About Bill from the UK: I love Mariah more than you do.

London Daydream Tour Attendee.

Re: Daydream era (74,200) (74,203) by Bill from the UK
Also ABMB ended up becoming one of her most popular songs in the US, still receiving regular airplay to this day. Daydream is always heavily represented on her compilation albums too so if anything it's the opposite and is arguably the peak of her career both in terms of success, vocals, and creativity.

Re: The uselessness of trying to change someone (74,001) (74,019) by Bill from the UK
What a great post Marissa, thank you. I have been listening to the debut album non-stop lately, and it's because I want to "recapture all of the memories". That album for me is a window into the little girl who listened to the radio under the covers, sang with her mother, skipped school to write and record songs in a funky woodshop, and who had no proper shoes upon her feet. The little girl that believed in herself enough and knew what she wanted. She was beautiful, she sang beautifully, she wrote beautiful songs. When I listen to Vanishing now, I can't help but see it as me singing it to her. The lyrics are so poignant now. You're vanishing, drifting so far away, you're vanishing, you're vanishing away.

So Luther died because Mariah outsang him during their duet? What a way to go.

Re: Wasted songs, should have been singles (73,729) (73,733) by Bill from the UK
And You Don't Remember was meant to be the fourth single from Emotions but was canned when I'll Be There took off. I wish it had been as it's a beautiful song. The Roof and Breakdown should have got full worldwide single treatment and not limited releases. I loved Make It Look Good from the get go and think it should have been put out instead of You're Mine (Eternal). If We and The One were also amazing. Wish more people could have heard them.

AIWFCIY followed closely by the beautiful Vision of Love. Never gets old.

Re: The stolen idea (73,170) (73,174) by Bill from the UK
Also apparently the demo tape recordings Mariah was going to release was called "1989", like Taylor's album. If it's true, it is such a shame. I'd give my all to hear that tape.

Re: Nose (73,062) (73,064) by Bill from the UK
It's pretty clear she has from pictures. Barbra Streisand once said she would never get a nose job, despite being a prime candidate for one lol, because it would have a detrimental effect on her singing voice.

I Don't and the Grammy comment (72,890) by Bill from the UK
Two things. When I heard "I Don't" I thought to myself, at least she can replicate the damn thing live. Seeing her lip parts of it on Kimmel solidified my suspicion that her five octave range is now reduced to one. Then out she came with the Grammy comment. Make of the ceremony what you will, but it's the equivalent of the Oscars for its industry. Mariah is now very unlikely to add to her tally or even be nominated ever again by that stupid remark. What was she thinking? And one additional point, being nominated six times is not the definition of a snub.

Re: Grammys (72,711) (72,716) by Bill from the UK
TJ is completely right. Daydream was a tremendous effort by Mariah but Jagged Little Pill was a huge, brilliant, ground breaking, intelligent record. Alanis' dead pan delivery, her direct and cutting lyrics, the production, her style, it all was a perfect fit for the general mood at the time. I played that album relentlessly when it arrived, and to this day it remains one of my favourites and most returned to records (Mariah excepted of course). Mariah wasn't "snubbed". A snub would be zero nominations. The amount of nominations she received that year was a direct acknowledgement and confirmation of her fantastic achievements and a reflection of how she was perceived in the industry at the time.

That was beautiful. Same channel also has the Make It Happen acapella too. Amazing.

Re: New radio call in (72,545) (72,547) by Bill from the UK
I agree she shouldn't be on the receiving end of such comments, but then she's bought it entirely on herself and should not be surprised or offended when people say things like that to her. If he had said the same comment to Celine Dion, everybody would be appalled. Mariah? Not so much. You reap what you sow.

Re: Just a thought (72,532) (72,544) by Bill from the UK
That's no different to Mariah not giving any credit for using Best Of My Love (Emotions) and I Want To Thank You (Make It Happen) samples without permission. She's not exactly in a position to cast the first stone.

