (again, unreleased would be great), and any tracks that didn't make it out of the recording sessions alive. It's a great body of work and I wish she would have given it the attention and love it deserves. Maybe for the 25th.

There was something on Internet forums in the 90s about a track called "Let Me Know" that was meant for Butterfly but never made it. In the fullness of time, the message seemed genuine as they also mentioned "Lead the Way" which then appeared on Glitter. I'd love to hear it. I'm sorry but I want to hear every track Mariah has ever recorded, ever.

Always Be My Baby (Reggae Soul Mix) (78,585)
by Bill from the UK

I always loved the instrumentation to this remix and thought ABMB really suited a reggae beat. One thing I didn't love about it though, was Lil Vicious. To me, the remix is ruined by him blurting out nonsensical incoherent phrases after every line Mariah sings. I know of three versions of the remix: Reggae Soul Mix, Reggae Soul Dub and Reggae Soul Acapella. Is there one without Lil Vicious that anyone is aware of? He really does vandalise what would have been a really cool version.

Betcha is one of Mariah's best songs in my opinion. I was listening to Memoirs the other day, which I rarely do (I tend to stay within the 90s), but realised I actually like every song on the album. Betcha's lyrics are brilliant, it's a real "visual" song where you can play the scenes unfolding in your mind as she sings the lines. But, "you're acting so corny like fritos" also is worthy of merit.

And following on from Migrate, we also need to bring to everyone's attention how E=MC2 had the total wrong choices as singles. That album's propulsion ended as soon as Bye Bye hit the shelves.

Hahah, I love that Did I Do That stopped you listening to the album so much. Did I Do That, like Boy, is a pimple on the beautiful face of Mariah's song book catalogue. I remember listening to that song the first time and my heart just sinking. I had barely got over the album cover and then when that song hit I was like, wow, this is even lower lol. But I persevered and Petals and Rainbow did kind of help bring the album back a bit, but yeh it's one of the reasons I don't spin Rainbow that much these days.

Breakdown is brilliant, I agree about it being a blueprint for a perfect collab. Like Mariah, I wish it could have been a single in the US and Europe so it had its day in the sun, but hey ho. Another MC endorsement was for that war game thing she did.

You beat me to it (exclamation mark). There are also very pleasant stripped versions of AYNAF and I Still Believe. The acapella of AYNAF is on that great Mariah's Vocals channel for any of y'all interested. It goes all the way out to the extended ending. I would love to hear the acapellas for Vision of Love, Can't Let Go and Without You.

Re: Hero music video (78,474) (78,491)
by Bill from the UK

Mariah did indeed move during the Hero video, and what a great timeless video it was. She was swaying in time with the rhythm of the song, she made big swooping hand gestures to drive home the emotion and the lyrics, she threw her head back at the crescendo, it was probably as choreographed as any ballet, but it came off as natural and confident and elegant. She was able to walk up to the microphone unaided and gave her beautiful, graceful performance. All her ballad performances from the 90s followed the format and were a joy to watch. They emphasised her incredible vocal talents and didn't detract from the song but also gave some flair and flourishes where necessary. You cannot compare that horrific Honey performance to the Hero video, end of.