Re: New radio call in (72,530) (72,543) by Bill from the UK
Andrew does have a point. How Mariah has the audacity to be offended when somebody calls out the very thing she's been shoving in our faces since she first strutted down the theatre aisle in that pink crop top in the Heartbreaker video is beyond me. She paid money to have them enhanced, and even had them out on display when performing at a funeral, for heaven's sake. If she wants people to focus on the music and her songwriting, then make her music and songwriting the focus.

Re: "The Roof" video (72,536) (72,542) by Bill from the UK
The Roof is one of her greatest videos. All the videos from the Butterfly album were excellent, but there was something extra special about the atmosphere this one in particular created. The shots in the limo, the flashbacks, out in the rain... beautiful.

Re: Mariah Carey is a hard person to love these days (72,499) (72,502) by Bill from the UK
(Scan reads for the words "Right to Dream".) I'm kidding, but I agree. A stripped down album, just her and a piano/guitar. All acoustic, maybe even have each song recorded in one take with no showy vocal acrobatics she can't replicate live. That I feel is all it would take to get her some respect amongst critics, peers, and dare I say, her fans.

Re: Tommy Mottola (71,815) (71,829) by Bill from the UK
The problem with Mariah is deeply psychological. It all stems back to her childhood. She was abadoned by her father. She married Tommy (I gravitated toward a patriarch so young, predictably), whatever happened between them happened, and with their being two sides to every story, she perceived his actions as abuse and spent years living with the "side effects". She got cheated on by Luis Miguel. Screwed around by Damizza. Then along came Nick. He got her, she got him, they married and after the pain of a miscarriage, were blessed with beautiful twins. Watching her interviews during that period, she was grounded, funny, engaging, sensible, and clearly grateful for what she had. Then whatever happened behind their closed doors happened, and imagine the effect of your own traumatising childhood being re-enacted. A literal history repeating of three year old children being brought up in an unpredictable environment by their singer mother. On WWHL, her obvious uncomfortableness when asked about Nick was heart breaking to see. Packer was a rebound. What better security blanket for her kids than a billionaire? Then with Stella manipulating her in the background and keeping that wine glass topped up, she's now a shadow of herself, mired in misery, clinging to her youth (Tanaka). Her voice is gone, her endearing personality is gone. Mariah was a girl blessed with a five octave voice, stunning ethereal looks, a warm personality, a humbleness, and carried herself with poise and grace. Now she has none of those things. That is the true tragedy of this. Her search for acceptance in any form (race, father, lover) has left to her being the loneliest woman I know. I wonder if she still feels like a child when she looks at the moon. This is why, in spite of everything she does and my continued frustrations with her, I will always, deeply and sincerely, love her to pieces.

Triumphanousinitippet (71,715) by Bill from the UK
Well that snippet was more of the usual bland and boring trite she's been pedalling for years now. But what was I expecting this break up anthem to be? Another I Don't Wanna Cry? Another Forever? Another Butterfly? Hell, even another The Art of Letting Go? Of course it was going to be the same tired Mariah/JD/rapper du jour formula. Jesus wept.

Re: Vision Of Love or We Belong Together (71,528) (71,538) by Bill from the UK
As much as I love We Belong Together it can't compete to Vision of Love. That song is perfection from start to finish. 3 and a half minutes, 5 octaves, and a 10 second note later it was like, I've arrived. What an entrance.

Re: Charmbracelet on replay - The one? (71,483) (71,490) by Bill from the UK
The One has long been my favourite from CB, from first listen in fact. I was mortified when Boy replaced it as the second single lol. I too have played CB after reading everybody's comments. It does have some great moments. TTR remix is a great closer to the album, ending on a truly uplifting note. Surprised to see Lullaby standing out as some fan's favourite track. By the 17th chorus I'm like, end already lol.

Re: Mimi L (71,436) (71,440) by Bill from the UK
The Rainbow tour was great. Throughout the show she had all these little skits going on, which were so funny. The best one was a beauty pageant where the contestants were called things like Miss Understood and Miss Informed etc., and Bianca also made an appearance too.

Completely agree Marissa. I never thought the day would come when I would say these words, but I can actually sing better than Mariah Carey. Wow.
